The front office staff was warm and friendly and we appreciated the appointment reminders we received. We had both of our kids go through braces with Dr. Aubrey Barrett, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. She was easy to work with, clearly explained the process, and was very flexible and straightforward with financing options. The wait is generally quite long. We got to the orthodontist's office about 15 mins early. We had to wait another 20 mins after our scheduled appointment time just to see the hygienist. Then when the hygienist was done, we had to wait another 30 mins before the dentist saw my kid. We were basically there for over an hour for the 5 minutes that the dentist saw my kid. I think the office overbooks appointments for financial reasons, but the wait is really pretty bad. The office should consider hiring another dentist to support the volume of patients. read more

The bite is right! Dr. Barrett really took the time to listen to me and get these teeth looking beautiful, straight and finally...biting! Here's some history: So my step-brother is an orthodontist across the country and he's taken a look at my bite years ago and said that since my teeth were hitting on only one side when I bite, that my teeth would be ground down to little nubs over decades on that side (teeth not even hitting on the other side). Here's the thing: I've had braces 3 times. That's right. 3 times!!! A dentist did the first round...then "fixed" it at "cost" (so not making a profit, just charging me for the actual items ordered for my braces, still $600 back in the day, about 15 years ago) for the second round which resulted in teeth that looked good but the bite was still off. Later on, as an adult and after my step-brother's advice, I went in for round 3 and paid $5,000 to an actual orthodontist (rather than dentist this time) about 7-ish years ago. He fixed my "open bite" for the most part. However, my two front teeth were then slanted (the "cant" was off as per my dental hygienist friend). So then I'm singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth...to not be slanted!" Ugh. So flash forward and welcome to now...I did a one year treatment plan with Dr. Barrett and voila! My pearly white dreams have FINALLY come true! It was such a better experience than any time before. I'd like to think I'm kind of an expert patient by now after 3 rounds of braces. She did a free consultation and gave me a treatment time estimate & quote. My dental insurance covered about half the total bill. Also, Dr. Barrett gave me a discount on my out-of-pocket cost for paying the entire amount up front rather than setting up a payment plan. Dr. Barrett is very gentle...for example, she took off my permanent retainers carefully...took her time drilling slowly to minimize any pain. She's also recommended 2 dentists to me plus a pediatric dentist for my toddler. She's active in the dental community so she actually really knows these people from her study groups. Imagine that? A doctor who's passionate about continuing education! Dr. Barrett also has state of the art imaging equipment for Invisiline treatment. Remember the pink goo to have crammed in your mouth for creating a mold of your teeth? That is old school. New school is you can visit Dr. Barrett and have one of her fantastic and professional assistants work their imaging magic with the fancy imaging wand, just gliding over your teeth surfaces, creating a 3-D map of your mouth on the computer before your eyes. It's actually pretty cool! I'd just like to thank Dr. Barrett for really asking me what I want...and continuing to ask at each visit...tweaking the treatment a time or two...she even made sure that my Invisiline trays were created initially to not overlap onto my gums (sensitive gums due to a previous gum graft). Dr. Barrett is very gentle, friendly, personable, and gets the job done with precision! Plus, outstanding staff go above and beyond to work with your schedule. Great atmosphere in her office with large windows and tons of natural light pouring in. I continue to recommend her to my friends. If I could give 10 stars I would! Thank you Dr. Barrett! read more

Never got to see the Doctor. I am very disappointed that they don't answer the phone when I had call on regular hours and they don't even have a website or email. My son's Doctor referred me to her and I was trying for months and leaving a voice message. No one call me back so I had to contact my son's dentist for another ortho referral in Albany who scheduled me an appointment right away. read more

It's hard to get too excited about orthodontists... but we've been very happy with Aubrey Barrett. My daughter wanted Invisalign and our dentist referred us to a well known orthodontist in Berkeley. He was probably very competent, but the prices were outrageous and the attitude was a bit condescending. So we shopped around for other options and came upon this office. They were very friendly and significantly less expensive. We are almost finished the Invisalign treatment and all has gone well with no surprises - so I'm thrilled that we took the time to shop around. The biggest complaint is that sometimes the office gets really busy and you can end up waiting for a while (seems to be a late afternoon rush that corresponds with kids getting out of school). read more

Very, very disappointed. We came in for one very specific and minor treatment for our child, and they immediately pounced on the opportunity to provide a full range of orthodontics which were completely optional though they made them sound absolutely necessary. Total hard sell. Also, there are no private rooms. All the kids are lined up in chairs in one room; we thought it was kind of weird. They did not accept our major brand-name dental insurance coverage, so we had to pay cash. And, they really pushed us REALLY hard to sign-up for their CareCredit program, which charges 26.99% interest on balances from the date of purchase!! My understanding is that doctors and dentists whose patients us this credit program earn fees, commissions, or other types compensation for it--in other words, they make money off of it. Is this an orthodontist or a loan shark! read more

We went in for a very specific problem for our child and were given a really hard sell. My husband and I thought it was strange. Granted, much has changed since I got braces, so we trusted that this is what she is trained in. She kept saying how important it was to have straight teeth at a young age or else the adult teeth will need to be pulled (should have stopped when the fear-mongering started). So, long story short, after we completed treatment here (phase I) we went to a second orthodontist when our child had a retainer issue. She offered some early phase II treatment observations... she noted that my son has a strong overbite and wondered why this wasn't handled by the first dr. She also noted that the upper incisors were pulled back to mask the overbite. In other words, all of the first phase was for superficial stuff, not actually orthodontically necessary procedures. Big waste of money; I would have just waited until 6th grade and done real work then, like my husband and I had done as kids. PS, the reason I went to her at all is because our really great dentist recommended her. Should have checked here for actual customer experiences. Anyhow, know your stuff and what you specifically need or want before you go in. read more
