It's a nice hotel! Automatic 5 stars because Duke's and Blue Note give amazing service. They are both found inside this hotel, respectively. With Blue Note being on the first level and Duke's on the second. Blue Note has a great jazz club, chill, intimate vibe that is great for a night out if you have a favorite artist you want to see perform. Duke's has a great view of the ocean and it's always packed yet the service stays consistent and attentive. Overall a great place to stay, but just as great of a place to visit as well! read more

The Outrigger has a lot of potential simply because it's located right on Waikīkī Beach next to the Royal Hawaiian. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. We flew in on Monday and checked into a room with dirty sheets. Not exactly the welcome you expect. That evening, we saw a notice saying the water would be shut off the next day from 9:00-11:00 a.m. We spent the morning at the beach and the small pool. One odd thing to note: to get to the pool, you have to walk through Duke's outdoor dining patio in your wet swimsuit while people are eating. It's a very strange layout. The bigger problem was that the water was still off after 1:00 p.m. There were no working toilets, sinks, or showers, and even the hallway ice machine wasn't working because there was no water. We complained to the front desk and were simply told there was nothing they could do. The next morning, we were awakened at 6:00 a.m. by loud hammering overhead, followed by power tools starting around 8:30 a.m. When we stepped onto our balcony, construction debris was actually falling from the floor above. In the hallway, water was leaking through a ceiling light fixture. Security acknowledged the leak and said someone was coming to address it. The front desk acted as though this was the first they had heard of the construction. They insisted it was happening on the 10th floor, nowhere near our room on the 6th floor. I walked upstairs myself and immediately found a crew of construction workers gathered outside the elevator on the 7th floor--yelling to one another, hammering, with construction materials and debris everywhere. Clearly, the hotel knew there was active construction directly above occupied guest rooms. The next day the noise started at 5:30am. We called the desk and they said security was putting a stop to it. When I went downstairs security had no idea. Rowena at the front desk gave me the manager's business card, but every call went straight to voicemail. I was told the manager would arrive at 8:30 a.m. I never received a return call. This hotel is poorly managed. If construction is taking place directly above guest rooms, those rooms should not be rented. Between the dirty sheets, extended water outage, nonstop construction noise, falling debris, and lack of management response, this was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I've experienced. Also my courregges vintage sunglasses went missing from our room and I'd really like them back and credit for this memorable disappointment. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

This is my 2nd time staying in Waikiki. We wanted a beach front hotel so we decided on Outrigger Reef for a full week. To start off, I'd give the resort a solid 4/5, no more, no less. The location? It's great because it is literally beach front; however, it is on the southern most edge part of that beach area. This means that the beach right outside is jam packed with tourists coming and going and you would have to walk a decent ways up the beach to find a spot. Regardless, a beach front is a beach front so it's nice to get down there quick and enjoy the beach. The hotel is in a great spot in Waikiki because there are tons and tons of shopping stores and food areas within a 15 minute walk so you never really have to drive out. Monkey Pod restaurant down below has great reviews and is delicious, but I personally think their menu is quite small. They also have a pool side bar/cafe that serves drinks, snacks, and meals and is a secondary pool-side restaurant. They play music down there every night. It's very calm, quaint, and peaceful to enjoy a night in the hotel. Unfortunately, the prices of their drinks are ridiculously overpriced. $17 for a Mai Thai not including tip. Insane. The room? I would say pretty average for any decent hotel. It was clean, the bed was good, the pillows were nice and big. The balcony is small, but can sit two people to enjoy the outside. The down side is the rooms of the two towers of the hotel face each other. So you don't get a beach front view unless you pay the big extra for those rooms. My biggest gripe about the room was the shower. The whole 7 days the water would change from warm, hot, very hot, rinse and repeat every few seconds. The price? Very expensive, but that's the price you pay for a beach front hotel PLUS it being on Waikiki beach. There's probably not big deals/sales unless you buy it through Costco Travel which is what I did which saves you probably a couple hundred at the very least. Valet is automatically included which is another 60 per night (not including whatever few bucks you tip them whenever you go out) so this would easily rack up your bill. I'd say the closest free parking is at least a 20 minute walk one way. Despite my rating the hotel a 4/5, would I recommend this spot? It depends. If you are a newcomer to Oahu and want to experience the casual, tourist experience of Oahu, want that beach front hotel, and have the cash, I would recommend this. If you are not a newcomer, there are many other hotels that will suit many other tastes. And honestly, staying at any other hotel outside of Waikiki is probably best if you want to really save on money and see better beaches. read more

