I've been visiting alot of dog parks in the Atlanta area to find a clean + safe spot for my pup to play/exercise/socialize. Brook Run remains to be my favorite spot so far. The dog park is sectioned off for large and small dogs. My review is based on the large dog park. Half of the park is filled with gravel makes the area cleaner than most after a rainy day. The other half is like a forested area with dirt. On hot afternoons, many dog owners and their pups gather in that area to keep cool. PROS: - 3 water stations - Multiple poop bag dispensers that always stocked in my experience - Lots of benches throughout the park - Wash off area outside the park - Almost always occupied with dogs throughout the day - Gravel - Convenient walking trail entrance adjacent to park - Well lit parking lot and park CONS: - Some days, there's more poop on the ground than others. Not too bad though. - The wash off area can be cleaner - Not close enough to home :( Parking is plentiful. I never have trouble finding parking unless there's a festival/event going on in the park. ** Note: Dog park is closed from 9am-12pm first Wednesday each month for cleaning** Bravo to the Brook Run community/volunteers who contribute to keeping this park clean and well stocked. read more

We always have a delightful experience here in comparison to other dog parks we've been to. The environment is welcoming and safe, making it ideal for both dogs and their humans to socialize and play. Owners are attentive and dogs are friendly. The only issue we would have is that there are a lot of small dog owners in the large breed area, and sometimes it feels like our pup can't freely play without worry that he would accidentally run them over. read more

We are ALWAYS looking for new places to take our pup for some exercise and fun. One of our neighbors recommended the Brook Run dog park and we have now been 5 times in less than 2 weeks! The basics - this dog park is encompassed within the larger Brook Run park which is also fabulous. Very spacious - lots of great walking trails, open fields, etc. There is plenty of parking right outside the dog park - one warning though: GO SLOW when coming into the main park - there are several speed bumps and humps that will absolutely wreck the bottom of your car - we learned that the hard way (we were going way under the speed limit in the park and still scraped in our sedan). The park is large, with about 2/3 of it being more "wooded" and this time of year that means TONS of leaves on the ground. Our pup had never experienced this much leaf buildup and she absolutely loves it, I think she really gets a kick out of the sound of leaves underfoot as she runs! There is also an area that is cleared and has gravel, so you can take your pick of areas to play in! There is a marginally cleared walking path that runs the perimeter of the wooded area, which we love, because our pup likes to wander off but stay within eyesight of us. The walking path gives my husband and I room to stretch our legs while also keep tabs on our doggo! Even with all of the trees and leaves, the park seems quite clean and there are several water and waste stations throughout. Also, tons of tennis balls everywhere! This park seems to stay busy - we were just there yesterday evening (Sunday) and there must have been 20 dogs enjoying themselves! All of the other families we have encountered are friendly and tend to keep a close eye on their dogs, so they can intervene if there are any issues. If you live in the area, this is a must add to your park rotation! read more

Went to Brook Run for the first time with my fur babies last night. Small and large separate areas. Huge large dog area, plenty to sniff and lots of friendly dogs all over. Everyone was courteous and all dogs had the best manners. Water and tennis balls a plenty. Separate entrances and exits kept the flow of coming and going traffic smooth. The city park was huge and I wish there were better signage to show where the dog park part was, but if you go past the skate park it's in the very back. Hope that helps. This is a really great dog park with a lot of space for handlers and canines to roam. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. It was a safe off leash space to let my husband's service dog stretch his legs and be a dog while in Atlanta for a few weeks. Do beware of the effeminate millennial with the aggressive dog. He clearly doesn't understand canine behavior and cues, nor does he know the difference between play and aggression body language. When he was asked to police his dog, he became passive aggressive and ran off half the people who had been there for the better hour visiting and playing. What a douche nozzle. The guy was clearly overcompensating for what he lacks upstairs and in his pants. Over all, it's a really great place and great folks. read more

