My friend treated me to a haunted house this year and as belated birthday gift. The tickets are $25 per person or you can pay extra to skip the lines but on the night we went, the line wasn't that bad, and we weren't in a rush, and $25 per person is quite enough to pay, if you ask me. I was dressed for cold outdoor temps thinking it was going to be a wait outside before entering the haunted house but they have it set up very nicely where you go through a metal detector check point before purchasing your tickets from the box office and heading up a ramp to the main level and waiting area. There are some concessions if you want to grab a snack before entering the haunted house. The waiting area is decorated all spooky and there are even characters waiting in line with you to keep you entertained all the way to the entrance. They send you through in groups of about 6 people. We were paired with 4 other people and entered the Asylum Xperiment after about a 25 to 30 minute wait. The first area you enter has some television screens where some characters run through the rules of the haunted house. No foul language, no touching the characters (they will not touch you, do not touch them!), no smoking, that kind of stuff. I would estimate we walked through all 3 areas in about a 30 minute time period; that seemed important to people, so I wanted to share that detail. There was a holiday theme to start off the adventure and creepy characters throughout all 3 houses. The make-up on these characters was excellent. Each room was filled with large amounts of décor and every room was creepy creepy down to the core. There was so much detail and they really did a great job with décor and scaring us. There was a short period of time where you walked through a completely pitch dark area and are forced to feel your way through almost a maze type set up. It was creepy because you didn't know what was next. At one point I grabbed on to some guy in front of me and let him lead us through because the darkness was quite confusing. The spinning tunnels were AWESOME! The strobe light/jail area was crazy! I will definitely will visit again next year. The only issue is my hubby doesn't do haunted houses, so I'll have to find another victim next Fall! read more

My girlfriends and I went here this evening (10/30) since we've snoozed a bit on Halloween this year. I think Asylum definitely made up for our lack of scares. We were a bit skeptical at first, to be honest. Would it be crowded because it's the night before Halloween? Would it be lame and empty because it was raining all evening? Would the 30 minute drive be worth it? Would $25 be worth it? To our delight, everything was in our favor. We checked their Facebook page before heading out and found a $4 off coupon, score! The rain out by O'hare was far less intimidating than in the city. The drive was very straightforward and no where near as daunting as we imagined, as they had clear (and huge) signs posted once we were closeby. Parking was a breeze. And free! Once we purchased our tickets and headed upstairs, we were a bit confused however. There were props and actors all about. Was this the beginning of the haunted house already? Nope, it was just the line! But that was not at all a bad thing. There was so much detail and interaction and we hadn't even started! Towards the front of the line, you even get to be part of the scare. How cool! We only waited about 15 minutes and off we went on our long and detailed adventure. There were so many rooms and tons of decorations! Different themes for every section and all so intricately adorned. While it was full of objects, some rooms were just a bit too spacious. I like to be grouped in, the scares feel a little more intimate that way. There were times when nothing really happened. No pop outs or characters. Maybe it was because at times groups were not timed properly and be some bunching at points. But I loved all the effects like the strobe lighting and the spinning tunnels. My favorite part was after the elevator ride in Subterranean. Pitch black and spooky! For $21, it was an excellent night out! read more

