Mitch was so patient with my 6 month old puppy ! While it took an hour longer than I thought, my puppy's ears, feet, nails, rear and face were given expert attention. Mitch is absolutely great with my dog. Kobe goes berserk when put in a cage so Mitch takes care of him right away. He truly cares about the well being of my dog. The shop is not very big so there's not much sound to really bother him. He does exactly what I ask for & w/i 2 hours, usually less. Price is comparable to other shops. I don't live in Astoria but when Kobe needs groomed we come over. I have a friend that we stay with so that makes it easy all the way around. read more

It's really hard to find groomers who accept cats, not to mention ones who have actual experience grooming them. After a few bad experiences elsewhere, we started bringing our Persian cat here. During our last visit, he was able to brush out so much undercoat and mats! The floof cat is feeling way better as a result. Really knowledgeable with not just dogs but all aspects of kitty grooming, he's also upfront and honest with what he can and can't do. I really appreciate that he doesn't force her when she starts getting stressed and while my cat gets an attitude at times during grooming, she settles down immediately and is super chill after (unlike visits elsewhere). I have a 17 year old Silver Tip Chinchilla Persian who hates to be groomed on a daily basis.. between that and my neglect, about once or twice a year, she gets so bad that she becomes bound up and can barely walk.. (yes I hate myself for letting it happen) I have taken her to several places over the years with some really horrible results. Knowing what Mitch has taught me about grooming cats, she's been totally abused in the past based on what the results were as described to Mitch, in one case they probably pulled her coat out rather than cut it off! I just spent two hours and twenty minutes "helping" Mitch with the process of cutting "Baby's" matted coat off, I have never seen a man with more patience (or a kitty either for that matter) It truly was an ordeal for all involved! Kitty never once "said ouch" she only starting to bitch once we got to close to two hour mark! Anyway, I told Mitch that I'd travel a couuple hundred miles to have my girl taken care of! And I meant it! WOW, I just read down the reviews a bit and it sure as heck looks like someone is on a smear campaign against Mitch and his business. The place is not dirty, it's OLD.. The building is probably 60 years or older... I've been an Internet publicist for several different factions over the years and I know all about reputation smear campaigns. I'd love to see the IP records of that group of negative messages from "different" people.. I've been there three times with two different cats and he's the man! read more

I do not recommend this business. The main reason is that they did not know which dog belonged to which owner, or which dog was which. I was told my dog would be ready around 2/3:00. I called at 2:45 to check in and they told me it come at 4:00. At 4pm they said they needed 15 more minutes. Then, a dog that was not mine was presented to me wearing my dog's harness and leash. I told her that one's not mine. She was apologetic and said they didn't know which dog was which or who they belonged to. She said they looked so much alike--this dog was brown and 15-20 pounds heavier than mine, who is pure white. She said I could come into the back to see my dog. She procedded to tell me that he had been finished since 3pm when I called to check in. He was in a crate with a collar on that was not his. I grabbed my dog and got out there as fast as possible. She was apologetic and said she was mortified but I felt that is no excuse. Due to this unprofessional behavior, I worry my dog may have been sent home with the wrong person in a worst case scenario. He also sat in a crate for an extra 1.5 hours although his grooming was done do to their mix up. Secondly, we waited 15 minutes at the front desk at drop off even though we had a 11:00 appointment. We had to go back into the grooming area and yell at the groomer (headphones on drying another dog) to get his attention that we were waiting to drop our dog off. I gave 2 stars because my dog's haircut was on par, although I feel overpriced at $95.00. We wont be returning to this business due to these reasons. read more

I brought my super relaxed Saint Bernard in for a wash. She is not an outside dog and was not really that dirty to start with. Had previously been washed at home 6 weeks prior. When my husband picked her up, he was told that the bath was $120 dollars. When he explained that the shop should warn people before charging them an exorbadant amount for a dog washing, she yelled back to her husband that "we didn't think he did a good job." My husband had to yell after her "That's not what I said at all." She then asked us not to come back with our dogs.. "Oh don't worry honey, you just charged me $120 to wash my dog, I won't be coming back" was the natural response. read more

