They have a really great social community, and every single person is welcome. There are no clicks or mean girls/boys clubs. COACHING: The coaches are put through a rigorous & extremely detailed knowledge-base program before being allowed to coach a class. The also have a ramp up period before being able to coach on their own. The owners take pride in their coaching staff...and it shows in the quality of coaches they hand pick to lead the classes. The coaches all come a variety of background and are quite an eclectic bunch. You're bound to find a coach(s) that you vibe with no matter what! The owners come from military backgrounds & are some of the best humans out there! You can really feel how genuine they are & how much they care about that hour being the very best hour of your day! They are attentive, supportive, caring and are SUPER hands on. Tod, Jake & Jordan always making sure you're form is on point and they love to teach. You will learn something new everyday if you're open to it. PROGRAMMING: Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a beginner just starting out, they will tailor your workout to your specific goals and needs. All the workouts can easily be scalable. What I love most about the program is it's super sustainable, science backed & stems from decades of knowledge in health & fitness. I also love the variety in the training blocks & you'll never get bored! FACILITY: It's top-notch!!!! Soo much space, which is really hard to find in Austin. Each person has their own sections (rack, barbell, bench, etc) which is something you really wont find anywhere else. It's nice to have your own section and the space needed where you don't feel like you're on top of the person next to you. Atomic might be one of the only gyms in Austin that has all of the equipment in like-new condition. You wont be working out on an old rusty barbell or broken down plates here. Red-faced, with bloodshot eyes, and a barbell on my back clad with 10 plates. I imagine it'd be one of my proudest moments of my training career. . . . Involuntary BMs aside . . . If you're looking to set some new personal records of your own (or just looking for a great community to train with) - these guys have what it takes to get you where you want to go (and far beyond). Whether you're a competitive cyclist, back-country hunter, martial artist, powerlifter, trail runner, warfighter, or just a normal guy or gal who fancies mimosas on the weekends (and sometimes Friday mornings) . . . I've been going to Atomic for 7 years. There's isn't a better gym. This isn't a globo gym or Planet Fitness. They create the best workout programs that will push you. You'll get stronger and faster. Atomic Athlete: take all my money! I am a huge tightwad and was reluctant to even attend a free week, suspecting I'd really like it and not be able to justify the expense compared to my $40/mo membership at the time. That was four years ago. I'm still training at Atomic, and I love it. 1. These guys know what they're doing. I've been to gyms in the past where I could tell the instructors didn't understand the science behind what they were doing or seemed to be making things up on the fly. All of the workouts follow a progression and have a purpose. Plus, the coaches are great at instructing new movements, correcting form, and pushing athletes individually. It's so nice to be able to walk into a class without having to plan my own workouts. 2. I'm in the best shape of my life. I love the variety in the workouts at Atomic, and am waaaay stronger and faster (and harder to kill) than I was four years ago. read more

This gym has been my home away from home for 3 years. I joined after months of pleasantly persistent "it'll be fun to do together" nudges from my boyfriend and I'm glad I gave in. I've always been fit but also pretty stubborn. I was happy with my body, but my mental fitness was MIA. The coaches have constantly pushed me and I've never been more proud of my abilities. Granted, there are still days I show up and get my ass kicked because I'm not eating/ sleeping/ feel depressed/ my shoulders hurt, etc; those are the days that make you. Leave your ego at the door, everyone suffers together...suffers HARD. But it's an amazing feeling- no feeling sorry for yourself. It's training, not working out. There are 4-6 week cycles that focus on improving different areas (your strength, stamina, or work capacity); every session has a purpose. That's the answer to WHY do I need to do this? My wife and I are not used to this type of training modality, but we come here occasionally to challenge ourselves and try something new and fun. I come from a BJJ background, and my wife from a dance background. While we are both total newbs, we are never made to feel out of place, or less worthy of being here. In fact, the coaches take EXTRA time to either help us get the technique down, or modify the exercise into something less technical until we come up the learning curve. The regular athletes here are super friendly, inclusive, and encouraging as well. Don't get me wrong, the programs here are intense - but you can clearly feel the community working together, and trying to help each other become the best they can be. read more

A horrible place, run by ugly and unpleasant, to not say unprofessional people. I visited this box 1 year ago, something today reminded me of the experience. I asked about the gym and was looked at up and down and ignored. I waited and tried to ask the person some questions and they said that I would have to take 1 month of olympic lifting if I wanted to join. How did they know whether I knew olympic lifting or not? I asked about joining and I was told curtly to go to the website. I wrote to the owners, bar people apparently, they never responded. I wonder why? LOVE THIS GYM! I am more and more impressed by Atomic Athlete every time I go. KNOWLEDGABLE COACHES - they know their shit! And are able to identify weaknesses and help you achieve your goals TAILORED TRAINING- they have developed a way tailor group workouts to fit individual needs, which is very difficult to do. (In my experience, most crossfit style gyms have a one size fits all WOD, but Atomic does not ignore everyones unique physiology) STRUCTURED - they have an effective training philosophy and system. Their white board workout chart is a bit difficult to understand at first but it's very well thought out, not just thrown together 5 minutes before class. GREAT ATMOSPHERE - most of the coaches are ex US military. Great comaraderie and discipline create a fun training atmosphere and strong sense of community and support. Atomic is for everyone. I would def recommend this gym to anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. read more

