My husband and I's go to shop for supplements is typically Athlete's Nutrition. They have a great selection of products and usually have great deals. Unfortunately over the last few months we've been forced to go elsewhere. Maybe coincidentally, but everytime we attempt to visit during normal business hours a sign has been up on the door stating "be back in 20 minutes" and despite waiting on multiple occasions for 20 minutes for someone to come back, the door remained locked so we went elsewhere for business. read more

Out in San Diego for work and I left my pre-workout/protein at home. Went in here based on proximity to my hotel and other Yelp reviews, and had a really great experience. Not only did they give me more than a weeks worth of free samples or pre workout and protein, they took the time to answer a lot of questions (many of them annoying), and gave me lots of great advice. Also went the extra mile to give me the stores contact info and told me to reach out anytime I had questions or needed a second opinion on anything anyone was telling me. Definitely different than a lot of supplement stores--was never pushed to buy anything, or directed to a product they had a lot of and was trying to get rid of. They took the time to ask questions about goals/ what I was trying to achieve, and gave me a lot of great info on what to use. Knowing I wasn't looking to buy anything that day they could have easily brushed me off and sent me on my way. Even though I did not buy anything they have gained a customer from the east coast, as they also said they will ship out to me. First of all, just understand that weight loss is 80% clean eating, knowing when to cheat eat, and portion control. Exercise accelerates the weight loss. That said, supplements supplement and accompany your journey to weight loss. Your guides are these guys. Knowledgeable and they will tell you if they're unsure. They've even tried a lot of the products and will tell you which seem to work and/or which protein powders are tasty. This is how a shop is run. Im not one to write reviews but this place deserves it. I went in to get some more preworkout, and after talking to a gentleman in there, left with said preworkout and 8 different sampler packets for free. This place is light years ahead of GNC in my opinion. I had no idea what I was doing when I walked into this store. I had been working out like crazy and needed something to help my muscles recover a little faster. Their products are cheaper than most places that I've been to. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and is able to offer alternative products based on what your preferences are. My goto spot for picking up protein powder. I love a tasty protein powder. The owner turned me on to UMP by Beverly international. Absolutely the best tasting stuff out there but as a newbie to drinking protein I found the $35 it cost me, somewhat on the high side. (Little did I know its much more expensive elsewhere!!) When I ran out, I cheated and went to some other store, and bought on someone else's recommendation and wow what a mistake. The container is still half full and it will probably stay that way until I can pawn it off on someone else. Went back in today to buy more yummy Ump this time Rocky Road (first time I got chocolate) and got some NO xplode while I was at it. Total bill $76.66 which was a great deal. The prices here are extremely competitive and the friendly, not to mention extremely good looking staff, are also extremely helpful. Just headed in on my lunch break, found it on yelp and saw it was the closest thing to my office off Mira Mesa blvd (well, intuit nutrition is closer but they are stupid expensive and although the lady is nice, she is not very knowledgeable). I didn't need help I knew what I was getting, but he still stood there and talked'. Then he gave me a sample of DLB's Onward as I checked out, and educated me on that. Never a bad experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I'm in here every few months to stock back up on whatever we're low on and to load up my husbands care packages whenever he's on deployment. The owner and the staff that I've interacted with are all former military, which I appreciate. I'll make the drive down (or up to the Oceanside location) to support a local veteran owned business. I've brought a few friends into this location that aren't super knowledgeable when it comes to supplementation and the staff has made them feel incredibly comfortable, which I find (unfortunately) is a rare thing in the fitness industry. I would recommend this business to anyone, regardless of fitness level or knowledge. Colin, the owner, has been very nice and helpful the few times I've met him. Where to begin? The store itself isn't lit up like a Christmas tree and stocked with endless shelves of random crap like GNC. The store is basic and simple. Upon walking in, I was greeted by Trey, I believe, who has arms as big as my legs. This guy is huge. So he immediately had my trust. His service was great, and we beyond helpful. I told him the protein I wanted, and he suggested a better quality protein. He also looked up the protein I wanted online and found a comparable product that exceeded expectations. First time I walked in I was impressed. All the supplements had the actual price compared to the MSRP and how much you saved. Collin the store owner is not bias when it comes to the supplement like other store "GNC". The other thing about Athletes Nutrition is that they have a lot of other supplements that you can't find at other stores. They also have a list of his top selling products, you got to try " Beverly international protein".The store had this weird pull up bar with balls on it and another wall climbing device, you got to try it, it's something different.
