Watched the phone ring repeatedly, only for someone to pick it up and hang it up without answering -- not a great look. This used to be a consistent, reliable spot. Right now it feels a bit disorganized and in transition (name/ownership changes maybe). Today loved one's and I made a callback to one of our favorite places to eat in Lawrenceville and it just so happens to be in the Sugarloaf Mall. We were greeted by a lovely woman in which we would later find out was the owner. Her name was Maria and the only thing better than her and her husband was our server Cathy. They honestly gave us one of the most hospitable environments that we had ever been in. Not only were we treated to some of the finest Greek coffee and baklava we have ever had, all complimentary of course but the owner even served my 4 year old son a slice of delicious pizza. When I dived into the baklava after being told how special the Greek honey was I literally felt like a bumble bee. The overall vibe is okay. I felt like there was little efforts to embellish the table, to make the plates delightful in relation to prices. Example: the table was covered with paper, no condiments, no lit up candle, flower, ornament, nothing to please the view. The Taste of Greece Plate is HUMONGOUS! This is shareable for 3 or even 4 people if you order salads or appetizers. Hate to say it, but the food is not the same at all. We got the chicken piccata, which was overcooked and the sauce was like a gravy.... And the chicken gyro which is not at all like it used to be. No seasoning on the chicken and instead of the delicious Greek fries they used to have- it was frozen fries. We LOVED this restaurant and went every week for years. Won't be going back sadly. I stopped by our favorite Greek restaurant to place a to go order to find out they were taken over by new management. Well the menu was very similar so I decided to give it a try. Well that was a mistake. The meat tasted very different and the portion was about half of what it used to be for more money. There was NO tzatziki sauce even though the menu said there should have been. The veggies were not good and my husband said his fries were basic. We really miss the homemade potato chips and grilled veggies they used to have. I guess we will have to look for another place. I'm new to the area. I highly recommend this place. My wife and I went to see a movie. We got to the mall about an hour and half before the movie. I saw this place on yelp and decided to give it a try when in town for work. I started with the Htipiti Dip (feta cheese, roasted red peppers, hot peppers, olive oil) with soft Pita Wedges. This was not too hot for my taste but I would caution those with milder palettes. For my entree I went with the Pastitsio (Greek lasagna). One of my favorite Greek dishes that is not always available. Not the best I've had but still very good. I would order again and recommend. For dessert I tried the Baklava Cheesecake. It was a very large serving that could easily be shared. I had imagined a thin baklava crust for the cheesecake. Instead it was a very thick layer of baklava with a layer of cheesecake topped with a bit of pastry crust on top. For me it was too rich and I would choose another option in the future. A wonderful thing about working in a place attached to the mall is easy access to food quickly. My expectations with mall food options is typically fast food, so this was a surprise. I went to lunch with my GM and Managers, and they recommended this spot for a quick bite before the Manager's meeting. It sits on the corner across from the AMC Movie Theater inside Sugarloaf Mills. It is a sit-down restaurant with servers, with options of larger tables and smaller ones. I hadn't had greek in some time so didn't have any set expectations. They bring out a basket of warm bread, along with lots of butter to gobble up before the order. I did enjoy the bread. I also like that they put lime in your water, as opposed to lemons. For my meal, I ordered the Western Omelette with potatoes. The potatoes were herb-roasted with garlic and delicious. The omelette was good, but the spicy topping they brought out with it on the side really gave it a good kick. Our service was slow, though, and I say this mainly because there weren't many people in there and we had to wait longer than expected for our food. Pricing wasn't too bad, around $8-$11 per person. I recommend getting the Penne Me Kota , god it's so good. They are great with substituting or modifying your order without any complaint. It's a small owned business that puts a lot of soul into their food. The servers are always nice and friendly. Erika is always the sweetest! I recommend her. Located right inside the main entrance of Sugarloaf Mills Mall next to the AMC. They have the best gyro's I've ever eaten! Add a few onion slices, a nice sprinkling of crumbled feta, lettuce, tomatoes and of course lots of creamy Tzatziki sauce! It's a huge generous sandwich! If you are not a big eater you may want to split one with a friend! The staff is always friendly and I usually get a friendly oversized long pour of a recommended wine which I love. They are so nice and fun when we go! I've also had the entree Greek salad which I love when I'm in a veggie mood! It's also big and generous. The herbed chicken is very good, nice and moist, almost falls apart and perfectly flavored! My favorite has to be the oxtails though. You can only get them on Friday nights but it's well worth the wait. I could eat two servings and sop up the sauce) jus with the great bread! On the lighter side, they make the best garlic eggplant dip appetizer on Earth! You must try it with warm pita points and a good wine or beer! When I first started dining there, it was on the menu with it's actual name "melitzanosalata". Took me forever to learn to pronounce it properly and then they changed it to "Greek eggplant dip", easier to say and just as tasty. I still love calling it the authentic name (since it took Vince so long to teach it to me)! I have also ordered it by the quart and taken it home!
