This is my email to Atlanta: Hi Samantha, I have attached a photo of my zoysia sod that was installed last fall. As you can see it is overgrown with fescue and violets - not what I was expecting. I remember discussing my concern about violet roots to the person that gave the original estimate, which is why 2 additional yards of soil were included in the estimate. Then, when the ground was being prepared for installation I spoke with the "foreman" about making sure that the soil was dug deep enough to remove any remaining roots of violets, etc. He assured me it would be, but then ended up getting only a single yard of soil. So now I have a lawn that is inundated with fescue (I don't know if that was mixed in with the Zoysia?) and of course violets. The picture is of the worst area of the yard, but violets are coming up in the rest of the zoysia installed and will only get worse. Can you let me know what Atlanta sod might do to correct this? From Atlanta Sod: Unfortunately, Atlanta Sod never offers any guarantees as far as weeds are concerned. We can scrape them out, but nature will be nature, and the only sure way to kill off weeds is with chemicals. I would recommend contracting with a lawn care company like Arbornomics to help resolve the violet weed problem. They went on to muse about how the fescue might have gotten in, including from my own yard, the neighbors, etc. and took no responsibility for lack of necessary soil preparation given I had voiced my concern about the violets that had been in my yard. read more

Buyer Beware!! Ordered 9 pallets of Zeon,Zoysia and irrigation installation including 15 sprinkler heads. Installation day came and everything seemed to be fine except only 13 heads were installed and they ran out of sod. I then ordered 2 more pallets because that's what they said I would need. A couple weeks later, the rest of the sod showed up and it looked completely different. I called immediately and was told it is indeed Zeon. I asked to have someone come to look and they said "No". They sent a letter how they have been in business for 20 yrs etc.....gaslighting me. I know the company has been around awhile because I had them do another part of my yard 7-8 years ago with NO problems. I found out they have changed owners about 5 years ago!! I received an email saying if I still think there is a problem within 30 days to reach out. Since there aren't enough sprinkler heads, some sod doesn't get watered. It's been a month of rooting, some of the sod is clearly Bermuda and NOT Zeon. I sent pictures showing the sod growth from the 2 different sods in the yard including the seed pods growing indicating Bermuda....I have confirmed this with many people including Horticulturalists. It's been 2 weeks without any response. I am looking for a new company to come and replace this dreaded Bermuda and a sprinkler company to add the extra sprinkler heads. read more

There is a lack of proffesionalism with ASC... They are not experts on installing sod...they basically installed sod on an unprepared yard... looks good the first few weeks...now our yard looks pretty bad, covered with crabgrass... They recommend us to use Arbonomics, Arbonomics told us it will take a while to get rid of the crabgrass. Then I called back ASC back, they told me to use another chemical company to treat the crabgrass and to fire Arbonomics that they referred and recommend to us... This is my first yelp review. I am very disappointed by the recent irrigation system installation and partial sod installation. After leaving our house, they left our backyard (from the new irrigation line) and driveway in disarray. Upon discussing this with the Company , we learned that the ripped up yard is just part of the deal and we could pay for sod to cover up the clay. An upsell tactic Which was never discussed during the quote Process. The Company installed a sprinkler head within an inch of a highly traveled road without a curb or sidewalk to protect the head from traffic. The Company was resolute that this was the correct location- I guess they are counting on continuous business from us to repair this every month going forward from cars driving over it. Of course, another upsell opportunity to move it. We were planning on asking Atlanta Sod to assist us with annual mulch work going forward, but the lack of reasonable customer service in this matter leads us to give this business to another group. oh well read more