2.5 stars. I'm an haunted house fanatic--every year I try to go to 6-8 haunted houses and I try to go to a few new ones each year as well. This year Asylum Xperiment was one of the new ones I tried thanks to a Groupon deal. The deal was $40 for 2 VIP tickets to this house (VIP meaning we didn't have to wait in line). I will say that I went on opening night around 10pm, so maybe the fact that it was opening night contributed to some of the lack-of-quality issues that I have with this place. Asylum Xperiment offers 3 "houses" but it's more like 2 houses, and one pitch black cluster you-know-what in between them. House Quality: I liked the first two rooms of the house. I thought they were well done, had great actors, and set the stage for a good, high-quality house. However, this high-quality was intermittent at best. There were a lot of long, dark hallways with no scares and tons of typical Halloween props that you could find anywhere. Some rooms were really well done, but on the whole, the quality was average at best. I don't remember ever feeling legitimately scared in the house, though I did jump at a particularly loud noise, which I'm pretty sure also left me partially deaf. And by the way, I'm sick of haunted houses calling a walk through a 10 minute maze of pitch blackness a "house." It's not. It's a hot mess, guests hate it, and it's a cheap way to lengthen time inside a house. Please do better. Actors: Some actors were great. Most were not. I noticed that the majority of actors were highschool aged kids who made half-hearted attempts to scare guests (walking up to someone's face and going "Boo!" doesn't work like it used to...sorry). Advertisements boast that there are over 100 actors in the house, but I'd say there's maybe 50, 60 if I'm being generous. There were way too many parts of the house that had no actors, especially in prime places for scares. Value: Even with a Groupon, I still feel like this house was not worth what I paid. $40 got me two VIP tickets, but I didn't even need the VIP pass since it wasn't very crowded. I've paid less for more at better houses. I don't know what full price is for a single ticket, but I wouldn't pay it. And I definitely wouldn't pay extra for VIP since this place doesn't seem like it gets very crowded. Overall: It's unlikely that I'll go back to this house. I left with nothing that stood out in my mind as "great" or "interesting" or "holy crap that was crazy." The house was fine, but that's about it. I think it's overpriced, lacking in cohesion, and doesn't live up to its advertisements. This house is ideal for highschool kids, not adults. read more

The best part was the smoke filled soccer field and I thought there were going to be zombies in it. Then someone told me to get off the field and back in line. Then we waited 45 minutes in line, after they'd already sold us the tickets of course. The nightmare starts here... spoooooooooky. So many people. Stupid stupid people. and there's dudes walking around in bad makeup telling you to smell their fingers because they've been fingering your mom. Actually, that part was kind of funny. Also, there's a room where you walk across a spinning bridge and you feel like you're in The Nightmare Before Alice In WonderMatrix. If you want a tip, sneak around the entire line to the bar on the second floor. It looks like the shining but is actually pretty lovely. read more

Absolutely awesome!! Sets and characters/actors were so intricate and were right on time with scaring you. Never ran into another group. Its a long wait to get in but its indoors, heated, with a bar, snacks, free monster, shows and everything to keep you occupied during your wait. I am so glad that Chicago finally has an amazing haunted house that I can go back to each year. read more

Best $20 you can spend on a great haunted house. We came last year and thought it was really good, but now its awesome! There are 2 levels of fun and as soon as you step out of the car in their FREE parking lot, your experience begins. There are actors in line with awesome makeup, masks, and always in character. Inside the 45,000 sq ft complex are numerous rooms with lots of diversity to cover each thing you're afraid of (for me it was someone crawling towards me in the zombie apocolypse level). On the way out, one character followed a group of kids that wanted him to scare their mom whom was waiting in the car... needless to say she locked the door :) I loved that they were playing along and really getting everyone into the Halloween spirit. I've already been to 3 haunted houses this year and this one is tough to beat. Will definitely come back next year! read more

This is a solid haunt. I've been now in 2010 and 2011. They have some really entertaining talent as you wait in line. The line did move a little slow and if you don't like waiting it's probably worth the extra $15, but I find it adds to the experience when you wait and get some initial spooks while in line. We waited about 45 minutes on Sunday Oct. 9th. The line wasn't even that long, but they take their time getting you in which is a good thing so you don't run into any other parties ahead of you. I won't offer up any spoilers, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk-thru and I'm a firm believer that it should cost about $1 per minute in the house so $20 is a good overall value. If you went to 2010 you'd find about 2/3 to be similar, but still enjoyable. I rated an 8/10. I am still looking for a really heart-racing house and have yet to go to Stateville which I hear is top notch. I just haven't brought myself to make the drive all the way down. I think I'm gonna give Fear City a whirl this season and maybe Eleventh Hour. I don't think you will be disappointed in this haunt. Especially if it's your first time going. I think the 5.6/10 listed in unfair and I'd like to know who crapped on it to keep it so low. Possibly competing houses. I can promise that I am a completely un-bias customer. read more

Everything about this Haunted House adds to the overall pleasure of the experience! It starts with free, ample, same-lot parking, then there is energizing in-line entertainment, coupled with fast-moving lines, and finally a decently long, very creepy, well-paced walk-through. There is nothing cheap about this haunt. It all looks meticulously well put-together and has an originality that makes it worth coming back year after year just to see how its changed. Every room tells a different twisted tale and the actors really seem to enjoy making you squirm. Asylums' staff members are pleasant and accommodating and the general atmospheric feel is very welcoming. Thanks Asylum Xperience for a sick time. We will for sure be back next year. read more

