Atlas Stationers? Oh, you mean STATIONARY HEAVEN? On Sunday morning, all was quiet in the West Loop. Around 10 AM (a little after opening), I walked in & was surprised to find a vibrant little community of early-rising, stationery enthusiasts, just my kind of people. The store was lively but not crowded, so shopping was very comfortable and fun. First off, the staff here is PHENOMENAL! So kind, conversational, knowledgeable, helpful, & attentive. Possibly the best customer service I've ever received. If you're a stationary enthusiast or stationary-curious, this is a great place to be. I've seen this store's TikTok account before, so I expected it to be a big chain given its popularity, but it's actually a family-run business since 1939! They even have a nice online store you can check out. Everyone has their preferences, but this store checked all the boxes for me. On top of excellent service, they had an INSANE SELECTION! Stickers, pens, journals, leather journal covers, washi tape, and ALLLL the stationery goodies. The cost is comparable to other stores (online & otherwise), which is great. They even offer frequent events & workshops. Stores like Topdrawer are very popular, but they just never spoke to me. Atlas Stationers is a gem that I can't rave about enough. What a treasure trove for stationery enthusiasts and/or folks who just love writing! A huge wall section dedicated to stickers and washi tapes and so much variety of fountain pens! Lots of journals as well. Ngl was a little overwhelmed by the large selection lol but there was a good amount of friendly staff walking around offering assistance. If you weren't completely obsessed with this place, I have to wonder, do you even like stationary? Because the selection, prices, and service at Atlas cannot be beat. I live 90 minutes away, and this was on my must-do list for my trip to Chicago. I'm so glad that I finally made it here! When I was a child, I was completely obsessed with the scented Sanrio markers. Overtime, I discovered that I enjoyed journaling, and have been very selective regarding pens and paper. Atlas has it all. Maybe not Hello Kitty, grape-scented markers, but literally everything else that a nerdy pen-and-paper-obsessed person could want. I brought my 13 year old, for whom most things are *eyeroll* boring and she didn't want to leave. The washi tape and sticker area had her plotting collages and teen-angst journaling for days. For me, it was the ability to check out the pens. Of course they are known for the fabulous and gorgeous selection of fountain pens and ink. But I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet. I am talking about the regular pens. Ballpoint, felt tip, colorful, plain, all sizes of points and inks and all wonderfully curated. And you can try them all. And here is the thing: for this level of service and attention you would think it would be too pricey, but it wasn't this is part of the reason I will keep coming back. I bought my first Montegrappa pen on a whim, drawn in by the beautiful resin. Because the resin varies quite a bit, the pen I received didn't quite match the website photos. Ever since I found out I was visiting Chicago, I've wanted to visit Atlas Stationers. I heard about it through a podcast and it just seemed like such a great place to visit, and it was! There's a palpable energy throughout the store, and it's saying something that on a Tuesday morning, there were people waiting outside the store for when they opened. They've got such a great variety of pens, pencils, inks, cases, washi, notebooks, inserts, accessories...it's really a great one-stop shop for all things stationery. They also have a guest book to sign, and I was able to witness a livestream in action, which was pretty cool. Some things to highlight include the wide array of fountain pens available (plus a peak at their fountain pen bracket - yay for the 823!), a well-stocked supply of Galen Leather products (one of my favorites), shelves of washi tape, an entire 2 areas dedicated to Hobonichi, a wall of notebooks, and a pen station in the middle of the store. There's a lot more, but those were the things that caught my eye. They also have an area for Atlas exclusives, but it was empty when I came. I found it odd that they don't have a store stamp - most other stationery shops I've been to have one, and I was looking forward to stamping my notebook, but oh well. They have store stickers, so I got one of those instead! Great service as well - I recommend signing up for their rewards program, too. Definitely worth a visit! Since I flew all the way from Atlanta to Chicago in August for the annual sidewalk sale, then I have to give them a 5 star review. It rained the first day of the sale, and they were wonderfully prepared and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Great selection of pens and stationery supplies. I've been buying fountain pens a little shy of two years and I don't think I'll ever write with a standard pen again. They had an ink swap the first day of the sale, and I was able to walk away with a zip loc bag full of ink samples. it was a lot of fun meeting the owners and their mother. Its a family owned business and you leave with the feeling that they are happily moving forward with the family legacy . read more

