Went walking around Lakeview and Inkling's unique items caught my eye from the window. There are quite a bit of cute and quirky items that have some personality. When you're thinking about holiday gifting items, there's a great variety of decor, trinkets, and jewelry to consider. It can be a bit visually overwhelming to look at everything, but it's well organized by content so it's very doable. The staff I interacted with were very kind and pleasant given it was a busy weekend. Prices aren't terrible, but everything is expensive these days. Will definitely be interested to see what Inkling has in store throughout the year! I'll be back to see :) read more

I've been here numerous times throughout the years and now that I physically live in Lakeview I did end up coming here much more frequently and always accompanied by my beautiful Great pyrenees. My most recent purchases were the adorable animal ceramic planters that the owner makes herself and they come with complimentary air plants which I think are a great match. I've bought kitchen towels, lip gloss, a cute vintage candy dish and lots of sage and incense. I've always found the staff here to be very sweet and anxious to help but whenever the owner herself helps I definitely felt like my business here wasn't welcomed. The last time I walked in here with the intention of purchasing more incense but the owner confronted me asking me if my pyrenees was on his leash because if he wasn't it would be problematic. In all the thirty plus years I've owned mountain dogs; not once have I ever not used an appropriate collar and leash. I thought her question was insulting, combative and bizarre. She said lately her guests walk into her store with pets without any leash especially a woman who owns a pomeranian. I do agree with the owner that no one walking in here should have an unleashed pet; but I've always been a respectful and responsible pet owner and my dog is extremely sweet and well behaved. I just don't feel welcomed here as a shopper; it's clear the owner doesn't like me very much so I won't continue coming in here regardless of the nice finds. This is mainly a gift shop so perhaps you will have a positive shopping experience but I will cross this shop off my list moving forward. read more

After an hour of playing with the bunnies at Cuddle Bunny my daughter and her friend informed me on this cooler rainy Saturday that they would like to go shopping. I took a quick look on Yelp to see what was nearby that would be appropriate shoppings for 10 year old girls and discovered Inkling. And so we walked a few blocks in the rain ready to shop. Inking, as many other yelpers have said, is a cute little gift shop with a variety of things. The girls were immediately drawn to the rocks and jewelry and each picked out a pretty purple rock and a ring (which I'm pretty sure my daughter has lost since). Besides that there wasn't much there for them- besides some materials for art projects (ex: smelly markers), but nothing caught their eye. And while I could see myself finding something in the store if looking for a special gift for someone (bday, hostess, etc) I didn't see anything I really needed either. The woman working there was pleasant once I engaged her, but barely looked up to say hi when we walked in the store. And we were the only people in the store, which did make for a good pandemic shopping experience. I may stop in again if in the area and have a feeling there will be more bunny cuddling in our future, but probably wouldn't be a shopping destination on it's own. read more

The first boutique I really liked when walking around Broadway looking for Christmas gifts. The items are unique and adorable. I found a pair of socks for my friend, which was a forest scene that says "I f-ing love it here!" It reminded me of how he describes his favorite place. If that isn't perfect, I don't know what is! I saw many more things I want to get so I'll be back for sure! read more

This store is my first stop whenever I need a card or gift! They just have so much cute stuff, you'll definitely find something for any person. The store had sage, essential oil's, crystals, etc. I am so glad I found this place. Yay Yay Yay for affordable local art!! This adorable little artsy boutique seems to specialize in handcrafted arts and crafts from local artists that are perfect for gifts, or the little pick-me-up we all need some days. (I snagged a gorgeous $8 blue glass bracelet for myself today : ) Stand outs for me were the silk scarves, awesome greeting cards, lots of funky/funny cat paraphernalia, sheets of wrapping paper in AWESOME designs for $3.50, photo albums and concert ticket scrapbooks, jewelry, candles, stationary and thank you cards, silly erasers and notepads, and artwork. I had a chance to speak with the owner, who could not have been sweeter, and she explained she will have a wall of rotating artists featured. How cool! I discovered this from Chicago Now's website, the owner plans to hold DIY art workshops with local artists featuring screen-printing, embroidery, and linoleum block carving (which, may I add, is super fun). This great little boutique is perfect for finding just the right gift for any gal, and they even had a Father's Day table. Bases covered! I can run in for a present, having no idea what I might actually get, and come out with a treat to make any friend feel cared about. I also love to run in just for a pick me up for myself. totally cute little shop. Some interesting cards but nothing really that stood out to me. I loved the wrapping paper and the build your own terrarium. they also have jewelry and some beauty items- soap and lipbalm. the store is nicely laid out, reminds me of someones etsy store and pinterest board. I know that my mum would love it, lots of engaging things to look at and spend time with. Dont go in thinking its a paper or card store, is my recommendation. I like the use of the space a lot with each corner having something new/ different going on. Ill be back! read more