I've always loved this park. It's set within a very large outdoors "complex". Not only can you let your dog run around, you can go around the trail and more but back to the park itself. I have a 25 pound dog and I would say she is somewhat in the smaller category of dog. She doesn't really care for the smaller dog area. There are mostly tiny and sometimes scared dogs there. The big dog area seems to have all sizes and a much larger area. There are plenty of areas for humans to sit and a ton more space for the dogs. The wooded area for shade is just about as large as the sandish gravel area. Everyone is usually very friendly too. You can also rinse your dog outside where they have a hose off area which is perfect. read more

My dog loves this park. We go on the large side and its very spacious with an open gravel area as well as a large shaded woodsy area with a small trail. It's nice because depending on my dog's mood, she gets to socialize and play but also just sniff and chase squirrels. The wooded area is mostly dry dirt. Since there are so many trees, I also think it dries faster after rain. There are water trays and hoses in different corners as well as trash cans and poop bags. I haven't had any problems with other dogs so far but i have seen other dogs go at it and owners have to leave with their dog. I would stay close to make sure your dog is safe. I do think some owners don't attend to their dog enough. There are many benches and it's easy to just let your dog roam out of sight. Due to this reason, not everyone cleans up after their dog as well. More pluses. Lots of parking. A big trail nearby that goes through the entire park. Lots of tennis balls hanging around. And shade!! Sometimes the park has weekend events and everything is packed, making parking at the dog park much harder. If you're going on the weekend during the summer, I'd check their website to make sure you arent going during an event. read more

My favorite place to walk my dog. The location, trail length, and scenery are great! I come here almost everyday. Plenty of bathrooms and stops along the way as well. I have been coming here for almost a year and my my only concern is that over the past month or two there have been some negative occurrences. For example, a man trying to spit on people as he rode his bike by and yelling at them (he got arrested) and I watched the police chase and taser a man from one of the bathrooms. So carry your pepper spray ladies! Overall a good park, you can't help the couple crazies here and there. read more

We were looking for a place to take our dogs to run off some energy and stumbled upon this place. Huge fenced in areas for full speed running and hide and seek. It is predominantly shaded with several benches, gravel (perfect for when the weather is wet), several doggy water stations, a doggy wash area, poopy waste stations, separate play areas for big (25+ lbs) and little dogs. In our experience, dogs and owners were friendly and attentive to their dogs. We will definitely be back. read more

Disclaimer: so I've actually never been to the dog park. No dog to bring to the dog park (although if anyone has puppies in the near future, please contact me!) BUT I have brought a dog here before, even though it was just to walk the trail. The paved walkways make for an easy run, but the steep climbs can be a little harder for a noob like me. I've been trying out this new running habit after my dad got me a Fitbit for Christmas. It's rough, because I'm super competitive and I hate running or walking. It's a lose-lose situation owning a Fitbit. The Brook Run trail doesn't make it any better: I feel pretty discouraged not being able to run the full 2 miles without stopping. Over time, I'm hoping to be able to do so at least once before moving on to a full 4 miles (2 laps). This isn't my favorite trail, as you get a lot of car traffic alongside your run. I wish they could have moved the trail deeper into the forested area. I ran across a family of deer treading through the trees, which was a neat sight to see. I don't like how the park closes at sunset, as I don't get off work sometimes until dusk. Better lighting and security could help alleviate risks of incidents happening - but I suppose that also costs a little money. Overall, this trail is close to my condo, so I can't complain about the convenience. However, I hope Dunwoody can continue to expand their parks and recreation for aspiring runners like me! read more

Went for the first time yesterday and I just loved the small dog park. It's was completely shaded with plenty of seating and places to pick up after you pet. There were even water bowels and places to fill up the water bowls. We meet some really nice people and everyone's dog was well mannered and all the dogs got along great. The big dog park had a lot of dogs and a lot of dogs were barking and a few got into a tussle. I'm glad I didn't take my dog on that side. We stayed for a few hours because we loved it so much. read more

