Great place to live, it is first class all the way. The food is awesome, great exercise programs and residents are friendly and welcoming .

My husband was admitted to this facility post open heart surgery. From the first night, his 14 day stay was unpleasant. The first night, he slept on a bed that squeaked when the mattress moved and had a sheet on it that didn't fit so it kept coming off. To top it off, the room's air conditioner wasn't working. It was hot as hell! Maintenance had to come in and blow down the line! WHY WASN'T THIS TAKEN CARE OF BEFOREHAND?!?!?! So of course, our first impression of this place was in the negative BIGLY at this point!! When he arrived, there were NO MEDICATIONS FOR HIM!! He was admitted on a Friday and his medications didn't arrived until SUNDAY!! This caused him to go over 24 hours without medications!! As the days passed by, we both noticed there was a medication that wasn't being given. Ironically, one of the nurses told us that they took that same medication....what?!?! And so we get home with the leftover medications given at discharge and there was ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THAT PARTICULAR MEDICATION!!! There wasn't even a medication card from the pharmacy for that medication!! If he didn't receive medication for 2 days and medication ordered was for a minimum of 14 days and there were at least 2-3 days missed of this medication, there should've been leftovers of this one particular medication, right?!?! There were 2 other medications that the dosage was changed 5 days after his admittance. There was no leftovers of the old dosage....NONE!!!! Then one of those medications had directions from the pharmacy that at least 3 nurses misinterrupted!! It came down to a nurse having to call the pharmacy for clarity!! Now let's talk about discharge..... I spoke with the social worker on Tuesday, May 25th about the process of discharge. Because we lived out of town from Houston, I knew the coordination of medication prescriptions had to be precise. So he told me to get him the pharmacy where we wanted the prescriptions "called in"...we all know that dr's don't call in prescriptions these days...but his words were: if I don't get with you tomorrow (Wed May 26th) you find me!! He told me "as soon as you get me the pharmacy, the prescriptions will be called in". [[HIGHLIGHT]]So Wednesday morning, I sat in the main sitting area and finally saw him come out of his office area and HANDED HIM A PIECE OF PAPER WITH: 1) pharmacy 2) request for order for a walker to be sent to the facility bc I knew our home address was out of the range of any equipment business in Houston 3) request for records from my husband's stay bc he's on long term disability and needs those![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew that as soon as meds were submitted to the pharmacy, I would get a text from the pharmacy. I waited the rest of Wednesday. I waited all day Thursday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every time I saw the social worker, I'd ask him what the status was. His words were always "I'm taking care of it". And then there's the "hospitality" person...young girl who talked to us like we were teenagers using all of her Gen Z dialogue. Always said she'd take care of things LOL. She's as useless as the social worker[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Thursday, husband had a follow up with his surgeon at 9:45am. We didn't get back to the facility until about 12:30 bc of the lengthy appointment. About 30minutes after we got back, social worker comes to our room and tells me he LOST THE PAPER I GAVE HIM!!! I told him I knew he'd do that. He asked why and I said because when I gave it to him, he was with 2 other people and he took it and put it somewhere on his body!! So everything that was written on it was either not done or done incorrectly. The order for the walker had our home address. The equipment business only had our home address so they couldn't fulfill the order and CANCELED THE ORDER!! The social worker was holding of the hand of another patient being admitted, something we saw nothing of, and kept telling me he couldn't take care of this issue at the moment. Said he'd messaged the equipment business. Little did he know that I had contacted the business and they said he to submit a new order!! All the while he'd told us this order was submitted on Wednesday....LIES, LIES, LIES. On the morning of discharge, we still had no walker delivered. As of this writing, the order still shows it's not been delivered so I canceled both orders. I can't stomach incompetence. All they have to do is DO THEIR JOB!! Nurses aren't comprehending medication orders. Social worker can't multi-task. Hospitality girl gives hope of nothing. Therapy wasn't too bad, even though he didn't get the "5 days a week" they said would happen. Before we left the hospital, I was visited by a sales rep who told me "we'll feed you" when I asked about staying with him. The day before his discharge, I got a visit from a dietary person who wanted me to pay $360! The only good thing I have to say is that I was able to stay with my husband. I hope he never has to be in a SNF again but if he does, it won't be this one!!! read more

