Went to Virgule twice for dinner with my husband during our trip to Paris, France. The food was…read moreexcellent and of great quality, yet the price was reasonable. We ordered from the "menu essentiel" both nights, which included individual appetizers, one main entree, and a dessert.
On the first night, I had the six escargot de bourgogne (snails with garlic butter), pave de rumsteak sauce au poivre (rumsteak with pepper sauce), and mousse au chocolat en crumble et chantilly coco (chocolate mousse with crumble and coco chantilly). On the second night, I had the six escargot de bourgogne (snails with garlic butter), aile de rate sauce aux capres (skate wing with caper sauce), and ile flotttante aux amandes grilles (floating island with grilled almond).
The food was brought out fresh hot and each part of the meal (ie. appetizer, entree, dessert) came out at the same time for me and my husband. A side of seasoned potatoes was given with our meals. The escargot was so good, I ordered it a second time (although there was one snail the second time around that was particularly sandy/gravelly). The rumsteak was perfectly seasoned and tender with a warm, pink center. The skate wing was an exotic try, and it didn't disappoint. The meat easily separated from the bone and was so smooth. The chocolate mousse was delicious, but nothing unique that I would order it again. The floating island was a unique treat -- light, airy, fluffy and not too sweet.
There is only one waitress, who is also the shop owner. The food does take some time to come out from the kitchen, as is the case in most sit-down/dine-in French restaurants. The restaurant does fill up and can get full; be sure to arrive early to avoid the wait.
