I had the gyro entrée with double salad as my side. Ummm, the portions were small but I'm ok with that as long as the flavor is exceptional. My lettuce was wilted and translucent. It didnt seem fresh by any means. The service was decent and the restaurant was clean. I'm kind of disappointed because Ive been looking for a good Greek restaurant since moving to DFW. Update: It has been 24 hrs and I have been extremely sick. Yesterday prior to eating dinner at this restaurant, I had popcorn at the movies down the street. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place was a huge disappointment from start to finish. The food had absolutely no flavor, dry, cheap, freeze, and completely unappetizing. The meat was bland, the rice tasted like it came out of a box, and the vegetables were soggy and overcooked. You can tell corners are being cut everywhere. When we first walked in, the smell in the restaurant was terrible (that should have been my first red flag). While waiting for the food, I actually had to step outside because the smell inside was awful -- like old water mixed with cheap cleaning chemicals. It gave me a headache just sitting there. Went here a while ago with a friend and this is what we ordered: Chicken Gyro, Grecian Chicken, and for dessert, got Galaktoboureko. My friend ordered the chicken gyro and she liked it overall, but said that it tasted a little dry. She would have liked a sauce or something to go with it. She loved the fries and said that it tasted great with salt and pepper. The chicken dish I ordered comes with chicken breast, rice, lemon sauce, and pita bread. It was so flavorful and such a filling meal. I've never had Galaktoboureko before, and I'm so mad it took me this long to try it. They make it with layers of phyllo, filled with custard and topped with their syrup. It was so yummy and I can't wait to have it again! Stopped here on Wednesday. Ordered a lamb Gyro with fries and a salad. The place was empty except for the 2 Hispanic ladies (employees) who were sitting near the register eating. The owner came out and spoke to me while my order was being prepared. I took my food and left. Got to the car, opened the Gyro, the fries were good, fresh from the fryer and well seasoned but the Gyro was DRY AND COLD. My salad had a LONG HAIR in it. Meat dolmas cooked perfect and the calamari...wow...soft and perfect. The young lady was incredible as a waiter and host. Top notch Greek food. Looks like a cafeteria when you walk in, but the food is beautiful. Wow. Nasiba, the server was above nice and so very attentive. I dropped my knife, and within seconds, she brought a new set without me even asking. She sees everything and really cares about this business. First of all, the food was amazing! I started with pita and hummus, ate the chicken lemonado, and had a Greek Coffee. I completely cleaned my plate and ordered dessert - highly recommend getting the baklava with a scoop of ice cream. Additionally, the service and ambiance were superb. Friendly atmosphere. The owner even came to check in on us and engaged in some friendly chatter. He even shared some cooking tips with us. I thought about Chef Ramsey before writing this review. He said some people don't complain they just don't come back. Maybe the food quality is suffering because the business is struggling. Whatever the reason I just don't want to drag this place but my food was sad and extremely overpriced. $24 for a gyros that was missing the sauce and lettuce. The tomatoes were old. The baklava was old and falling apart. And the custard from that one dessert also was aged and curdled. To the owner Emmanuel. Well you should let your cashier know because she said specifically that "it is only for the Gyro is that alright?" And your desserts were $6 I don't have to make anything up. However, I know food and I know flavor so trust me when I say they have a great flavor palette in that kitchen! Everything we tasted down to the wine was amazing! Oh wow! I wanted so desperately to love this place. My order gyro had no tzatziki and the veggies saw better day. The soup was inedible and the appetizer burnt. This meal came to 42 bucks. None of it tasted good. The waitstaff meh. The place itself clean. But hardly surprising since there were no patrons there. Edit to owners response: 1. It was a to go order placed after an incredibly long day, I had no idea it'd end up in the trash bin. 2. I called your store and it just rang and rang- it seemed that your staff isn't too keen to answer your phone. 