True Healing begins with a relationship between two people who want the healing to occur. The trick is one of them has to have the years of training, experience, understanding of how the body and mind work as a whole organism to produce movement. The other person has to be willing to do the exercises and the mental work of healing his or her self. After 14 years of physical therapy in 5 different locations, foot surgery, I have a relationship of healing. Rick Olderman (Body In Balance) has designed an approach to physical therapy that is so precise that my neck pain of 50 years was solved in less than four visits. Last week I called my primary care doctor and left a message, thanking her for referring me to Body In Balance: "I had never heard of them, my neck pain is gone, and just don't bother sending people anywhere else." At seventy-one I had resigned my self to a life of low back pain (since I have spinal scoliosis); neck pain (due to whiplash, 1977); left foot pain (tennis injury,1965); and right knee pain (sprain in 2016). My only solution until now was deep-tissue massages that were wonderfully therapeutic but dialed back the pain only a few days. Body In Balance means what it says, so on the 5th visit, Rick began his analysis for my low back referral. That's when we discovered that I literally could not bear ANY WEIGHT on my left foot. In fact, I have lost strength in the whole left side of my body and have been gardening, walking dogs, cleaning using only the right half of my body. A flamingo or an ostrich? Ouch! Rick helped me see what I'm doing to compensate. I'm shifting my weight, arching my back and throwing out my left hip, producing low back pain on the left side. Then of course the right knee can't do it all and the left ankle is unstable and wobbles around in search of balance. So, Rick uses precise taping to support the ankle and teach it how to move. Now the trainer in Rick Olderman has raised the bar for me personally; he's assigned challenging exercises which will develop strength on the left side of my body so there will soon be balance in all my movements. As a 50 year old cyclst, and a long time athlete, I went in for an acute knee pain I began experiencing after a three day cycling tour this Spring. My pain was so acute, and so severe, that I thought maybe my cycling days were over. Rick asked me questions about ride position, and had me walk, and took video of my stride, took measurements of my flexibility, and asked me to demonstrate my ride position. Based upon my individual movement mechanics that he observed, Rick taught me how to modify my riding position, to test if this would eliminate the pain. After my initial visit, during a series of test rides, using a modified posture on the bike, my pain subsided. In another series of rides after my second visit, my pain vanished completely, even when my brain continued to tell me that it's got to be there...it isn't. It is hard to believe... Rick is a working "bio-mechanic". He actually didn't really "DO" anything, he simply eduacated me on my body's unique shape and movement needs, helped me understand how to move in a way that would eliminate pain. This isn't about belief, it is about information and movement mechanics. Rick also taught me several movement excercisies to help me strengthen specific muscles, to help re-enforce better long term movement patterns. I have had chronic back/leg/sciatic pain, and it had gotten so bad I could barely walk a block earlier this year. I was fed up with doctors and not getting help from chiropractic care or acupuncture. I started looking for other solutions and found the Fixing You:Back book on Amazon and ordered it, later realizing it was written by a physical therapist right here in Denver. I tried the stretches in the book and felt such instant relief that I made an appointment with Rick soon after working from his book. A few months later, I am nearly pain free without surgery or scary steroid shots! It's great to be back at yoga, walking my dog and doing all of the things I love! I highly recommend Rick Olderman for anyone who wants to feel better. He helped me fix the root of my back problems and he has given me the tools to help myself when I do feel pain. I have had mild to severe pain in my back and down through my knee for several years. I had seen a physical therapist a few years ago and didn't have much luck - I was told that I had tight hamstrings and needed to stretch more. After finally getting sick of being unable to walk, much less ride a bike or run, without pain, I called Body In Balance and started working with Lara. Lara was fantastic in helping me to learn where my issue(s) were and how to fix them. It took several months, and she was very patient with problems and slow progress I seemed to be making. I was most impressed by the fact that she was always willing to try something different or look into different reasons for my pain, if one exercise or attempt to treat it didn't seem to be working, and she never acted as though I just needed to "try harder" at what I'd been doing. Her willingness to keep exploring issues and ways to fix them was what really helped us to figure out the best path for healing and keeping me pain-free. Lara is a great therapist. Sadly, the owners of this business continue to illustrate extremely poor ethics when it comes to billing practices. A matter that should have been closed and that they should have resolved with their partners months and months ago is still creating havoc on my credit. They had a HORRIBLE accounting department - which they openly awknowledged - and moved to an outsourced billing. There are patients who fell through the cracks and they messed up a bunch of billings. Unfortunately, they have done nothing proactive to support patients whom this has happened and they have zero records on file that they can produce to illustrate any wrong-doing but have failed to contact the appropriate authorities to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, Lara is great - and her work is undermined by the poor back-office disorganization, shabby front-desk reception and unethical (and uncaring) owners to support hiccups in their accounting to resolve issues for former patients. If you go - keep a watchful eye on ALL your bills. But personally, there are other AMAZING therapists in the neighborhood where you can avoid the administrative hassles. read more

