I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the dental services provided by Dr. Duong during my visit as a first-time patient. I scheduled an appointment for a standard new patient package that was to include a full cleaning, X-rays, and a comprehensive exam. I paid $400 upfront for these services. My primary reason for booking the appointment was due to discomfort in one of my back molars. While X-rays were taken and an exam began, Dr. Duong spent approximately an hour and a half discussing unrelated matters specifically issues with my breathing, which I never raised as a concern. Because of this extended and irrelevant conversation, there was no time left for the cleaning, and I was told it would be performed at a follow-up visit for an additional charge. At no point was my painful tooth properly examined, and I left the office without receiving the core treatments I paid for. My husband, who had an appointment directly after mine, experienced a nearly identical interaction his teeth were only partially cleaned, and he too was subjected to a lengthy, unrelated discussion. Together, we paid $800 for visits that failed to deliver the advertised or expected dental care. I believe this pattern indicates a concerning practice that appears designed to prolong appointments with non-treatment discussions, delay services, and generate further charges for incomplete work. This experience was both frustrating and disappointing. While I was able to recognize the issue and move on, I am genuinely concerned for other patients in the community especially elderly individuals on limited incomes who may not realize they are being taken advantage of. Following our visit, I consulted with another dental office, where I was informed that what occurred at Dr. Duong's office was not in line with normal or ethical dental procedures. I wanted to return to update my review regarding my issue with insurance. I later learned that my employer had never submitted my documents for insurance causing it to not be active. It was activated and charges submitted were paid retroactively. It was nothing the dental office did and I'd like to apologize. I do feel they should inform patients they are out of network. Him and his staff are very sweet and knowledgeable.. my kids love coming to the dentist with me. Dr.Duong was able to help me close my gap which was very affordable compared to getting braces. Scheduled a new client appt for my mother. They waited till an hour before we arrived to verify her insurance. Turned out it was one they didn't take, so they took it upon themselves to cancel her appt. When we arrived they told us they had canceled her. I said we would just pay out of pocket. They said they had booked someone else in her spot so we would have to reschedule. New appt was for Dec 23rd. Called them on Dec 14th because I had to reschedule (nine days notice). Rebooked for Dec 30th. Called them today, Dec 28th (full 48 hours notice) because we had decided to get her different dental insurance but it wouldn't be effective till Jan 1st so I wanted to reschedule again. I was put on hold for a while. Then someone, I assume the office manager, got on and told me that all this rescheduling was unacceptable and that they would reschedule her one more time but if I reschedule again I would be banned. She was condescending and rude and I didn't deserve that. I am always extremely polite and respectful to others and I expect the same in return. Now, I have been a client based industry for 27 years. I can tell you from experience that clients reschedule, sometimes multiple times. Never in all my years have I spoken to a client like that for needing to reschedule. We are all doing our best to juggle a million things and rescheduling an appointment is a perfectly understandable thing to do, especially with over 48 hours notice. In addition, If I double booked a new client, and had to turn them away when they walked in, their next appointment would be free. At the very least, they would leave with an armful of free product. That's how I do business. But I guess at Dr. Duong's office, it's acceptable to turn an elderly, disabled woman away at the door because you didn't feel like waiting to see if she would still want to be seen sans insurance, then threaten to ban her when her daughter needs to reschedule the appointment that wouldn't have needed to be rescheduled in the first place if they hadn't turned her away at her first one. read more

He even cleans my teeth for me and even had a deep cleaning which I always hated because it hurt so bad every time. He has helped 2 of my kids get passed being traumatized from a pediatric dentist. My 8 year old would scream and cry now she ask to go since her teeth dont fall out on thier own she has to get them pulled and she doesnt even flinch. I would be remiss if I didn't write a review for Dr. Duong. I found him when we moved to Richmond from Alameda. I've had a lot of dental work over my lifetime and lots of rough and not great dentists. I am pretty traumatized by dentists, even though in recent years I've had a couple of good dentists on the East Coast and here. But, Andy is a great dentist--the best I've had in my life. First he has all the latest gadgets and is up to date on latest techniques. He is gentle and very very careful and thorough. He is insistent on getting everything right no matter what the procedure. He gives good advice. Over this time of COVID, he has made it safe to see him when needed and has also made some adjustments to dental problems that let me delay procedures until times are better. I went because it was convenient to where I live, and I will go back because of the experience. This was one of the easiest first patient appointments I have ever had. I didn't even have to wait after I filled out my forms - they took me right on.