3-your response again shows you are incapable of seeing what is wrong here. Your food is terrible and your staff don't care. This pun is intended-apparently you need to stop resting on your laurels. Your restaurant is producing inedible food and your staff meh-they show up and convert oxygen into carbon dioxide. but it was pretty clear they'd rather be elsewhere. Atheneos is our first choice restaurant in Mesquite for dine-in and takeout. Mediterranean cuisine is pretty much our family's taste preference. And Atheneos is hands down the local source for authentic Greek tastes and textures The souvlakis are "to die for"--both the lamb and the chicken--with rice, seasonal vegetables, or fries. I order them with the tangy Greek salad. And the gyros are fabulous as well (a favorite of my youngest son). For appetizer I am a fool for the Atheneos calamari. Most often I order another for desert. It's just TOO TASTY! Another must-try if you like wine with your meal: KOURTAKI Retsina. It's kind of indescribable in common parlance of wine (which favors western European and American varietals). Greek wine is different. It's indispensable for the Greek food and wine experience. Try a glass of it with your meal - - then order a bottle. I'm sipping a glass of it right now. Without food. I just have come to like it. And the atmosphere of Atheneos could hardly be more inviting and comfortable. Emmanuel (the owner) is pretty much always there, and he will come to your table to ask you about your experience. I have never experienced such a gracious restaurant host-- nor a more interesting one. I count myself fortunate to have Atheneos in our community. Atheneos has become a new favorite in our line up of local restaurants. The restaurant atmosphere was wonderful and cozy with windows lining almost every wall allowing sunlight to brighten up the space and authentic pictures and art bringing life to the restaurant. When I was browsing the menu I was genuinely surprised at all the authentic and amazing dishes they had to offer such as Moussaka, Avgolemono, and much more. When asking the waiter what he recommended as a appetizer, he ended up recommending Saganaki (a Romano cheese dish). We were a bit hesitant at first but decided to trust him and I'm so glad we did! The waiter brought the Saganaki on a cart and performed a wonderful show at the table. It was flaming cheese and was so fun to watch, we even got to yell Opa when the cheese was set ablaze. I ended up ordering the chicken gyro with rice, the portion sizes are amazing, so amazing I brought it home to eat for dinner. Overall the service, atmosphere and recipes are to die for. We will be telling everyone we know about this place and I can't wait to schedule another trip back to explore the menu. read more

My wife and I recently moved into the area. While searching for furnishing options for our new home, we decided to find a place to grab something to eat. One Yelp search brought up Atheneos. Since we enjoy Greek cuisine very much, we immediately stopped by. And we are delighted that we did. We ordered the Gyros, which were huge and exquisite. We will be regulars here if the rest of the menu is as good. I only have one bit of advice. Businesses should only offer Yelp discounts if they are willing to train their staff on how they work. After I checked in on Yelp, I saw a "Free Beverage" offer and asked the server. He had to ask the manager, after which he made a recommendation. I agreed to his suggestion, just to have the manager come over to explain that his recommendation (a fancy coffee) was not included in the offer. It would've been better to give us the coffee and explain that it would be an exception because of the misunderstanding or say that you don't do Yelp as a business. Regardless of this minor hiccup, we loved Atheneos and will be back. read more

There food here is pretty good but this is the second time I've came here and was missing food. The first time we were missing a sandwich. This time we were missing a bakalava and a sandwich (which was partially my fault because I should have triple verified because I told her 4 sandwiches but I should have made sure she rung them all up correctly - she did not). I love baklava. So, on 28 October 2021 I decided to finally stop at Atheneos because I wanted dessert. Well, the cashier was friendly. After completing my purchase I receive my order and once I opened it I wasn't pleased. I addressed my issue. The manager explained to me how baklava is originally made drenched in syrup. I've Never had it made with syrup. The owner gave me Greek history and instructed another lady to cut me another slice of baklava without syrup. Thank you Atheneos for making my day a happy one.
