Called just now trying to schedule an appointment and was passive-aggressively rushed and demeaned by the receptionist at the Chesapeake location. She wouldn't give me her name and then hung up on me. Unhelpful. If they treat you this badly at reception, imagine how well they treat you medically or what they say behind your back. Had to use the walk in service for help. No issues, an X-ray and some instructions. Every person I encountered, gave the upmost of their duties. Customer service is not lacking in any area I encounter. Wish I could remember names. Give the date of service (9/12/25) and the office can reward them properly. Thanks to the whole office. They preformed a surgery on my shoulder, which was broken in 5 pieces. A lot of screws and staples later I was in the worst pain I have ever been in. They gave me pain meds for the first month of my arm being broken, Which was barely enough to get me through the PT 3 times a week. After that they pawned me off to my regular doctor for a referral to pain management. I went back to Atlantic Ortho a month later to find out that my surgery is not healing properly. REFUSED PAIN MEDICATION AGAIN! They in stead decided to RX a ultrasound bone stimulator... I would not have a problem with any of these outcomes except the only Pain Management places in town that take my insurance, are booked for the next several months. My regular Dr. says he cannot RX Pain Meds... And in my mind if Atlantic Orthopedics Specialist are going to do a surgery on someone that does not heal properly, they should be responsible for that patients' pain until a fix is resolved. Unfortunately like Sentara, AOS has this area on lockdown. read more

Their bedside manner truly shows that they genuinely care about the patient and their recovery.They try to get to the root cause of the situation and not just randomly say physical therapy like other doctors. I think the service that orthonow provides is fantastic, and a much needed one. Dale was fantastic and exceptionally nice, one of the best providers I've Ever seen, as were the rest of the staff. I had a fantastic experience from the front desk workers to the X-RAY tech. Yes, the wait was longish, overall I was in there for about 3 hours, but the service is well worth it. It's a small practice and I think Dale sees everyone, so I went in expecting there to be a wait. 10/10 would recommend to a friend in pain. read more

This medical practice is the absolute worst. Pay me, pay me, pay me...and completely unresponsive on the back end. The "care" is tenuous at best, and they will absolutely "treat you" and definately street you as soon as possible. I went to Skidmore. Nice enough guy I guess, but without a doubt (in my view) moving as fast as possible to make the most of a dollar. After the first appt., no more Skidmore, just a P.A., and why not? It's a much better for them to provide the least amount of care for the most amount of money. And to call for a secondary appt. or a referral for a another practioner? Good luck on that one. Dr William Byrd did my knee replacement, a year ago and I plan to have the other knee done in September 2022. He's a wonderful man and Dr he listens to your concerns and answers all your questions. He makes you feel comfortable with your decisions. I trust him doing my surgeries and know he's going to take good care of me before, during and after! I wouldn't trust any other Dr to take care of my Orthotic needs except him. read more

Mixed feelings. Dr. Campbell was excellent, he is friendly and a great doctor who fixed my foot issues. I had surgery and the pain went away. I was having knee pains and had a meeting with Dr. Shall within minutes of meeting with him he said oh you need to lose weight. He admitted he hadn't even looked at my chart or xrays. He is a very condescending person and needs to look at himself because he is not in prime health either. It's funny how I had another doctor look at my xrays and immediately said we need to do surgery you have bone on bone knee damage that is causing you the pain and difficulty walking. Interesting the type of care one receives when you want to do your career. I found another doctor at another orthopedic office who performed the surgery and I am walking without pain. read more

