A friend and I stayed here for 2 or 3 nights while visiting another friend of ours in a nearby hospital. The layout of our room was a little strange and the bathroom was very dated, but overall everything was fine for our needs. WiFi was strong, which was important for us because we both needed to work while there. The only restaurant in the building was closed for renovations or something, so there was no room service. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, although most did not seem to keep standard hours of operation - some only open for lunch, some only open for dinner, some only open weekdays, etc., and they don't necessarily adhere to whatever Google says, so you kind of just have to take your chances. Staff were really friendly and helpful with storing some stuff we needed to keep frozen, and also when we needed to extend our stay 1 night. This isn't somewhere I'd make a point to return to for a vacation, but as a crash pad while spending the majority of our time visiting a friend in the hospital, it was totally fine, centrally located, and budget-friendly.

    just dirty

Thank god we checked in at 9pm and checked out at 9am to jump on a cruise. I wouldn't stay here again. It's really outdated and weathered. There's an AC hotel across the street that is well worth the additional money. The sheets were clean but the floors and hallways were filthy. There's marks all over the walls and it's honestly just really gross. Even for a night, I wouldn't recommend. The front desk staff were very nice and precessional.

    Ugly decor and paint

Stayed for 5 days while visiting family on the Island. The furniture and room was very worn out and scuffed up. Room wasn't very clean, crumbs and sticky on countertops. Couch was gross. Got a bug bite sitting on it. Had a cockroach in the bathroom, even though we were on the 21st floor. I'm a hotel snob and chose this hotel due to convenience to location and previous Expedia reviews. It did not live up to my expectations or standards. Badly in need of a paint job and new furniture. Room view and size was the best part.

I wish I had researched this place better. I went off the photos they have on their website as to what the rooms were like. This is not a hotel - it's best described as an Air b& b. It turned out to be an outdated condo not a hotel room. They still have the Covid restrictions in play. So they tell you at the desk they clean the room every three days. Which means you have to go to the front desk for towels. The tv in the bedroom had very limited Channels. Lots of homeless around the area. So best to pay the 30 dollars a day to park in the deck. The staff was great - if I had to do all over again I would have spent more money for a better room. I've included photos - compare them to their website.

Needs some updating but served it's purpose. We chose this location as it was walking distance to the cruise port. The you arrive at the location, you'll see an escalator going down. This takes you to the lobby and guest check in. There was a funky smell every time we took the escalator down so good thing we were only staying there for one night. Now, this hotel isn't only used for a hotel. Upon talking to people on the elevator, it's also used as residence and rentals. Good to know. When you walk into the room, the kitchen is directly to the left furnished with appliances and table. The separate bedroom includes all of the usual amenities. The beds aren't very comfortable and the bathroom could really use a remodel. I will say it was clean and fine for a night. Like I said, it was close to the cruise port and served it's purpose. Will I stay again? Probably not.

Located in the heart of downtown/financial district and a block from China town. This place is a decent place if you happen to be on a business trip but other than that, not a "vacation" hotel. It is a mix of hotel rooms and condominiums so the crowd is very different than you would expect. The rooms are clean and large with nice views of Mauka and Makai. It is also very reasonably priced room. The pool is located in the middle of the building and large enough for lap swim.

I stayed here for 8 days in November because of the location. It's near HPU Aloha Tower Dorms where my niece lives. I love the downtown location because it's walking distance to other historical sites - palace, Chinatown, and other buildings I cannot remember the names. I did walk to Waikiki area which is about 2-3 Miles. I'm a walker/hiker so it wasn't a problem for me. I had the Mountain View room which was great. The room had a little kitchen with basic cooking and dining supplies. It was very clean and comfortable. There were no bugs at all. I was able to save money by eating in some days. The bed was great - big and so comfortable! TV was great too. The front desk were always helpful if I had any questions or problems. I rented a car so I need a parking space. The price was comparable to other locations. I did asked to change space because it was too small for my car - next to a pillar. The front desk had no problems doing so and even moved the car for me. Housekeeping were also amazing. My room was always clean every day. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Great location and excellent service. It was great place to use as my home base while I visited my niece and explored the island. I would definitely stay here again.