I am still haunted by the level of care I received during my two months at the Buckingham. I opted to go there for recovery and physical therapy after a serious automobile injury. What I did not realize was that skilled nursing and rehab are housed within the same facility, and the majority of patients are fragile elderly who actually live there full time. Most do not ever leave their beds, let alone their rooms. I felt completely alone--no one to talk to and the few wretched "activities" poorly organized, staffed and attended. The facility is indeed attractive and well maintained with pleasant common areas and dining room (90% empty at meal times). My room was very nice, with two large windows that overlooked greenery. The food was decent and occasionally quite good. With the exception of an excellent PT staff, the quality of care was sub-par and I fear the same as almost all these places. I did, however, expect more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When admitted I was not greeted by admissions staff or given any indication how the facility was run.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was several days before PT was initiated. The nursing staff consists of one nurse on duty at any one time for half a floor. The number of aides varies depending on how many patients are filling rooms. At the worst of times there was only one per half floor, approximately 30 rooms. It was not unusual to wait an hour for help out of bed. As soon as I was well enough to start doing things for myself, I was completely ignored-- bed unmade unless I made it myself, sheets not changed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When asking a medical question of a nurse I often got the reply, "I don't know; I'm only a nurse".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One nurse was green as grass, another freely admitted she wished she wasn't there and knew she was treating her patients accordingly. Nurses and aides would talk on their personal cell phones or listen to broadcasts on them while working. The "doctor" was a medical professional who made rounds once a week with a perfunctory, "So how are we doing today?". The nurse practitioner visited twice a week and was on call the other times. Any of my queries had to go through her. While she was empathetic I found it hard to put faith in her diagnoses. There were mistakes made with medications. Instructions for cleaning wounds were not followed. My blood pressure was running high for a month before I figured out I was not being given my blood pressure medication. Worst of all was being woken up at 5 AM to have my vitals checked "to make sure you are not dead", to be followed shortly thereafter by an aide turning the lights full on to empty wastebaskets before her shift ended. Meals brought to the room were at 7:30, 11:30 and 4:30 and almost always cold. You were expected to be in bed at 8PM so the carousing in the common areas could begin--laughing and talking among the aides and nurses with complete disregard for sleeping patients. I also had the misfortune of being right above the generator. When that kicked in (at the slightest flicker of power) the noise was horrific. In conclusion I will repeat that PT, although only one hour a day Monday-Friday, was stellar, with the PT staff actually helping beyond their jobs (to get the tv fixed, the heater fixed, socks that fit, etc.). They put together the walker I ordered and altogether helped me get out of the Buckingham as soon as was possible! read more

This review is for the skilled nursing facility. Nonexistent communication, multiple instances of missed medications, staff lacking empathy, left in bed over night for 13+ hours (on many occasions). I was not the patient, but am a family member of the patient. The food appeared to be ok - lots of variety, lots of heavy, fatty foods though. As bad as our experience was I feel this place is probably still in the upper 25% of "care" (I use that word ironically). Scary thought for what the others are like. read more

WARNING- When we arrived, I thought the staff were simply unprepared for us. I was wrong. The staff were ALWAYS completely unprepared. Over three days, the staff could not get my father's medication right. When my father had blood in his urine while there, the nurses ran away and could not be found to assist in contacting a doctor. 10 hrs we waited before leaving. The nurse had never contacted a doctor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most of the nurses do not speak English well enough to be helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are NO SUPERVISORS available by phone or in person.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To leave the facility, I had to go get a wheelchair to take my father out of this place by myself- no help from the Buckingham staff- and got him to the emergency room. We lived there for a year. During that time, we had a number of maintenance issues which could not be resolved. In addition, many of the activities which are claimed to occur do not actually happen. This with other factors too numerous to mention caused us to leave. afterwards we had to actively push the Buckingham to get our buy-in back despite the contract guarantee. in addition, they continued to deductible our monthly payment from our account for two months after we left. We continue to fight to get those charges refunded. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the big problems is that there is no communication - emails, texts and phone calls are not returned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We are now considering a lawyer and legal action. read more

I was in the Buckingham assisted living for three weeks recuperating from double pneumonia. The facility is very nice, attractive, clean, with spacious rooms. The quality of care was excellent. I was especially impressed with the physical therapy operation. The therapists were knowledgably and pleasant. I was impressed with the therapy routines have gone to the YMCA for exercise classes for 10+ years. As final note. The food was excellent, much better than you would expect in an assisted living facility. This facility is ascetically designed and most of the staff was nice......[[HIGHLIGHT]]On the other hand the business office personnel are lacking on every level![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My mother was taken there without my knowledge curtesy of Memorial Herman Northwest Hospital. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The manager, social workers, doctors, and nurses NEVER answered my calls nor any questions or concerns regarding my mother.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To this day I have no idea why she was taken to this facility and what type of "CARE" she was given. Rude staff. Considered bringing my loved one here after a hospital stay to recuperate. The admissions team member Christina is RUDE and CONDESCENDING in her attitude. No empathy for family who is already going through a hard time, a really poor representation of the facility. The nursing team was very professional and supportive but Christina needs to learn first empathy and respect for families of potential residents. I don't even want to give this place a single star. I cannot even describe how bad the skilled nursing unit is. It is nothing like they describe. Expect the absolute minimum level of care and NOTHING is treated with a sense of urgency. There's little to no actual rehab. Some staff are kind but many are very rude. Patients are left alone for long periods of time. When you call for assistance, it can take up to an hour for someone to respond. It's just awful. And scary. read more

