    Retaining wall

Short story: Absolutely go with Atlantic Masonry & Tile for all hardscaping needs if you're lucky enough to be in their service area. Quoting and Scheduling: Absolutely wonderful experience in getting a quote and scheduling time to walk through the project. Renée and Zine were wonderful and patient in answering all our questions to get this project started. Renée was very communicative, followed up with us to keep things moving smoothly, and sent us plenty of information that helped us make decisions on the project. They weren't the cheapest quote, but were reasonable and we decided their professionalism, excellent communication, and technical skill made the price well worth it. Those feelings turned out to be correct! Work Completion: Guillermo and the crew were amazing. They worked efficiently, checked in with us where needed, and kept the site tidy. The guys were very friendly and we're very impressed with their work. Zine was incredibly knowledgable as our project touched most of our yard including: a complete overhaul of our front yard, replacement of a collapsing retaining wall in the back yard, finishing off a patio in the back. (Not pictured: Adding a couple of steps in our backyard, clearing overgrowth along the side of our house and laying down stone, and installing dry wells at each corner of the house to reroute gutter rainfall.) Zine was personally onsite nearly daily, and he was able to stop by pretty much immediately whenever we had any questions. He was also very flexible in helping us make design decisions as the project moved along. This project fixed so many different problems we were having, and we're thrilled with the outcome. Looking forward to putting in soil and plants in the spring! Thanks again!

Atlantic Masonry & Tile keeps their perfect score streak going! Zine and crew recently finished a driveway & wall rehab project for us and the results are amazing. Of the several contractors we had come and give us estimates/proposals, Zine was the only one who offered some creative ideas and solutions to our unique space. After our initial meeting, we had a few other ideas we wanted to get quotes on and communication with Renée to establish the quotes, sign the contract, and set up the schedule was quick, professional, and friendly. We had to have a tree stump in the work area removed by a stump grinding company and the AM&T team was accommodating and adjusted their schedule to help us demo out the space around the tree stump ahead of the full driveway demo job. As others have mentioned, the communication with Zine and Renée was so easy and professional that we had no concerns about this added layer of complexity since we knew they wouldn't leave us hanging. AM&T excavated the retaining wall and area where our stump used to be, built a new retaining wall to blend in with our existing one, added two sets of granite steps as well as a couple long granite steps leading to our backyard, and put a granite cap on the new wall and the old wall. There was a short, ugly concrete wall that we weren't sure what to do with (in the photos, it's the one under the white fence), but AM&T generously added a stone facade. Now this wall adds beauty not just to our backyard and patio but also to our compost/shed area, which used to feel really junky but that we now jokingly refer to as the "sexy compost" area. AM&T also demo'ed our existing concrete driveway and installed a new driveway of beautiful pavers in a lovely pattern (which they helped us select). The new driveway is re-graded so that rainwater runs to the street, and they added a dry well underneath some of the pavers at the end of the driveway to help with drainage. The team that did the job was professional and efficient. Since we were working from home, we got to watch the daily progress and were impressed with their speed and skill. Several of our neighbors complimented their work as the job was in progress and have come back to comment to us about how beautiful the new space looks. Our previous driveway was an eyesore and wasted space but is now an extension of our backyard patio and highlights the landscape garden that we love. Many thanks to Zine, Renée, and the whole crew at Atlantic Masonry & Tile. We love our new driveway and would not hesitate to recommend you to others. In fact, we're already thinking about what project you can help us tackle next!

We recently had our fieldstone retaining wall repointed, as well as having a new driveway done and a couple of smaller fieldstone walls built. Everything from start to finish was amazing with Atlantic Masonry & Tile and we are very happy with the final result. We met with Zine for the estimate in less than a week from our initial contact. We were quite impressed with his professionalism and suggestions for the work we wanted done. We had excellent communication from Renee during the whole process and she answered any questions we had very quickly. Alfredo and the entire crew were great! We hardly knew they were here, they kept the disruptions to a minimum, and worked very hard to get the job done within 5 days. We highly recommend Atlantic Masonry & Tile!!

Frank was a no show to give me an estimate, no communication that he was running late or unable to make it. He accommodated coming early one morning to give an estimate that seemed fair. Fast forward to when they were scheduled to do the work, 30 minutes past start time no sign of Frank's team and no communication. Contact the office find out that they won't make it today. My experience has been poor communication and unreliableness. Won't be giving them a chance to reschedule and waste anymore of my time. It was a small job so maybe not worth the effort to provide good customer service. Seeing the business's response adding this - I understand things happen and I am not expecting perfection by any means but a little bit of respect for my time and communication would have been nice.

Finally we were at the point where I could cover the studs and insulation and I am glad I didn't leave that in scope for my GC. I looked around a bit and found these guys. I don't have much to add that the other reviews haven't. Frank was communicative throughout the process from quote through execution and final invoicing. His crew got started right after we approved the work and they were onsite every day working to get the work done. He brought over a crew of like 4 or 5 guys who hung the drywall, mudded, sanded, primed and painted the ceiling of the 2 garage bays, enclosed stairwell and 500sqft bonus room with high ceiling, in like 5 days! If my GC would have been scoped to do this it would have been a 2 month process. Frank personally did a walk through with me after. Highly recommend.

Working with Masonworks has been a roller coaster. They are very, very good at the masonry aspect,…read morebut we had a negative experience with everything outside of the excellent stone walls and patio they built for us. They have built beautiful flat stone walls for us in our front and back yards. We were very impressed with them after the first job they did for us in our front yard a few years ago, so we did not even look at other companies when we wanted to spruce up our backyard this year. The garden walls they built in the backyard were once again beautiful. However, as a gardener, I was disappointed and frustrated by the following things: - Our contract included 50/50 loam compost for the new garden beds. During the job, we caught them filling the beds with the grass they had pulled up from our old lawn and asked them to stop doing that. - When I went to start planting, I found that the garden beds had only a layer of new soil but that my shovel quickly hit a lot of big rocks and uncovered old soil, debris, and trash. - They completely trampled and destroyed my established perennial garden, which was located in a garden bed above where the new beds were built. They also broke several pavers in a little garden path I had and removed them without replacing them. - They recommended microclover for my lawn and seeded it for us as part of the contract, but it grew in quite spotty despite us maintaining it properly with daily waterings. I contacted them about the first issue and their initial response was to tell me that the stones I was finding were part of the wall construction - this was not the case. They had someone come out to take a look and concluded that the soil did need to be replaced, which they finally did. It is much better now, though I still have found some large stones in it. However, in the process of solving that issue, they caused the second one - many of the perennials that my mother and I had worked to plant over the past four years were totally destroyed. They offered me a credit to compensate for the loss, or the option to have them reinstall new flowers, but by that point I just didn't want them near my garden anymore so accepted the credit. I didn't bother contacting them about the spotty lawn - I threw down some grass seeds yesterday to try and fill in the gaps. While I appreciated that they did eventually take steps to resolve the issues, I found it quite frustrating to have to keep reaching out just to get them to do what they really should have done in the first place. They never did a final walkthrough as I've seen other contractors do. No apology for destroying my garden. They have a Benjamin Franklin quote, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" - I definitely felt some of that bitterness throughout this process. My conclusion is that they are really excellent masons but do not understand or respect gardens. If you hire them, be prepared to have to deal with that.