I really like this place. The hotel is situated in Waikiki and is easy access to all the shops, beaches , and wonderful food that O'ahu has to offer. You can park easily with valet and they have a Monkeypod as their restaurant. What an amazing view of diamond head. They have a small beach , I remeber it has been larger , Mother Nature has her ways. The morning sunrise and sunset from the breakwall is beautiful. Easy to get to right off the back steps of the hotel. It's actually kinda private now. Fort Derusey is on the right so you can head down to the Hale Koa and the other big hotels and the Alamoana Shopping Center is a 20 minute walk. I stayed at a three-star hotel here with my mom a year and a half ago and I'm not exaggerating it was five times nicer than this place! We stayed here for one night specifically due to their offering of free wedding vow renewals for guests. It made it so easy for us to plan our ten year when they did all the planning! We just show up (yes reserve ahead of time). It was such a special ceremony and they included our child as our flower girl. They had a ukelele player, hula dancer, and a beautiful officiant with a beautiful ceremony along with beautiful leis. Did I mention it was on the beach and barefoot!? Swooon. It was the best experience. The hotel itself was nice. A bit cramped but lovely amenities. We enjoyed their hula classes, lei making classes, and especially loved the salt water pool. This is a great hotel if you want to be right in the middle of Waikiki. Its located near a lot of things, food, beach, shopping, restaurants, are all near by, lots of people and amenities. The hotel has an ABC store in its lobby, so thats super convenient. Hotel staff was super nice,A+. The views and beach access are great. Pool and bar are great, and the Monkeypot is ok. Room was clean and well maintained. Beds were good and bathroom was nice, except for the door to the toilet. It didn't close all the way and thus not much privacy. The only bad issue we had with this hotel was the door "key" wrist band thing. We had 4 of them and could never get them to work well. At one point i stood there for 10 minutes trying to open the door. But over all this is a good place to stay in Waikiki. We would stay here again for sure. read more

Cost: Three night stay in early Feb. We reserved the Club Oceanfront room with King bed, with the Kama'aina discount. The nightly Kama'aina rate for this room was $454... or $1,362 for three nights. However, the additional charges bumped the total cost up to $1,694. Those charges included GET $19.99 per night, State Transient Accommodation Tax $46.68, County Transient Accommodation Tax $12.73, Parking $30 per night, and $1.41 Parking GET. Grand total of $1,694.43. Service: Check-in and check-out was a breeze, fast, friendly and super efficient. Very professional. Likewise, valet was very easy and fast. Room: Our Club Oceanfront room with King bed on the 7th floor of the Ocean Tower was very spacious, clean, and modern. You are issued a digital wristband to wear and you use it for the elevator and to open your room door. It was better than having to reach into your wallet for a room key. The view of the ocean and Diamond Head from the balcony is unbeatable. You are also issued a Towel Card which you exchange at the pool for two large beach towels. You are given your Towel Card back when returning the two beach towels. You MUST turn-in your Towel Card when you check-out, otherwise they will charge you $50. I guess they assume you either lost the towels or kept them, so ya gotta pay. Club Voyager 47: The Club room grants you access to the Voyager 47 lounge, which includes free mini buffet for breakfast (0630-0930) and a mini buffet for dinner (1630-1830). It includes an open bar for beer, wine, and cocktails too. The food items for bfast and dinner were rotated but never left us wanting for more. Dinner always had salad, fruits, and breads. We had chicken stir fry, pasta, coconut shrimp just to name a few. We enjoyed all the meals and felt it was worth the Club upgrade. Overall, a very pleasant staycation. We stayed here for the week and I have to say the service there was wonderful! All of the employees were nice and accommodating. Tough to get a spot by the pool unless you set up shop at 9am. The do have cabanas you can rent for 1/2 the day for $50 so you can be in the sun. The pool has shade until about noon. Not a heated pool. The breakfast for the Voyager 47 was club nice and the views on the ocean were great. The host made it easy to give your room number and take the hot breakfast on the patio or eat indoors. The also have snacks and happy hour in the afternoon from 4-6pm. Again staff is great! The one complaint, this is not the best ocean view property. The beach is super Small and being able to walk on the beach was very misleading. Also they were doing work in the lobby so it was not super Relaxing and quiet by the pool. Overall a great place but plan to have a vacation filled with kids a small pool and a very small beach. read more

