The wife and I dropped in for the first time to check the place out and to get in our fitness steps. It was very nice to use the free, uncrowded, and comfortable walking track in the Athletic Field space. The weekday walking hours are 6am-4pm, except Wednesday when it is 8am-4pm. The walking track encircles an indoor soccer field. There are also free lockers for the storage of your personal items. At the risk of ruining things with this review lol, this place is a hidden gem for us! As I was looking around at the historical info ads about this long standing facility, I took a photo of the past Olympians from this ice center. A voice out of nowhere said "make sure to get a photo of the guy in red". The guy in red in the ad photo was David Santee, a two time (1976 and 1980) USA Olympian and sure enough the voice out of nowhere belonged to none other than David Santee himself lol! You can check the photo - he's not a fake and he is a retired director of this facility and also currently a skating coach here. Pretty cool coincidental run-in and David is a very loyal Park Ridge native, hooray! Besides the Athletic Field, there is the Ice Arena which houses a brand new studio rink for their figure skating and hockey programs. Big thumbs up for this new community asset and congratulations to the Park Ridge Park District on the completion of their very successful rebuild project.

As I write this review for what's currently listed on Yelp as Oakton Ice Arena (until the updates I submitted are approved, anyway), it's actually a completely new facility. That's not hyperbole--the place was rebuilt from the ground up. I never visited the old arena, but have been to the new one several times since I live nearby and we also attended the grand opening of the new facility (which opened in August 2025). In addition to the main ice rink, they have a studio rink which is a fraction of the size, as well as an indoor athletic field. There's an indoor walking track that forms the perimeter of the athletic field, and though they open at 9 a.m., the walking track opens at 6 and is free of charge to use. They have a nice concessions area, which includes an outdoor patio in the warm weather months. As a park district facility, they have a variety of events and classes and you can also rent space in the building for your own events. There's classes for all ages; I signed my daughter up for baseball (the only girl!) and we'll try soccer in a few weeks. I'm also curious about the adult ice skating classes, and I'll definitely be looking into the children's ice skating when she's old enough to enroll. They have adult leagues for broom ball, volleyball, ice bocce, basketball.... The instructors are top-notch as well. I believe the facility has a golf range that will be opening in spring or summer 2026. There's a lot of parking here. I haven't ever seen it near full. They have quite a few electronic vehicle spots with chargers; possibly too many tbh but I'm probably misremembering how many there are. I love this club so much!…read more I don't live in the Chicago area anymore, but have travelled here the last two years for their women's bonspiel, and am blown away by how amazing this club is! The members I've met are so kind and hospitable. They feed us well (during bonspiels), the bar staff is great, and the ice is top notch! My husband played in one of the open bonspiels last year and had a great time as well. As someone who plays on arena ice I am so envious of what a great facility they have. The viewing area accommodates a lot of people, the tables are spaced out enough that it doesn't feel too cramped, there always seems to be napping happening over by the fireplace, and the little museum room has a lot of fun history of curling. And this last time (2018), was a banner year, with the US Men's Team winning gold for the first time ever. Woo hoo! But curling has been a great sport for a long, long time. And the Chicago Curling Club has been a big part of that here in the mid-west for like 150 years or so. Let's talk about why. Well, first, the CCC is a great group of folks. The mid-west is renowned for being friendly and polite, right? Well, the folks at the CCC are that times 2. Super friendly and ready, willing and able to not only teach you about the sport of curling, but just as happy to talk about whatever else is on your mind, all while buying you a beer. Seriously, I have yet to find a nicer bunch of folks anywhere in the country. Then, there is curling itself. Yeah, there are some competitive folks (hell, you can;t go to the olympics, much less win, without being competitive, right?). But there are a TON of leagues at the club that are purely for fun. Rookies, pick-up and other leagues that even the newest of newbies can join and have fun at. Add to all of that the social aspect. Multiple FREE events throughout the year, just for socializing and community. This is the kind of place that literally anyone can feel at home. Finally there is the sport of curling itself. Look, I like to veg out as much as the next guy. But this is damn near the only sport I could play, for fun or competitively, where I can literally have a beer while I play. Bad knees? No problem. Need hyper cardio? Got ya covered. Just want to play for fun and socialize? Check. Want to belong to a group that has fun and contributes to the community? You could do way worse! The CCC is a great group of folks, with a great facility, and perpetuating a great sport, all while contributing to the community at large. Swing by, have a beer, and learn to curl. I guarantee you'll have a great time, and you just might change your life.

