Austin and Sons were chosen to replace our original 35 year old asphalt roofing with a combination of asphalt shingles, metal valleys and metal eve aprons. Multiple valleys, peaks, skylights and vents with curated gardens and decks below compounded the project. The project was completed from beginning to end with a high degree of conscientiousness toward quality and care for the overall property. The crew arrived early, worked in a highly productive manner throughout the day, finished each day leaving roof in a no risk protected condition from potential rain or wind and did not leave until all personnel participated in a thorough clean up of debris, including magnetic screening of lawn, gardens and driveways for nails. I have done construction projects in the past, know building codes and felt the crew met/exceeded my expectations. The quote was detailed and the work was completed to high quality standards on budget and on schedule - we got a an excellent value for our expenditure. We had a small roof repair that our house inspection brought to light, though we didn't know that it was small at the time. Our due diligence period was also almost over so any ambiguous roof repair was particularly concerning. Also, potentially complicated due to the existence of solar panels on the roof. Our real estate agent contacted George and he jumped in on the last day of our due diligence, was able to look at our roof via satellite, was able to confirm he'd have enough room for the repair with the solar panels in place, and gave a ballpark before coming out and looking at it himself once the snow was cleared. The estimate was actually less than the original quote and we eventually set up time for the repair to take place. They did a great job, and bonus because they coincidentally installed the original roof so they were able to match it so the patch repair isn't even noticeable. The sellers of our home also had high praise for Austin & Sons! We really appreciated George's quick response to our need. We were understandably concerned but his expertise put us to ease immediately and we moved forward with the purchase. We will be reaching out to replace our siding at some point in the near future, too. We know we'll be in good hands! read more

This is our second roof from Austin. Our two story house took about three days to complete. The owner was immediately responsive to our opening phone calls. They came by first and did laser measurements, then offered us an online array of shingles to choose from. They sent an estimate promptly and then came three days ahead of schedule due to good weather. They showed up promptly and were exceptionally careful of the plants in my garden. They had one guy dedicated to clean up all day! They left my property in perfect shape with a beautiful new roof. We had a slight disagreement on the bill which was quickly resolved. His son who runs the crew called me and let me know he was arriving a day before installation and prepped for the following day installation. I asked about what time they would be on-site the following day and he let me know the time and guess what they arrived to the next day minute! I debated whether to write a review because I didn't want to draw out this experience. However, I do think that Austin & Sons needs to check its communication and customer interfacing, so here is my feedback. I cannot speak to their actual roofing/siding work because we didn't get that far. I am under contract to purchase a home and contacted Austin & Sons to get a quote for a specific area on the roof that needed to be replaced. Our building inspector identified a number of issues with the roof so we wanted to bring in a contractor to give us a quote for next step negotiation with the seller. My realtor made the initial appointment with Austin's and I drove out to meet them at the time they specified. After waiting for 15 minutes, I called their office and was informed that the guy who was meeting us didn't have his GPS and might be lost. They said they would check into it and call me back. 15 minutes after that I got a call from the guy himself and he said he had been there and left already. He arrived 30 min before our appt, spoke with the seller of the property (not to me) and then left. Considering that we had not yet disclosed the feedback from our inspection two days prior, my realtor left explicit instruction that they needed to meet specifically with me. Apparently this information didn't get back to the guy who showed up. I asked if he could come back to the property so I could show him the specific areas of the roof we were interested in (since I have no idea what he looked at while he was there without me and the seller wasn't aware of the reason for his visit) and he said he would check with the office and get back to me. 15 minutes AFTER that (now 45 min since I arrived in the first place) I had received no call back and I called the office again. This time I was annoyed. I spoke with the same lady from before, who then brought over her manager (who had taken the original call from my realtor). Manager lady then told me that she remembered the call from my realtor, and acknowledged that the guy they sent over hadn't received the details about why he was coming. She did say he wasn't going to come back but would send a quote for the work the next morning- I have no idea how he would know what work we wanted done, though, since I wasn't there to speak with him. I explained to her that this was a sensitive case because we were still under negotiation about the property and that conversation with the seller could have jeopardized our negotiations. I was polite, though stern, and the lady got defensive and told me that we should have specifically told her that the roofing guy shouldn't speak with the seller...except my realtor had told her that. Anyway, it would have been nice if she apologized for their terrible communication, but she didn't. So I told her that I would expect the quote the next day and would be in touch after we saw it. The next day, we didn't receive anything so I sent them an email...no response. Today, 4 days after this episode, my realtor received an email stating that they would not be sending a quote because I "was so rude". I am appalled. At the very least should have taken responsibility for their inter-communication mishap. Any potential issues with my negotiation aren't the roofer's fault, but they should be more careful when dealing with customers...period. Austin & Sons had come highly recommended and I expected that level of professionalism. I am extremely disappointed and urge other potential customers to be aware of this in dealings with them. I've never bought a home before and have never hired a contractor for work like this so I really had no idea what to expect. Unfortunately, this experience with Austin & Sons just made an already stressful situation (first time homebuyer) worse. read more

Work location was Porter Maine - I used Austin and Sons for a new roof, the job is fantastic. Cost was reasonable, they came in with 7 people, worked as a great team and finished the job quickly and done well. They showed me their workers comp and building insurance with the quote they gave me. We're courteous and did a very good job cleaning up, you wouldn't know they were even there. I found no bad reviews in regards to their workmanship either on the better business bureau or elsewhere. You want a roof done, right, efficiently and on time, I highly recommend them and would use them again. read more

Was driving in the passing lane just about 15 minutes outside of Portland when the driver of a truck with this business on the side passed my partner and I on the right and flipped us off with both hands. We were passing a big truck in the other lane, but couldn't whiz pass because of traffic ahead. Once this gentleman passed us, he swerved to look past cars ahead, passed other cars to the right, and all within really close proximity to other cars - we noticed folks ahead having to slam on their brakes.