I visited Chicago for the day, from Ohio. The focus of the trip was Atlas Stationers. I follow them on social media and knew I needed to experience the store in person. It did not disappoint. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and engaging. The vibe was relaxed, with fantastic music (I danced while testing pens, lol) and inspired browsing. Never did I feel rushed. I looked at almost every shelf and made hard decisions because there was so much to choose from. When it was time to check out I braced myself for the total and was pleasantly surprised. Atlas is about half the reason I drive up from Cincinnati a couple of times a year. They had exactly the kind of European pens I was looking for. I have found a new source for stationery and pens! I enjoy writing love letters and poem to my wife (who will forever also be my girlfriend...). I had found Papyrus stationery after we met; they no longer make the kind of paper I like using, so I've been looking around for replacement. I'd prefer Made in USA, and can't find any that are light blue with deckled edged... deckled is apparently the term that describes paper that looks like it was not cut but was gently torn along the crease. Thankfully I found that Original Crown Mill papers have been Made in Belgium (source of our family's name) since the late 1400s... and they are still made there... and they have deckled paper in light blue, cream, grey, pink, and white... - in paper (A4 paper - 5.75 x 8.25, to be folded before putting into the envelopes) - and in cards (4 x 6; fit the envelopes unfolded) AND Atlas Stationers in Chicago carries Original Crown Mill. We were visiting Chicago in September and I hoped to visit Atlas Stationers in person, but we left just a little too late. The next thing you know it's Black Friday... I wasn't even thinking about the date when I called. Keri provided great phone help, providing me confidence in the light blue and white Original Crown Mill paper & cards (both with enveloped) that I ordered. Keri also helped me order a fountain pen - a Lamy (made in Germany), with a regular nib and blue ink, and I also purchased a wider nib for calligraphy. Keri was great help answering many questions and... providing me the Black Friday discount that I hadn't expected when I called. Thankfully I ordered multiple boxes. I have been a customer at at Atlas for 15 years, and it has been pleasure watching the shop adapt, change, and remain vital when other shops are closing. The fountain pen inventory is extensive, and you can tell every single staff person loves the product they sell and wants to show you. All of my pens save for one come from Atlas - among them my favorite - Conklin Durograph in Orange Nights. And their Fountain Pen Day prices made the hauls bigger. Great stationery supply store with mostly friendly service. I first visited in late 2021 (coincidentally when John Lane of Visconti was visiting), because my Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Ages needed fixing after the original sellers (not Atlas) were no help. Atlas stationers spent 5 hours (no charge) finding out what was wrong with my pen. That day, they earned a lifelong customer with their 5-star selection and service. I've preferentially bought from them ever since. Prices are reasonable for the quality of product you're looking for. Then, I visited again in early 2024 hoping to find the same kind of service. This time, there was less hustle and bustle (as the holiday season was over), and yet I found the new staff aloof. I will still buy from Atlas, but I wish the staff wouldn't act as though my questions about products and advice on stationery-based graduate school graduation gift ideas were a waste of their time. I only had the opportunity to look in the window then, but I always a remember an intriguing stationary shop for later. In the meantime, I placed an order for a really stunning Pelikan Classic K200 Ballpoint Pen - Golden Beryl (Special Edition) online with Atlas and at a very good price. Finally! I'd been eyeballing them on social media for months and planned my recent fall trip route to go right through downtown Chicago just to visit them. Let's just dispense with the formalities, parking anywhere near here is absurd! Not the store's fault, but worth noting for those planning to drive here. They have such a cool storefront, right from the get-go. They've been located right in this area for several decades. Huge selection of everything to fit your stationery heart. Fountain pens from many brands. An ink collection to rival that of even the most extensive online store. This includes a wonderful swatch book to compare inks and buy your favorite. There's a massive selection of paper and notebooks. They'll let you test almost any pen, ink, or paper. I didn't even make it to the huge board games section filling about 1/3 of their space. I came in primarily for the Hobonichi Techou collection. Though it had been pretty well picked over, I did find the perfect journal for me. I wish any fanatic the best of luck in getting out of here for under $50. I personally came prepared to spend quite a bit - goal achieved! I'd be remiss not to close on the fact that this is a family company. Family owned since the day it first opened.
