if i could tell everyone directly, don't go here. i've been going to this spot for a few years, when they were still at the heb front of house. i went this week with a pair of glasses that are about 4 years old, got some extra dollars so i go to update my lenses in my work glasses. the older woman in the front had a smirk on her face when telling me my glasses were too old for me to get updated lenses. i look at their pile of frames to get my lenses in and she tells me it's ILLEGAL to use my prescription for my lenses in if they're a year past exam. it's two months past my exam. i told them before my last appointment my circumstances. that i will no longer have insurance. they did not help me plan and the optometrist has this tiny window for clients, speeds through it makes you anxious for in my opinion, an important piece of every day. can't really get good answers from her when you're in the room with her. they are not for the people yall they are luxury now they are terrible. the older woman in the front literally would not help me at all or work with me, and had a smile on her face too. a horrible experience the weekends past and i'm still angry. she refused to even try to replace my lenses. no help, useless. read more

Is this place still open? I just showed up for an appointment I had made several weeks ago, during regular business hours, and no one was there. The lights were off and the clinic was locked up. No one answered the phone. A complete waste of my time, which is significant because I had to leave work to come here. Edit: in response to the reply below, no. I went to the right location. The name on the door said Austin Eye Studio and it's located inside and adjacent to the grocery store. That is the location that was closed, with no one answering the phone number (512) 953-5838. You walk by the other relocated clinic on the way to this place. I tried calling 6 times while I was standing there outside of the door. I also sent an email and text to this clinic at the moment I tried to show up to my appointment (the business previously discussed the appointment via text so I know they received them), and although I received a Yelp response a week later, to date I have yet to receive any response to my text or email asking about my appointment. read more

I had such a bad experience at this eye studio located in HEB, I still think about it two years later, so I decided to finally post a yelp review. I felt like the optometrist was really degrading and unkind to me, since she was upset with me not throwing out my contacts frequently enough. I think the doctors here should be careful to always be kind to their patients and be respectful, especially when giving medical advice. We then got into an argument since I didn't want to switch my contact brand. I'd recommend anyone looking at this eye studio to reconsider. It has left such a bad memory that I am fearful to return to any optometrist again - although I was able to work myself up to seeing one again this year. If there was a way to give this business no stars I would. Next call BBB Awful, we were bullied, hung up on and they "held up our authorisation" so that we couldn't see another doctor. Huge headache, extremely unprofessional, less than transparent and dishonest.. . Buyer beware, these folks are mean, do not give them your insurance number or a credit card as they will put you through what i went through. Iciing on the cake? These are our neighbours, we live across the street. I found Austin Eye Studio through my new insurance and chose them based on their convenientocation. From my initial call to picking up my new glasses I always felt like I was in good hands. I called and made my appointment with Lori. My glasses broke and newly enrolled in my new insurance plan with no insurance card. Despite that Lori worked with me over the phone to track down my insurance info and explain my benefits. Whew! So relieved! Made my appointment. Appointment day! When I arrived Lori & Dr. Emily were very welcoming. I filled out my paperwork, was promptly taken over for preliminary eye tests, brought to exam room, Dr. Emily came in for exam, she was so warm, and we did the damn thang. New prescription, healthy eyes, no puff of air (AMAZING), and DONE! Painless, easy, comfortable... no white coat syndrome at Austin Eye Studio! It's super cool they offer camera image instead of dialiation, but I opted out because my insurance didn't cover the extra fee. (BONUS: you can take your time shopping at HEB while your eyes get back to normal) Glasses shopping... uhhhh, I was a tough customer. I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and wasn't finding it during my visit. After SO MANY frame vetoes (thank you Lori & Dr. Emily for your patience), we found THE ONE! They weren't exactly what I wanted, but damn close! And after owning them for a few weeks i'm VERY happy with my decision. They're really cute! I TOTALLY forgot to take a pic of my new frames or ask they're exact mfg/style info. I emailed Lori the next day to ask her which frames I bought. Oops! She responded very promptly with all the info I requested. AES is flexible with payment. I was able to put 50% down with remaining 50% due at pick-up. Even though I saved a lot with my insurance it was so helpful to split cost in 2 payments. My insurance didn't cover contact exam, but I can return within 3 months to have that done at an affordable out-of-pocket cost. My experience with Austin Eye Studio was fantastic and I can't recommend then enough. If you need new glasses... give 'em a try! read more

I was amazed after I left today. Any friends and family I am referring to come here. This is the place to go, I know I will tell people this is the best place in Austin. I haven't been to a check up in several years and I am so glad I went to Austin Eye Studio. Dr. Simonek is the only eye doctor I will see from this point on. Let me begin with this is the Best place in Austin to get your eyes checked and for glasses! Everyone is incredibly nice, they truly bend over backwards to make sure you're happy! I had a personal experience there where my wallet got stolen after my eye exam and they were nothing but accommodating when I was flustered. I can't even explain how much I love this place! Both the optometrist and and receptionists are nothing but kind!!! It's also conveniently located in the HEB off Red River so it's also easy to get to if you need to take a bus. This office gets 5-stars alone for all their precautions taken during the pandemic. It took a few tries to get an appointment, with all the restrictions, but the admin/eye technician kept me up to date and made sure I had my appointment secure and settled. All my interactions with her were very pleasant and easy. They made sure to only schedule one patient at a time (they were strict with overlap) and everything looked well sanitized/we all took the time to wash our hands thoroughly. Dr. Simonek was upbeat, informative, and patient. Some of the new technology they used I had never come across before and it was extremely easy and efficient (goodbye horrible burst of air in the eye and dilated pupils!)- super cool! As she showed me my results, she offered up tons of useful information about my results and what I was seeing, in ways that I could understand. I really appreciate this and am naturally curious, so it was nice to not even have to ask. The total services/products were a bit pricier than I imagined but Dr. Simonek/the admin was able to get me the best deal/rebate on better quality contacts and some free contact solution/cases. They did not try to upset me on new glasses, as my current ones still work fine. I have yet to receive the ordered contacts, but from what I was told- they should be here in about a week or so! Dr. Simonek previously assisted me with an exam and new eyewear and I was very pleased with the results. A few days ago my left eye developed odd symptoms possibly related to retina detachment. I stopped in to make an appointment, but she insisted on seeing me immediately due the serious nature of the condition. Hopefully, the situation is temporary, but she set up a follow-up appointment and gave me a referral to a specialist in case my condition worsened. The office is conveniently located inside the Hancock Center HEB, so you can get some grocery shopping done at the same time. They are very flexible with appointment times, and have helped me out on multiple occasions when I had a contact "emergency" and needed a replacement contact when one of my last ones tore or fell out. They have state of the art equipment and it is very clear that Dr. Simonek is knowledgeable and invested in making sure you get the best prescription for your eyes.
