I wish I had taken pics of the food, but everything looked so delicious that we devoured everything. We walked in not knowing if we were going to get sat cuz everything near the Oktoberfest grounds is by reservation only. We were sat at a long table with one party to our right and another to our left. Most other times this would be odd, but whatever we are in Munich and it forced my husband and I to be social. The party to our right ended up being from Florida it made for a great experience cuz everyone was super chipper and buzzing hard. The restaurant was so loud and all you heard were German chants and steins clanking.... The schnitzel was amazing! Fried perfectly, super tender, and well seasoned. The fries were great too. They had a pretzel basket on the table to enjoy and those were fresh and delicious. The service was great considering how busy they were. The server never forgot our beers or anything we asked, and the food came out fast. Overall a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic German cuisine and a great experience. read more

Wow, after a full day of international travel we were starving. This place was right across the street from where we were staying. With Oktoberfest going on, the atmosphere was festive. We sat at a long table with some locals. First, the beer was tasty. A dunkel. We then ordered a schweinhaxe and a sausage plate. They were both amazing and too much to eat. Good one! Very popular with locals, in this central-ish, yet have-to-know-the-place location. Lively atmosphere, Bavarian staples, and Augustiner beer is considered to be the best of the traditional 'Helles' Munich beer brands by most locals. Prices are affordable for food and particularly the beers (€3.40 for a 0.5l beer and €4.50 for a 0.25l glass of wine, in 2023, in Munich, way to lead, Augustiner!) Food quality though, mhh ... it's acceptable considering the price, but know that you'll get the most basic versions of the dishes, e.g. Schweinebraten with a sauce more resembling broth, no kraut salad to accompany, and unfortunately no pork crust. Münchner Stubn close to Hauptbahnhof does the dishes quite a bit better, but they also charge quite a bit more. My recommendation would be to eat here and order dishes that are best in their least elaborate version, like a pair of White Sausages. read more

Augustiner is the oldest brewery in Munich, a city known all too well for their beer. So going here was an the obvious choice to enjoy my first meal and beer in this town. As it is a beer hall, if you're by yourself (I was), cozy up to any bench you please, as long as it doesn't have a reservation on it. There were plenty of taken spots, but I was able to find a seat at a table with other English speakers so it ended up being somewhat of a social hour for me. I ordered the schnitzel (breaded pork cutlet) and pommes (fries), which, put simply, is delicious anywhere in Germany. That's all I need to say. Try it and you'll understand. Their beer was on par with my expectations: great. All of them. A fun little fact: their beer is strictly regulated to limited natural ingredients, which makes it even better to chug down. As for service, not the best, but I knew that coming in. I asked for a pretzel and the server went to another occupied table to find a stale one in that group's basket. The place is loud, but a jolly place to hang out and enjoy what Munich is known for. I hope to visit again soon! read more

Love this place!! Wonderful beerhall that isn't as busy as that other one downtown. I came on a Monday night and the place was basically empty. Originally had our meal downstairs but went up to the rooftop patio later for beer and pretzels. I ordered the sampler platter with five meats and really enjoyed it. My favorite was the pork, with my least favorite being the sausages. However, everything was very good and came out much quicker than I expected. Worth noting, the menu comes in many different languages and the waiters can speak English so you don't need to worry about being able to order. Also, the pretzels are charged by how many you eat, which isn't a big deal, just different than some other places. I love this place and feel like it's a perfect German beerhall experience! read more

I am fro Munich and I used to go to the Brästuben often and I was always very satisfied. This was my first time back since the pandemic and I was veryy disappointed. The potato salad was bought ready and you had to look very carefully for the meat of the schnitzel. Of course, the prices went up anyway. Unfortunately, the worst was the service. Even if you don't have perfect knowledge of German, I expect more friendliness than communication with just 1-2 barked words. After we asked the waiter about it there was only a "What'your problem bro" as an answer. Unfortunately, I can now only advise against a visit here. read more

Awesome place! Came here at 9 pm on the Thursday before oktoberfest. Absolutely packed. Went upstairs to the terrace and the staff was incredible! The busy waiter sat us immediately without a reservation and served us beer right away. Food came out quick and was very good. Traditional dishes. This place is a must visit! I was recently in Munich and had the good fortune of staying across the street from the Augustiner Brewery. From the moment you arrive, you feel its authenticity. A festive and welcoming place, full of people enjoying great food and drink. The brewery extends from the beer garden for another 3-4 blocks and they certainly know how to move their product. I witnessed the changing of one of the "Helles" wooden kegs and was blown away by the efficiency of the two man operation. Steins clicking and people laughing and singing, often in lederhosen, was fun to observe as a New Yorker visiting Munich. Every time I went for dinner, a total of four times, the place was packed with locals of all ages, sitting together and having an enjoyable time. The first night I went, several Bayern Munich fans were having a post victory meal and steins. The locals we spoke to were always friendly and eager to hear about living in New York. Of the dishes I tried, I have to say that the Bavarian mix plate was the most impressive and SATISFYING, with duck, pork knuckle, pork loin, two sausages and a potato dumpling, served on a saute pan. Deep meaty, hearty flavors were ever-present in all the components of the dish. The white cabbage salad was a nice refreshing small side plate that went well with this comforting mix of Bavarian offerings. On another occasion I tried the Jaeger Braten, with a mushroom gravy that was smothered over the lean cut pork loin. I think this type of mushroom gravy is now my favorite, sorry marsala. Of the soups, I preferred the cream of mushroom to the liver dumpling, which I thought was to salty, no small feat for my savory-friendly flavored palate. The place just hums and the service is mostly attentive. I am looking forward to returning to Munich and continuing my trip through this very tasty menu. I also visited their location in the city center but found the brewery to be more my speed. If you are in Munich, make this a priority place on your food and drink list. read more

We came about 6:30 and got a table, they said from 8 pm on, they had solid reservations. Guess it's a late dinner crowd in München. We both got the roast pork with dumpling and cabbage salad. Menus in English as well as German. Of course German. This is Bavaria. Our waitress spoke enough English to get us through. Really enjoy our meal at the Augustinerbrau. Way more affordable than the other beer halls nearby and with a more authentic feel. I'm not a huge fan of beer so I really love the Radler. Great quality sausages and some of the best sauerkraut I've ever had. This is a great spot for families or large groups of people. The food was excellent, and I'm not a huge fan of German food. I had the most traditional with pork knuckle, chicken, two sausages, and dumpling. It came with great sauerkraut as well. The pretzels were good and the service was fine. At the end, when I wanted to pay with my card, I had to go to the terminal with the waiter. He didn't give me an itemized receipt, and then he told me that tip wasn't included. I was under the impression that you don't need to tip in Germany because everything is included, but I went ahead and gave him a tip because I felt sorry that he felt the need to fool a tourist. So go and enjoy the food, but ask for an itemized receipt, check over it, and if you are asked to tip, let them know that you know this is not common practice in this country. read more

Not a big fan of German cuisine, but this place was the best of the 3 or 4 restaurants we tried while in Munich. I love all kinds of sausage, but I guess not such a fan of weiners (think Oscar Meyer). I was amazed at the number of places in Munich that try and pass Oscar Meyer style hot dogs off as sausage - NOT the same thing München! At least I had some Brat-style sausage on the Sausage platter - 2 actual sausages and one wiener. Potato salad was good as were the beans and pretzel.
