Prompt attentive and thorough for basic services, yet highly overpriced for some services not covered in my Dental Plan.

I must preface the following by saying that I do not take relaying this type of info lightly. & it is not based on assumptions or rumors, interpretations or misunderstandings. The following is based on indisputable FACTS. Great Expressions Dental in Auburn. They've blatantly LIED on numerous occasions on various things. Claims. Billing. Procedures. I had been going to them since Sept. as a result of an emergency dental situation, & had gone to them several times thereafter. I never had an issue prior to this. I need(ed) extensive dental surgery. In January I had a consult with the oral surgeon, who stated I needed 2 bone grafts before other procedures could be done. My jawbone was "in good shape, just too narrow for implants." On that day (& on prior visits) I had been reassured by several people (dentist, billing clerks) that mostly everything would be covered. Remember that. Then on that same visit I was given an itemized printout of what I would owe, (out of pocket) - IF for some unforeseen reason my insurance denied my claim(s) for my pending surgery etc. Over 10 grand. I booked the appointment & checked with them periodically to see if they had heard from my insurance agency. "No, not yet." Then the DAY BEFORE MY SURGERY they called to tell me it was denied - & that I would need to pay the FULL AMOUNT the day of my surgery, regardless of the fact that I would only have a portion of the work needed to be done on that day - in order to proceed. THE DAY BEFORE. (Totally premeditated.) Shocked & in disbelief, I still kept the appt. I called my insurance agency right after that to let them know that I would file an appeal - & was told G.E. NEVER FILED A CLAIM FOR MY SURGERY or for other pending procedures. I immediately called my dentist's office - & literally had so much smoke blown up my ass - that I bet my lungs had actually turned black. The manager I had spoken with immediately took a defensive stance - & said my insurance carrier "recently changed their guidelines" & they knew that what needed to be done wouldn't be covered. So they never filed. Then a minute later she said "& when we submitted it, & it was denied..." I said hold up! You JUST SAID that you did not even file a claim, so how could it have been denied...if you never filed it????? SILENCE. I followed that up with - & when I've called to check if you've heard from my insurance, I was repeatedly told "not yet." I caught her in several more lies, which rendered her speechless again. THEN she said how they treat 50-60 patients a day, & that they just "don't have time" to file claims for everyone. I investigated further & called my insurance agent - & was told that they did not change anything to my policy, no guidelines were updated & if anything had in fact changed - I would've received a letter in the mail. Manager at G.E. tried to smooth things over with me by saying she would file the claims for me immediately. Too little too late. Cancelled surgery & let them know I'd be taking my business elsewhere. Totally disgusted. Thee most deceitful & unethical people I've ever dealt with in my entire life.

First: I thought it was a little weird they have you wear a blindfold for the actual sedation, but I thought it was just supposed to help the atmosphere or whatever. It would up being so you don't see the needle. The told me I would be out of it when I was being injected with any needles and wouldn't remember it because of the oral sedation, but unfortunately it's the only part I remember and I screamed because it was so painful. They should have warned me up front honestly about this, but they didn't do now I'm warning you. Secondly, I asked them to make sure to please use a stitch since we were removing a molar and I have poor wound healing. They said they would but when I woke up said they said they were unable to because my mouth was too small? What? I had my wisdom teeth out with stitches applied and there was NO issue there. Because they didn't use a stitch, I suffered a dry socket. It was painful but when I went back they didn't really even look and they were entirely dismissive. It took an additional two months to heal and the additional filling they did fell out. Because the work they did was so bad, I called them up and told them I wasn't comfortable getting my cleaning there and to cancel it and refund that portion of my bill. They tried REALLY hard to get me to reschedule but I have no intention of going back there. They refuse to refund the cleaning they didn't give me however. So basically I have no filling, took FOREVER and was super painful to heal my pulled tooth because bad technique- and no. I wouldn't recommend.

