We had a nice room with bathroom ensuite. My friend and I were not able to stay for breakfast but they had a nicely appointed kitchen and island seating area, and other rooms where you could dine. Despite all rooms being filled with antiques, the house had a comfy feel to it. I really appreciated the ability to get into NYC easily and cheaply from this property . The NJ Transit station is about five minutes away (Maplewood Station). You can buy your tickets at a kiosk right at the station. In June of 2024, a round trip ticket into NYC was $15 and it's a 40 minute ride each way. Look at njtransit.com for train schedules - -generally a train every hour. You are dropped off right at Penn Station. When you are leaving NYC and going back to NJ , enter Penn Station from the corner of 7th Ave and 31st Street -- there is a NJ Transit entrance and you will see stairs or escalators and can get downstairs to access fare Kiosks as well as the tracks. (If you enter from other entrances at Penn Stations, it's a bit challenging to figure out how to get downstairs for the NJ Transit tracks)

The attached bathroom was huge and had everything we needed. Erika took great care of us and cooked an amazing breakfast. Very friendly, relaxed and welcoming. We definitely will be back and have already recommended it our relatives who live in the area.

The house itself is a beautiful blend of historic character and a few modern touches--staying in the Allamuchy Room felt like a true retreat. It was cozy, warm, and had everything we could possibly need for a winter getaway. The hospitality from Ricardo and Don is world-class. They went above and beyond by securing us a dinner reservation at a local restaurant where, thanks to their connection, we were treated like royalty! They even provided us with a custom photo taken in the parlor room of the house--a beautiful, personal memento that we will truly treasure. We also loved the 'snack room'--it was so well-stocked with coffee, tea, sweets, and chips, which was perfect for a cold evening. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, and meeting their dog, Takoda, was a highlight--he is such a sweet, gentle giant. Ricardo and Don have thought of every detail to make their guests feel at home. If you're looking for a personal touch in a stunning historic setting, this is it. We can't wait to return!

The location was extremely convenient with easy access to all the major highways including Rt. 280, the Garden State Parkway, and the New Jersey Turnpike. There's also plenty nearby for shopping and dining. Just one block away is a strip mall with Burlington, Target, Starbucks, and Whole Foods. A little further up the road you'll find an AMC Theater, ShopRite, Petco, and even more stores and restaurants. David made a very positive impression on us during our stay. He was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful whenever we needed assistance. I was already a little on edge after sitting on the tarmac at LaGuardia for 8 hours and then driving 12 hours to New Jersey, so his kindness and professionalism were greatly appreciated. Our room was spectacular! It was very large and equipped with a full kitchen that included a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and large stove. The room also came stocked with plates, utensils, pots, and pans. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. There was a full-sized bathroom with an outside vanity area, two closets, a folded cot, a dining table with chairs, and a comfortable sofa for relaxing and watching television. The complimentary morning breakfast was outstanding with a great variety of hot cooked foods, breads, muffins, fresh fruit, cereals, and more. The parking lot was also plentiful, well-lit, and felt very safe. Overall, this was an excellent stay and we would absolutely return when visiting the area again. 5/5 Price 5/5 Comfort & Decor 5/5 Staff 5/5 Parking 5/5 Convenient location

REVIEW AS EVENT SPACE ONLY (SECRET TEA ROOM):…read more I attended a baby shower held at the DeBary Inn in Summit last weekend. This was my first time inside the building, which was built circa 1880, and also at a Cream Tea. It was a lovely experience! Secret Tea Room is a pop-up company that creates classic English tea party experiences. They host events at four locations - DeBary Inn and Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit), Morven Museum and Gardens (Princeton), and Van Vleck Gardens (Montclair). Great attention to details! Everyone loved the table settings and chinaware. The loose leaf teas were wonderful; that day, we had an apple cider, Ceylon, and green tea. Then came out the tiers. Oh, the scones! The scones are baked on premise, so they were fresh and delicious. At one point, the hosts also walked around table to table with fresh scones from the oven. It was so nice. I overheard a guest from another table joke, "Oh, you can leave the tray of 17 right here for us please. Thank you!" lol Because it's December, the DeBary Inn was decorated for the holidays with a lighted tree. Many guests took selfies in the living room/greeting area. It was a cute venue and party concept for a baby shower!

Another guest -- whose room was actually inside the pantry space -- confronted my company late at night for making coffee, claiming we were being "too loud." While I understand the challenges of shared spaces, this setup should be clearly disclosed at booking, especially if it falls under a "run of the house" rate. Guests deserve to know they may be placed next to, or even within, an active pantry area with unavoidable noise and foot traffic. What made the situation worse was the complete absence of staff during evening hours. With no concierge or on‑site support, there was no way to report the incident, request assistance, or ensure our safety when faced with a potentially volatile guest. Being left to manage the confrontation alone was unacceptable and felt unsafe. What made the situation worse was the complete absence of staff during evening hours. " too quaint and quiet" that normal dynamics in a hotel establishment become an issue all of a sudden.