I love the size of this dog park, how there are shaded areas and non-shaded areas, how there is a separate area for small vs big dogs, and that it's pretty well-maintained for the most part. The owners I've met have been attentive to their pets and respectful of the space. Unfortunately this past weekend, there was a dog showing a lot of aggression in the large dog section that bit down on the face of a golden retriever and would not let go. It took several people to break it up, and someone (possibly the owner) kept hitting the aggressive dog in an effort to have the dog let go of the retriever's face. The retriever was crying and yelping the whole time (both during and after the attack), luring the attention of several other dogs in the park. I immediately leashed my dog as I always stay near him in case of events like this. While the humans at this park may be polite and well-mannered, it's scary to know that dogs with the potential for such aggression are roaming around. It was a really scary moment to witness, and we were immediately turned off and left. But I still plan to take my dog back again someday as it really is a nice area for dogs to play in. I'll just have to be even more cautious than before and would advise everyone to keep a close eye on your dogs in case something like this happens again. read more

My dogs love this park. We have bounced around a lot of OTP dog parks and yet as soon as we pull into Brook Run my dogs go bonkers. I like that the dog park (large dog section) is split in half with a wide open area for dogs to run and a treed area for dogs (like mine) to hunt. Yes owner behavior can always be improved, but the park itself gives them more than enough opportunities with ample poop bag stations and trash cans. Dog behavior, well you will have some incidents happen but the majority of the time when we are there dogs run and play and wrestle without concern. We are such big fans we make the 35 minute drive there constantly, and our dogs come home happy and worn out. read more

Come on Thursday nights during the summer and fall and you can envo enjoy the food truck festival and live music with your pup's. Most visitors are well behaved with responsible parents. Love this park! Yes, bringing the pooch to the dog park portion or this massive urban gift is splendid--but I'd like to review the whole dang park! They've recently added miles of wide paved walk/bike/run ways! The food truck Thursday's never disappoint! There's lemonade days in April each year--a carnival atmosphere with fun for every age! If your a student at PCMS you can walk right over after school and get your exercise on in a fun safe environment. Recently added is a canopy tree tour & zip lines! And there's an AWESOME skate park for skateboarders or their admirers. The playground is also state of the art(they have their own yelp checkin) Many different ways to get moving in a urban location with a great park setting. read more

This is the gold standard for dog parks. The only thing is that it is large and people tend to wander off and dogs poop behind their backs and sometimes misbehave. I would suggest any dog under 45 lbs should be watched carefully or taken to the small area for smaller dogs. So watch your step and pitch in if you can. It's a wonderful canopy of trees and trails when it is not too crowded. read more

I've taken my dog(s) to at least 6 dog parks around Atlanta and to me this is the biggest and the best of them all. The park is huge. This is a plus and a bit of a drawback as well. I took my two dogs yesterday. It was nice because it wasn't crowded late on a Thursday morning. I say the size is a drawback because you can easily lose sight of your dog. That happened to me yesterday with the youngest of the two. He decided to mosey off with a black lab and his owner. Once I caught up with him I was greatly relieved. There is plenty of room for dogs to run, play and have fun. They supply water but you might want to bring your own if you don't want them drinking the dirty community water. But what do they care, they're having fun! Just be careful and keep a watchful eye out on your dogs. Yesterday there was a sign on the gate noting it's snake season. Tough to find but worth it! Large and fenced in park with partial sun, partial shade, ample parking and clean!

I really like this park, it is about 18 mins from me but worth the drive. One thing I really like is the parking lot. Always plenty of parking also I enjoy being able to park and walk straight into the dog park. Also my dog loves it she runs all over and I don't have to worry since it's gated. Lots of balls and benches. I believe there is 2-3 water bowls and one gate for entrance and one for exit. Dogs are friendly and owners are near by. read more

As dog parks go, this one above average because of its size and easy access. You can park right next to both large and small dog parks. Plenty of places to sit. Well maintained. Lots of tennis balls for dogs to chase. People do a really good job of cleaning up after their pets. Wish it had a water feature and it would be a 5 start. read more

