Used to shop here all the time when my ex and I lived on 28th Avenue and we loved just walking over there and smelling all the fresh fruits and veggies from a block away. Kinda how you can smell weed from a dispensary a few blocks away . But hands down you can't beat the freshness and price and the service is so prompt the employees are very knowledgeable and speedy. Astoria Market is definitely a hidden Gem in Queens for both Christmas and Valentine's seasons ! I have been faithfully attending @ the warm and welcoming Bohemian Hall for the last six years and am always glad that I did . What sets it apart is the variety , quality and affordability of the vendors who are always helpful and super-friendly ! And , I hardly ever leave empty-handed even if it's a simple gift item of homemade knitted Winter -wear, an artistic portrait /postcard or just a festive selection of tea and coffee from around the World !! Queens vs. Brooklyn- I contemplate this question often as this former BK girl turned Manhattan girl is obsessed with the Queen borough. I did compare this market to Bk flea and it is so different yet here are my thoughts: Small and intimate- the vendors say hi to you...little pretension A bargain all around compared to BK for vintage and new stuff Lots of food samples- bought a mini cheesecake for $7 and an empanada for $2.50 Nice selection of goods It is in Bohemian Hall- a hundred year old Czech venue- mad cool space Enjoyed the nabey, Queensy feel of this market minus the occasional BK 'tude read more

Yelp is plugging the whole "buy local" thing this year for the holidays, and this was a good chance to see what's available in a small and intimate setting. plus I ran into Jando at the Yelp table as well as fellow Yelpers Annie and Jonathan! wooo, new pack of Yelp mints for my car! while most of the products tend towards artsy/jewelry stuff, it's still cool to see some local businesses get a place to shine outside of just websites or word-of-mouth. t-shirts, artwork, pottery, necklaces, and even some food vendors are all here. I kind of expected more tables, but that's only because I've never actually been in this part of the Bohemian Beer Garden/Hall. I want to say there were about 30 merchants...one of whom I think was the girl who played Mel, the stalker chick, on "Flight of the Conchords". got a chance to talk to a few vendors and they were friendly peeps. if you're a fan of coffee and tea, there are two tables of vendors there. one of them (Chuck's Hawaiian Coffee and Tea) has strawberry/lychee tea. had some of it last night - amazing! not that cheap, but really good quality. close to public transit, or if you drive there is ample parking nearby. definitely swing by if you get a chance! read more

I've been witness to the metamorphosis of the Astoria Market since its inception. The organizer's do everything to promote the vendors, so I am shocked by some of the disgruntled posts. The organization that I represent has earned press from the Huffington Post, NY Family Magazine, and Why Leave Astoria? due to the promoter's tireless efforts. It seems that the Astoria Market has a demographic of choosy shoppers that browse and then buy at the end of the day. So those who pack up early may have lost out of potential buyers. As a vendor, there have been times that I have only earned between $100 to $500. I agree that it's hit and miss. But the hits outweigh the few misses. Best day ever were sales of $995! read more

I dig this grass-roots movement for artists in Queens! It's nice to see the continual growth occurring at Astoria Market. I just LOVE what this is about and what it means for Queens. It's also really nice to see the focus businesses in Astoria are putting on supporting local artists and vendors. It's so refreshing to have the opportunity to meet the person(s) responsible for the creation of a product line face to face and to learn more about the why's and how's. It just makes shopping so much more pleasurable when the person doing the selling is invested in the wares and goods vs. just selling. I went with a group of friends for the Valentine's Market in Astoria's Bohemian Hall because I was curious. I tasted cookies and treats, found some new etsy shops to shop from and found and one of my friends found an amazing sweater from a soon-to-be roaming shop called NOMAD. If it hadn't been for Astoria Market's efforts, I wouldn't even know this AWESOME store exists. I will continue to follow Astoria Market to see what they are up to and shop with them. read more

While not big, every vendor here is local and a lot of the stuff is very unique. You might not find something of interest but then again you might. And unlike a lot of other weekend markets, everything here seems to be new and hand-made, rather than slightly used/vintage. It's like a live version of Etsy. At worst, you'll be stuck next to an amazing beer garden and a bunch of other unique eateries that make Astoria a unique and historic part of NY, so it's really a no-lose situation if contemplating a visit. read more

What is the point behind hyping up an event when the vendors look miserable, complained, and packed up early. I spoke to many vendors there, some being particularly nice while others.... not so nice; however, it was understandable since a few told me their story. As much as I wanted to buy items from them, to at least cheer them up and boost their morale, I just couldn't. Which fair did I go to? The one by Columbus circle... I was in the city for Santa Con to begin with and my friend suggested that we go by there. First of all, the individual who planned this event... got the address wrong. Second of all, when I walked in... from the vendors (its was 3pm and some tables were empty) it was dead and by dead I mean NO traffic. Honestly, I would have rather gone to the bar (as suggested by others) rather than to this disappointment. This wasn't the first time it has happened with Astoria Market. When I used to visit Bohemian Beer Garden (before I moved), I visited the vendors at the Astoria Market and there must have been at least 15 vendors... they all looked miserable (aside from the table with the cupcakes and their beer. You can't be miserable with that) but it just took less than 10 minutes to check out the handmade and home made goods. Its nice to just pass time and to diddle daddle. Thats it. Also, what was up with the dude holding the sign outside of the market? He acted as if he was high or looking to stalk people with the sign. Next time you advertise, please be better at it. Epic fail? Sadly. I feel bad for the vendors that have to spend time and money. read more

Since Astoria Market felt compelled to reply to my boyfriend's (Jordan D) negative review, (this is still an open forum for review right?) I feel the need to write one as well, less anyone think we didn't get "our facts straight". I didn't realize we you had to be on par with the New York Times fact checker to write a yelp review but, ok. We did in fact arrive during normal business hours 12pm-6pm , I know, for a FACT, ah-ha, buzz word used :) because we enjoyed a lovely brunch at Sparrow Tavern before hand. The amount of vendors was extremely limited, mostly jewelry, one clothing boutique, one photographer, and yes one bakery. I think it's nice that Astoria has a market like this, there's nothing wrong with it per say, it's just definitely not what we expected in scale or variety. read more

I LOVE Astoria Market and have participated as a vendor in almost every one! This review is based on my experience as a vendor, rather than a shopper. If it were not for Astoria Market I would never have been featured in Time Out NY which was not only exciting for me as a business owner but also very rewarding financially. :) I sold a LOT of the item that had been featured. I've also been in several other publications because of this market. As for other vendors giving up and packing early, I'm pretty sure that no one is going to buy their things when they are in a bag in the trunk of their car. I do know that in larger shows that I do in other areas of the country you would never be allowed to participate again if you were rude enough to pack early. It is disrespectful to the other vendors and shows a lack of drive which is necessary to be a successful entrepreneur. I can't tell you how many times I've had my biggest sale at the last minute of a show. Not just at Astoria Market but other venues as well. So, if you want to sell your handmade wares, develop a thick skin, build a solid customer base, have patience, tweak your product & display when necessary and if you're in NW Queens or anywhere in NYC for that matter, give Astoria Market a try. The market is clearly run by promoters who do not know the business. You cannot have market with 75% of vendors selling the same thing. You cannot have a market without serious advertising! And the fee is well above the norm for the amount of foot traffic. Vendor markets are always a gamble BUT...when several vendors are complaining, as well as customers, something is wrong. I can totally believe the negative reviews here. Over priced, mismanaged, a total waste of time. Sorry! read more
