I started sewing a couple of years ago and taught myself on a Brother I bought from Costco. After a year or so, I treated myself to an upgrade. A friend had purchased a Babylock from Bergers, and Raymond gave her a great deal. Not wanting to drive to Manasses from Arlington, or spend a lot of money - I looked around for a deal on eBay. I found a Babylock Ellageo for about $600 and bought it. When the machine arrived (that was supposed to be in GREAT condition), it was obvious there was something wrong. The stitches were way too tight no matter what I did - and some wouldn't even stitch at all - almost like the feed dawgs were partially dropped. And, it made an awful sound when stitching. So, I broke down and drove out to Manasses. I wanted to know what it would cost to fix the machine - hoping to figure out what was wrong with it and resolve the issues. Raymond put the machine through a few tests - and then gave me the bottom line without any of the fluff. I could fix it, but the machine was outdated - and parts could be hard to come by. And the cost would likely be more than I was ready to pay. It's not what I wanted to hear - but, it wasn't his fault. I decided to pursue a refund with the seller (which I did thankfully get - minus a 'restocking' fee). But now, I was back to square one...looking for a machine. I looked over some of the machines Raymond had in the shop - and came across a mint condition Ellegante. It had just been turned in by a single owner who decided to upgrade. It was well maintained, all the accessories, documentation & embroidery hoops - and 0 embroidery stitches! Raymond made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. I've been a happy Baby Lock customer every since. I've been happily sewing on my Baby for over a year now and have had no problems. I've even brought her back to Raymond for her regular 'spa week'. Service is very affordable and reliable. I don't trust anyone else with my Baby - she's in good hands with Raymond. Raymond's honest and straight to the point - which quite frankly, I appreciate. Mr. Berger is absolutely a sewing machine magician! I took my 40+ year old Sears Kenmore machine in for service. It had never been serviced before and it was making terrible noises and seizing up on me. I was told it would be a month before they could even look at it which was fine because I wanted it looked at by the best. 2 1/2 weeks later I got a text that it was ready for pick up! Its sewing like a dream again! Berger's is absolutely the only place I would trust to do anything with my sewing machine! I highly recommend them. read more

After searching all over NoVa to find a sewing machine repair store that wasn't also a vacuum store, I finally found my way to this amazing shop. My less-than-a-year-old Singer 4411 was making a clicking noise and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. After a quick inspection by Missy, the store manager, Berger himself came over, quickly diagnosed the problem (misaligned needle housing), and I had my machine back that day. He also had great recommendations for supplies which I, a novice sewer, greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this place for new and experienced sewers. My experience was ok at best on some occasions, but the last time I was there was unacceptable. I guess I can understand not wanting to work on a certain older machine because it's too complicated, but to just walk away in the middle of the conversation and not return was just so rude, I can't get over it. Don't take your Husqurvarna machine there to get serviced. I would rather drive an hour away to another shop than the 15 min to Bergers from now on. read more

I have been sewing for over 15 years. I have owned a Singer and a Janome machine but decided to upgrade to a Baby Lock machine. After deciding on the Baby Lock Allegro, I emailed Berger's to see if they had this machine in stock. The response from Mr. Berger was very quick and professional. They did in fact have the machine in stock so I decided to take a chance and purchase from Berger's. That was the best decision ever. Aside from how happy I am with the Allegro, the level of customer service was top notch. Not only will I use them for servicing of this machine but I will continue to make additional purchases since I know I will be met with friendly and knowledgeable people. I just had the worst shopping experience I've had in years. I waited for 10 minutes to get my machine looked at. When a man came to me and demanded "What's it doing?" I said "I think its a timing issue."- He cut me off and nastily said WHAT'S it doing? When I said "Well the bobbin is not meeting the thread. I opened it"--- He cut me off again and said "Ugh, why'd you do that? You just made a lot of work for me! You need to just get a new machine. I can't do anything with this....". As he closed my machine case and dismissed me I put down all the other things I was going to buy and walked out nearly in tears!!! I am a person!!! I get we are all in high stress but we can't forget how to treat people. I was trying to make masks and my machine broke. I should not have been made to feel like an idiot. I will never go here again and I will never suggest this place to anyone. Kindness is essential and it should be a priority, but I guess everyone doesn't read more

NEVER AGAIN!! I've taken my industrial sewing machines two or three times in the last four years, from the beginning the guy was not friendly, but he fixed the machines and that was all, there wasn't another store around to fix them so I kept going there. Almost a month ago, I took two machines to be repaired, he asked for $50 deposit for each one, I was surprised, but I left them anyway, it took three weeks to get one done, so picked it up today and at home, I try to use it and found out that the problem persisted, so I went back and guess what! the guy did not like it, he was disrespectful, angry, and treated me so badly, he even yelled at me, he made a scene in front of other people. So looks like I'm not the only one who has experienced his mood and nastiness, definitely, he has behavior issues that he needs to address before running out of clients. It's a shame honestly. I did not react to his tantrum I just ask for my other machine back and to return the $50 deposit. I say thank you and he did not even say your welcome or sorry. Oh! and did I say that the "repair" cost me $135? yes! So NEVER AGAIN! and I do not recommend this store to anyone. He should not be dealing with customers. read more