Dr Campbell was polite, friendly, helpful and sensitive to my pain At AOS I've learned that as a walk-in the wait time may take some time but not as long as waiting for an initial appointment. I had been trying for at least three weeks to get an appointment for a painful knee issue that continued to worsen and was significantly impacting my mobility. I had a very pleasant and successful experience with the Jordan Young Institute three years ago with my opposite knee. However, this time, after three calls to my doctor at the Jordan Young Institute and being told three times I would get a call back from him, I waited another week and out of desperation and no returned calls, I called Atlantic Orthopedic. I was told to come in and within two hours of my call, I was seen by an NP, had Xrays taken, was in and out of the clinic with a cortisone shot and nearly instant relief. Although some may say it was because I didn't see a doctor, the very knowledgeable and caring NP did the same type of evaluation, took xRays to ensure there wasn't any visible damage to my knee (one step more than I received at Jordan Young), and received a Cortisone shot. In less than two hours from my call to Atlantic, had a shot that has given me the pain relief and reduction of swelling to regain my mobility. I didn't have to wait for an appointment, I had a short wait in the office to be seen, and a very proficient/personable staff. Great experience all-around. ....and still no call from the Jordan Institute. read more

Told I could walk in if I brought my records. Came by to come in as a walk in, was turned away even though I brought all my records but the receptionist said they couldn't see me without sending my records to their records department. Told me to call back if I do not hear from them in 3 days with an appointment. I called back to check if I could get an appointment. They don't know who has my records. Told they will call me back. The phone receptionist who answered and was searching for my records kept me on hold 20 minutes and then came back and yelled at me for being rude to her since the moment I got on the phone because I told her I was worried she wasn't going to return and no one had picked up for 20 minutes. She heatedly told me did I want her help or not stating that I was very rude to her since I got on the phone which I do not feel I was. I simply stated what they told me previously. She was so rude she brought me to cry. I just need to see the doctor for my broken wrist. Not so sure it's worth pursuing. read more

If you care at all about your loved ones, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE! Staff is extremely rude. I called on the phone and was given incorrect information about receiving a copy of an x-ray. Was told to go the office where x-ray was taken, and they would be able to burn a copy in a few minutes. The woman at the desk (Stephanie, at the Chesapeake location) wouldn't let me finish a sentence before telling me that this was wrong. She cut across me repeatedly, and then she then made me wait in the car despite the fact that my husband is barely able to walk on his own! Caregivers are supposed to be able to wait with those for whom they are caring. We got the x-ray readily, despite her dire warnings that we would have to go to another location to pick up the disk. All of this confrontation could have been avoided had Stephanie known anything at all about how to talk to people. She clearly enjoys the little bit of power that she has over those people who are in pain and need help. The fact is, every staff person at this location needs customer-service training. After initially taking my husband to OrthoNow, the person behind the desk who was checking us out barked at me: "Doctor?" "Excuse me?" I replied, not understanding. "Doctor?" she repeated. I gave her the name of our PCP. Now she says: "Did they refer you to a doctor?" A complete sentence that made sense would have been appreciated from the beginning. When we called to schedule a follow-up appointment, we were referred to a surgeon, who was confused as to why my husband was seeing him. The doctor then referred my husband to ANOTHER specialist at a different location. We went to check out. The woman at the desk scheduled the new appointment and then answered the phone while I was waiting to ask a question about the next appointment. She looked up at us with the phone on her ear and said, "You're all done." We went to our PT and got a referral to another orthopedist, which is why we needed the x-ray, which takes us back to the beginning of this review. Do yourselves a favor: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Even the emergency room is better. read more

I will never return here I rather sit in the ER for 8 hours over coming back in here! I saw a Paige Turner at the Ortho-Now Urgent Care. I fell and obviously injured my foot. What do they do, X-ray my back! Argued with me over me wanting her to check my foot. Then I finally get her to look at my foot after I shove it in her face to look at it. It was lightly bruised and really swollen. I was told it is not swollen or bruised it must be the lighting. She squeezed and jerked around my toe that was obviously swollen and bruised, then told me it should not hurt that bad. After an hour of being home now my foot and toe are swollen more and the bruise is huge and pain is unbearable. Then I was told that she knows all about my Chronic illness and the numbness was not normal. Umm yes it is! Unless she is a neurologist she has no place telling me my neurologist is wrong. Plus I am a nurse and I have researched my illness to the T! I was discharged with a surgical boot so I can "walk normal" as she put it and foot pain! She did not address the pain in my hip or down my leg! So if you want care from a kindergartner then this is the place to go! read more