The Buckingham is a beautiful facility and the main staff seem friendly and courteous. However the Skilled Nursing operation located within the main building is a different story. The care level I would rate a C- at best due to sparse staffing and staff members who have a less than caring attitude about their sick and aging patients. My father became downright angry with one of the male orderlies who was less than careful when removing him to and from his bed. The food was decent I suppose, but they kept taking my fathers meals and turning them into some kind of unappealing mash. Dad was located right next to the nurses station which was always noisy for some reason even during the evening hours which made it very hard for him to sleep. They didn't seem to care about that aspect one way or another, so he was never moved to a quieter location. The number one thing that upset me was the theft of my mother's jewelry after she passed. I mistakenly chose to kept the items in a drawer in my father's room which some individual took advantage of probably while he was asleep. The supervisors told me that everyone on the staff received Polygraphs concerning the incident and nothing was revealed. Personally i think they were just circling the wagons playing GYA. All things considered I chose to relocate my father to a much better facility in Sugar Land, Texas. The unit there at The Village $1500.00 less per month an had a staff of nurses who truly cared about their patients. There are better Skilled Care facilities out there other than the Buckingham. All you need to do is look and inquire; you will no doubt find something that meets your needs. read more

BEWARE FOR YOUR NEW WHEELCHAIR!!! On December 2nd of 2022, my sister was admitted to the Buckingham's skilled nursing area. It was very upsetting for me to see my sister in such pain. In addition, there were some very unpleasant staff members. During her stay, the medical staff was not required to wear masks until my sister and numerous other patients caught COVID. This was a place that I believed was safe for her! She was discharged on the 23 of December. I was concerned with the potential of snow and hired a private ambulance on December 22 to take her home. In March of 2023, I received a statement from Medicare indicating the payment for a wheelchair costing over $3,000.00 which was ordered by the Buckingham. This was the first time I was made aware that a wheelchair was ordered since we never saw it. It appears that the Buckingham still has possession of her wheelchair. I had a concern regarding the possibility of Medicare Fraud. I contacted the company who sold the wheelchair. They immediately sent another wheel chair to her home. I just don't expect to encounter such inappropriate situations at a medical facility. read more

Arrived here for the Skilled Nursing Facilities this afternoon. I am recovering from back surgery where 17 staples were in place after the surgery was done. The bed is hard. I mean HARD! Not conducive to post back surgery recovery. And at 8pm, they still do not have my pain meds in-house. They just gave me two Tylenol and gabapentin for pain. (I've been taking 20 to 30 mg of OxyContin extended relief since surgery. Administered by the doctor of course!) This is inhumane. I hear some poor soul calling out for help down the hallway. Halloween is just down the road... There is still time for these guys to dig out and get a decent review outta me, but they had better get on it or I'm outta here! read more

This is a great facility where several of my senior friends live including my Mother. They are very attentive to the needs of their residents. There is graduated care for those that need it over time. It is like living in a resort! read more

Will not even attempt to do business with this senior care facility again. They confirmed they had a bed for our senior parent/grandmother then claimed they couldn't accommodate her for rehabilitation care post surgery. Totally completely unacceptable. This caused her to have to stay in a trauma hospital an extra 3 days. It was just cruel and baseless and caused a great deal of emotional pain for the entire family. read more

