This cafe is high on price but very low on value and quality. We ordered a cappuccino, which was just a filtered coffee with lukewarm milk (no foam). They forgot all about our "fresh, homemade" scone, and when I had to walk back to the counter to ask about it 10 minutes later, they pulled a dusty old hockey puck out of a plastic box and tossed it on a plate. Worse was that they didn't even bother to warm it up for me to at least give it some semblance to "freshly baked." And just as it looked, the scone also tasted like an old hockey puck.
But the absolute worst was the chocolate macaron we had the misfortune of picking. This macaron was completely stale -- like, half a year old stale -- and when I went back in to question the French manager about its freshness, he unbelievably told me it only seemed stale because it was in the chill case, and he would just MICROWAVE it for me to make it fresh again. I have had many macarons before, and I have never once heard about this ludicrous "tip". I think if you suggested to any proper French cafe/bakery owner that you should nuke a macaron, he/she would probably faint or give your ignorant butt a swift kick out of their shop. Our experience at Au Ciel was a disgrace to all French and British bakeries/cafes. read more