The reviews are all over the place on this one. I think if you think you are near the tourist areas, then you'd be dead wrong...this is in China town area and business area. Suffice it to say, you'll need a car to go places. China town in Honolulu is not a great place at night. There are smaller shops in the day time, and really no place to wander and eat at night. The parking in this place needs help. I was in the 14th floor, with condominium dwellers, and you take one set of elevator to get into your room. If you want to go to your car, you need to go back down to the lobby, and take another set of lifts to the garage. BTW, the stalls reserved for hotel patrons are the ones unmarked with"24 hour reserved", and they start on the 6th floor and up. OK, besides all this set back, I actually like this place. I think if you were to conduct business here in HNL, it's very convenient. The suite has a kitchen (ok load up with your spam musubis and rice and Portuguese sausages, coconut juices in your fridge), a TV room, a bedroom and a nice modern bathroom. Very new. I'd stay here again.

The view from our room...sadly I don't remember the room number. #hawaii2013

We stayed here January '13 last year for our first time in Hawaii. It is such a nice and clean hotel in the heart of downtown Honolulu. Even though they have appartments for rent to long term guests the place was always well kept and the room service was on point. We didn't get to spend much time at our hotel room as we were always out and about in tours for the island, but our room was always neat and clean when we got there to sleep and shower. The view from our room was amazing! We got to experience one of the most beautiful sunsets ever! It was so romantic! I am sad we didn't get to stay here this second time in Honolulu, but we thought being much more close to the beach would be better for us... boy we were wrong! Anyway, if you ever in Honolulu don't hesitate to stay here. You won't regret it.

It was held in the Waialae Ballroom on a Saturday afternoon with lunch being served for all the guests. What a beautiful location where you can see the lush garden just outside, the pacific ocean was a few yards away when you're done eating, you're free to roam the area and see the beautiful architecture and structure of this fabulous hotel. I was not able to play tourist as this party had to end by 2pm and I had commitments thereafter. But for future hotel guests information, they also have dolphins for you to see. The food here was incredible and of good quality. Good for any type of gatherings of any size breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bartenders and service at the bar was even better! The amount of attention every table was receiving was amazing, glasses were never empty and always started with a full pour. Self parking was completely full, although valet parking service was a better idea. Keep in mind this is a full service 5 star property located in Kahala/Waialae. Would love to be a hotel guest one of these days just to say I've stayed at The Kahala Resort.

The Kahala bills itself as a 5 star luxury stay. while there are definitely some 5 star attributes to this resort, it falls short of a full 5 star rating. we booked using the Chase Reserve promo which included some great benefits such as hotel credits, room upgrade on availability and early check-in/out opportunities. we arrived a little early, 1pm, but a room wasn't available. they were able to get us an upgrade, however. for a 3pm standard check-in we were only able to get a room at 220p. we booked a room for 4 people, but, they got us a King bed. we were offered 2 rollaways, or move to a double room the next day. we chose the prior. luckily, the room itself was pretty large and well appointed. the bathroom was also big, with dual sinks on opposite ends, a separate shower and tub and a MAGIC toilet! yes, a toilet with a warming seat, senses your rear approaching and lights up and rinses the inside of the bowl, all prior to being used! oh, and it's also got a bidet built in. i think that was the highlight of our room. the tv was conveniently on a retractable mount so could be adjusted as necessary. there was a good sized fridge as well as a Nespresso machine and complimentary water. The resort grounds were immaculate and aesthetically pleasing. the lobby/patio area gave off plantation vibes, similar to the Moana Surfrider. there are in-house dolphins that swim around the pond that guests can interact directly with in the water. there are multiple restaurants on property that range from casual, to buffet to fine dining. THE best part of the Kahala is it's pristine beach front location. just steps from the resort pool, Kahala beach was our favorite of this entire trip. as i mentioned, this was a nice break from Waikiki and this beach is the epitome of non-Waikiki. although it is a public beach, it was relatively peaceful and quiet. the surrounding neighborhood provides an element that is conducive to relaxation and calm. mama and i were able to sit on our complimentary beach loungers and just chill while the kiddos frolicked in and out of both the surf and the pool. the dudes attending to the beach/pool guests were awesome and always ready to help. while The Kahala provided us a great stay, there were a couple points of contention that kept it short of a 5 star resort. the wrought iron balcony railing's white paint didn't quite cover up the rusting going on underneath it. and the balcony dividers that provided perfect privacy from our neighbors, also had rust smattering it. i realize we're in a tropical climate and this is common, but, perhaps a 5 star resort would pay more attention to those details. another issue was trying to communicate with the front desk. we had a 50% success rate with trying to get ahold of someone on the phone. it should not be that difficult. the pool had the ubiquitous sludge that develops when sunblock and water and mass of humanity meet, but, the filtration system should be managing that a lot better. overall, we had a wonderful time at The Kahala. it's definitely worthy of a return visit, regardless of the 5 star shortcomings. we highly recommend this place.