I have a shih tzu and a lasso Maltese poodle. Both of them have separation anxiety. The owner always recognizes them and is very kind when giving haircuts. I feel comfortable dropping my dogs off knowing they'll be in competent hands. He baths them and air drys them so if dogs are afraid of dryers they aren't freaking out, which makes their haircut process longer but that's okay. Thanks for taking care of my fur babies read more

I took my dogs here for nail clipping when I first moved to town. I was with my dogs the whole time, as I have been at a couple of other groomers because my dogs are both rescues and nervous in new environments. and this couple scared the heck out of me and my dogs. Yelling at full volume back and forth on an echo-y, loud music, no eye contact with me, just chaos. The guy showed 0 compassion for my dog, which he muzzled and held down while he screamed. I was out of there and never went back. I work nearby and regularly hear him screaming at dogs, "don't ignore me, I'm talking to you, get back here, god#%^*." Or just, "shut up, shut up, SHUT UP" Three years later I'm writing this review because I think people should know how their dogs are treated when they're NOT around. The guy regularly yells at dogs, angrily, and he sounds pretty out of control. For the sake of fur-people, I'd strongly recommend finding a another place to have nails clipped and coats groomed, one that is peaceful and kind. read more

Our little rat terrier Was in need of a nail trim while we were only the road. He is a rescue dog and have had his nails trimmed twice. Both times they just clipped the end not much done. This time he got the nail trimming the way he needed. He's happy now with properly cut nails and he thinks he looks good. Good job read more

I'm really wanted to like this place as we live nearby and always want to shop local. I Brought my Spoo in for the first time already groomed and pretty clean. I often groom her myself so I appreciate the work involved & don't mind paying. My dog is well behaved and easy to groom. I Asked for a bath, blow dry and nails. I picked her up 2 hours later just as dirty, damp not blow dried and was charged a whopping $60.00! I wish I could post a picture. Darn it. I tried this place last weekend and will never go back again. My little dog is a rescue from a puppymill. Very sweet but still very scared of new places and people. Her normal groomer is in Longview and she's very gentle with her. I decided to try Astoria because I had some things to do in town that day. It took him almost 4 hours.. when I picked her up she was shaking very hard and scared to death. I had explained her situation but apparently he was so busy that day he wasn't concerned. When I got her home I started looking at her and she had cuts and scratches all over and her skin was super red. She was just completely traumatized. I will NEVER take her there again. I feel horrible I put her through that. read more

If I could give half of one star I would. I actually like this place at first, they were friendly to your face but once they are in the back they are awful. I waited all day for my dog took almost five hours. I was actually walking into the building when he called me and told me ten more minutes. I decided to wait in his lobby with my daughter and I could hear him talking about me and my dog. This man called me a bitch to his assistant. He was doing finishing work on my dogs face and I heard this man tell my dog you don't bite the scissors and proceeded to hit my dog three times on the head. As a professional groomer you should never hit a animal especially one who is nervous well getting a hair cut. I yelled to the back did you just hit my dog! He sent his assistant out and you can tell she knew I heard it all. I still paid the $75 for his haircut. He did give him a beautiful cut but I wouldn't let him complete the finishing work. I will never take another animal to this man. You don't hit someone else's animal especially as a professional groomer. read more

I took my dog in for grooming. She has a heavy coast and wanted her trimmed. She has a bushy tail and wanted about half inch trimmed off. When I picked her up she had been shaved. Her body, her feet, and about two inches of her tail up from her butt. The length was not touched. The shave is unbelievably uneven. When we got home I discovered she had been nicked on her left eyelid. When I looked on their web sight, they only had 5 star reviews. What joke. Never again. My 7 year old, 145 lb. Malamute is a super tough customer. Very gentle and sweet, but strong and stubborn as hell, and he HATES getting bathed. I have gotten my boy back in beautiful condition each time I have gone here. (2x) Mitch could tell I was nervous leaving him, as it's quite a job. I love this little quirky place and will continue to go here. This place did a wonderful job grooming and bathing our 85 pound lab. He is sooo soft and smells delicious and they took extra time with him due to his plentiful fur. Most importantly he is kind of a grump and when we picked him up he was clearly in love with the groomer. We live in Portland but this was an excellent find in Astoria and we will be back! read more