My mother in law (MIL) stayed at The Buckingham for 5 weeks after a non-displaced pelvic fracture. The facility has several positive qualities- 1. Security is very good 2. The food tastes good with a pretty presentation 3. Physical therapy and Occupational therapist are encouraging and provide high quality care 4. Transportation to appointments is efficient 5. The facility is attractive and very clean The downsides that caused us to move my mother in law home earlier than planned include 1. She had 24 hour care givers at home (well before The Buckingham). We signed a contract that stated any personal or activity of daily living (ADLs) would be provided ONLY by The Buckingham staff. We were fine with that and her companions could simply 'visit' 24 hours a day. The problem was the staff did not provide care. Most shifts, the Nursing Assistants would walk into the room, introduce themselves to the caregiver and ask if they needed anything. Other shifts, no one even came in. Finally after asking (and getting no response) for help to the bathroom, our caregivers helped with bathroom activities. They slowly started doing more personal care. 2. I was concerned that my MIL was only getting out of her wheelchair twice a day-for PT and OT. Otherwise, she sat in her chair all the time. At home, she walked about 200-250 feet with her walker several times daily. Her therapy was going well but it seemed impossible for her to achieve more success. I asked if her caregivers could walk in the hall with her-I was reminded of the contract we signed. I walked her in the hallway since I was not her employee. 3. PT trained one (of her four) of her caregivers to walk with her in the hallway. I verified that this caregiver could now walk with her in the hallways. The second caregiver went to be trained the next day. We were told by the PT director that the caregivers could NOT be trained to walk with her at The Buckingham but could be trained to walk with her in preparation for going home. This was not what we had been told the day before but did match the contract we signed. I helped her exercise in her room and in he hall between PT/OT visits. We were assured that the nursing assistants would do a 'walk to dine' with her. I told her the order had been written a few days before but had NOT happened once. Again, I was assured she would walk with staff three times a day plus her twice a day therapy. She was not walked in the hallways but therapy did happen twice a day M-F. We decided to take her home three weeks earlier than we had anticipated at this point. 4. The weekend staff (thought of often as the 'B team') provided more care and compassion that the M-F caregivers. This led me to wonder if administration and staff had issues. In my experience as a nurse, this seems possible. The facility is very pretty but has issues for a $10,500/month for room and board plus $37.50/15 minutes for PT/OT. My MIL had a $20,000 plus bill for the five weeks. She is happy at home with the usual 24/7 folks who help her. She is back to walking 150 feet several times a day. read more

I am writing after my mother's second stay at the plaza. The staff are all so caring there and everyone seems to know my mom. The therapy staff are very encouraging and really know how to motivate older people. The nurses are kind and I am happy to see that the same people are still around from the first time that mom was here. I was delightfully surprised to see the administrator at the station all the time and knowing all the patients names. The woman who was the head of all the nurses was also available and was there really late some nights too when we had questions. I hope mom doesn't get sick again but if she does I am bringing her back to the plaza. read more

First, let me say I have not delved into the costs, ratings, Medicare reviews, etc., of The Buckingham. My experiences have been as a visitor to the facility for special events. That being said, every time I've been there, the staff have been warm, friendly, courteous, helpful. The programs presented were first-rate, very nicely presented in their beautiful facility. The place was clean, the public bathroom was very clean, the refreshments presented beautifully. Should the need arise, I certainly would look into this retirement community for my loved ones. read more

The Buckingham looks like a wonderful place, but if your loved one is unable to speak up for himself or herself, the quality of care is terrible. Everything looks nice, clean, and orderly, and people appear to be friendly. But the employees who care for the patients are uncaring, incompetent, or even malicious. My poor father stayed here for several months. He repeatedly fell getting out of bed. His medications were given incorrectly and inconsistently. Some of the caregivers were rude and insulting to him. He snuck out of the facility and was found wandering around the parking lot. The billing department made many errors which are still unresolved almost two years later. The doctor "on call" never returned our calls. When we complained about my father falling frequently, we were told to hire someone to sit with him 24 hours a day. We were already paying over $10,000 per month to stay at the Buckingham, so another expenditure for a sitter was out of the question. We took my father home and hired a full time care giver...a much better solution. Don't leave your loved ones here. read more

I have to echo the sentiments of one of the other reviews. If you have a family member that is an invalid and unable to care for himself this facility is not the place to be unless you can afford private sitters. There is insufficient staff to cater to this particular patient type. read more

My experience at the Buckingham was terrible. I suffered a broken hip, and the care at night was lacking. Several times I was given only 1/2 my medication ordered by the doctor. They say they can give you medication 1 hour before or after it is due. This is unacceptable. If you need bathroom help, they have the same policy. A neat trick at night is to come in, turn off your call light and then much later help you. You need help when you turn that light on. They do not have 800 numbers on their telephone. I was told you can call 911 which I was forced to do when my blood pressure soared to a very high number. They would not help me or call the doctor. Yes, it was at night, but very high blood pressure is dangerous. I called 911 and was not picked up for 4 hours because they twice came to the Buckingham for me and were not allowed in. When I called the third time, I was finally taken to the hospital and treated. I was also told insurance would not pay if I did not do the physical therapy even though I had an excruciating headache. This turned out not to be the case as I called my insurance carrier to check. They would not provide a heating pad even when it was ordered for me. The good part is the food which in my opinion is great unless of course you are too sick to eat which is probably the case or you would not be there. If you are that sick and in pain, care is the most important thing you need. read more
