I'm torn on this place. While it's a great location to get very specific items I need, some of the prices are down right laughable. A vial of oil that has always been priced at $8.99 will suddenly have another price sticker put on top of the usual one marked as $12.99. Yikes. Guess I didn't want the patchouli that bad. Sometimes the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful when it comes to finding this or that or recommendations. But then there are other times when an older gentleman will keep bothering me by incessantly talking about himself (his collections, his alters, his experiences, his powers). Then there's a younger gal in there who is sometimes great and other times on her iphone and irritated that you're interrupting her. I'll still go in there, but only if absolutely necessary. There's got to be a better place to acquire spiritual goods in the vicinity. read more

What a fun shop. First, they have Rev. Stitch who is one of the most interesting and caring people you will ever meet. While the book selection is better at Alchemy Arts, they do have a good selection of stuff- candles, amulets, bracelets, etc. They also have rune reading and do classes. When I lived in Bridgeport, I was pretty much a staple in this store. I loved the book selection, the unusual statues, the candles and the pleasant & positive people who worked there. Most stores of this nature tend to be 'weird' and a bit "New Age-y" but this store feels very calm. No one pressures you to hurry and purchase something. I highly recommend this store. read more

I come here for incense and sage, but often find myself checking out books, stones, and other goods as well. The vibe in the shop is comfortable and makes you feel welcome to hang out for a bit. I came in here looking for a specific saint card and other info on this saint for my kids project at school. I left with a bag of cool stuff for the project and for myself! They have neat candles and oils. I don't believe in the "potions" spells and things like that, but the candles and oils smell good and they also have Christian items if you're looking for that and don't want to drive further out to Wadras. read more

There is always something I'm looking for and if for some reason I'm not to sure what it may be as far as salts or candles I ask the staff and they are happy to assist me in whatever question I may have. This shop is a hidden gem. The employees are knowledgeable and always ready to help. I'm new to the 'arts' so it's nice finding a place with people who are happy to share their knowledge and wisdom. A few other similar stores I've visited in Chicago have had employees who seemed to talk down to me just because I didn't know the properties of certain stones and oils off the top of my head. The employees at augustines are nothing like that. I feel comfortable to ask questions and if I'm looking for something specific they're always ready to help explore all options that fit my inquiries. They have a ton of potions and oils as well as a nice little book selection. They also hold small workshops and classes and offer cleansings for an extremely cheap price. Their prices are about the same as other similar shops on the city however they constantly have different deals and specials to take advantage of plus they'll occasionally throw in special little freebies here and there. This shop has become like a second home to me and I am definitely a loyal customer now. Their location is very convenient. You have to pay for street parking but you can usually find a spot almost right in front of the store. This is a special place filled with people who I could chat with for hours. Every visit I end up leaving with beautiful new products and tidbits of new knowledge to aid me in my spiritual journey. Great place to find unique gifts and beautiful one of a kind jewellery. Great place. I'm glad to have a place like this on the south side. Crystal was extremely helpful and was very positive. They have a ton of incense and some great books. They also offer classes which I plan on taking! I would recommend more unscented votive and pillar candles although they have a good selection of candles already oiled up and blessed. I had an amazing experience here and found a Tibetan bowl that sang beautifully! I also got some incense I had been looking for. A lot of hand made goods from Nepal. Augustine's Spiritual Goods never disappoints! The Staff from Rev. Stitch and his daughter to the owner Carolyn are all there to guide and help you through the store and all of the goodies contained within. The house-made lotions and washes are particularly potent, but the charm, stone, oil, and the book collection are pretty impressive too. I have purchased numerous items for my personal work from Augustine's and have found each piece to resonate in its own unique way. Stitch (an amazingly open and insightful/knowledgable individual) always seems to have just the right book waiting for me, and so, I have learned a ton about the paths that have called me to them. The ministry, as they see the work they do (or so I understand it) is an essential component of the store, while self empowerment through knowledge and the right tools are the basis for the work they want you to do after you reach out to them. Each member of the staff there encourages you to a wonderful blend of learning and self work, and they are more than happy to help guide you on your way! Many people I have taken down to Augustine's have requested to head back down whenever they are in town --that is high praise indeed! A pretty amazing place with something new each time you go, Augustine's seems to be going through its own renaissance and I encourage anyone needing a spiritual boost to head on down to South Halsted Street for a reading with Stitch or anyone else there. I've seen my fair share of new age stores and this one kind of falls short. They did have quite the collection of oils and incense, but I wasn't crazy about their candles. The prices seemed a little high. I wanted a couple oils, but they were $10 and in small bottles. I did pick up some bergamot incense for $4 that I'm super excited about burning when I get home. The man working (I'm assuming based on other reviews that he's the owner) was ridiculously personable and funny. I greatly enjoyed all of his literary references. I would consider come back here if I lived in the area...if only to chat with the owner :) read more

