Small and nice dog park, just no clear indication of where you should and shouldn't park to go to the park

Plenty of bathrooms and food vendors. Water was free just need to bring your bottle. Huge TV screen to watch the soccer matches. Well done here. Plenty of vendors selling water, beer, sodas, and cocktails. Great job here Atlanta. Epic event y'all pulled off here for the world coming to Atlanta for the World Cup matches.

I left grateful for the green space but not really feeling much else. For the kids, you have to realize: the Olympics put Atlanta on the map. Prior to the games, it was a mid-to-largish Southern city without much distinction.* After the games, it turned into the crowded af bastion of Southern pop culture. Atlanta's history is divided in pre- and post- games. That's why I thought that a trip here would be akin to Central, Golden Gate or Lincoln. Nope. It had some nice intentional design. Pavers. Statues. Fun water features. The Ferris wheel. The rings (the water fountain wasn't working during my visit). But... I don't know. Like I inferred above, it fell flat. Glad I saw it but I expected more. It's smaller than you imagine. Oh, and all the bathrooms were closed/locked on a Wednesday afternoon in mid-spring. I don't know what that's about. *Taking nothing away from Dr. King.

I had the pleasure of walking along a short stretch of it close to Ponce City Market and appreciated the integration of this accessible public space for the community. Aside from the restaurants and retailers directly adjacent to many sections of this path, there are numerous sections dedicated to mural and street art by local artists. There are also tour, fitness and other seasonal activities organized through the Beltline organization, you can sign up on their website (account creation needed).

It is also very wide, but you have to be careful of bicyclist who think they are in the Tour de France, zooming by. It is an excellant use of the space. It consists of 4.6 miles of multi-use trails and a future light rail transit line. On average, the Beltline attracts 3,000 trail users each weekday and over 10,000 users each weekend day. I actually took a scooter up and down the trail. You will find tons of them from Lime, Bird, and Spin. You will also find a few bicyclist on the trail too. This was the first section that was finished from the old rail corridor. It was was funded by a combination of public and private sources and runs from the tip of Piedmont Park to Reynoldstown. In addition to the businesses, you will find some neat murals and sculpture along the trail. The trail seems to be popular among graffiti artist. It looks as if they will be opening some food trailers along the trail very soon. Some notable places along the trail include Ponce City Market, Illuminarium Atlanta, Historic Old Fourth Ward Skatepark, Yay Beignet, Freedom Park and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park is located just 3 blocks from the Beltline. The Beltline has lots of personality and flair. You will find locks of love, placed on a chain link fence on a overpass. The entire 22-mile stretch of the Beltline is forecasted to be completed in 2030. I cannot wait to see what they got planned. You can spend a lot of time on the Beltline, walking, biking, or scooting. There are lots of restaurants and bars to check out along the way too. I really enjoyed the Beltline and I am sure that you will do.

But I did notice significant changes to the park before I started coming. Pros: The large dog park is huge with plenty of space for your dog to run around and play. The trees offer great protection from the sun on those hot, summer Atlanta days. It's always stocked full of poop bags and miscellaneous toys that have been left either by the caretakers or previous users. The area is also very dog friendly! It's in the middle of downtown and midtown, so within a 15-20 minute walk you'll find tons of restaurants with dog friendly patios. Pretty much anywhere with a patio usually allows dogs! Cons: It's not an active dog park. In my experience, it averages about 1-2 parties in the park at a time. There's a lot of people that use the dog park especially around 8am and 5/6pm when people get off work, but outside of those hours it's pretty empty. Which is great if your dog isn't as social or needs to warm up to other dogs. However, if you're like me and have a very social dog, this might not be your park of choice just yet as it builds back up it's reputation.