Our community located in Dunwoody GA and developed by Bill Grant Homes recently purchased 11 pallets of turf sod from Atlanta Sod Company. After we had paid the bill, we called ASC to report that 15 heads had been left covered up by their installation team. When they ignored our complaint, we had no choice but to pay an independent irrigation contractor to remediate the problem in order to keep the sod alive. We are very disappointed in their lack of response when we had contracted that the heads would pop up to water the grass before they left. We would NOT recommend this company for customer satisfaction reasons. We are use to dealing with reputable providers that stand behind their services. Contacted Atlanta Sod Company to provide estimate then purchased and hired to sod backyard. Somewhat disappointed that yard was measured incorrectly and not enough sod ordered to complete the project; we were one pallet short and will need to purchase more to finish. However, Jay and his crew did a great job installing the sod. They worked hard, were very professional and quickly lay what sod was delivered. They did a great job cleaning up when done. Overall we are very happy with their work. It should be noted we were interested in also installing an irrigation system as listed on their website as a service provided. I wish I could give a positive review but I have been really disappointed with the outcome of this project. Everything started off great - it was easy to schedule an appointment to have a sales person come out and check out the job, I received a quote quickly, the price was competitive, and communication was great. The installation went well too, but I started noticing issues with the sod and infiltration of common Bermuda grass within a month or two of install. This is where things started to break down. I contacted ASC and - shocker - was not met with the same level of customer service as I had before. I had diligently followed all instructions they had given me for the grass and even signed up for the fertilizer and weed control service they sugggested. I was told to contact this company to see what they could do about the Bermuda, but unfortunately they couldn't address. I brought this info back to ASC and was given the name of another company who also didn't have any remediation options. At that point I was just frustrated at getting the runaround so wrote an honest review on Angie's List. Almost immediately I received an email and calls from the company saying they wanted to fix this. I was appreciative of the response but a bit upset that it took a negative review to get to this point. The sales manager said he would come out and check out the situation - after he did I was told they could spray / kill the Bermuda and replace free of charge. They did this but the results are terrible. When the person came out to place in the new sod, they didn't level the ground nor did they even replace all of the killed grass. When I asked about this I was told that the grass was 'dormant' (even though it wasn't 'dormant' before it was sprayed). Now the lawn is patchy, uneven, and has many dead spots. The owner of the landscaping service I hire to maintain my lawn even commented on how poorly this job was executed. I've attached a picture to this review so others can see as well. I know this is a family owned business and that negative reviews have consequences, but I think other potential customers should be aware of this issue before they spend their hard-earned money on this service. I also know that the company monitors their reviews carefully - please do not ask me to take this review down. I have given you one chance already to rectify the situation and do not trust you to fix this issue give your 'fix' made the situation worse. Within three weeks you can see the sod all starting to die we hired a lawn care company they recommend it and within six weeks all the sod was dead the only green grass I have at the spending $3400 is the seed I put out because the site was dying. Getting anyone to do anything from Atlanta sod is like pulling someone's teeth without Novocain. Buyer Beware office manager is rude. If any problems arise during your purchase and you complain she will blame it on the customer. Apparently complaints are not allowed. If you leave a review on facebook they will delete it. I am thankfully I ran into problems before the sale was final. My sod was installed in October of 2018. The company that services my lawn as for fertilizing etc. suggested that the yard needs to be re-rolled. Upon contacting Eric and sending couple of pictures to him, he dispatched his crew to re-roll the yard in a matter of couple of days and on top of that he did not charge for this service. On the day of the sod installation, I informed Woody that I knew very little about having sod installed. I had several shade trees that I wanted to keep and knew nothing about the different kinds of sod and which sod would be the best for my lawn. He advised me on the kind of sod that would be best for my landscape and briefly explained why. He explained the installation process and informed me that I could find a video on the company's website that would explain the process as well. He assured me that I would be pleased with the finished product. And I was! The Atlanta Sod crew arrived on time the day scheduled and wasted no time getting started. It was obvious that they were very experienced with installing sod. Great team work was visible immediately! Jay, the crew's supervisor, was very nice and pleasant to talk with. He answered every question I asked him with no hesitation and with confidence. I found him to be very knowledgeable and skillful with sod installation. Somehow I ended up needing an extra pallet of sod. Atlanta Sod Company was willing to fix the issue and it was done in a timely manner. I was very happy and completely satisfied with how the situation was handled. Jay explained to me the follow-up steps that would ensure the sod to successfully take root and left a "Maintenance Instruction" sheet with me. He also told me if I had any questions later to feel free to call and he would be glad to answer them. I can tell you that this company is ALL about making their customers happy. I would recommend the Atlanta Sod Company to my friends and anyone else who was looking for a good sod company. I was very pleased with their work. He was fully responsive and documented the conversation for my records. The crew worked hard, but unfortunately that's about all I can say is positive about this company. We have used them twice over the past two years to sod new lawns, and after a full season both areas of the lawn are completely dead and cannot be saved. We had another lawn company come out and it appears the problem is that Atlanta Sod recommended the wrong type of grass for our lawn - they put down an expensive hybrid in a shady area that didn't get enough sunlight. When I mentioned the problem to this company, their response was: maybe you should cut back the trees to get more sunlight? Instead I would have appreciated them choosing a type of grass that can tolerate the shade! Waste of time and money - I'd look elsewhere for people who know grass better. read more