I adore little boutiques like Inkling. You can easily find something for yourself or a gift here. It's a good place for a Chicago-centric gift, whether it's jewelry, magnets, or art prints, instead of a kitsch souvenir. Or you can get something really unique like a little cat-shaped ceramic planter, hand made by a local artist. Inkling is one of a few shops that also carries Tokyo Milk perfumes and hand creams. The gin & rosewater scent is my absolute favorite fresh scent! The perfumes are reasonably priced and also are a nice way to "treat yourself." Sage, oils, and other smelly goods are sold here too. Although the space isn't huge, everything is displayed really well and I didn't feel squished while shopping. read more

This little card shop was the cutest thing ever! We were causally browsing shops all day for birthday cards, hoping to find ones that grabbed our attention...which is exactly what happened here. Their selection of cards was immense and the sayings/images on the cards were hilarious! You just have to be willing to spend about $5, which is less than papyrus cards but obviously pricier than ones from a drugstore. They also had some amazing candles, inexpensive jewelry and last minute gifty things. The store may be small but it's merch packs a punch! If you find yourself in need of a card that will make someone LOL or are in the area and have some time to peruse, stop into Inkling! read more

This is one of the coolest stores I have ever stepped foot in. They have everything from wine for cats to fancy wrapping paper to crystals to magnets. I probably could have walked around the store 100 times and discovered something new each time. The owner has curated an incredible selection of local products, art, etc along with other quirky things. They even have a build your own terrarium station. This shop is the epitome of adorable and cuteness. The products that they make are my ultimate favorites. My girlfriend never fail to express her appreciation for the presents that I give to her that were purchased in this shop. She thinks that my gifts are lovely, particularly the one that I just gave to her recently. They consistently stock a wide range of unique and artistic greeting cards, as well as crystal and a variety of other gift options. Additionally, the cashier was very kind and helpful as well! I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to find this store. This makes it much easier for me to purchase presents for a variety of occasions. I just need to run in here for a present, even though I have no idea what I will end up getting, because simply looking at their display helps you easily decide what to purchase. You say stationery shop and I say more. Not only a great place for cards and gifts, an excellent resource for posters and art prints. This shop is to Chicago artists as Quimby's is to zines. Okay? I am a guy with a beard who listens to music your mother wouldn't like and so forth and I have three WONDERFUL posters up on my walls from this place. They carry the ever elusive Octophant! It always smells nice in there. The owner is the sweetest person I've met. There is something for everybody, everybody who has time to look. Further proof that Lakeview is once of the finest neighborhoods in Chicago. $$ because, though you can enter with a dollar and leave happy, Inkling also serves as an art gallery, and original prints can be a little pricey (a mark of their quality). read more

I do miss living less than a block from this perfect little store. If you're my friend, you will at some point in our relationship receive a gift from Inkling. Stephanie throws her full support behind local artists and craftsmen, and I throw my full support behind her. I never fail to find something that I *absolutely must have*, whether it be a $1 pin for my messenger bag, a silk scarf, a skeleton cameo, or a hilarious card. And I pine for the art that graces the walls, even though it's largely out of my price range. On a similar note: if you sign up for their mailing list, you'll be notified of neat little parties that they throw to celebrate a new exhibition. Inkling is an excellent addition to the community that will hopefully find lasting success! read more

*Made ya look! I am joking. 5 stars! I give Inkling high marks one- for it's lasting power- I hate to say this but I am always afraid indie shops will *poof* vanish. And with them my style. At Inkling I find items that are "just right." Check out their jewelry and prints (real ones, made by print makers not China). A little faux gem in a squirrel suit! A true treasure. I stopped by Inkling on a Saturday morning looking to purchase a father's day card. I was blown away by the very obvious care that goes into choosing the handcrafted art, paper goods and gifts that fill up this brightly colored shop. The artists are local and all the cards I looked at were funky, original and really fun. The shop owner was very friendly and had a lot of great information to share about the artists. She was very enthusiastic and it was clear to me that she has a real love for what she does. The pricing was very reasonable and I ended up walking away with a gorgeous floral headband ($14), a vintage cowboy boot vase ($10) and cards all priced under $4. The neatest thing about this store is that she has a great selection of goods for men, women and kids. It's cool to know I can go to a cute gift shop and find a present for my husband or even bring my husband along and know he'd have plenty to look at. From what I've seen online she is going to feature different artists in her shop and also hold craft night workshops on a variety of styles. I have a friend's birthday coming up and I already can't wait to go back and see what I can find at Inkling. read more
