I do not look like your average skater but they made me feel welcomed. I recently had the entire rink to myself for one hour and it was PURE JOY! Oh, boy. This roller rink is straight up 1970s. I feel like I went back in time. I should be doing the "Hokie Pokie" on skates followed by holding hands with a boy with braces as we skate to a Journey song. This is not my kind of scene. ;) The staff is friendly enough. They offer free skating lessons before it officially opens. --very helpful for young children. I just feel the need to go home and shower after just sitting here though. I roller skated for the first time in years this weekend. My young child skated for his first time ever. I'm so glad we went to Aurora Skate Center for their Saturday matinee. They have reasonable prices and a nice selection of food at the consession stand. We got pizza and nachos. I appreciate how there's adult skate Sunday nights. My 12 yr old son was having horrible time being cupped up in the house since March. He is very musical and social. Loves rollerblading. He us not the best but very, very motivated to learn more. We have done several birthday parties here and always had awsome times. But I feel that this now more than ever gave our teens normal-like environment to just be that. Kids who are doing something active and fun in the safe environment. They have u wear a mask and there are sanitizing stations all over. This place is fun for the kids and has okay music. Their prices are fair and hours are a little weird. But no one EVER answers the phone there. You can call when they first open or in the middle of their hours, no one is going to pick up the phone. When you go to their website to get more info, it is not updated and have of the links are "expired" and "no longer available". Can't book a party online and no one answers the phones. It's more of a once in awhile place to visit. read more

This place delights me. It's a total throwback and the people who run the show are quite quirky and nice. Price of admission isn't bad for the matinee skate sessions and the floor referees keep an eye on the non-moving folks and people headed in the wrong direction, making things safer than if it was a total free-for-all out on the rink floor. I had an old pair of skates re-fitted with outdoor wheels / bearings / stoppers with the folks at ARSC and although it took a little longer than I would have liked (communication was a bit disorganized- we played phone tag over the course of three weeks' time), I am happy with my "like new" pair of skates which I use for street skating. Looking forward to breaking in a new pair of indoor skates on the floor at ARSC just as soon as I can get back there for an afternoon. Okay, it's been about 20ish years since I Roller Skated last... I unfortunately had low expectations walking in and then was blown away! I think I just found a new favorite hobby!!! Aurora Skate was some of the most fun I have had in forever with my whole family! They played games, had races, gave prizes( at least I assume they got prizes, they got something...) had great music with a DJ that kept things going. The Skate staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. This blew me away too, my daughter was crying a bit after a fall and one came up and talked her back up to a big smile! I cannot tell you how appreciative of that I am! The open skates are good and long and broken into manageable times and activities. Prices are fair, wish I could get a membership tho. This place brings me back to my teenage years! We took the kids roller skating for the first time today and had a blast. The kid's skate lessons were very reasonably priced, and the teachers were patient and helpful. We stayed for skating afterwards (included in the price of the lesson), and I was amazed at how much my boys improved in just a few hours. The snack bar is reasonably priced ($1 for a small soda, $2.50 for nachos or a slice of pizza), and it's clean and family-friendly. You can bet we'll be back! read more

Upon entering the building, we were informed of the new policy. They don't give change. This "policy" was canceled about 1 minute into our conversation when I was handed fresh crispy dollar bills. The staff has personality! What the?? Really? The owner is a great man with a real love for his business and skating. He takes very good care of his customers, both new and old. The rink is extremely nice to skate on, and the rest of the place is very "standard issue skating rink." EXCEPT They have an impressive Hammond organ, that is played live on Monday nights. Oh, and the gentleman that plays for the skate center also plays the organ for the blackhawks. Take the ride out. Do's it!!!!! read more

This is a great place to take a group of friends that enjoy having fun. Is it brand new and fancy, no; but that is part of its charm. It's like a time machine that took us down memory lane, for me it was skating at the Axle in Countryside (yes it was the Disco wheels era), and for my wife, well she put me to shame as she used to skate in competition. This was where she used to skate when she was in high school. The rentals were in good shape, the rink was clean with plenty of parking and the staff was friendly. We had fun, can't remember the last time we laughed so hard (it must have been my attempts at skating backwards after all these years)! To top off this trip down memory lane we went down the road to Gario's for Pizza, but that's a review for another day.... read more

The men's bathroom needs some major renovation and updating otherwise average compared to the other roller rinks in Illinois.