I honestly have no idea why the low ratings. It wasn't the worst and sure as hell didn't suck. I love haunted houses. We went with a group of 10, VIP groupon. We didn't wait in line forever, we didn't wait at all. But in all fairness we did go on Thursday & early. The sets we great, each one different and had great attention to detail. I was entertained by the sights, sounds, effects and how the actors stay in character the whole time. No Spoilers! I felt like it was a little short, I felt it ended so abruptly. I wish ended with us going into the lounge bar so we can have a couple of drinks and talk about our favorite part. read more

My very first haunted house.. EVER!!! I had no idea what to expect, if it was indoors or outdoors, if it'd be cheesy and boring, or if I'd get scared. From the minute you walk in there are ghouls and zombies harassing you. hahaha. Upstairs is a bar, so you can drink your worries away before the big scare. Me and the girls went up for a quick drink before heading in. The VIP tickets are worth it because you cut the long lines. You go through it and it's like a guided pathway and maze. Throughout there are some very frightening props, machines, and noises, as well as people to jump or crawl at you. My heart was racing the whole time... however, the lights and at times lack of any light at all makes me worry that without a group of people to hang on to, you might get lost or hurt... I hope they have nightvision... I had to literally sit and let my heart settle before walking out to go home. If the Asylum is this scary... I'm not sure what to expect for the Statesville Prison, which I'm doing next weekend. For the price of VIP here, I think I got the money's worth. Statesville was a groupon, so we'll see. This is definitely not for the weak-hearted, someone might really get a heart attack or seizure... be warned!!!! Make sure you don't take your lighters, flashlights in... they will seize it or throw it away. Glad they have security... It took about an hour to get through it all. You might want to have some water on hand afterwards. read more

I love haunted houses and enjoy visiting multiple each year. I was really excited for this one especially since it was "Rated #1 Haunted House in Illinois for 2012". I was totally disappointed and bummed out that it sucked so bad! They send way too many people in at one time, it was not dark for most of the tour and just not scary at all. I bought a Groupon for 2 VIP tickets for $40 and it was not worth it! VIP line sucked, they did not do it right. All-in-All I do not recommend this haunted house. Lame and boring. Boooo read more

I've been looking for a good haunted house for years and I found one !!!!!! This haunted house had amazing scenes and the actors had really good timing ! my group I was with were very scared and I can't even think of how long it would take to put something like this together . Let me start by saying I'm not some sort of haunted house snob. I've only been to about five over the last couple years. This one was by far the worst I've ever been to. I'm not sure how this was voted #1 haunted house in 2012. Who ever does the ratings must jump with fear every time they hear their text message reminder go off. Don't mind the parking thing. Parking is free at every haunted house I've been to. First off I bought a groupon for the VIP which you can only use on Thursdays and Sundays. Didn't notice that until I already bought it. My fault. The line took forever even w/ the VIP. They send too many people through at once and if you're not first you're going to miserable. We happened to be first but caught up with the group in front of us in no time and the rest of the time sucked. Not like it was great to begin with though. With the exception of one part, it is much too light in there. Their scare timing is awful. The people that are dressed up in there think invading your personal space is scary. Well it's not, it's annoying and they can keep their halitosis to themselves. I can go on and on about how terrible it was and I hope you disregard any good rating that this placed received since it was probably written by an employee or something. Save your money and go somewhere else unless you a giggly high school girl. Then you might like this one. read more

