There is a strong junior fireman program for teens to learn and become firemen - they have their own uniform and gear. We had a junior firemen offer our kids an opportunity to try in their firemen gear- it was a kid being kind to another kid. So they teach teens to save and care about their fellow neighbors. They also had food, a bounce house, opportunity to see their drones, K9 Leah (with her own playing card and stickers), trying out the water spray hose on street, and a live demonstration of firemen extricating a person when the car door doesn't/can't open. Shows the best in our firemen and inspiring for other to join a caring organization!

The New Hyde Park Fire Department Emergency Unit provided excellent, prompt and professional…read moreservices to me on July 21st after I suffered injuries because of a fall on the side walk. The emergency crew responded quickly . They promptly placed me in their emergency vehicle, stopped the bleeding from my wounds, verified my vitals and treated and bandaged my wounds. Throughout the event they provided the required care in a professional, knowledgeable and friendly caring way. They also helped the responding police officer to set up emergency tape to warn other penestrians of the danger created by the remnant of a sign post that had been left embedded in the sidewalk and over which i had tripped and fallen. My sincere thanks go out to the emergency crew members and police officer who helped me in this time of need.

If you love the nostalgia of fire trucks, Halloween, and/or the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow--this is the place to check out! Their truck is the coolest one we've ever seen--painted orange and black with flaming jack-o-lanterns and the Headless Horseman. The window over the front door is a beautiful stained glass rendition of the horseman himself. I teach English and this year taught a unit on Washington Irving's story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. While in the actual location of the story, we had been looking for souvenirs and cool places to take photos. I saw a local fireman at a red light and asked if I could take a photo of his Sleepy a Hollow decal. I said, "You should sell t-shirts because I would buy one!" And he said,"We do! Let me meet you at the station." How lucky we were: they opened the doors to the garage and rolled out their amazing truck to share with our family--one of the firemen even gave us a tour and recited some of the famous local legend. Our kids were so excited! The t-shirts and hats are awesome, too! They have the Headless Horseman decal as well. Thank you for the gifted hat to my little boy, he was smiling ear-to-ear! This event was the highlight of our cross country trip from California and we will never forget! Thank you for giving us a memory we will never forget!!!

Never HEARD anything unusual until we settled in. Then I would hear this loud horrendous horn. It would give me heart palpitations, it goes off at all times, then it made my heart break when it went off and scare my baby, awaken the baby while sleeping, the poor thing. If I rented, I would have moved out but since I am stuck financially, I have to bear it. But, when I hear it, I think, as long as it's not my house and as long as my family members are safe. But when I do finally get to move out of here, I WILL NEVER MISS THAT FIRE HORN.

It is located at East 43rd Street, half a block from Bryant Park. It is 9 ft. bronze figure of a fireman kneels on a granite base of one hand on his helmet and the other on his forehead in utter anguish, distress, grief/ loss, moment of reflection and possibly prayer. I admire this statue for its symbolism, dedication, moment of reflection of that ill-fated date, resilience, and deep reverence. It honors and remembrance the 343 FDNY firefighters lives lost that ill fated date. The Kneeling Fireman certainly captured my attention during and through the passage of my travels. It cannot be missed when walking through East 43rd Street in Midtown East, Manhattan, NYC. There are three bronze plaques: a description of the memorial statue, a Firefighter's Prayer, and Emigrant Savings Bank in conjunction with the Milstein family. I think the green grass surrounding the granite base is aggravating annoying. A Fireman's Prayer "When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age. Help me to embrace a little child before it's too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. It honors the 343 firefighters of the NYFD who perished on that terrible day. It was commissioned by the Firefighters Association of Missouri and was manufactured in Parma, Italy. You can't miss it as you approach the Emigrant Bank building at 6 E 43rd Street. The plaque says it is the only 9/11 memorial in midtown Manhattan. There are two plaques -one with the history of the memorial and one inscribed with the words of "A Firefighter's Prayer": "When I am called to duty, God Wherever flames may rage, give me the strength To save some life whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, Or save some older person from the horror of that fate. Deer Park Fire Dept : I am in the Coast Guard auxiliary, and…read morelast week Deer Park fire department had their annual health and safety fair. Most of the usual vendors were there. This is my third year doing this event and let me tell you Deer Park Fire Dept is simply great. You were treated like a rockstar from the minute of your arrival. They have table set up for you, there is plenty of parking, they provide water all day long and at lunchtime the spread that they put out is simply marvelous. They are all types of vendors, The CERT team. The State Troopers, Suffolk county Police and many others. Suffolk County Aviation Department which is a branch of the Suffolk County police even had a helicopter for the kids which landed. All in all it turned out to be a spectacular day, and I commend the Deer Park fire department in such a wonderful job, and I look forward in returning next year to help out and represent the United States Coast Guard auxiliary.

Presented this family fair event at two locations-Syosset/Woodbury Community Park from 6-8 on Tuesday August 5th and at Bethpage High School 10 Cherry Avenue, Bethpage at 6:30pm -8:30pm. Both events had Live Music. In Syosset by 106 North and in Bethpage by Tom Chupka & Friends. The Syosset Park- event had various giveaways, treats and a variety of things to see and do there, including cotton Candy giveaways from Carnival Parties. At Cobs Bread Bakery booth yummy snacks were given out as well. I met Deputy Commissioner Jeffrey Sattali from the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management -OEM- I got a tour of their mobile van. Inside were multiple band radios for Emergency Management. Why a mobile unit? For big events as the Air Show at Jones Beach there are literally thousands of people, so the unit can be moved on location for possible needs. Giveaways here were, a CERT first aid kit (good in a car) and an infrared thermometer for the forehead to take temperature. There were various Military and Fire Department vehicles on display.(see pix) with charming, knowledgeable men explaining what they were and how they were used and yes women- one of whom I saw in an Army jeep. Party House in Woodbury is now the place to get party supplies, SPCA was there giving handouts on how to prepare before a disaster and with 2 working dogs (who love to be pet) , and there was a wonderful GS Police Officer dog on duty as well. A kids Bicycle raffle for a helmet along with bicycle safety were at one booth , A great sign done by the Interns was also on display, as were wehearyouli.org a nonprofit organization supporting families of children deaf or hard of-hearing, NY Literacy Project, and some businesses as Forging Fit with Personal Trainer Tommy DeChiaro, Rallye at rallye.com and Jersey Mikes team from their Hicksville location . A nice local event and something to look for next year.