This is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay in Waikiki. When I arrived, the front desk staff were friendly and there was live music playing in the lobby. It's a very inviting atmosphere. My problem with the resort, and it may be a common thing in the area were the high fees. Upon check in we were told there was another significant resort fee to pay on top of what we prepaid as well as a fee for a roll away bed even though online my room said there was a couch/pull out sofa available in this room type when there wasn't. Beautiful property and love the open area that is the front desk checkin, with lounges all around. The large pool is across from the checkin area along with all the lounges and covered seating you could want. The restaurant there is an open bar with tables and umbrellas for your outdoor dining. There is live Hawaiian music there every night from 6-9pm. Bonus! Poolside service also available of course. Delicious food, ate there several times. First impressions count. The gentlemen at the valet are the first employees that welcome you. So much aloha and smiles. Brought a walker in case the line for Blue Note is extra long. Instead of going up the escalator, walk straight past the bell desk then there is an elevator. Check in is on the lobby one floor up. Fast easy check in show them your ID and credit card for incidentals. You have a choice of wrist band or card key. You are given extra cards for pool towels. Elevators to the rooms are to the left by Blue Note. I was told City View but hubs chuckled cuz we can see a glimpse of the ocean to the left of Royal Hawaiian Hotel. I love that the beds are lower in this room so I don't need to tippy toe or hop onto the mattress. Ahhh a staycation in Waikiki. I am so impressed with Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Let me start off by saying that we used to stay at this resort many years ago, and then tried out the competition and stayed with the competition for many, many years. Well, until this year. Here's why we changed... We had reservations for the competitor until about a week and a half before our trip. Through the grapevine, not the hotel, we found out they had been on strike for several weeks. Without being contacted by the hotel to inform us, we did some investigating, and decided to cancel our reservation at the competitor and rebook at Outrigger. And to be honest, I and so happy we did. From the moment we arrived, Outrigger Reef showed us a great time. Rey at check-in was friendly and informative. Our room was absolutely stunning and comfortable. And I should mention, the resort went through an 80 million dollar renovation just a few years ago. Well done Outrigger, well done! Back to our room for a sec though. We had a suite on the 11th floor with an amazing view. The room was plush and modern. We loved it. There are 2 great restaurants, both super yummy, and an ABC store on property. The hotel is so clean, and smells so good. Every single staff member we encounter were great. The beach, beautiful Waikiki beach. This hotel is right on the beach. I mean, walk out the door and your toes are in the sand. You can find tons of space for sunbathing and lots of beach activities. The weather did not cooperate too much this trip, as it poured down rain almost everyday. But we still had the best time. $110 million dollar upgrade but felt outdated. Dim lights, dirty bathrooms with old fixtures, and the longest wait times for elevators. Mostly opted for the stairwell which stunk of garbage. We stayed 8 nights. Our room was serviced all of 4 times. We already had to accommodate the construction & less than ideal elevator situation (our choice, of course). Rooms themselves were fine; food was good. Food service was good; however, the look on one server's face when we told her we had vouchers for the buffet breakfast (in lieu of ordering off the menu) was priceless...not in a good way. The employees were so customer focused willing to help with every question and request. The concierge assisted us in finding the perfect outings, we had an amazing time! We loved watching the turtles swimming outside from our balcony and while walking on the beach behind the Outrigger. The only negatives were: 1) room keys are wrist bands and ours kept failing despite being replaced 3 times. 2) the valet service which was slow multiple days (15+ minutes) which was annoying as there weren't many of us waiting. We visited Hawaii twelve years ago and this was the hotel we chose and had a wonderful experience all those years ago and had an amazing repeat stay again. The location is fantastic, walking distance to the busy part of Waikiki but easy access via car to the major highways for trips while not cutting through Waikiki traffic. Valet parking service was always prompt and easy. The room was bright and airy and we were fortunate to be upgraded to the Ocean tower with a partial ocean view and Diamond Head view... the service was friendly and wonderful during our stay as well taking away the copious amount of sand we brought back from our travels. For our family of four it was one of the few hotels I could find in Waikiki with two proper queen beds (as opposed to double) and grateful for the extra space which allowed us to sleep well at night! We didn't partake of any of the resort activities but did enjoy the convenience of Starbucks near the lobby of the hotel, the ability to walk out of the hotel directly onto the beach, and the brief walk to the really yummy Halekulini Bakery. read more

