My mother recommended G Street Fabrics to me after our local JoAnn closed, and she spoke highly of…read morethe store from her years of shopping here. I wanted to continue supporting it for that reason and for its sense of community, but my experiences have been consistently disappointing. Yesterday was my final straw. I am new to sewing and come in seeking guidance on fabric selection and product education, yet nearly every visit is met with dismissive or rude customer service. The older representatives in particular often do not greet me and respond reluctantly or faintly when I ask for assistance. Help is provided, but it often feels like an inconvenience unless they are in the mood. Yesterday, when I asked a representative at the fabric counter for help understanding a product, she was short-tempered and instead told me they were closing at 5:15 p.m., despite the website listing a 7:30 p.m. closing time. The interaction felt rushed, dismissive, and disrespectful. At checkout, I asked for a bag for several small tools and fabric. The cashier said they were running low, and etc and tossed the bag at me. This type of behavior has happened on multiple visits and consistently dampens the experience. I truly wanted to like this store, but the repeated lack of basic courtesy--especially toward newer customers--has made me unwilling to return. I hope management takes these ongoing customer service issues seriously.

Very disappointed with my recent visit. I've shopped here before without issue, but this experience…read morewas completely different. First, Google listed the opening time as 10 a.m., but the store did not open until 11. We had driven from Baltimore to get ahead of bad weather, tried calling multiple times, and found the voicemail full. There's no website to confirm hours, so we were left guessing whether to wait. Once inside, we spent nearly two hours selecting eight fabrics for multiple projects. Many fabrics were not priced, and the single employee cutting fabric had to repeatedly walk to the front of the store to ask the owner for pricing or answers to basic questions, which made the process extremely slow. The final issue was a large-print fabric that had deep slashes running several yards into the roll, along with visible black marks. I asked that the damaged portion be cut off or that cutting begin from the other end of the roll. The owner refused and told me that if I didn't like it, I didn't have to buy it, stating multiple times that they are a "for profit store." I have over 50 years of experience buying fabric and have never been expected to pay for clearly damaged yardage. We ultimately walked out without purchasing anything, leaving eight rolls at the cutting table--well over $1,000 in sales lost. It's disappointing to see how much this store has changed. It was once staffed by knowledgeable, helpful people who wanted to assist customers. I won't be returning.

I started sewing a couple of years ago and taught myself on a Brother I bought from Costco. After…read morea year or so, I treated myself to an upgrade. A friend had purchased a Babylock from Bergers, and Raymond gave her a great deal. Not wanting to drive to Manasses from Arlington, or spend a lot of money - I looked around for a deal on eBay. I found a Babylock Ellageo for about $600 and bought it. When the machine arrived (that was supposed to be in GREAT condition), it was obvious there was something wrong. The stitches were way too tight no matter what I did - and some wouldn't even stitch at all - almost like the feed dawgs were partially dropped. And, it made an awful sound when stitching. So, I broke down and drove out to Manasses. I wanted to know what it would cost to fix the machine - hoping to figure out what was wrong with it and resolve the issues. Raymond put the machine through a few tests - and then gave me the bottom line without any of the fluff. I could fix it, but the machine was outdated - and parts could be hard to come by. And the cost would likely be more than I was ready to pay. It's not what I wanted to hear - but, it wasn't his fault. I decided to pursue a refund with the seller (which I did thankfully get - minus a 'restocking' fee). But now, I was back to square one...looking for a machine. I looked over some of the machines Raymond had in the shop - and came across a mint condition Ellegante. It had just been turned in by a single owner who decided to upgrade. It was well maintained, all the accessories, documentation & embroidery hoops - and 0 embroidery stitches! Raymond made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. I've been a happy Baby Lock customer every since. I've been happily sewing on my Baby for over a year now and have had no problems. I've even brought her back to Raymond for her regular 'spa week'. Service is very affordable and reliable. I don't trust anyone else with my Baby - she's in good hands with Raymond. Raymond's honest and straight to the point - which quite frankly, I appreciate. I know I can trust what he's telling me.

Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great selection of a variety of sewing machines, etc.read more