This is a fun little place. It is very family oriented, so there are a lot of small children running a little wild, but they manage to stay out from underfoot for the most part. They are just having fun and not purposefully trying to get in the way, unlike some skating rinks I've been too. The man who runs it is such a sweetheart. He jokes around and is so friendly. He talked with us for a good twenty minutes about skates. His prices aren't jacked up to the roof. I like an honest man. The rink itself is quite nice. It is in better shape than some older places. I wouldn't say it is the smoothest, but that could have been because the rental skates were definitely on the lower end. I come to expect that from rentals. They do the job, but if you are at all serious about skating (even just for fun), you are better off to invest that money in a pair of your own. read more

I'm 27 years old. And I don't know how to rollerskate. I was a cautious kid, and I have the balance of a weeble sometimes. My friend talked me into going to Aurora Skate one night. She loves rollerskating so much, she's got a rollerskate tattoo. I confided in her that I didn't know how to rollerskate, but somehow I agreed to go. This place needs a little bit of a makeover. It smells in the lobby, and there aren't enough benches to sit. I can't complain about the number of children, since rollerskating is a child's sport mostly, but a lot of them were running around like wild animals - while wearing skates. It was very crowded here, and the kids zip by you on the rink somewhat recklessly at times. I didn't expect anyone to give me space, but the kids are hardly respectful of each other or kids smaller than them. There are staff walking around to ensure that everyone keeps moving on the rink, or aren't standing in the aisles, but the kids don't really take notice to anything they say. They crowd around the benches to chat, taking up room for people like me who actually needed to sit down. Meh. I guess it's an okay place for rowdy kids and tweens. I still can't rollerskate, but I'm totally fine with that. read more

This place is really great. My daughter recently started taking lessons on Saturdays. The price is very reasonable. Plus, once she takes the lesson, she can skate for the rest of the day for no additional fees. She now heads over there about 4 times a week. The staff is friendly and the instructors are very good with all of the kids. The floor looks like it is in very good condition and the rest of the place appears neat and tidy. They have a nice little snack bar and they can host birthday parties and other events as well. For a day of good exercise and inexpensive entertainment, this is a great choice. It's great to get my daughter away from her laptop or the TV for a few hours. It's great for families as well. Great choice that is, for us, close to home. Update: My daughter has been skating here for almost a year now. I've purchased two pairs of roller skates for her. Both pairs from here. You will have a hard time beating his prices. Even etail places are much higher priced. Plus Dan takes the time to explain the equipment you are buying. Even if you have to skate somewhere else closer to home, it's worth the trip to get skates at ASC. Update - this place was worth 4-1/2 starzzz .... no more .... Looks like Danny Boy has turned over some of the day2day operations to a young fellow....and all in all that is a really good idea .... fresh blood .... fresh ideas .... new energy!!! However, the guy Danny picked may not be up to the task ... I actually saw and heard {Really Heard} him discipline a worker by berating him and scolding him as a child. And all of this IN FRONT of paying customers and the rest of the staff!!! That sort of thing just isn't done. And then he openly and loudly discussed his marketing strategies and party profitability with another employee. Very loudly... Plus, the place is alot less friendly and doesn't seem like a family establishment any longer. Parents beware..... read more