I moved to the area about 3 months ago and decided I needed to find a local groomer for my pup. I had called a groomer in Warrenton, but they were booked thru the end of the year, so I called Astoria Grooming. They were able to get me in, in 2 days - GREAT! I dropped my pup off and expected it to be about 1.5 hours, as it usually is when he goes to the groomers. I sat in the parking lot for just over 2 hours. I finally went inside thinking he would be ready or just about ready. I went in and no one was at the desk. I waited for 15 minutes before I said "hello, anyone here?". I said I was there to pick up my pup. I was told he was "soaking". REALLY???? You've had my pup for over 2 hours and he's soaking???? Still needed to be washed, dried, cut, nails, ears, anal glands, etc. The groomer was VERY rude!!!!!!! I took my pup (wet and ungroomed) and left. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NEVER GOING HERE... Mitch and his crew went way, way beyond the call of duty for my 100-pound dog, Clancy. He is 13 or 14, and a collie/St. Bernard mix, with very long hair and a massive undercoat. And, he hates to let me groom him. Poor Clancy is pretty crippled from arthritis, and until a new pill regimen he started a month ago helped him get around a bit better, couldn't get into a car to go to be groomed. Sooo, he was a tangled, matted, ratty awful mess when he arrived at Astoria Grooming. I warned Mitch that Clancy couldn't stand up for a shave, and he said not to worry, and I didn't. Mitch and his crew got down on the floor and shaved Clancy almost to the skin (which was desperately needed, and took several hours), gave him a lovely bath, and clipped his nails. Had an appointment for 10 AM. We live 45 minutes away. My hubby got our dog there and was told he'd be done by 3- 5 hours later. They called me (at home sick) saying come get your dog, I don't have time to finish "her". My husband went and got our extremely cooperative dog who was washed but not groomed. I had taken Teddy (him) there once before and a very nice young woman did a great job. This was a guy who was obnoxious and should be a bagger at Walmart. read more

THE WORST!!! We are vacationing in Astoria for the summer. I brought my dogs to this groomer to try her out, but NEVER again ! I walked into the shop on the day of the appointment, and immediately got the sense that I should turn around and walk out. My first clue was that the shop looks like a crazy person decorated it, with "stuff" everywhere. After meeting the owner, perhaps that is an accurate assessment. Usually, when we go to a new groomer, the groomer will come out and spend a little time getting to know the dogs and letting the dogs become comfortable with them. This groomer, CONNIE, did not take the time. She just took the dog's names and got them into the back as quickly as possible, with no regard to their or my comfort. Not a good sign. The space is tight, and the grooming area is not visible from the entry, so I was unable to determine the cleanliness of the grooming area or if my dogs were put into kennels. A little background: My pets were first groomed as puppies, and have been groomed every 6 weeks for the past 12 years. They are grooming pros, and enjoy the experience. Literally, these are some of the most docile dogs on the planet. Our groomer always comments how well behaved they are and how much they seem to enjoy their spa days. NOT THIS TIME. My beloved pets came back to me TRAUMATIZED, with CUTS on their skin(!), and really bad haircuts. One of my dogs came back with a cut on her leg, and another came back with her face scalped, a cut on her nose very near to her eye and, another on her paw. The face cut was so severely that I am a little concerned there might be some damage to her tear duct. The haircuts themselves were very uneven, and you could easily see sheer lines. When I went to pick the dogs up, I could tell immediately by their behavior that something was wrong. When I asked Connie if there had been any incident, she said no, but then proceeded to tell me that my dogs like to snap and bite. This was a first for these docile pups! She went on and on about how badly behaved they were and made a point of telling me how matted they were. (She had commented how glad she was that they were not matted when I dropped them off that morning) When I dropped the dogs off, I alerted Connie that my male dog's ears are very sensitive and to leave them alone, but came back to learn that she had completely ignored my request. She told me that his ears are sensitive because they were matted in back and she took care of that and cleaned them out as well. Are you kidding me??? His ears have been extremely sensitive all his life. Perhaps this is why he snapped? I listened to this nut go on and on about how skilled she was, with 30 years of experience. I listed to her tell me how my elderly, docile dog was hostile because he has Chow in him. I listened to her tell me how ill behaved my dogs were. All I could think then and now is, "Wow, in 30 years you have managed to learn nothing about your craft." What she has done is fool herself into thinking that she is the best, and she spent a lot of time trying to convince me of that as well. She is definitely not the best; far from it. Finally, when I asked for the bill, the price just kept going up.....+ $5 for snapping, +5 for matting, $5 for this and $5 for that....it was like she was making it up as she went along. I was happy to pay anything just to get out of the shop. Do yourself and your pet a favor and STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP. read more

