Having seen no less than a dozen chiropractors…read morein my life as I have lived in different locations, and my brother being a chiropractor for 12 years, I know what my body needs: Maintenance: once a month, nothing is really hurting too bad, but I want to come in and get re aligned and some type of stretching/muscle relaxer to feel great for the rest of the month! During these visits I am ok with the doc only spending 5-10 minutes with me. Healing: when I DO have an issue (I went to Dr. Andersen for the first time with a lower back pain), I need more help...more stretching, therapy, and manipulations. During these visits I want the doc to spend as much time with me as necessary to fix me. Dr. Andersen delivers on what I need. Most chiropractors seem to have the gadgets and tools, and the knowledge, but what sets Dr. Andersen apart is his willingness to listen and tailor the treatment to what your body needs, not what will get you in and out the door to see the next patient. Do yourself a favor, find a doctor like Dr. Andersen who will treat you individually, effectively, and knowledgeably.

Although I do not need the physical therapy, I felt reassured that there would be some soft tissue work before actual spinal manipulation would occur. I've had it done without soft tissue massage and muscle stretching, and there is no comparison. Hands down, spinal manipulation requires some massage in order for the muscle release to allow the vertebrae to be manipulated back into place. There are different spaces in the clinic dedicated to physical therapy and rehabilitation. Jason was reassuring and meticulous to detail. While stretched out on one of the adjustable exam tables, he was able to feel out the tension points along my spine. After some soft tissue work, he manipulated my mid and upper back into shape. Since my muscles were inflamed from chronic misalignment, he stretched out the neck muscles after the vertebrae were back in place. I was very pleased.

I had to track him down as he no longer was associated with any offices near me. So I called, and explained EXACTLY what I needed to his office representative. We actually went into DETAIL, as I asked can I be measured and the finished product be sent to my house? She ASSURED me this would not be a problem. Go in for appointed, doctor was GREAT, answered questions, did a basic exam. Provided me other information, all while he was extremely rushed by the BIG CARLE BIG MONEY corporation. He explained that the specific service I needed was not offered there, and he did provide me the name of a podiatrist in my area. I should have listened to my wife who though I was nuts to drive that far, but when you get a good mechanic or plumber or DOCTOR, my experience is stick with them. Bill was not small, insurance paid 90%. I got a bill for a little over $100. I opened a dispute with Carle, explained everything, said I would like that amount forgiven since I didn't get the service the phone rep had again, ASSURED me there would be no problem getting. It was placed under review, a fancy way of saying in 30-60 days we will tell you to pound sand. Sure enough about 40 days later I got a call, DENIED. So I paid the bill, you can't fight City Hall, or BIG Business, especially the evil warlords of the Medical conglomerates. But my advice, record ALL interactions on the phone with Carle phone reps, and then get a good lawyer when they bill you and do not deliver agree upon services. Normally I would never advise lawyering up, they are a whole other problem. But just as you should not take a knife to a gunfight, you should not try to stand up to Darth Carle on your own. But I literally drive down from Chicago a couple times a year to have an adjustment because after almost 20 years in Chicago I still haven't found someone as good as Dr. Melby. My take is that his appointments are super short not just to maximize profits but to see as many people as possible - help as many as possible - while still maintaining an incredible work/life balance for his family. Dr. Melby and his staff were kind and incredibly patient with her, as she is typically very timid in a healthcare setting. We decided on a treatment plan after discussing options and my daughter has since completed her treatment plan and will go to appointments on a more "as needed" basis. Over the course of her treatment, my daughter became very comfortable in the office and we have noticed changes in her stability of movement among other things since being adjusted. While my daughter was starting her treatment plan, I decided that I wanted to get evaluated, as well, to see if Dr. Melby could help with chronic pain I suffered with in my neck and back. I am currently still working through the treatment plan Dr. Melby put together for me. However, I have felt like a completely different person since being adjusted. My pain is much more minimal, almost to the point of being completely absent at most times. All of that being said, Dr. Melby and his staff are absolutely amazing and very personable. The office is in a great location, very sanitary and appointments are easy to schedule. I would highly recommend Melby Chiropractic to anyone that may be on the fence about trying chiropractic care.

Between the stretching exercises and spinal adjustments, I really do feel so much better. It was fun to compare the 'before' and 'after' X-rays of my poor neck and see improvement. I'm sure as long as I keep sewing (which will be for as long as I remain alive), I'll never fully reverse the strange curvature in my spine but having had success in the few months of visiting Dr. Kevin, I am a huge fan and will continue my stretches and adjustments. For real, I will do whatever it takes to keep sewing, pain free, for as long as possible.