Thanks to Atlanta Sod Company, my back yard went from dump to hot damn! When I decided to make my yard a non embarrassment, I went to Yelp for reviews and found ASC. Reviews go a long way for me, and I read nothing but stellar reviews, so I emailed the company. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a response within a couple of hours. The foreman went to my house within a couple of days, and emailed me an estimate that afternoon. I waited a few weeks, and then asked them to come BACK to my house. I changed my mind, and wanted to do the backyard instead of the front yard. This posed no problem. ASC came back to my house again, without needing me to be there, and gave me another estimate for the back yard. My new estimate was emailed that afternoon, and we scheduled the job to be completed within 2 weeks. I showed up to my house with an entire team of guys grinding stumps and preparing the garbage clay that Georgia has blessed me with. I discussed how I wanted the tall fescue placed to the foreman, Cole. He was extremely friendly and was able to send me text updates on when the job would be completed. The entire job took around 2 hours, and I was shocked when I saw my yard. My house has never had a yard. Green, lush, perfectly placed sod. Amen! The team was kind enough to hose off any clay left from their work boots on my driveway. They discussed how I needed to care for my sod. They were respectful of me and my home. Per terms & conditions. Atlanta Sod Co. "does not guarantee suitability, survival or performance". Due to large trees on my property, the "shade tolerant" Zeon Zoysia grass was recommended/installed 2016 and died by 2018. The removal of trees was not recommended until after the grass died. Maintenance Company feels bad that I was sold defective grass, and will put down fescue for free. The best Eric Vevang with Atlanta Sod Co. offered was a discount on more grass; however I am required to first remove multiple large oak trees, which is not an option. If my lawn had too much shade, a sod expert should not have installed. read more

I had Atlanta Sod do my side yard, about 950 square feet. They estimated 2 pallets of Bermuda. However, they were about 140 square feet short after they laid two pallets. This was on Friday. I asked the crew leader when they would finish up or if there would be additional cost but he could not definitively answer my questions. I called the office and left a message. Larry the Operations Manager called me back on Monday and arranged to finish the job. They did a good job and the cost was a little less than my other quote. read more