The Banyan Wing is the original Victorian-era building which is listed on National Historic Registry and houses the main lobby and restaurant. Our Tower room had a great covered patio with incredible views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. We spent a lot of time on the patio watching the surfers, catamarans, and enjoying the island breeze. Our balcony was spectacular :o Our room was updated and very comfortable. I understand the owners completed a full renovation of all rooms in 2026. The beach bar is one of the best in the world. Cold cocktails, beer and wine. Good service. Great views! The drawbacks.... The pool is small and very crowded, especially for 791 rooms. With that said everyone in the pool was smiling and having fun. The beach is also pretty small for such a massive hotel. At high tide the hotel only has about 30 feet of beachfront and it is a public beach so it is crowded Rio style. For us this was not a drawback as we love Waikiki, the birthplace of Hawaiian surfing, and spend most of our time in the surf. So much history as shown throughout the resort especially on the second floor, but also the open Victorian architecture which presents a relaxing atmosphere. Our friends thought we were "rich" for being able to stay here but I don't recall the prices being too different than other hotels in the area. We also got a great offering through the American Express card. We arrived on island early afternoon and attempted to stay up as late as possible. However, we were given a room on the second floor of the historic side of the hotel where they host events on the patio area outside our room. While we were trying to sleep at 8-9pm, a festive wedding was going on with their DJ blasting music, people dancing, yelling, the DJ trying to motivate the audience, etc. It was not a fun night as my wife complained to the hotel staff about the noise interfering with our ability to sleep. It's not the fact the wedding was occuring, but rather the fact the hotel staff didn't let us know they were putting us next to the hotel night club of sorts. Hawaii is typically laid back and quiet, which this was not. The hotel staff sympathisized and mentioned the wedding would be finished by 10pm which it was, and tried to make things better. On day 3 around 4am, the hotel fire alarm sounded and advised everyone to vacate the building. When we vacated, we learned it was a false alarm. This was our last day at the Moana Surfrider which we assumed was a sign the resort wasn't meant to be a relaxing experience for us. The hotel has activities associated with the resort fee such as yoga, that we registered for. It was my first time doing yoga despite mention by my wife over the years to do it. I figured it would be a pleasant surprise for her if I signed us up, and it was a great class out on the same patio area as the wedding. I won't say it was fun for me, but it was an experience that we both enjoyed. The room itself was small which I assume is because it was part of the historic side of the hotel. There wasn't a balcony which we've come to appreciate especially in Hawaii to be able to go outside, view the water, and smell the air. Instead there was a window which we tried to orient ourselves in to get a picture of us with our welcome leis and Waikiki Beach in the background. Very challenging to appreciate a window as well as find space in the room to lay out two large suitcases without having to relocate furniture. The shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor as the cracks in the glass were not sealed so there was a constant wet towel on the floor. The bathroom in general didn't seem very modern considering the hotel had recently undergone years of modernization. Housekeeping was good and treated us well with towels and drinking water. I believe the Tower rooms of the hotel might be more modern and larger, as well as away from the event area of the hotel. I think we would look at other options in the future as we also spent a few days each during this trip at the Sheraton and The Royal Hawaiian which provided a much different experience in comparison.

