Most of the garden was still dormant but there were a few spots that couldn't wait to bloom with a bang (the roses that I saw were huge!). Was nice to see that even at this time the entire garden was well-kept (tidy walkways, absence of weeds in the rose beds, etc.). Free to visit. Plentiful parking. Definitely recommend taking a peek especially during peak blooming season!

Overall, it's a vibrant spot, but I'd personally choose somewhere quieter next time.

I visited the Verge Center for the Arts on Sacramento's free museum day. I had always thought the…read moreVerge center offered different types of art and ceramics classes for the community but they also have a few nicely displayed exhibit rooms with 2 and 3 dimensional art on display from several local California artists. My favorite exhibit was that of a large tapestry scroll mounted on the wall depicting the artists happiness sorrow and angst. I love art that makes me think and wonder what the [bleeeep] the artist was thinking when he created it. I stared and pondered then I stared and pondered some more. I took a picture of the giant scroll (attached to this review). And I meandered on through Verge museum in my mind space. The learning classroom was an outstanding walk thru as every wall is adorned with exemplars of student work. There is a small museum store in the front lobby area which offers unique glass Jewelery, 3 dimensional ceramic pieces, fabric totes, artist pencils, acid free sketch books, and several lovely coffee table books. I will return to Verge center as they offer art classes to the community and they have a couple kilns where you can buy kiln time... ‍

The line was long but moved very quickly through security. Restrooms located on the main floor were large with many urinals/toilets for men and the women's restroom (according to my wife) had almost no wait as they designed it with many stalls. The venue holds around 2,000 concert goers. The sound system is very good as it should be from a venue designed from the ground up. The seating at the tables were reserved with 4 chairs spaced around a small table. It was nice to be able to put our drinks on a table versus holding them. At the end of the last song of the evening, Bonnie Raitt graciously allowed pictures. We will be returning in the future!

They also seemed to have stopped some of the earlier efforts to encourage non-automobile transportation (like the SABA-sponsored bike parking). I've attended a show here early on when it opened and parked my bike, but have not seen any more bike parking efforts. I wish the theater would do more to **clean up after themselves** or their guests for the neighborhood (such as a courtesy pick of the associated trash in a one block vicinity after a show). The additional trash, noise, and parking issues are a DIRECT result of the venue (not here before it existed) and Channel 24 showing some effort or courtesy for the neighborhood would be welcome. There are other reviews here about the parking issue and Reddit posts about the lack of neighborliness.

We placed our order and requested a bottle of wine. I also requested that the overhead gas heater be turned on, he said he would check. We ordered a pizza and a chicken Parm sandwich. When the order arrived , we were not given any plates so we had to use napkins to set our slices on. We were 3/4 through the meal and the water and the waiter came by to check on the meal with us, asked if we needed anything else and realized he forgot the wine. Since we were almost done we canceled the wine order. The heater was never turned on and we were cold. This was a very poor dining experience needless to say. In this day and age of expensive prices and servers expecting a minimum of 25% we left very deflated. Now, to the credit of the server he did send two glasses of wine over as an apology for the mishap. But, I must say we left with half the meal in a box because the heaters were not turned on. A+ for service! We held our ceremony in the smaller of the two big rooms and the reception in the larger. We had a massive curtain made that was pinned up between the two rooms, to divide the space. This worked ok, though we could have executed it a little better. (Did I mention we planned the wedding from NYC and had friends and family set everything up? LOL).
