Sure there's not a lot of frills inside the terminals. But when you had to frequently fly for work you don't really care about that stuff. You really just care about the convenience and logistics. And for that, my experience recently has been fantastic with this airport.

I will say, I do love that you can get off the back of the airplane. It feels a little old-school and makes for some pretty cool photos. For a brief moment, you feel like a celebrity stepping off a private jet. Beyond that, the airport is very small, not particularly clean, and has limited food options. The outdoor baggage claim is inconvenient, and the walk to the rental car area feels much longer than it should. The moving walkways always seem to be out of service, and the elevator has been broken for so long that I'm starting to think it's a permanent exhibit. One thing I still can't get over is the carpet in the bathrooms near the rental car pickup area. Carpet... in an airport restroom. That's certainly a choice. The rental car experience has also been hit or miss, and the drivers in the parking lot sometimes seem to think they're auditioning for Fast & Furious. I've flown through Burbank several times, and while it gets the job done, it's never been my favorite airport experience. Convenient? Sure. Memorable? Also yes--but maybe not for the reasons they intended.

Also, quick side note Terminal B is also Terminal 4. This can create confusion at times if your boarding pass says Terminal B and it does not show on the LAX maps online. Why this is, I do not know, but it's a thing. There are also wide disparities in amenities at certain terminals and gates compared to others. For example, if you happen to find yourself in the vary isolated area of gates 45- 48 in Terminal 4, the only places to grab food are a market or a hotdog vendor, so you may want to venture all the way to the main terminal to grab food. Speaking of grabbing food, no matter where you eat at LAX, be prepared to throw down at least $40 per person. This is at the casual eateries, not even the sit down restaurants. The restroom facilities are fine and are in various stages of improvement, but there could be more restrooms spread throughout to alleviate some of the lines. The car rental situation at LAX is also easy to navigate which is another plus and is very fast. Overall, LAX is pretty good considering how busy it is, but high prices at eateries and pockets of construction make it slightly annoying. It doesn't come close to the calm and elevation of say a Changi or Doha, but it works with what it's got. Terminal 4 is about as close to nice as it gets, but for a Global Alpha City like LA, the airport still has a long way to go to bring it to where is should be.

In California, you wouldn't expect a public space like LAX to feel this extreme when it comes to…read morepricing. The cost of food and drinks here is shockingly high--enough to make you wonder if you accidentally walked into Dodger stadium instead of an airport. Arriving hungry with a family can quickly turn into sticker shock, and you'll find yourself questioning whether your credit limit is going to be enough to cover a simple meal. To put it in perspective, chips and salsa run about $16.85, and even guacamole is an extra $3.00 on top of that. A Monster energy drink that's normally around $3.89 at an ARCO can be nearly $8 here. It's hard not to notice how inflated everything feels. Some may argue airport pricing is always higher, but other airports like SLC or MSP don't seem to take it to this level. Even compared to places like Las Vegas, LAX feels especially aggressive. Unless you have no other option, consider eating before you arrive--or flying first class, where at least the dining experience might feel more reasonable than the concessions at LAX. You'd think organized crime was in charge at this airport but I don't even think the mob would inflate prices this much.

We timed our departure via car from our house with their departure from the Aurora, Oregon airport and made it within 20 minutes of each other (they beat us). We ended up picking them up at the flight school instead of closer to the plane because unlike some other airports no one directed them where to go. The folks at the flight school were very nice and let them stay in the airconditioned waiting area until we got there and then we drove them around to the actual small airport check-in area (which was closer to where the plane was parked and in the 100 degree heat would have been easier/better for my MIL to walk and wait in). Being the protective person I am, this irritated me a bit, but they are used to the lack of communication at these little airports. This airport is in a downtrodden area and is not as maintained as some of the municipal airports we have visited. Bathrooms are outside, but the plane was fine and the price of parking ($5 per day) for the plane couldn't be beat. Since I am no pilot, all I can go by is my FIL's experience and he has had a lot worse. I was glad Kevin was there so he could help pull the plane over to the gas pump and look forward to visiting another small airport again sometime in the future.

It's been a source of controversy for decades! Capping decades of legal battles & protests! One of the oldest in USA! Airport land converts into Park! Meanwhile they shortened the runway to limit jet flights! By the way, this is where Harrison Ford crash landed onto Golf Course instead of a runway! This general aviation airport, naturally long favorite of celebrities & biz heads, had its share of public scrutiny just like many other non commercial airports in California. Like my San Carlos Airport SQL or Palo Alto Airport PAO. Historic significance lays in the fact that famous DC-3 & military aircraft was produced by Douglas Aircraft Co in Santa Monica at the airport before it had moved to Long Beach. Famous tenants like Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise & Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with others, average daily 250 takeoffs & landings, that's a lot of noise! Neighbors in Santa Monica didn't want harmful exhaust, emissions, fueling, lead & carbon, pollution, and noise! At the same time, its use during WWII for military purposes had federal agreements for FAA to allow operations. So various aviation interests contended with the City of Santa Monica over its ownership. They reached the agreement after endless litigation to return the control of the airport land to the city. And at the end of 2028 the city is free to do what they want with 227 acres of airport land! *The one who should care Does she or doesn't So let the beat roll on I'm 'bout to get in the zone I been locked up all by myself But I'm known to grow my own I burn it till it's gone Like there ain't nothing wrong I'm just out in the shade Watching the world go up in flames [ Review #828 w 3 pic Feb 15, 2025 ] Here, can't complain! @Santa Monica Airport CA Thur 2/6/25 Going home tonight! I utilized this airport because I had a Mexico cruise trip scheduled with Carnival Cruise Lines. Upon arrival, this airport felt unique compared to most airports. Instead of the traditional method of exiting the plane by walking on a jet bridge, passengers had to walk down portable stairs onto the tarmac (paved surface on the airport runway). Then, there was a designated walkway to get inside the airport to pick up luggage from the baggage claim area/carousel. I absolutely adored the gorgeous, open-air conceptual design of the airport. I was met with the fresh Southern California breeze, a plethora of palm trees, and beautiful sunshine from the sky. I also appreciated that this airport was considerably less crowded with individuals. The ease of navigation within the smaller building made a difference in getting in and out. All in all, the entire environment was picturesque, calm, and relaxing. There were a couple of eateries and a convenience store available for the general public. Since I was in the South Concourse, these options included Boathouse on the Bay, Sheldrake Coffee Roasting & Sweet Jill's Bakery, and Travel@Ease Gifts and News. I finally came back to the Long Beach Airport on Tuesday, 05/19/26, around 10:30 AM to travel home. The line with Southwest Airlines was a tad long to drop off luggage. However, the TSA line was very swift at getting people through. I will be flying to and from this airport moving forward anytime I need to travel to the Southern California region.

They do not have the best selection of shops; although, it has gotten better over the years- still no competition over Oakland International Airport nor SFO, but it is all lit up all night and turnt up. I like that. I always take flights at the very last minute possible and I hate planning if someone else does the planning so, I'll sabotage you if you try to make me be somewhere at a certain time. I always end up taking the last possible flight. Even if my whole family or friends are on the same flight, but different than me. I've been known to switch airlines at the airport. So, depending on how long until my flight, I shop, so I prefer a long wait time. I am not sabotagable (I am able to make up words, yes) because I mastered the art of not giving a PHUCK when I was in my crib. When you land in Minnesota or Atlanta or anywhere late, it's dark and no one is around. The lights are off even if people continue to fly in and out. That sucks because it ruins the fun mood and when the fun times end, so does my being present.
