Also, in the beginning communication from family to staff, to different shifts wasn't perfect, but every one desired to and worked to improve it. However, I am very grateful for the care and attention my mother received while staying at Windsor. The most important thing for me was the care and kindness of the staff. It is truly commendable that people who are essentially strangers are willing to take on any task, from cleaning a patient, dressing them, helping them get around and even tending to their bathroom needs and many other things. I'm sorry if I leave out some names, but I must thank Mitch, (assistant head of nursing) who has a beautiful spirit, Robyn (social worker par excellance) Bastian and Raquel (physical and occupational therapy) very professional and fun, the wonderful, upbeat Sandy (activities), nurse Jesse and also nurses Mikaela and Heidi, assistant nurses Bhagmattie, Ms. Serum and Micheline (tough names). For two months straight I had cold pancakes, cold scrambled eggs and one sausage. Two if I was lucky. Oatmeal which I did not eat. Lunch wasn't much better. An unrecognizable meat, veggies and mashed potatoes. Sometimes one, two or all three were cold. Dinner was much of the same. That is not to say that there were a few good meals. Real chicken and fish. Spoke to Dietary a few times about the food. Things would change for a day or two then fall back to the usual fare. Staffing. They always seem to be working short-staffed. Especially the 3pm to 11pm shift. There would be only two CNAs and no nurse or supervisor on duty. Less staff means a longer wait when you use the call bell. Supplies seem to be limited to a certain number per patient (3 - 11 shift). The staff is always scrounging for supplies. I found the day shift to be the best (7am - 3pm). I found them to be the most caring. You could tell who was there because of the paycheck and who was there for the patients. I all of the staff could use a refresher course in privacy and sensitivity. We are all not deaf or senile. Because we are in the facility does not mean that we list our minds when we came through the door. I would keep my curtain closed and the daytime nurse had a habit of just pulling the curtain open without warning. I finally had to speak on it. I just wanted a heads up. The therapy that I received was great. Physical and Occupational. I came in not standing let alone walking. My overall experience was a good one because I evolved as a person. The administratiive staff would go to great lengths to solve any issue you might have. There are better and worse facilities and I have been in both. If they would change the food (temperature and variety), retrain the staff, hire more staff and increase supply amounts, they could possibly give other facilities a run for their money. They just need to spend some money to make effective changes.

Her room was sunny with her own television, bathroom and small refrigerator. She was well taken care of by the New Homestead staff including case managers Shamenie and Felicia and her beloved aides Jasmine and Hannah. She looked forward to seeing them and they doted on her. They were also very loving to me as well. Jamilah arranged her transportation to and from doctor's appointments and the times she had to go to the hospital. They were always in touch with me and the director Steven could not have been more reassuring, compassionate and responsive to any of my questions and requests. I did not worry about her there. Yes, they could use an upgrade in carpets and even the menu but none of that is a complaint because Peace of mind is everything.

Old shoes, coats, polo shirts, cargo shorts and touristy T-shirts have a purpose again. If you're reading this review, keep them in mind when you're looking at a pile of clothes you don't wear anymore. Bring it here and ask for "Effie" and she'll make sure it gets distributed.

I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

I have filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office and I will be taking Flushing House to court. His toenails had turned deep yellow from the fungus they let fester there. He had no cane. They couldn't find his hearing aid which he is completely dependent on and affects his balance. Someone claimed they give him walks, his legs have Peripheral Artery Disease and they had large swollen bubbles of possibly retained water. My partner seemed groggy, distant and depressed. They have a yard but the place is like an abusive prison. What kind of assisted living place keeps a deaf man for 12 days without a hearing aid. My guess is one with no doctors or much medical staff. Skip this jail. If you know of someone here, pull a Shawshank redemption and break them out. They claim to charge $3,800 a month for this place. WHO are they kidding!!! Notice there's almost no pictures and their activities calendar stopped in 2017 !! It's not an assisted living facility, it's a warehouse.