Wandered in in 2009 and I keep coming back. There is a great selection of oils, candles, books, crystals, jewelry and the like, but what I keep returning for is the consultations and surprisingly amicable relationships with the owners, manager, and workers. It's almost bizarre how well they (specifically, Rev. Stitch and Crystal) connect and share their knowledge and experiences with customers. I've been to some of the events and parties and have always felt welcomed and appreciated. This is seriously one of my favorite shops, ever. read more

Let me say I would give this place 5 stars, but took points off for two reasons..one, is if you compare their prices to any of the spiritual stores on ebay, they are way over priced. I do but from here if I need something right away but if I'm looking for a bulk of something I can get it much cheaper on ebay. Second reason is my friend and I took one of the classes and each paid forty or fifty dollars for it and it was a total rip. It was supposed to be about herbalism and fae and it was just about fairies which I had no interest in. Everything that was said in that class is a chapter out of one my wiccan books. However, the girl was so nice I didnt have the heart to complain and ask for a refund, but I would never take a class again.Note my friend and I were the only ones in the class besides some of the staff. On another note, I really like the staff here, they are very knowledgeable, and they do have some pretty cool stuff. I will continue to shop here for little things here and there and sometimes come in just to check out if they have any new stuff. And oh yeah, I met Rev. Stitch and he was a pretty cool dude. I'm always drawn to these wierd places, somewhat magnetically. I stumbled on this place as I was walking through the Bridgeport neighborhood, by accident, on an overcast, drizzly day, but almost as if it were meant to be. The inside felt sunny yet dark, fragrant, yet not too intense. The salesman told me the crystal necklace I selected was made by his wife. A smokey crystal kind of like the ones the kids make each other in grammar school for friendship bracelets and such. I felt attached to it immediately. He used his cleansing "powers" to purify my crystals before he "let" me purchase them lol .... ok .... I like it because it's purple and beautifully made and the crystals are pretty. Plus he threw in a free stone I felt immense energy from just for shits and giggles. Funny guy with alot of personality. Defnitely a must see store. Jars of "potions" and crystals with their property descriptions. I could spend hours in here. But i'm a spiritual fool when it comes to this stuff lol. I would seriously give it more stars if allowed! I stopped into this little gem of a store- really on more of a curiosity lark than anything. I have never been so glad that I did! The staff was amazing and I left with a box full of helpful items. And the staff is truly no pressure and extremely helpful. The candles I bought for certain situations are certainly helping as I can already see some improvement- but those oils- I can personally vouch that those oils WORK! The money oils- I used some that same day and had already made over the amount I had spent at the store! The "love oils" like follow me boy and fire of love and Cleopatra oils- used some today for a date I had and guy was on me like white on rice. Can't wait for my next little trip! Their book section didn't have quite what I was looking for but it was certainly diverse. If you have time- just stop in- staff is so friendly and it's worth it just to look around! read more