Embrace the suck. If you can't wrap your head around that, this may not be the place for you. I have been a member of Atomic Athlete for about 2 and a half years now. Everything about Atomic deserves 5 stars in my opinion. From the coaches, to the programming, to the athletes that train there. With that said, it certainly isn't for everybody. We do not have air conditioning. The sound track will vary from showtunes to death metal. The conversations will not be PC. The coaching may not always be PG-13. If you are looking for an alternative to other gyms in the Austin area, are ready to work hard and want to meet some genuinely good people, put on your big boy/big girl pants and head on over for an orientation. Hands down the best gym in town! The coaches are true masters of their craft and genuinely care about their athletes well-being and progress. The community is TOP NOTCH - everyone is super supportive and encouraging of each other, it honestly feels more like a big team. My workouts at Atomic are easily my favorite part of the day. I love not having to think about what I'm going to do in the gym or whether it's effective. The coaches at Atomic take program development very seriously and I know everything we do is backed by sound principles and planned in advance, with progress measurement and adjustments made a long the way. Daily sessions are clearly displayed and explained making it easy to follow along and get the work done. I also really love that even though I'm almost 40 there's still very much a place for me here. I may have to modify some things and I may not be the fastest or strongest but none of that ever matters. Jake, Todd, Jordan, and the mullet wearing Brittain are excellent owner operators and coaches. I have been attending 3x days a week for 2.5 years now and have lost 35lbs, my previous excuses to skip a workout, and their programs have fostered a new lifestyle for me. Even with injury, they'll take the time to sort you out with a custom routine that day. I have learned more in 2.5 years about my ability, body, and how to train, than I did the previous 10 years. Thanks for the knowledge and challenges boys. I can now bust out a workout on the road in 60 minutes that would've taken me 1.5 hrs previously and is twice as challenging. It took me awhile to make the switch to Atomic. I was intimidated by the general badassity of the place. But after an injury that just wasn't healing at my good ol' local CF facility I knew I needed to suck it up and pay Atomic a visit. Atomic has always had the reputation of solid programming and coaching. These guys are all-out geeks about it. Nothing and I mean nothing is without design. My first visit was an observation, after which the coach geeked out about programming for nearly 2 hours. He simply oozed a passion and knowledge for this stuff. 3 years later I can say without any hesitation that the Coaches still ooze passion, geekery and genuine care about programming & coaching. I know I can ask a coach anything about WHY we are doing something and get a genuine answer. Today I'm stronger, more confident in my movement and am all around a more physically capable human being (not to mention I have leaned and toned up like never before - hello sexy naked!). The only regret I have was not making the switch sooner - I just might have saved myself from that injury in the first place. Oh and that intimidation that kept me away for so long, completely 100% unfounded! No one cares how strong, fast or capable you are. Having traditionally weight trained for 20+ years at standard style gyms, and now training in mixed martial arts (Brazilian jujitsu, thai boxing, and Krav Maga); I needed a better and more interesting way to increase physical and mental strength so I tried a 1 hour class at Atomic Athlete, and boy did I get a workout!! The gentleman of Atomic have engineered a structured training program with specific goals for strengthening the human body in ways that benefit athletes. The coaches are very nurturing for the beginner, which I was despite my prior traditional gym experience, and the pace is controlled by you so there's no pressure to push yourself further than you're comfortable with; these men just simply encourage and guide you to maximize your effort. I am a 45-year-old rower who started training with Atomic this past spring as a way to build my overall strength and work out the imbalances that come with (age and) doing a sport that relies solely on lateral movement. I am so glad I found this gym! The coaches are great - sticklers about good form, know how to motivate clients to train at the target effort level for the day's workout, and always explain the "why's" and "what's" of the day's workouts. Every part of a session has a purpose; there are no junk segments ever. I also appreciate their focus on core strength and "durability" (focus on strengthening those small, stabilizing muscles that keep you from getting injured). An unexpected benefit of training here is the mental fitness that comes with doing new moves, some rather complex. I should also add that the other folks who train at Atomic are pretty awesome - friendly, supportive and welcoming of all newcomers (regardless of strength / initial ability). I added that last because it can be a little intimidating to walk in and see how strong everyone is, but all anyone cares about is your attitude.
