I'll cut right to the chase: if you need help with GRE prep, this is the place to go. I started my testing process with a decent verbal score and a slightly below average quantitative score, which was disappointing. I decided that a prep class would be worthwhile, but I had heard some pretty bad things about the larger companies such as Kaplan and Princeton Review. That's what led me to ATX test prep, and my first phone conversation with Michal I knew this would fit my needs perfectly. Michal is an incredibly patient and skillful tutor, and constantly put forth his very best effort to make the class as pleasant and (dare I say) fun experience as possible. Of course, all that would just be fluff if you didn't get results. Fortunately, those came in abundance as well. I increased my math score from below average to significantly above (around 80th percentile) and verbal from good to great. The homework is strenuous enough to keep you involved but is not overwhelming, and Michal makes a point to be there for you if you need any further explanation. Now that the class and the test are over, Michal is still helping me put together application materials. He certainly doesn't have to do that, but it is a testament to the genuine compassion that he has for his students that he does. So, like I said, if you need GRE prep don't look elsewhere. I found Michal after seeking out an affordable, reputable GRE prep course. Having initially been intimated with studying the material on my own, it was prudent that I found someone capable of breaking down the material into pieces that I could easily digest. Michal did just that and a whole lot more. His intellect coupled with his genuine care for his student's success is what sets Michal apart. Not only does Michal maintain relevant instruction (he frequently takes the GRE himself) but he also crafted his own "book" to aid in the course - a huge help! I started my GRE studies utilizing an online tutoring service where I would facetime once a week with this tutor. After a couple overpriced sessions, I realized that I needed to take my studies to the classroom if I really wanted to score well on the GRE. Fortunately, I came across ATX Test Prep and signed up for Michal's weekly GRE courseprep. Simply by attending the class you start to feel me comfortable with the material. It takes a lot of self-discipline to go the self taught or online route. After the 8 week course, I took the real test and performed okay but I had the drive to score higher. Michal was willing to continue to meet and create a study plan for me after the 8 weeks to ensure I could achieve the higher marks. The second attempt went even better and if was not for the encouragement and guidance from Michal I definitely would not have been able to accomplish my goals. I have two college age daughters. The older worked with ATX test prep three years ago, and was able to raise her ACT by 5 points, resulting in a very good score. She is an excellent student but not an ideal test-taker, so this was outstanding. Based on her results, I called Michal to help my younger daughter. She had already taken the ACT and had a great score, but wanted to squeeze one or two more points out of her efforts. I spoke with Michal about all of the test-prep that she had already done, along with her results and other qualifications. Michal could have sold us some time, but instead let us know that he wasn't sure he could add much value by doing that. Instead of just leaving it at that, however, he went on to provide guidance and advice regarding her approach, suggesting activities that she could undertake on her own, and even went out of his way to send us some recent practice tests that he thought might be useful (they were - her score increased by the additional point that we were hoping for). He charged nothing for any of this, and I know he would have done more if I had asked it of him. In short, Michal has clearly showed us that he absolutely knows what he is doing and how to get results. More importantly, Michal's honesty, integrity, and genuine kindness are rare to find and wonderful to experience. I cannot recommend Michal and ATX Test Prep enough. I truly wish we had found him sooner! I found Michal when I was looking for a tutor for my son, who was going into his senior year of high school, for math and for the SAT. I was initially hesitant to give Michal a try, as it 'seemed' to be more expensive (by the hour) than the other tutoring services we were considering, but it turned out to be more economical to go with Michal. My son's SAT score went up quite a lot, and with far less time than the other place had recommended. In the end it was actually a lot less money than the other place wanted to charge, which we would have had to pay up front. When Michal didn't have time available, he referred us to tutors that work with him and once to another freelance tutor, and they were all great. One time my son had to go somewhere else because no-one at ATX test prep was available as it was too short of notice. When I asked my son how it went, he said, and very unenthusiastically, "Okay." Then he said, " I prefer working with Michal. He's just better." There you have it. Aside from his actual tutoring skills, Michal is a very genuine and kind person. He is certainly tuned into my son as an individual to a degree that has been very impressive. He has continued to be very encouraging and supportive of my son on his journey with applying to colleges, which is another area Michal is very knowledgable in. He's just been amazing. After searching on Yelp for a GRE tutor, I finally went with Michal. He was VERY helpful in preparing me for the GRE! Besides the two GRE prep books that he provides you with, he also provides you with his own workbook filled with practice questions, tips, and tricks of the GRE. He even had a diagram of the layout of the testing center--for someone with anxiety, this was SUPER helpful to know what to expect on test day. He also helped me write my statement of purpose that was a part of my application. For someone applying to grad school for the first time, this was very helpful. Michal and Daniel are amazing! I took the GRE test prep course over the summer at ATX test prep. Initially I was somewhat apprehensive about investing 800 nonrefundable dollars, despite the fact that's already like 200-400 dollars cheaper than Kaplan or Princeton services and it is unquestionably, and by far, the most cost-effective Austin option for GRE prep. My worries proved unfounded. If you miss a class (which I did), you can make it up (which I did). ATX test prep also will read and critique your Statements of Purpose and essays. They will sit down with you for one-on-one sessions to go over whatever content is most challenging for you. If I'm not mistaken, I think they said in class that they will provide individualized support for up to 6 months after your GRE prep course has concluded, a service I'm preeeetty sure their competing corporate counterparts do not provide. It's good to keep in mind, too, that when you're supporting ATX test prep, you are supporting a local business as opposed to corporate entities. I have no regrets and only gratitude resultant from taking the course. I learned a LOT: about the GRE itself (history of, structure of), test taking strategies, study strategies, grad school application process, and unspoken academic codes of conduct (ie. always waive your right to your letters of recommendations). We covered each section of the test thoroughly. My math scores went up 11 percentile points, which was a big deal for me because I'm so weak in math. Overall, I gained a lot of confidence and improved my test-taking skills. Because taking the GRE at a Prometric testing facility is akin to voluntarily entering a temporary carceral state (no joke, I've taught in jails and the similarities are uncanny), I had several questions about the experience, which were answered in full. The classroom environment was supportive and any and all questions were welcomed. Sometimes Michal brought pizza for everyone for dinner and we had free refrigerated bottled waters at every class. Eating during class was totally fine/ not stigmatized. In sum, a great learning environment with awesome teachers, highly recommended! Thank you Michal and Daniel! read more

We got referred to Michal by our college counselor. Our daughter had already taken prep classes from another company earlier in the year and had received a decent score on the SAT. But she still wanted to explore if she should attempt one more time to squeeze another 30-40 points. We approached Michal and he honestly gave us pros and cons for taking the test again and also met with us. He reviewed the techniques and the types of questions she has been getting wrong and gave few good suggestions. He also provided a very good plan and some real SAT exams for her for practice. I found Michal very humble and an expert in his area. In the end, our daughter decided to not take the test again but we wish she had taken the prep classes from him earlier. Michal Goldstein really was an extremely patient and valuable instructor in this GRE testing process that I really needed. Testing has always been an extreme trigger for my anxiety, but knowing what to expect really calmed me down and instilled a confidence in me that I didn't really know I was capable of.