We really enjoyed visiting this park until our small dog was viciously attacked by a very disobedient and ill-tempered pit bull not too long ago. Normally the owners are really good with refereeing the play fights. Unfortunately, we got stuck with an owner who waited to claim their dog several minutes AFTER almost snapping my dog's neck. Thankfully, good Samaritan's jumped into action and helped pry the pit's mouth open. read more

I love Brook Run! They've recently completed repaving and resurfacing all of the walking/biking/running trails, and I couldn't be happier that I live right down the road. There is so much to do and always some cool event being hosted here that it makes for a great way to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. The park itself is fairly large and is split up into sections. There is a playground area, skate park, dog park section, walking/jogging trails, gardening patches, picnic areas, open grassy areas, and more. No matter what you're looking for in a park, there is something for everyone here. The park also hosts a ton of events! Recently fellow yelper Gerald E. and I ran thar Viva La Margarita 5K here which wound through all of their trails and pathways to be followed by a fiesta celebration! I've also attended their Howloweenie festival in October which brought together tons of dachshund owners and their pets for a day of racing, costumer contests, arts and crafts, and more. While I don't own a dog myself it was neat to see all the puppies in their spirit wear! The park regularly hosts Food Truck Thursdays in the spring and summer and often opens up the grounds to local school events, sports teams, and more. The park is very well maintained and super inviting. It's a safe, open space for the community to get together and enjoy the outdoors! read more

I like that this dog park is different than most: it's wooded, a decent size, tucked away from any busy areas. Hands down, though, this place attracts the crazies. Every single time I have been there, an "incident" has occurred. I've met some nice people here, but I've also met rude, bizarre, and creepy people. First and foremost, this is a public park, not someone's personal backyard. The "board members" come off as overbearing and very possessive of this park and I have found their Facebook postings inappropriate on several occasions. Several park regulars have formed a clique and spend their time at the dog park passing comment and judgment on other goers. On to the incidents that have occurred: I've seen dog fights (none with my pup, thank god!), human fights, a dog abandoned, a car broken into, a man using the dog park as his jogging course, and parents bringing small children to run through the woods. The most recent incident, that I didn't witness, made the local papers when a park goer attacked an off-duty police officer. I think there are definitely friendlier (and safer) dog parks in Atlanta. I'd be hesitant to recommend this dog park to others, and it's a shame, because it had the potential to be a great place in terms of setup and location. And if you do come, bring bug repellent!! I'll go ahead and agree with Dawn L, this is the best dog park in the area. People are friendly, the trees keep the place cool and usually the dogs get along pretty well-- most dog owners are very attentive. Also, there are lots of places to sit and the park is well maintained. Just a few rules to follow: Pick up after your dog or be warned! Tons of people volunteer and care about this park. They make a great effort to keep it clean. If you don't pick up after your dog, expect someone to say something or at the very least expect glares from other patrons. Bring water--the regulars will notice if you continually show up without any. Bug repellent is a MUST. Especially if you go behind the park into the woods where the stream is. Finally, don't be dumb and bring your lunch to the dog park! You cannot eat in a place where there are multiple greedy dogs running around. Food also causes fights so PLEASE keep your food out of the park. And, the dogs can get rough. I wouldn't recommend bringing small children but if you do, keep a close eye on them. Otherwise, this place is fantastic! I love it! read more