Don't believe all of the negative reviews. More then likely competitors trying to cut down the best haunt in the area. From what seemed like hundreds of actors throughout the houses, as well as Hollywood like set designs, by far the best haunt in the area. You can tell these operators put the time and the effort into making this not only scary, but detailed set designs. If you want a cheap, low budget haunt, go else where. If you want a quality haunt, check out the asylum. Price $25, we'll worth the admission. Indoor waiting area as well as plenty of free parking. I've been coming to AX since they opened in 2010 and have witnessed the progression from a good sized haunt to the mammoth beast that it has become today, and it continues to be as close to a Hollywood movie set with every transformation than any other haunt out there. Even the hallways and transition passages are detailed and the new subterranean haunt has a good creepiness to it. I found that it provides a good perspective change and taps into different fears and emotions (from the opening Holiday Horror House, to the ending apocalyptic sets). It really does feel like you're on a movie set, or in the real world. It's THAT real. The admission at AX seems to be a fair value for the magnitude and quality of the place (my group was in the haunt for almost an hour), and with Groupon and other promos out there, you are still getting two tickets for $20/each, which are VIP tickets! It's worth shelling out the extra cash if you don't like waiting in long lines, even if you show up at the door and pay full price. But even the regular line is fun. They have characters interacting with you and cool stuff to look at all the way through. And it's inside (always a plus when it's raining or cold like it has been this year). I thought the acting was pretty solid overall and to me it seemed as if most actors were a bit older than just high school with many seeming to be quite mature and experienced. There seemed to be a ton of actors spread out over the entire place without too many times where you left alone. I wouldn't say AX is the scariest haunt out there, but it gets the adrenaline flowing and has an edginess built into the design and placement of live actors. Like I said, it taps into a bunch of different fears. Some will resonate more with you, while others may leave you flat. That's the way fears work! So, I dug that. I have to give big props to the makeup artists and costume designers in this haunt as they are fantastic, adding to the consistent movie set quality throughout the entire show. Some of the props and special effects were pretty amazing as well, unusual and unique. Everything has a hand-made feel about it as if it were produced by dedicated artists and craftsmen. The other thing I found impressive was the lighting which really sets the mood from one scene to the next. It seemed expertly designed and well thought out, definitely adding a sense of professional quality to the show. The music too in some parts really added to that "all hell is about to break lose" feeling. Overall, I highly recommend the Asylum Xperiment in terms of creativity and visual design. It reminds me of a Universal Studios tour combined with the experience of being in an actual horror movie. The combined feeling for me was exhilarating and memorable, definitely worth checking out this year. read more

We went to Asylum Xperiment, the haunted house in Villa Park, two nights ago and couldn't have been more thrilled with our experience! When we were first parking, we saw a man with a chainsaw chasing a girl out of the expo center, she was running away and screaming, and we knew we were in for a good time! It took us quite a while to get through both parts of this haunted house. First was the blackout maze, which was pretty fun, a bit shorter than the other part, but still very scary. Not great for anyone who is scared of the dark muahahahaha. The second part was extremely well done. The actors were great, very scary (the contortionist girl and the man ripping the girl's spine out OMG), and the props were very cool (the python jumping out of the human body and the Frankenstein monster stick out in my mind). We had a great time! This is also great for groups of people, as they send you in together and you don't encounter other groups throughout the houses, which I loved. Definitely worth the $20. Line took forever. They send 10 people in at a time. Which is ridiculous, so you'd think. But its not even a haunted house. Its completely lit up and no scares. Just a bunch of actors walking around inside talking. This is absolutely the worst haunted house I have ever been to. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

OMG! I just went to Asylum Xperiment last night and it was awesome! The characters they have walking around scaring people while you're waiting in line are great! They're so great three girls that were walking up the ramp to stand in line were chased by one of the characters and ran back down the ramp and out the door crying!!! Lol! The $25 you spend is definitely worth it! I HIGHLY recommend everyone to go to this haunted house. I would even have to say that I like Asylum Xperiment way more than I like Statesville. Make sure you try this one out! read more

More laughs than scares. Free parking was good and line entertainment was fun...the haunted house itself didn't have me jumping very much. You know when you see 7 year olds in line that it can't be too scary. Not worth $25 read more

I have been to plenty of HH ...Im a native Chicago guy 45 ,,I remember Hadeys at the Odeum ..Way back when ...This Asylum X Rocks far and above Hades..Yah Yah I liked the carnival too but this haunt is amazing ..detailed to the heavens and actors are Hell sent..Very unique concepts animations and make up ..Someone told me the same guy that did Asylum Experience in Berwyn 10+ years ago .,also amazing ,is the same as doin this one ..I can tell the feel and details seem like his style ..Anyway ..Great Xperience there ..I am a fan for life Luv a good Haunt ..This one is not good its Astounding !!! read more