I spent over $10,000.00 for my sod. I had Adam and Keagan both out here and both are no longer with the company. Very disappointed with application, service and sod. Many repairs were done and done poorly, application was in small pieces, not like the rolls they show in their video. I was promised they would be out here in May to replace all bad pieces. [Update 6/27/2016] Sara V, I appreciate that everyone is on top of social media reviews at Atlanta Sod Company and have called me repeatedly to take the review down. However, I am not looking for remediation or a refund by posting this review, I am simply sharing my experience with the community. I hope you understand that I am not interested in having the crew out to correct the issues. To do so would require replacing dead/unhealthy sod (more than 7 pieces), replacing the healthy sod that appears to be something other than Zeon and topdressing to level all of the divots. I just don't have faith that it will be done correctly but I appreciate the offer to do so. [Original Review 6/23/2016] First I want to say that I had high hopes for Atlanta Sod Company, I researched thoroughly, and felt like I had done my due diligence regarding my Zeon Zoysia sod project. I read the reviews and read about their install procedures (til, rake, roll, level low spots, install, and roll) so I felt like I had a good handle on what they were all about. The first red flag should have been that the sod came in from several hundred miles away on a steamy hot day in the evening (after 6:00 PM) for a Saturday install. It came on a flat bed truck, as it all does, but was not covered so it sat out in the Georgia sun, in Atlanta traffic getting burnt and dried out. No telling when it was cut. I was concerned but the install crew said it shouldn't be a problem so I allowed them to install it (hindsight should have been to reject the load). The next red flag came in on install day the next morning. The crew was nice enough but during the install, they left off the step to roll the dirt after it had been tilled before installing the sod (to smooth out high/low spots). So basically they installed over softly tilled/raked dirt. This is a huge problem because the yard is now lumpy and will undoubtedly require some kind of leveling to get it where it should have been on day one. Last but not least, the sod quality is something hard to describe. I think they combined some Jamur Zoysia somehow in certain spots and the consistency from piece to piece was terrible. It looks like I have several different varieties of sod in my back yard. Just to make sure I wasn't being overly critical I went to North Georgia Turf and checked out their sod (no I don't work for them) and what a difference a reputable grower makes. The sod was phenomenal, consistent and best of all, not dead on arrival. The end result is a lumpy yard with dead squares of sod all over which given the price paid for this, is disappointing and frustrating to say the least. I Would not recommend this company primarily due to quality issues with the sod and install best practices which weren't followed. read more

Spring 2017 I hired them to put in St Augustine. They left a mess with mud inside and outside of a screened, detached porch. Sod pieces were thrown and left all over the beds surrounding the lawn. A sprinkler head was covered over by sod. I noticed that some of the sod pieces had two kinds of grass. Keaton assured me that it was just young and mature St Augustine and to wait. Those patches stood out all summer, leaving a polka-dot lawn (photo 1). After many attempts to contact via email and phone, they came out to replace some of the 2-grass patches with nearly dead St Augustine (photo 2), again covering and destroying a sprinkler head. Keaton finally came out, took a sample of a 2-grass patch and sent it in. It is Bermuda and St Augustine. I wrote a Yelp review and the owner, Eric, contacted me. I took down the review after he promised to make things right and to give me a 10% refund. They denied that it was possible to have Bermuda in St. Augustine sod. After many calls, they came in May with only 1 pallet. The crew and I decided to replace most of the front yard and that they would be back. ASC did not return my calls afterwards and the sod died despite watering (photo 3). After many calls and texting, they came again in July to put down more sod and to replace the dead sod. After 3 weeks, Bermuda grass came up on multiple pieces of the St. Augustine sod (photo 4), which I pulled up easily because nothing had rooted yet. The grass is sparse on the sod(photo 5). I still have Bermuda in the original sod as well as many weeds despite pre-emergent and weed control. I asked for a refund. They offered $400, which won't pay for a replacement lawn. Now they say all the St. Augustine sod has Bermuda and that it will be crowded out, which is incorrect. They threatened to say I was lying if I posted a review. Our grass did not even deserve the name of "grass". It was Fescue that, over time, became ugly and embarrassing. Of the 5 estimates I received, this was the best and Eric promised a yard I would be proud-of....and he delivered on that promise. He used a giant batch of sod I had won, leveled the yard which had never been level, and planted the sod, watered it, and cleaned-up. His guys did a wonderful job. When I was leery about it not filling-in fast, he was very patient with me many times! When I wanted some sod replaced, he sent Wonderful Woody to do it!. The lawn is now beautiful. This was done in May, and I now always wait a while to write reviews. I used to do them right away, but then if something went bad, it was too late. Couldn't be happier with the sod and service I received from Atlanta Sod Company. Eric came over and provided an estimate that was cheaper than my other two estimates for 2000 sq ft of zoysia. His team came over with 4 guys and they prepped the soil and had the sod laid in about 4 hours. The lining and trimming was cut perfectly. After about 4 weeks I had a lush green lawn, and when I reached out that there were a couple patches that didn't grow out like the rest of the lawn, he sent his guys out to replace the patches with fresh green ones. Dead sod, sod arrive and say in the sun 1/2 the day, divots and no follow up. My home project consisted of ripping up the existing half Bermuda and replacing it with Zoysia emerald grass. So you don't have to read the whole review; Summary- Setting up the appointment was easy enough. Install team was absolutely awesome. Poor follow up service as I had questions on the lawn and the fact they messed up one of my sprinklers which they said during the quote they would "take care of". Quality of product in my opinion is low - 12 or so sods were dead, some came back, now I have a patchy new lawn. Appointment- Had to go back and forth a couple times where they'd set up an appointment and night before cancelled - hard when you have a job during the week. That being said this is a busy time of year. Quote- Straight forward and they answered all the right stuff - I chose them because they said if they damaged the in-ground sprinkler they'd fix it as they had stuff right there. Install- Absolutely great team, worked hard all day (they had to spread 12 sq yards of top soil as well) Followup- Contacted them about some sods and the fact one of my sprinklers are messed up, haven't heard from them since, been 2 weeks. I had new sod installed about a month and a half ago. I waited to write a review to give it time and see how it did. The day of was pretty smooth (except for the storm that hit right at the end of the day) and Jay did a great job leading the team. He replaced a few sprinkler heads too just to make sure I could water my lawn well. I installed Zoysia and the lawn looks great. When I had my first lawn service since the install, my lawn care company noticed 8-10 squares of Bermuda mixed in with the Zoysia. I called Atlanta Sod and they came out within a few days to replace those sections with no questions. All in all, the service was excellent and I am very pleased with the results after trying to do this on my own for over a year. read more