It is sad that the Jerry's Pro Shop is no longer (thanks COVID), as well as the arcade that once existed in the first room to the left when you enter. I cannot speak on any of the specific programs (i.e. Renegades) since its been over a decade since I last played, though I've been few times here and there for public skates. Pricing for that seems reasonable, though I've had my own blades to use. The only negatives I could mention is that the Men's restroom is in a bit of disrepair, and that's why this review is down a star. Otherwise, it's still the same I as I remember. I can fully believe that the renovations were done with the future of the the greatest sport ever in mind. My dad played in the inaugural mens league season at this place, and i've been a couple times for stick - n - puck sessions. Most recently, I was there with my friend earlier this year for a public skate. Loved the vibes from the start. I expected it to be a light turn out (cause lets face it ice skating is not a top 10 spring activity), but I was certainly surprised to see a good crowd, especially for a week night. The Ice was pretty good and smooth, and there were no true issues with the overall experience. The Bar and Grill is also a nice touch as well. I was able to experience the food not too long ago, as someone I knew had a birthday skating party there. The pizza was cooked nicely and had great flavor and crisp overall. This business is a standout in this mall for sure, and I love how they repurposed the old Olympia as a promotional prop. I absolutely cannot say enough about Top Shelf!

However we needed to changes to our skate sizes and the line quickly grew (to pay) and there was no help for those waiting to get different skates. Based on what we saw, the programs here are well managed and the ice is well maintained (though a little rough in patches). There is plenty of parking if you're visiting. The only complaint is that the "so-called" visitor seating is very small and as a visiting parent I was shocked to be asked to move to the "right" section. Of course I didn't, because I was comfortable at center ice so I could see my son play at both ends. Aside from the unfriendly welcome from the opposing team, I think this is a great place to enroll your kids or come in for an open skate!

Never once have I been here and the ice was smooth. Huge gashes in the ice which cause the less experienced skaters to fall more frequently. It's very dangerous actually. I DO NOT recommend this rink if you're a new skater or would like to teach your young ones how to skate. A better option that is the same price, better quality ice and a much safer experience would be Oakton Ice in Park Ridge. It's worth the extra mile honestly.

I am writing this review after multiple deeply disturbing experiences at Glacier Ice Arena…read moreinvolving staff conduct, serious safety concerns, and a complete lack of accessibility. What happened here affected my children emotionally and physically, and I do not believe this facility is safe for kids. On my very first visit, I was alone with my four children (ages 8, 6, 4, and 4 months). I thanked one of the coaches for helping me and mentioned it had been a hectic morning. Her response, said directly in front of my children, was: "It's your fault you had so many kids." My children later asked why an adult would say that. I was heartbroken. This comment was cruel, unprofessional, and emotionally harmful. On another day, my 4-year-old daughter attended Tot 1--only her second skating class ever. She was fully dressed and nervous about getting on the ice. I calmly told that same coach that my daughter was nervous about getting on the ice, who replied coldly in front of my child, "That's your problem," and walked past us. No one who works with young children should ever speak that way. During that same class, when my daughter finally got on the ice, she fell and could not stand back up. She was left sitting on the ice for over 8 minutes without assistance, repeatedly trying to stand and failing. No instructor helped her. At the time, I was nursing my 4-month-old baby with a broken arm in a cast and felt helpless. My daughter came to me in tears, saying that no one would help her. That broke my heart. My daughter thrives with her ballet and tennis coaches and is normally confident and happy. I deeply regret placing her in an environment where she was treated so poorly--both verbally and physically. Another incident involved the front desk staff. I was sternly told to move my stroller even though it was not blocking the doorway. I was helping my three children put on skates while my baby cried in the stroller, and I had a broken dominant arm. There was zero compassion or understanding. Glacier Ice Arena is also not stroller- or disability-friendly. There are no ramps, no elevators, and only one handicap push-button on a front door. Navigating the facility with young children, a stroller, or mobility limitations is difficult and unsafe. Another concerning experience involved food quality and staff behavior at the concession stand. I purchased popcorn for my children, and they immediately said it tasted old and stale. When I brought this up, the lady working at the popcorn concession stand was extremely rude and condescending toward me. I am attaching a photo of her below. Whether you're reading this review on Yelp, Google, TripAdvisor, or elsewhere, I encourage you to click on my name and review my history. I do not write negative reviews lightly. Over several years, my reviews have all been five-star reviews. However, I have never been treated as poorly as I was here. There appears to be a troubling culture of disrespect from multiple staff members. I echo what many other reviewers have said: the staff is shockingly rude. Beyond rudeness, the behavior I witnessed was emotionally damaging, physically unsafe, and unacceptable. If you have other options, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere, such as Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion (Buffalo Grove), Northbrook Sports Center Ice Arena (Northbrook), North Shore Ice Arena (Northbrook), Centennial Ice Arena (Highland Park), Hot Shot Ice Arena (Lake Bluff), Top Shelf Ice Arena (Gurnee), Glenview Ice Center (Glenview), and others.