The shop is dirty and when walking I it took ten minutes efote I was acknowledged. I should have left.i did not. When Mitch came we talked anout the cut I wanted. He said it would be three hours, it was five hours and again waited for thirty minutes before he came to the front even with my ringing the bell. I heard him talk unkindly you the dog I presume he was working on. The cut was too short which he blamed on mats. However I had just brushed him and there were not enough mats to warrant the cut. After taking him home we found abrasion and a cut both by his testicles! There were burns on his feet. The rest of the story is during a full week of crying, hibernating under the bed and not allowing us to love on him very often. We tried putting medications on his wounds with lot of resistance to both antibiotics cream and pain cream. A full weak later we took him to the vet who prescribed an antibiotic as the puppy had a fever and pain medication. The good news our puppy has his personality back and no longer acts psycho. I would think twice before using this groomer! read more

The only reason I would return to this business is if I wanted to overpay for a lousy shave job for my dog again. When I called to make the appointment I gave the person who answered the phone the breed and weight of my dog. My dog is well within his breed's height and weight parameters per AKC standards. When I arrived the woman informed me that my dog was over height and size, an opinion she evidently based on a web picture she showed me on her phone. Therefore, she said, she would have to charge an extra $20. I was new in town and my dog needed grooming so I agreed. When I returned to pick him up, he had been shaved head to toe to tail. She informed me that my regularly groomed dog was matted, which he was not. To make matters even worse, it was a lousy, uneven shave job. read more

Terrible, took my dog in for a hair cut and got a shave, disappointed in the results. After leaving the shop I noticed my dog was licking his leg, took a look and discovered a mole had been removed with the clippers. The leg leg was bleeding and obviously there was pain with the dog licking his wound. Called the shop looking for an apology but was amazed at the response, I was told that nicks happen and dogs bleed he will heal. What I was really looking for was a apology and we could have been fine. When I informed the lady that it was a little more than a nick the lady got angry and told me if I wasn't happy i should just go somewhere else. So much for the apology. I will take her advice and go elsewhere. My recommendations to anyone who might read this is STAY AWAY. That lady has a mean streak. read more

I took my new little rescue there to be groomed and Connie was wonderful. She doesn't cage the dogs so he felt more comfortable. The haircut was WONDERFUL. People were coming up to ask me on walks where I got him groomed. I am only here six months a year and I never get the same quality haircut when I'm gone. Our dog was badly in need of a makeover. He had been missing for almost six weeks. Before he disappeared he already had a longer coat for winter. This was not a good combination. We were so lucky to have him come home the day before our spring vacation. As soon as we picked him up we knew he could not wait for a groom. I am not kidding when we say we were embarrassed to even take him in to the groomers. He was a mess! As soon as we got into town we searched for groomers nearby. Thankfully we found Astoria Grooming. The man who groomed our dog was very friendly and professional. He told our boy he would feel like a new dog when he was done with him. He told us it would only be a couple hours until we could pick him up! Bonus! We didn't want to spend all day away from him after finally getting him back. When we arrived to pick him up he looked so happy and content to be there. He did an amazing job. Our boy feels so much better having all that fur off of him. He gave him an adorable trim. He really looks and feels great. He is picture perfect for all of our touristy pics. :) His prices were very reasonable and he took great care of our boy. We are very thankful we found this groomer. We definitely recommend this place. We want to come back on our next vacation. read more