I took my 50 lb lab mix here one hot Wednesday afternoon in August. Likes: SHADE!, dog owners were friendly, places for owners to sit and relax, eclectic dog park (more like a playground for dogs) Dislikes: Since it is completely shaded and wooded, there is little room for dogs to run. My dog likes to go to the dog park to stretch his legs and run around, but there are logs that dogs may trip on when running around with others. Take it or leave it: I'd take it on an especially hot summer day, but on cooler days, it's probably better for dogs who prefer sniffing around to running around. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. If you want your dog safe, this is the last place to go. We came here to try out a new dog park and left within 5 minutes. When we brought our dog in, he was circled by 5 dogs and then was immediately attacked. A large dog named Hugo mounted him first and would not get off. The owner was nowhere to be found. Then a pitbull mix started lunging at his throat and trying to attack him. After that, multiple dogs were after him. Finally, the owners of came over to get their crazed dogs. Only then we find out that the owners of these dogs were sitting in their foldable chairs with their backs to the dogs having social hour. When we finally picked up our dog to leave, the owners did not care to apologize or see if our dog was okay, they just sat back in their chairs and let the dogs have free reign again. When we got home, we found a puncture wound in his shoulder... If you are going to take your dog to a public dog park, 1. Make sure it's not aggressive and 2. WATCH YOUR DOG!! Also, this dog park is subpar compared to others in the area. It wreaks of urine and is all gravel. read more

I used to come to Brook Run only for their dog park and their community garden since it seemed they were always in the constant construction mode. We found ourselves back there 2 weeks ago when the weather was unexpectedly beautiful and saw that the construction was done and there was a new pathway. This pathway really rocks! It's wide enough where 2 people walking side by side has enough room, is even and the trail is pretty clean too. There were plenty of other people, kids and dogs in tow enjoying it as well. The path circles the park and has some shady areas as well so there is relief when the GA summer sun is beating down on you. I like the fact that even though the park is right off the road, and the path will actually run parallel to it in some places, it is relatively quiet. Because this path does go all the way to the back part of the park, I would not recommend this for someone out on their own after dark because it does get pretty secluded. read more

I've been to a few of Atlanta's off-leash dog parks, and so far this is the best. It's wooded, has seating scattered throughout the park, and the owners actually pay attention to their dogs. If you go, please bring a jug of water with you. There is no water fountain onsite. Also, plan to wear some bug spray! Because of the large trees, the canopy can trap the moisture in the park, which is a blessing for biting critters, not so much for the humans. The dogs don't seem to mind, though! read more

My husband Aaron and I have been bringing our beagle-terrier mix Jackpot to Brook Run for about a year. We absolutely love this park for the following reasons: 1) The place is huge and completely fenced. 2) The shady trees keep out direct sunlight, which cools the place down in the Atlanta heat. 3) The volunteers take amazing care of it. In the year we've been going, they have worked to prevent erosion by putting in logs and railroad ties in strategic places, placed poo stations in more places in the park, and adjusted the water stations (although yes, they ask you to bring water - we take empty Arizona iced tea jugs and reuse them). Every now and then they might close for a Sunday so the people from Just a Walk in the Park and Boy Scouts and other wiling volunteers to work on maintaining the place to keep it going. This place is puppy heaven. My only negative experience occured when my dog was bitten on the ear by another (something that has never happened to us before). I didn't recognize the dog or its owner, but he bled and it was scary. I mention this because two other owners, also regulars, immediately came to see if he was ok, and they got me water to rinse his ear and paper towels to put pressure on the bite. They were supportive and reassured me that he was going to be ok. Even with that incident, I come back because my dog loves the park. read more

The small dog portion says 25lbs and under. There were a couple of 20 pounder puppies that scared my 7 pound puppy. My 7 pound puppy did not run much. The ground is covered with gravel and one of her paws was bloody. The mosquitos we're very well controlled which is super nice. read more

My dogs LOVE this park. Before I discovered this little gem, I would go to Piedmont Dog Park, which is a great dog park. However, Brook Run puts it to shame. This dog park has a walking trail (inside the fenced dog area, that's how spacious it is), it's got trees, logs, various and many bench seating areas within the fenced dog area, and on top of it all also has a small dog area as well. Not only is the dog park great, the rest of the park is fantastic. It's got paved trails, picnic areas, a gazebo, and I'm sure much more that I, personally, haven't explored. Everyone should be warned that this park is EXTREMELY busy on beautiful weekends, and I think saying "extremely busy" is an understatement. The parking at the dog park is quite limited compared to the size of the dog park itself, so I would prepare yourself if you do go on the weekend. read more
