We were told by a couple of locals that this was the best in Courtenay, and Yelp pretty much confirmed the verdict, so we were unpleasantly surprised by one of the worst dining experiences I've had in BC. First off, we ordered fish tacos that were basically Old El Paso off the shelf hard corn shells with a bit of fishy salmon and some cod or other whitefish. The salsa was just cubed fruit, meh. The best thing about it was the sauce, but there was so little of it you could barely taste it. They came with a "Ceasar salad" and my partner got the soup of the day. Both lackluster and small. Service was weak and rushed. I ordered a 2.50 iced tea and it was barely cold water with a bit of tea flavor over a glass full of ice with no refills. Really? We spent over $40 on what we could have put together in five minutes back at the hotel. I would recommend a big miss on this one. Love this place. Been coming here since I was about 19, and every time I am back in the valley I make it a point to stop in. I crave the quesadillas on a regular basis and am coming back soon for more! Only thing I have ever had here that I did not care for was a french kiss champagne cocktail that had too much raspberry pulp and was more bitter than I am used to. So I have been here twice. I had the Carbonara both times. It is possibly the best I have ever had. I recommend it without reservation. The first time it came with wonderful home made bread. Also some of the best I have ever had. The second time , no bread. It took me a couple of bites to realize it was missing. I flagged the waitperson and pointed out the oversight to which she replied , "it does not come with bread". I explained that the last time it did and she simply repeated what she had said. I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would imply I was lying when I am a paying customer. Speaking of paying this dish is expensive. $18. But as I said I had it a second time so I think it is worth it. If it comes with the bread I had the first time. Now after all that I still recommend this place. The service is very good and the food is some of the best you will ever find. I would give it 5 stars but the unfortunate encounter with this particular waitperson left a sour not in my mouth. My day was going well. I thought I would try the Atlas Cafe in Comox for a late lunch. I ordered from the menu, what they call 1 pound of wings. It took only 3 minutes for the food to arrive. I tried a flat piece of the salt and pepper wing and it was ok. The next piece I tried was the drumette and it felt like I bit into a piece of rubber. I thought this is odd. So, I took my fork and tried to pull off a piece of the chicken to no avail because the chicken was not cooked. The waitress in passing asked me how the food was and I think she was taken back when I said it's not cooked. The waitress took it to the kitchen where the chef said it was cooked. I told the waitress that I wanted to talk to the manager. The manager said the chicken was cooked. Would I like another order? I said, "No, what I wanted was for him to admit the chicken was not cooked". It was an unpleasant experience. Yes, I did pay for my food. I do not like to argue. read more

Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is great. The patio is cute. They are very child friendly. I love that they have Segura Vida cava sparkling on their menu - no one ever has that!!! finally, a dry sparkling on a menu at a restaurant that can be ordered by the glass!!! hoooooray for moi and other sparkly lovers. Great fine dinning with a cafe feel. The food, atmosphere, are the best here. Its like everyone is in on the party. Feel like you are going some where special for dinner, yet they keep it casual with the vinyl table cloths. They use fresh herbs which really make the meals extra great. I can get hot in there in the summers, and the line ups can be long. However its all worth it. I recommend it for food lovers everywhere. read more

Recommended by my Airbnb host. Fanny Bay Clams - yummy! Mediterranean Platter-perfect. Everything was very flavourful. Honestly, the best I have had! Service was great! Engaging but not over the top. Been a fan for 15 years, very consistent food. My fav for lunch is the Mediterranean rolls, its full of falafel , peanut sauce , avocado & tomato , order it on the curry tortilla. For appies , the roasted bulb of garlic with brie melted on foccacia bread is great & good for sharing. Also the samos with their signature curry dip. #1 salad is the roasted beet & goat cheese salad, a meal in itself. But the best is the fish tacos , always fresh . Coffee by the cup is superb. The service is hit & miss, Sam & Mikael are the best. I don't know why all the female servers have to say cheers everytime they come to your table though. The latest reno/addition does not fit with the rest of it. Poor design & decor , there is always a lot of patrons waiting for tables & they all have to squish in a 3ft x 5ft corner. But I do love looking at the creative fresh flower arrangements while I wait. Try going between lunch & dinner , a little less busy . read more

Great home made hash browns/fried wee tattles. Fresh fruit garnish was fresh and beautifully presented. Eggs benny had many tast variations. Options for GF veggie if you wish. Atlas is really really good. It is very vegetarian friendly and the food is great. Breakfast here is unbelievable; the heuros rancheros, all eggs benedict, the goatcheese omelete. I used to always come here for breakfast, and lunch. I was a little disappointed in their lunch, but then I went for dinner there...and they won me over again! Both were amazing. Right from the presentation to the taste. The different flavours to the palette was overwhelming. Great food, good prices and really nice employees. I've never had a dish there that I didn't like. I especially love the eggs benedict.
