One of the best skate parks I have ever seen is in little ol' Waukegan, IL. They have a small shop but jam-packed with everything you need, from shoes and shirts, to decks, bearings, trucks, and grip tape. Super friendly associates, even friendly, chatty customers. This is a massive indoor park, and an outdoor ramp is just outside the building. They offer military discounts, memberships, birthday parties...On the day we went, it was lock out Friday! Meaning, you get to skate all night, 10pm-7am for $35, with pizza and drinks provided. This place is the real deal, the cat's pajamas. read more

This is a great place that remodels often. The employees are super helpful. Everyone I know here is encouraging. It's a very good environment. They have drinks and snacks for sale too. Wow! This place is huge and the owners are amazing. My kiddos just started getting into the scooter scene and spent a great amount of time in the spring and summer hanging out at the nearby park district skate parks. Now that it's the winter season, they've been a little antsy and for their birthday they received a gift card to check out the Asylum. We stopped by today to see the place out and pick up their gift card and had the best first experience. The owner gave us the grand tour and explained how everything works, discussed the various programs, hours, and the best times to stop by for optimum scooter time. The magic happens behind one door and you enter a huge room with ramps for BMX bikes, skateboards, and scooters. There is a balcony for parents who want to wait for the kids (but most kids don't really want their parents to stop by), and it seems like there are some smaller more beginning ramps and then more advanced ones. Mind you, this review is written by a parent who is new to the scene, but I approve...especially because the resident cat is so darn cute. Great gift shop with shoes, gear, accessories, and simple food and drink. Check out the photos for more specifics. It's a far drive, but with a group of friends I imagine it to be a great time. They also have skate camps, lessons, party options, and a special time for "old" kids. My boys are feeling nervous and a bit intimidated, but I know they are also excited. Arrived with our 13 yr old hoping for a safe skate environment. While they open at 10, the doors were open at 9:57, so we popped in to look around their shop while waiting to confirm our registration. Young man came from the skating area, mask around his neck. He took a call without his mask also, even though signs say to wear a mask in their shop. When we asked him to mask up, he arrogantly asked us "why? Are you sick? Because I'm not sick". Followed by "according to my boss who pays me, I'm exempt from having to wear a mask". I mean, if that doesn't give ya the warm and fuzzies.. we are a YEAR into a pandemic where half a million American lives have been LOST. This young man is a prime example as to why that is. His delusion forced my family to take our business elsewhere, and I highly recommend you do the same. Arrogant, unprofessional, and reckless. No thanks. read more

I love this place! I don't know why there are bad reviews about asylum. My son, my nephew and I went here and had the Time of our lives. The staff was young but they were respectful and it's nice to see young kids working for a buck. They where knowledgeable and explained all the camps they offer for the different seasons. Honestly throw on a helmet grab your skateboard or scooter and go shred for a couple hours! What else could you expect? If you're a worrisome parent I can understand that you would be nervous watching your child skate. But honestly that's more of a personal problem and not asylums. 5 Stars guys! Decent size and clean indoor skate park with a second level balcony with tables and chairs for parents and spectators to wait and hang out. It is well lit and well maintain facility with some heating which really help during the winter months. The only comment about this facility is they did not enforced mandatory wearing of helmets unlike other indoor skatepark. Overall, it is a great place. Have fun!! read more

This place is great for skateboarding and scooters. The kids love it, it's very affordable and it's a positive environment. There is a nice sense of community for the kids to share and teach each other tricks. I think the bathrooms need to be cleaned up, but besides that I love it. read more

We are on vacation from So. Cal and our 14 year old was getting antsy. It was raining during our week in Chicago and we found Asylum skate park. It is about a 40 minute drive to get there but well worth it. The owners are some of the nicest people you would meet in any business. They couldn't be nicer. My son is a street skater and really liked this place. The hours are wrong on the Yelp page. They are open at noon. They have a nice skate shop and their signature Asylum skate shop log with Chicago skyline in the background looks great. My son bought a nylon jacket with the logo on the back. They offer burgers and pizza and soft drinks . If you purchase $50 in the shop you can skate for free next visit. They also have two cats. One is really friendly and comes out to greet people. No masks, disorganized, skating was crowded and Chaotic. Zero covid policies and no interest in them. Zero enforcement of capacity, mask enforcement, sanitizing. They are in denial and this place is a vector for the disease for sure. read more

They have lots of rails and the ramps; scooters, skateboards, and bikes are welcome. They have good flow which leads to more speed and better overall skate-ability. The instructors have been great, we have worked with Mitch and Trevor. They have been instrumental in helping my daughter improve. Great place to skate with lots of cool retail. read more

I went here after looking on line for a nearby skate shop that could do some repairs on my daughters skateboard that we had gotten a very cheap from a yard sale. We did not know what might need to be done on it. The owner was there and could've very well sold us much more than he did Without us knowing any better. We wound up replacing the deck and some of the bolts because they were rusted. He did all the work and the skateboard came out beautiful! We plan on returning to use the park itself. read more
