I usually love this place. Today was different. Got there 2:15 on a Wednesday. Went to front and ordered a meal to eat in. Got my order and went to get a table. Only 2 tables being used. Took 3 tries to find a clean table. Looked clean until I sat down. Debris and cranberry sauce on tables. After sitting at 3rd table I saw no one come to clean tables in the 20 minutes I was there. Place was empty so they had time. Biggest issue was my meal of turkey meatloaf, corn, potatoes au gratin and Mac and cheese were all luke warm. Whatever heats them must have been off. We usually stop by after a day at the beach and always get the turkey dinner, which comes with two sides. Portions are great, and the sides are the highlight--mac and cheese, stuffing, apple crisp, and sweet or regular potatoes are so delicious. The vegetables aren't my favorite, though. Service is decent and the interior hasn't changed much over the years, still decorated with turkey-themed decor. You order at the counter, and there's seating in the side room, though a lot of people do takeout. Prices are good for the portion sizes and quality. There's a farm next door that used to be a lot larger, but it's gotten smaller as houses have been built. There are still some goats, which is fun to see. Went there today and will probably only go back for nostalgia's sake "my dad loved the place". The food was mediocre at best and over priced. The staff.... JUST PLAIN RUDE! Literally some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. After she made our terribly made sandwich's and rung us up. We have been coming to Hinck's for so many years including an old location in Ocean Twp., which doesn't exist anymore. Yesterday was the first time I catered food from them and it was Easter. They didn't disappoint. It was more than enough food for 5 people and the mashed potatoes were so creamy, the turkey perfectly moist, the stuffing amazing as usual. The carrots were perfectly cooked but tasteless. I was warned there was no seasoning on it and it definitely needed something. It came with a can of cranberry sauce but I'd prefer their relish. The gravy is always delicious. It was $90 for everything which isn't bad considering I didn't put any labor into it. It was packed well and they provided a box for easy travel. Without question, this is the best turkey dinner for service, value and tastes I have ever gotten at a restaurant. They ladies serving everything up are all business but they have to be. The line is always to the door but moves quickly. One of the servers gave me a tip I will share: the turkey dinner comes with three sides and gravy for 15.50. Never make a rookie mistake like I did my first time here and get the cornbread as aside. The woman behind the counter the second time I went told me that the sides are 5.50 individually so I would make out better getting three real sides (which they pile on) and just buying the cornbread separately. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is all food that is on the more plainer less spicy side. They have lots of salads , potato, macaroni, turkey, tuna, Cole slaw, , there's a cold selection and a hot selection that had. This place is a wow. Their food is so fresh and delicious -- and not only their turkeys! I got the thanksgiving feast sandwich, which has their fresh sliced turkey, cranberries, stuffing and gravy -- all homemade. Isn't it much easier to pick up one of their twice baked potatoes than go through the work yourself? Obviously anything turkey-centric is the way to go. Their Thanksgiving sandwich (forget what they call it) has its fans, but I stick with the turkey club. I doubt anyplace has fresher, moister turkey than Hinck's. I went here today and was beyond disappointed, two woman working behind the counter were so rude to me from the start. We have been ordering our Thanksgiving turkey from Hinck's since the year 2000. Expect a delicious old-school turkey that tastes like "turkey" (Boomers will know what I mean) rather than those mass-produced bland birds embedded with pop-up timers. Curiously, Hinck's frozen turkey pot pies tend to be a tad watery, unlike its fine chicken pot pies. Give a try to the pot roast pie, which is particularly savory. Over the years we have also enjoyed many a satisfying cafeteria-style lunch there. The sandwiches are fresh, tasty and substantial. Along with its daily lunch specials, the hot buffet offers some of those yummy side dishes like your grandma used to make (get those au gratin potatoes). Though it may be pricey, the meaty cold lobster salad is delightful. Take a look at the photos: Hinck's is not at all a fancy place, but it's pleasant to chow down in that homey knotty pine lunchroom. They keep the joint real clean, too. The staff is very nice. Growing up in the area Hinks was a staple. I went there last night with my family and ordered the turkey breast dinner. It comes with 3-4 slices of turkey breast, macaroni and cheese, stuffing and mashed cauliflower. The turkey was dry and the gravy ontop was bland. They should add some rosemary or thyme. It would go a longgg way. Macaroni and Cheese was soupy...the cheese sauce is cheese "soup" with no flavor. It was quite disgusting. The stuffing is stovetop with some onions thrown in. Very mushy and overcooked. Looked like slop as they took ice cream scoops of it out. The mashed cauliflower was the best thing. It was cooked well and had decent buttery flavor but nothing spectacular whatsoever. I won't be back that's for sure. I'm very disappointed with the food here as it was such a good memory growing up. Sorry but this place is just another establishment that is lost in time and living on its reputation of a bygone era. The only reason I'm giving them two stars and not one is the fond memories I have going back a couple of decades. Their sides as well as their selection of sweets is simply yuck. But the icing on the cake is that we could not eat the sliced turkey breast, when we got home, as it was so tough and chewy we tossed it in the garbage. This place is awesome!!!! And unknown for the most part unless you're a local. Super good homemade food!!! Their specialties are turkey based but everything else is great too!!!