I believe what they have done is buy DTC's yelp page and change the name in order to keep the good reviews (which yelp has circumvented by making them obsolete, HA), then try to trick people into removing the bad reviews so they end up with many 5 star reviews. I refused to take my review down. Let it be here for all time.** Don't bother with this place. I'm not going back there. I will first state that the people there are very nice, the hygienists are caring, the dentists do have the best intentions, but...the competence is severely lacking. In the four appointments I had there, in one they mixed my son up with some random kid named Mario at the office, billing my insurance for the wrong child's treatment. I called about it, figured it was a new person's clerical error, and all I got for an explanation was the equivalent of "Oops." Then they screwed up capping my tooth, a treatment which I didn't even ask for, they did it as a surprise when they were in there extracting a molar...don't get me wrong, I was grateful, thanked them profusely... again, they had the best intentions...but they ended up cracking it at the root and exposing the nerve while doing so didn't help me. This tooth had never caused me pain, it had been cracked since I was 9, it didn't even bother me aesthetically. So after about 2 weeks, it got so constantly painful I had to come back and get it pulled in an emergency appointment. A procedure which they then screwed up by not waiting for the novocaine to work, (they kindly offered to stop mid-procedure, though, I'm sure I'd have felt great with a painful tooth hanging down with a quarter inch of root exposed) as it hurt so badly while they did it I was screaming, and they had to shut the door so I wouldn't scare the other (victims) patients.  The, rather than offering to give me an implant for my troubles, they went ahead charged me $350 for a dental flip, talking me into this right after the extraction while I was still in massive pain and not thinking clearly. And because I couldn't afford the 5k for an implant I went with that, so I wouldn't look like an effing Jack o lantern after they screwed up my tooth in the first place. Then they took a solid MONTH, after a two week promise, to get the flip in, but had screwed up the fitting and it had to be sent back another MONTH TO BE FIXED. So I had to go through Thanksgiving and Christmas pictures TOOTHLESS. If these guys were a good business, not only would these mistakes not have happened, they'd have offered more than a cursory apology, as recompense, after causing so much pain with their "repair" and shoddy work. Now I'm a toothless hag right out front for the rest of my life, I can't even bring myself to grin anymore, I'm too self conscious. I know it's stupid and shallow, but I can't help it. After the first screw up, I thought they'd handle it, but it wasn't a fluke, it's consistent incompetence. Basically, they're nice, but TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

MY PREVIOUS DENTIST OFFICE: For context, the last place I went to for a cleaning, took my x-ray, sat me down in the room, and spent 45 minutes telling me that basically everything in my mouth was wrong. "You have six cavities, bone loss below the gumline, you grind your teeth, your teeth are crooked, your gums are inflamed" and more. Before I left that chair, you bet, they had me signed up for thousands of dollars worth of dental work. A mouthguard to stop my grinding, a deep cleaning with local anesthesia, appointments for six different cavities, multiple appointments to be fitted for mouthguard and a whitening because my cavities will look silly if I don't get my teeth whitened beforehand. They even wanted me to get braces... I'm 25... I'm not getting braces... my teeth look and feel pretty straight and always have too. I didn't have the money for any of that so I ended up having to cancel all those appointments. I spent the next year thinking every tooth in my face could fall out at any given second because I didn't get all the treatments they wanted. Thank goodness I canceled. ZOHNI FAMILY DENTAL: I heard about Zohni from a friend and made an appointment. I changed my dental insurance and decided I should get my teeth fixed finally because it has been in the back of my mind for a while now since my last appointment. After taking their own x-rays, looking at the x-rays from the previous dentist office, and a full exam from the Doctor I KNOW NOW the last place was trying to scam me BIG TIME. They told me I had no bone loss below the gums. Mild inflammation that a little more flossing could fix. I didn't need braces, but if I ever wanted Invisalign they could set me up and straighten my teeth out by the end of the year. I didn't need a deep cleaning or whitening. The real kicker... the Doctor could only find 1 tooth that looked like it had a cavity beginning to form and it was way too early to get it drilled and capped. She told me she was really trying to find those soft spots seeing as the last place told me I have 6 of them that need to be drilled and capped. They said the cavity I have might even correct/maintain itself with fluoride toothpaste over a long time if I'm really good about it. No sales pitch, friendly people, and a thorough cleaning/exam. If you felt like your last dentist was giving you a high stress sales pitch, get a second opinion at Zohni. (I went to the Elm Street, Millbury, MA. location)