They also have a pool side bar/cafe that serves drinks, snacks, and meals and is a secondary pool-side restaurant. They play music down there every night. It's very calm, quaint, and peaceful to enjoy a night in the hotel. Unfortunately, the prices of their drinks are ridiculously overpriced. $17 for a Mai Thai not including tip. Insane. The room? I would say pretty average for any decent hotel. It was clean, the bed was good, the pillows were nice and big. The balcony is small, but can sit two people to enjoy the outside. The down side is the rooms of the two towers of the hotel face each other. So you don't get a beach front view unless you pay the big extra for those rooms. My biggest gripe about the room was the shower. The whole 7 days the water would change from warm, hot, very hot, rinse and repeat every few seconds. The price? Very expensive, but that's the price you pay for a beach front hotel PLUS it being on Waikiki beach. There's probably not big deals/sales unless you buy it through Costco Travel which is what I did which saves you probably a couple hundred at the very least. Valet is automatically included which is another 60 per night (not including whatever few bucks you tip them whenever you go out) so this would easily rack up your bill. I'd say the closest free parking is at least a 20 minute walk one way. Despite my rating the hotel a 4/5, would I recommend this spot? It depends. If you are a newcomer to Oahu and want to experience the casual, tourist experience of Oahu, want that beach front hotel, and have the cash, I would recommend this. If you are not a newcomer, there are many other hotels that will suit many other tastes. And honestly, staying at any other hotel outside of Waikiki is probably best if you want to really save on money and see better beaches.

My biggest issue with the hotel is that it's showing its age. The rooms and facilities feel outdated, and I don't think the current room rates reflect the condition of the property. Also, if you're looking to save on parking, park by the pier instead. It's much more affordable than paying the hotel's $65 per day parking fee.

I worked incredibly hard to bring my family to Hawaii, and I am extremely disappointed that so much of our time at Hilton Hawaiian Village was spent dealing with problems that should never have become our responsibility. Over three nights, we experienced two separate water leaks and repeated hot-water issues. These weren't minor inconveniences--they significantly disrupted our family vacation. The worst night, I slept approximately two hours. With water leaking into our room, I chose to stay awake and deal with the situation myself because I didn't want maintenance repeatedly coming into the room and waking my 1-year-old and 3-year-old children. Instead of resting and enjoying the next day with my family, I was exhausted because I had essentially spent the night protecting my children's sleep while dealing with the hotel's maintenance problem. That is unacceptable at a resort of this caliber. Management eventually provided compensation, and I appreciate that they acknowledged the situation. However, I absolutely do not believe the compensation matched the severity of what we experienced. I didn't work all year and spend thousands of dollars bringing my family to Hawaii to spend a significant portion of our vacation calling guest services, dealing with leaks, worrying about hot water, and effectively helping manage Hilton's property. Money can be refunded. Vacation time with my children cannot. For the price and reputation of this resort, our experience fell dramatically below what any family should reasonably expect.

One of the important standards I look for in a hotel stay, is a focus on supporting locals. For me, if there's a Starbucks in the lobby, then I'm already disappointed. This hotel has one of my favorite local chain cafes, Honolulu Coffee Company. The only local café that has consistently made perfect crema foe decades. Starbucks baristas are not trained for this. The hotel also has restaurants with lots of local flavor. The sushi buffet is amazing but difficult to get a reservation on the weekends. 100 Sails also has a buffet though ordering ala cart seemed like the best choice for us. Best place to view the Friday fireworks. Our only disappointment was how much street noise we could hear throughout the night, even though we were on the 28th floor.

We stayed at the Diamond Tower and since we requested to be on a high floor, we were given the 30th floor; which was great! The room was clean and spacious. It was unfortunate that rooms don't have balconies. Views were awesome. We had a rental car, so we had to pay the daily $45 parking fee for self-park. Staff do work slow though... there were times where we had to wait a long time for the front desk staff. Overall, we had a good time here at this Hotel.

Room is spacious with a living room area that divides the sleeping room. Bathroom is twice as big compared to other hotels. The location is also excellent right in the center of Waikiki and within easy walking distance of so many great food options, shops, and attractions. The rooftop pool and hot tub are a nice bonus and a relaxing place to unwind after a day out. The gym is well maintained and has weights, a Peloton, one treadmill, an exercise bike, and two ellipticals. My only wish is that the gym was larger and had a wider variety of exercise equipment. Overall, Hokulani is a comfortable, convenient, family-friendly place to stay, and we always look forward to coming back. Pro tip: you can only ask for a later checkout the day of at 6:00AM. I wish I would have known sooner. Checkout is 10:00AM, late checkout is an hour later at 11:00AM. I booked the 2 doubles suite. The room has a great galley kitchen with all utensils, glasses, plates, full fridge with ice maker, microwave, etc. The bathroom is so huge and luxurious, separate tub and shower and bidet. My room had NO view, basically looking at another building. I was On the 7th floor. The rooftop pool is spacious and I liked the plunge pool and spa. The bar was closed which was disappointing. For the price and the room details I would definitely stay again.