Since my mother's sewing machine had stopped working in the middle of a special project for my newborn, I called Berger's on behalf of my mother. When I called and asked if an estimate for a repair was free, a woman assured me that it was and told me to have my mom bring the machine in. My mom drove 20 minutes to find this little shop in hopes of receiving an estimate, an honest opinion, and/or repair. Well, the man at the store took one look at the machine (which is an affordable Singer) and didn't even provide the slightest effort in taking a look. He was not of any help at all and said he couldn't help my mom. He didn't even provide an explanation and left my mom feeling disrespected and humiliated. This is very unprofessional, and thankfully, we know never to come to Berger's or recommend it in any way. Do yourself a favor, and please go somewhere else. read more

I had a great experience at this store on Friday, 11/20/20! I brought in a treasured Irish wool throw blanket with a large tear, hoping someone could give me a suggestion on how to repair it. I was helped by Tina, a skilled seamstress & known problem-solver. She showed me exactly how to fix it & sold me the products I would need. I have been using my Viking sewing machine nonstop for two years making bears, pillowcases & surgical pillows to donate to Fair Oaks Hospital. Then COVID-19 came along so I started making surgical caps and face masks to donate. I knew I should take my machine in for service but didn't feel I could go without it. Finally, just before Christmas I took my machine in for service to Berger's. I have used Berger's for approximately 45 years. Their service and products can't be beat! My husband went here to buy me a sewing machine 4 years ago. I finally took that machine in for maintenance this summer and had a great experience. The people working there were super helpful, the cost for machine maintenance was reasonable, and it was done quickly - just in a few days time. I had some questions and they were quick to answer them, they even sat me down and showed me some things on a machine. I ended up going back to purchase a much more heavy duty machine and they sat me down and taught me how to use it. They offer classes for more in-depth instruction. I know that this shop is a Babylock brand retailer, but they may also have other brands for sale. They sell both new and used (reconditioned) machines. I think I'll go back there to purchase my serger. I was really impressed by the high level of customer service. read more

I use Berger's for all of my vacuum purchases. I own a business and I purchase vacuums on a very regular basis so it's important for me to have a local store that sells a quality product that also offers belts, bags, etc.... It also helps that one of the owners of the store Raymond is able to service and repair my vacuums to keep them in tip top shape. I go though tons of vacuum bags and was constantly in the store. He recommended that I buy them by the case and not only has it saved be money but also so much time!! read more

Don't go to Berger's if you aren't used to cats roaming around while you shop. I have a terrible allergy to cats & can not be near them. I put up with it one day but the next time I went in, I to asked at the door if the cat was in the shop today, Raymond replied "the cat is always here". He didn't offer to put him in the back room or even ask what I wanted as I walked out the door. He apparently doesn't need my business and will not be getting it. So much for helping the locals out. I had been meaning to stop by Berger's for ages and I went yesterday to look at sergers. I am so glad I did! Raymond was not only knowledgeable, but extremely helpful. He took the time to demonstrate two of their Baby Lock models. I am also VERY happy that they keep the specific bobbin thread I need for my embroidery machine (that other chain fabric stores do not carry), as well as quality embroidery threads. I am still pricing out sergers, so even if I don't purchase one from Berger's, I will buy all of my embroidery threads, as well has having my machine(s) serviced, there in the future. read more

I have used this shop for many years in maintaining my Pfaff sewing machine. Have never had anything but the best service and treatment-always quick and reasonably priced services. Yesterday I went in and picked up a new Baby Lock Aria. So excited, this is my first computerized machine. I love visiting with Missy the cat, and to those who have mentioned the cat should be put up for allergy sufferers, there is no way to remove the impact of a cat on the room by moving it out of view. This doesn't make it a bad place. I met a group of women leaving a sewing club meeting and can't wait to get more involved in the goings on here...Such a pleasant experience all the way around. I did my research and found this gem. We brought my grandmother's (baby) industrial sewing machine there. Our 31-15 Singer Industrial sewing machine (built in late 1940s) was in great hands! They knew all about it and gave the whole machine a tune up. Replacing belts, oiling it, replacing the very dangerous electrical cord (with exposed wires). They even gave me a run down on how to thread the machine, load the bobbin etc. I will never take another sewing machine to any other place. They are definitely the best in the business. read more

I brought my 30 year old Necchi sewing machine in because it was not working right. The gentleman that helped me was so patient and explained about being sure the needle was in correctly, basic maintenance and the importance of good thread. I expected to pay $100 as I have on the past for service elsewhere to get it working properly but that did not happen. He was so patient and understanding and did not try to charge me for unnecessary work. Took the time to talk me through what I needed to do. I purchased supplies and plan to make this my first choice for any sewing related supplies in the future. read more

Raymond has serviced my two sewing machines and serger for many years. These are old machines (one not so old) and I didn't buy them from him. He is such an expert he brought one of my machines "back from the brink." He took the time to show me what was broken (so many small little plastic pieces!), and gave me an estimate on cost and time. I recently purchased a Presto II from Berger's. What a nice shop with fine fashion fabrics and quilting fabrics that Manassas hasn't had in a long time. Berger's has a vast number of Baby Lock sewing machines on the floor from quilting machine to the top of the line embroidery machines which will be my next dream to fill. Everyone in the shop is really nice to deal with. Mr. Berger was very knowledgeable about every machine in the shop. He had serviced my older Singer machine for several years and it was just time to get a better machine. I'm so happy I decided on the Presto II. It is just an awesome machine. What I also was grateful for was that Mr. Berger asked questions that made it easy for him to show me just what I needed and did not try to sell me more then I could afford.