My husband has skated here since he was a little kid, so you know it's been around since the Cenozoic age. We went for the first time yesterday, and wow, what a cosmic 70s experience. Quad skates and Michael Jackson music - they throw in a little Scissor Sisters too, I think. Speed and inline skates are also available. They've got a great new floor, and the people are quite a bit less surly than most skating rink personnel. Dan is a riot! They also give classes for kids and adults. This place is FANTASTIC!!! My wife and I had a blast here! The folks that run the place are really nice and helpful, the guys on the skate floor do a great job of taking care of the skaters and keeping it fun and the DJ - DJ Suavesmooth is AWESOME!!! He plays great music, fun and up-beat, he is fun and engaging, took requests- Great DJ! (GANGNAM STYLE, Oh Yeah!!!) The skaters here were great too! Just a good bunch of people having a good time. The kids seem to be very well mannered and they DON'T turn the place into a zoo. Plenty of room to skate and have fun on the floor. We are just so pleased with our experience here, the people, the skating, the music, the games, THE FUN!! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK! (Hopefully this weekend ;) ) read more

Pros: The skates are in great condition, you can tell they're really taken care of. I appreciate this. Same with the skate floor, really good condition. No one pays any attention to the DJ, but he makes a great effort. There's a tiny (seriously tiny) area where beginners can practice without getting run over. Cons: Matinee (public skate) is open from 1-4. During that time, we were stopped three times for "organized activities". First was to sing happy birthday to the people having a birthday party at the place and do the hokey pokey (seriously),second time was to watch people race each other, and the last was to play 'four corners" which really.... I sort of get the idea - it forces everyone to take a quick break - but it's extremely annoying. If we want to stop skating, we will. We're not part of the birthday party, so being stopped during time we paid to skate to sing and dance for someone we don't know is equally as annoying. People will take a break when they need to, being forced to when we paid to skate - not a fan. I'm all for family time but the employees "working" on the floor (I use the term working very loosely) should pay more attention to what's going on. There's a lot of people skating, and of course they're not going to be able to see everyone, but there were a few people who needed to be asked to be more careful. Douchebag with the gold chain who made a point to cut off any women on the floor? You're a GOD, dude. Thanks for almost making me bite it not once, but twice. I totally appreciate you scaring the crap out of the 7 year old with me, too. Totally showcased your skills, good job. Unsupervised little kids with those pvc pipe skate buddy things going the opposite direction of everyone else? Not dangerous at all. Great idea. The employees managed to ignore the gold chain douche but were all over my 7 year old for drinking gatorade while standing next to the opening to get out of the rink but still techinically being in it. Um, okay. All in all, it's a roller rink, and well taken care of, I just wish there was a tiny bit more policing for safety. read more

While visiting my family in town in the beginning of September I went to my favorite roller rink the Aurora skate Center. While I was there I ordered a pair of skates that were close to $300. I put down $100 deposit and was told because of Covid there is definitely a delay but they would keep in touch and let me know when I could receive my item. While we are in the end of January Almost February going into the six months and still not one call from the owner. I have probably placed about eight phone calls to the skating rink inquiring about my skates. Every time I call I get the runaround of why the owner cannot get on the phone and speak to me and share what is going on. I am so frustrated as this is one of my favorite places to go that they would do something like this. I simply do not know what to do as every time I call an Employee has another excuse and 500 apologies but once again no one bothers to call me back. It's a great place to skate but I would never give them one time to order skates if this is how they treat their customers not to mention stealing my hundred dollars! I'm completely floored that this is continually ignored and my hands are tied I don't know what to do! read more

I did not realize this place was there. We go to Phillips Park a lot and never saw it. We got a deal on Groupon and decided to give it a try. We had so much fun! Our daughter had never been skating before and they were ok with one of us going out in the rink in our shoes as long as we stayed along the wall. They also have these skate assist things that they kids can hold and skate with.The staff was super friendly. The only issue was whoever was supost to be working to door was always missing. We had to wait a few minutes to get in and there were a few people who would just walk in and then have to go back out to pay. We where a little e sad because we went when there was supposed to be some thing to do with radio disney and it was not. read more