Has a good unobstructed ocean view if you get a full ocean view room. Workers/ wait staff are courteous and polite. They seem happy to be there. A fancy hotel in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii... There are several upscale places to stay in the Aloha State... Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort is one of them. You can tell that it's a higher end resort from the decor, spaciousness, friendly staff, and cleanliness. When I entered, I felt the fresh air, heard the sounds of the water feature, enjoyed the live music, saw the pool and outrigger canoe before reaching the reception desk, and sat inside Starbucks for a bit to enjoy the air conditioning... LOL! My friend and I had just walked about seven blocks. That's where the free parking was! Haha! We waited a while to get our chance at the hanging platform sofa. It's at the front of the sitting area. There are comfy seats spaced out for families to wait for one another, but that hanging sofa... It's a draw... Like a magnet... The "younger generation" gravitated towards it! We decided to walk to the back to see the beach. On the way, we noticed that the floor had tiles with Hawaiian words and phrases! Along the hallway, all kinds of shops offered items that visitors might want and need: Yetis, towels, shell lei, clothing, books, surfboards, jewelry, gifts, etc. The beach (with a striking view of Diamond Head) has a "wall" that juts out into the ocean. We strolled along and stopped because a bunch of people were looking down and taking photos of something... We figured out that everyone was oohing and awwing at two gigantic sea turtles! We have never been so close to these magnificent creatures swimming in their habitats before! They were having their seaweed dinner on the rocks - literally! It was so cute to see the turtles pop their heads up once in a while to catch some air! Kawaii!!! Everyone squealed with joy! I don't know how long we stood there staring, but the waves came up onto the wall often. One wave was high enough to reach our thighs! Haha! Luckily, Hawaiian waves are on the warmer side and our dresses and footwear dried off by the time we reached the car... It was a unique experience in Waikiki! Auntie Nadine and I came here to have dinner at Monkeypod Kitchen. We were roaming around the hotel, since we got here early. We saw a Starbucks, Local Motion and ABC Store. They also had an Outrigger Canoe and a rocking couch in the lobby that everyone wants to sit on. The hotel is very nice and clean. We head over to the back of the restaurant and there's a few steps that lead onto the sand. Next to the sand is a wall that extends out into the ocean. Being the adventurous people that we are, we ventured out there. Both of our sandals and dresses got soaked from the small waves but it was worth it. We saw two huge green sea turtles. They were two feet away. That's the closest that I've even been to one. Auntie said that means that we're blessed. I hope so. read more

The TV has a Google Chromecast option which is amazing because you won't be limited to the screens of your devices. I haven't seen any other hotels with this feature. Rey at the front desk was insightful and efficient with our check in process. He even gave us an extra pool towel key card and Outrigger water flask since the room usually comes with just two. We had to kill time while we waited for our room to be ready but you can go across the street and get some spam musubi or stop by the ABC store. The bell desk held onto our things until our room was guaranteed at 3pm. The man who brought up our stuff with the mask under his chin was kind. The bed is big and wide. The pillows are plush but have structure so your head doesn't sink to the mattress. We were on the 10th floor so housekeeping didn't always get to us in time so if you're on the 10th floor definitely let the front desk know you'd like to schedule a cleaning. The beach is a walk away on the lobby level but this beach wasn't as plush as I thought it would be. My leg got cut up by rocks. A different beach we went to was softer. The toilet/shower area is separated by a frosty partition so if you want more privacy play some loud music or use the public restroom downstairs. There's a Starbucks conveniently downstairs near the drop off/pick up area. read more