We could not be more thrilled with our experience! After moving into a home in Brookhave my wife and I knew that one of our top priorities would be making something presentable out of the weed patch that passed for our front lawn, but after a few estimates we were lost. Enter the awesome team from Atlanta Sod Company! Sales Manager Keegan came out early one morning and walked the yard with us, and he went over all the options based on what we had in mind. He put together an exact quote (on the spot!) for a turnkey installation of Zoysia Zeon, and it was by far the best priced package we reviewed. A couple weeks later the crew showed up, prepped the yard, and installed about 2400 sq ft of sod in under 3 hours, and it looks absolutely incredible. You did a backyard install for my next door neighbor in Hampton's Grant this morning. You started your work with heavy machinery @ 7:30 am. We have young families with sleeping babies, retired couples who did their grind long before you started this business and people who don't have to get up and leave the house by 7 am as you assume. The fact that you don't care about how your noise affects others speaks volumes of what kind of business practices you employ. I understand it's hot here in Atlanta but that doesn't give you the right to come into my neighborhood and disrupt my life for a buck. I urge you to be more considerate of others read more

On August 16, 2014, Atlanta Sod installed Zeon Zoysia on my front yard. On that day, the ground was wet and as a result, the lawn, when laid, was 'lumpy'. I contacted Atlanta Sod and I was assured the lawn would smooth out, and if not, Atlanta sod would come back in the spring to level it. They have not responded to my communications to them this Spring, 2015. The yard is so bumpy... it is risky to attempt to run across the yard for fear of turning one's ankle. Atlanta Sod delivered and installed a fresh, high-quality product (Zeon Zoysia--- Approx. 2,700 SqFt front yard) for a very competitive price. The install crew arrived on time, with the supervisors introducing themselves to the homeowner and keeping the homeowner "plugged in" to the process the entire morning of the install. The ground preparation was very thorough and looked immaculate before the sod was laid. The supervisors improved upon the homeowner's design--- adding art to the science, with gentle curves and neatly trimmed edges.
