This morning as my teenagers got ready for school, the news was on the television. They were…read morereporting that Selena Gomez was getting criticized for her Music Awards Performance. Comments were made that she was off-key. She defended her performance by explaining that this was her first performance in 2 years and she was nervous. She has Lupus and has struggled with anxiety. At the same time, I am running around the house trying to get to work and my get house together for Thanksgiving which I host every year. I want everything in place to give my family a nice holiday. On my way to work, I started thinking about what I am thankful for this year. I am always thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for their love and friendship as well as their health and happiness. This morning as I think about Selena Gomez and food shopping, I realize how grateful I am to be able to go work at Allaire Community Farm. If you haven't been to Allaire Community Farm, you have to go. Spend some time there, enjoy the animals, the garden and the peacefulness of the farm. I have had the privilege of spending my work day there. I don't work for the farm directly, but I get to do my work there. Their mission statement is "nurture through nature and helping people achieve their full potential..." They "support special needs children and adults, at-risk population, families battling cancer, veterans with PTSD and the local community..." When you go to the farm look around, pay close attention and you will see so much more. You will see Sean, JoAnn, and Allison wearing more hats than seems humanly possible. You will see that the farm relies on volunteers to run. Dedicated people who give their time for the farm to succeed and people who truly believe in the farm's mission. You will see contractors and businesses donate their time, money and services. You see school groups, recreation groups and therapeutic riding instructors working with people with special needs. You will see a place that expects you to come as you are and be who you are. There are no "special needs" on the farm. You are welcomed, accepted and supported to meet your potential despite your abilities, background or life choices. In a world where people are quick to criticize people struggling and appearance is valued, it is refreshing and humbling to see how the farm brings people together and best out in everyone. This is the type of place and the values, I want for my children. I got there by chance and very happy that I did. If you have some time, stop by to visit and see what I mean.

Took 3 tries to find a clean table. Looked clean until I sat down. Debris and cranberry sauce on tables. After sitting at 3rd table I saw no one come to clean tables in the 20 minutes I was there. Place was empty so they had time. Biggest issue was my meal of turkey meatloaf, corn, potatoes au gratin and Mac and cheese were all luke warm. Whatever heats them must have been off. I would still try again. Just a bad day for them.

We usually stop by after a day at the beach and always get the turkey dinner, which comes with two sides. Portions are great, and the sides are the highlight--mac and cheese, stuffing, apple crisp, and sweet or regular potatoes are so delicious. The vegetables aren't my favorite, though. Service is decent and the interior hasn't changed much over the years, still decorated with turkey-themed decor. You order at the counter, and there's seating in the side room, though a lot of people do takeout. Prices are good for the portion sizes and quality. There's a farm next door that used to be a lot larger, but it's gotten smaller as houses have been built. There are still some goats, which is fun to see. I'd recommend Hincks Turkey Farm for a casual meal with that all-year-round Thanksgiving feel.

We were very…read moreexcited because who doesn't like lavender and alpacas...We arrived and drove up and overshot the dirt road where there was a bunch of cars. We turned around and noticed a small building with a young man sitting outside. We drove down the dirt road past a very small patch of lavender. ( maybe 40 or so plants) hardly a field! We parked next to all the cars and thought this was going to be good because there was quite a few cars. We quickly figured out that it was a private event . No signs ... nothing from stopping us from entering the private party. We walked over to the patch of lavender and decided to walk over to the farm store. The stand consisted of lavender plants selling for $ 30 for maybe a five gallon container .. inside there was soap and sachets which really had no scent what so ever. We walked out and asked the young man that was sitting outside if in fact it was a private party and he confirmed yes it was and that they weren't allowed to put up signs. ??? That Made no sense.. but what ever. He then said he was on the phone with his parents asking then what to do about us! Huh? We asked if we can go see the alpaca.. only one was by the fence . He said okay ... but they normally get $10!!! We declined and left . $10 to pet alpaca and look at a patch of lavender!!!! What a joke . The drive down the short dirt road would have been longer. Seriously a Waste of time if you think it's a place to spend some time. Do a google image and take a look for yourself... I wish we did.
