Harry is a very easy to talk to and someone who has lived and breathed military antiques since they were surplus items in the 1960's so I was lucky enough to get the chance to pick his brain a little. I had a wonderful experience talking to him, and seeing some pieces such as a WW2 Japanese battleship flag in wool which is something I have only seen in books. I bought some really grade A antiques at what I think were fair prices. I would recommend calling him if you have any questions or want to sell something. If you have even a passing interest in military antiques, Sparr's is worth the visit for the experience. This is a 5/5 for me.

The folks who run the shop are super nice and allow the customers to roam and browse freely . I grabbed a foot stool , a few small paintings and mini statues that will be added in my man cave . They also have different types of jewelry which also look interesting but I don't really wear bling , so maybe next time . It is unique, they do have great finds there. I got a reasonably priced Art Deco/Nouveau dresser there that they delivered (for $50). Keep in mind they will expect you to carry half of it up that walk up). Every time I walk down Houston I have to stop here. Who knows what you will find?!? I wish i did some sort of art direction to utilize the insane amount of unique antiques and props that are there. I had a deeply frustrating experience that calls into question how fairly their process is conducted. I expressed clear interest in a specific lot while it was actively listed, only to have it abruptly removed without explanation. When I inquired, I was told the piece had been sold outside of the auction process through a priority purchase. However, when I pressed for more clarity, the representative then backtracked and said she wasn't actually sure whether it had been sold. The shifting explanation was misleading and gave the impression that the story was being adjusted after the fact to make the situation more palatable This undermines the fundamental premise of an auction- fair and open competition. Pulling a lot midstream and moving it elsewhere, combined with inconsistent explanations, suggests a lack of transparency at best. At a minimum, I would have expected a straightforward explanation and the courtesy of being informed, especially after expressing direct interest. Instead, the experience felt opaque and dismissive. If you're considering working with this auction house, be aware that listed inventory may not actually be available for bidding- even if you've already engaged. That's not a standard I would expect from a reputable auction platform.

Working with Claire was a very pleasant experience. At our first meeting, Claire photographed EVERYTHING. When she and Amos, a principle with the company, returned a few weeks later, they had thoroughly researched the art market. Their offer for my art and furnishings was reasonable and I readily accepted. The movers came a week later and I couldn't have been more pleased with the entire process.