I took my son and daughter to this skate center for an organized group party that my son was invited to. My daughter has extra bones in her feet, has flat feet, wears orthotics and has sensory disorder making skating painful for her, so she and I entered as spectators. We met our group, sat down, my son put on his skates and went skating. My daughter saw some classmates at a nearby table and went over to talk to them. Shortly after, the group of parents that I was sitting with was approached by a manager asking who the child belongs to. I answered that she's mine. I knew exactly where she was, simply standing, talking to her friends with a purchased drink in her hands. I was told by the manager that kids need to have skates on at the rink and kids not on skates "cause problems". I explained her issues and he made an "exception" for her but I was told she cannot be a spectator in the future, she HAS to have skates on in the center. I was a little aghast at that. I can see his point with unsupervised groups of kids, but she's basically disabled on skates and can't skate w/out pain. So if she's invited to a birthday party or a school event or a girl scout event, she cannot go to socialize, even if I am there to supervise her. Not sure when this new rule started, but a couple of years ago we used to go quite a bit. She'd attempt to skate and wear them for 15-20 minutes, then put her normal shoes back on or just not skate at all and wear her street shoes the whole time. Never had any issues. This new rule is unfair to her or any kid who wants to be with their buds but doesn't want to or can't skate. She felt a bit out of sorts about it too, as she's a great kid and felt awkward about being assumed to be a potential troublemaker without wheels on her feet. If kids want to cause trouble, skates on their feet won't stop them, so having skates as a deterrent to trouble seems silly to me. In my opinion, a more effective rule would be to have any child under the age of 14 or 16 supervised by an adult on site at all time. Sounds like a way to force people to pay the $4 skate rental fee. Secondly, they got a new menu that displays options on a TV type system. On the menu was ice cream. I stood in line between 5-10 minutes to get ice cream. When I was finally able to order, I was told ice cream is only available in the vending machine. I only had a debit card, the vending machine only takes cash. I asked why ice cream is on the menu then. The cashier offered the use of the ATM machine, but I'm not about to pay $3-4 service charge to get a $20 bill to wait in line another 10 minutes to break the $20 bill to smaller bills to buy a $1-2 ice cream bar from the vending machine. I ended up buying candy after waiting so long, which I hated to do. And here's the petty part. I cannot stand the smell of this place. I also don't get why the water fountain water tastes SO bad. Either they're on well water and need a filtration system or something or they have altered the fountain to make it taste bad. Aurora water is actually tasty. Makes me wonder if they do it to push concession stand sales of drinks? read more

I am from out-of-town and an adult still learning to skate. I looked up this place and found a treasure. The night I went was a Monday, which is adult night, and what a throwback experience it was. The place was packed with seniors that blew my mind with their skating abilities. A few of them took pity at my floundering and gave me tips on my technique. It's a wooden skating floor, which for some reason just feels "right". They had an organist that apparently is the same guy or gal who plays at the United Center for the Blackhawks games, doing oldies on the pipe organ. The owner/manager was a friendly, avuncular sort that watched over his roller fiefdom with pride. read more

We've been skating at Aurora Skate Center since 2006. The floor is great! (In fact, my kids won't skate at some other rinks if their floors don't measure up to ACS.) Recently they replaced their whole fleet of quad skates with brand new ones. My family doesn't skate in quads but I like the idea that Dan is spending money on keeping the quality up for his customers by providing brand new rental quad skates. I have bought inline skates from Dan and found his pricing to be very competitive. (When he didn't have something in particular I wanted he was honest enough to send me somewhere that did.) That brings me to the staff. There is such quality of character in Aurora Skate Center staff I am happy to be a returning customer. My kids know their DJ's and snack shop specialists like family. That's probably because the staff takes the time to know the kids by name and interact with them in positive ways. Dan and his team have earned our repeat business and loyalty over other rinks. I'm thankful they are in our community operating with such integrity for my kids to grow up building so many memories there. I have no reservations in recommending ACS. I've taken my daughter to this rink 2 times now. It's very retro. Both times we've been part of a large group, and hence I haven't had to experience the ticket counter. However the staff in the rink has always been courteous and accommodating. Their snack bar has a lot of options and isn't ridiculously priced. This place has been around FOREVER! It's the kind of place that screams nostalgia, with it's wooden floor, disco lights, and inexpensive snack bar. The price is right for a GREAT day of skating with friends! This may not be the newest fanciest skating rink in town but it's a great place to learn to skate.