After many years of finding only short term relief from lower back pain and problems, I went to Body In Balance to find a solution for the cause of the pain, not just a treatment for the symptoms and spasms. Rick Olderman analyzed the problems I'd been having and after a couple of treatments, I was pain free and had adopted several easy exercises that keep me pain free in spite of a spondylolisthesis condition. Rick carefully explained the treatments and the results I could expect. He provided gentle, focused exercises that corrected bad habits in posture, walking and other ordinary movements that previously had exacerbated my lower back problems. In less than a month I was able to resume all my regular activities, moving with ease and pain free. I called Body in Balance after discovering the sports and orthopedic physical therapist, Rick Olderman, who wrote the book I was reading from Amazon was located there. The book is called Fixing you: Neck pain & Headaches. The right side of my neck and upper back/shoulder blade area is chronically tense and sore. This pain is also accompanied with headaches on the right side. Rick did a full evaluation of measurements and my movements and worked with me on correcting the problems. His list of exercises such as rocking horse and arm slides are helpful tips to follow during your daily routine. The videos Rick presents on his website and on YouTube are clear and well-executed so after seeing him you can go back and review what you learned. Also Rick taught my husband how to tape up my right shoulder blade which immediately gave relief to my neck and head. I have been in PT three times previously for chronic shoulder pain, which I've had for almost 20 years. Rick Olderman, the new owner of Body in Balance, finally helped me to be pain free. He correctly diagnosed the problem--my postural habits influenced by many years of dance and yoga--and taught me to correct my posture. It sounds so simple, but the previous 3 PTs all approached it in a similar way to each other, but different from Rick's approach, and it never really helped. I had also recently been through a traumatic event in my life, which wasn't helping, and Rick taught me techniques to prevent trauma manifesting physically--a real life improvement. Rick is amazing. After arthroscopic knee surgery, I was impatient to get back to working out and return to my everyday regimen. I had seen multiple physical therapists around Colorado and Body in Balance has been the best experience by far. Lara is extremely knowledgeable and offered me a variety of exercises to keep me on track and starting to feel like my old self. Rick Olderman is a teacher at heart. He has a deep understanding of how the body works and is gifted at communicating with his clients to empower them to fix the pain they experience. The videos and audio files he provides really helped me to implement the exercises at home. Rick listens, goes above and beyond for his clients, and truly has their best interests in mind. I have seen Mr. Olderman only three times, but he has managed to help me to fix the back pain I have been experiencing for the last six years. Prior to having children, I was a runner and coach. The therapists - particularly Lara - was highly recommended to me by a friend. After attempting to unsuccessfully connect with them 3x and find an appointment i have given up. The reception staff are not knowledgeable, uninterested in helping navigate through issues and I read the compliant below about billing - my friend that recommended Lara also said that they were an administratively "messy" and that the billings were continuously messed up. I drive by the offices regularly to work, and the place does appear to have good parking so easy to get to but there are too many good therapists in the hood where you don't have to deal with the administrative hassles of Body in Balance. Wow, these guys are great!! I started physical therapy because of some lower back issues I was having. Body in Balance has a little bit of a different feel and approach to things, and I love it! They focus on total body mechanics and are really good at helping you get rid of pain. You also spend the whole time working with the physical therapist instead of getting 5 minutes of face time only to be neglected the rest of the time like I have experienced at a much larger PT office. When I came to Body in Balance, I could not bend or walk on my right leg after my surgery. I was in so much pain. I didn't want to put any weight on my leg. Rick helped me heal a long-term, chronic ankle injury. After a history of ankle sprains and of constant (weekly and monthly) rolling of my ankle, Rick was the answer! I tore my Achilles tendon in March and had surgery. I started physical therapy twice a week with Rick six weeks later. Rick has an amazing understanding of how muscles and tendons work together. He customized my exercises to strengthen my muscles and used taping techniques to release stress on tendons that were overused due to the main muscles still being to weak.
