I went to Jackman Eye for almost 30 years. 3 years ago, they left my insurance network and did not inform me. I was confused about the increased cost, but I did not have time to look into it until recently. Then it turns out that they submitted my claims for the last two years (as out of network)...then stopped this year (with no advance notice). They have made multiple mistakes, and told me something different each time I talked to them, and it took me hours to figure out what the problem was. They were very rude about it. He loves his new glasses (okay it took a few days) and the staff made sure to pay extra attention to the fit and give some knowledge on how to take care of the glasses and how to put the straps on and all that jazz. Been coming to this practice since about 2012-2013 when it was Texas State Optical and Dr. Jackman was my eye doc. He was an awesome doctor, and the practice has kept me as a patient because Dr. Tekell has also been amazing. I had Lasik in 2014, so I only go once a year for a check up to make sure nothing has changed. They are always warm and welcoming, and Dr. Tekell takes the time to explain what's going on, answer my questions, and give me advice on best practices to keep my eyes happy and healthy. I have been going to Jackman Eye for years and years, and they always exceed my expectations. Dr. Tekell is so expert and friendly, always taking time to answer questions, engage in conversation, and ensure the best corrections for my aging eyes. This week, I brought my 93-year-old tiny-faced and hard-to-fit mom to their optical shop to find her a new pair of glasses (her first in over 10 years). Never getting my eyes checked elsewhere! As a UT student who is originally from DFW, it's been a hassle to constantly have to wait to go back home for a checkup, in addition to finding the best value for contact lenses. I recently ran out of contacts and had no time to make the 3-hour trek back to Dallas, so I made a last-minute appointment with Jackman Eye. The lady who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helped me set up my appointment with ease. She explained the entire process to me and even let me choose who I wanted to see. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the entire staff and was called into my appointment within 5 minutes, right as I finished the (unbelievably short) paperwork! Dr. Tekell is undoubtedly the BEST optometrist I've had. She was impeccably patient, kind, explained what was going on during every step of the checkup, thoroughly answered all of my questions without making me feel stupid, and even offered me insight that helped me understand optometry. I've been coming here for years, long before Dr Tekell started, and it was my go-to place. After my last doctor finally left the business I took a year and tried to find another optometrist trying two others without success (yes, they're both reviewed here on Yelp.) As I was running out of vision coverage due to a job change and it had been a while since I'd had an exam, I made one again here at Jackman and Dr Tekell performed that. Okay, she's young, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but let me be clear: she's good and she's professional. She gave me a thorough exam, stopping whenever I wasn't clear about something or had a question. She went over the "photo" of my eye explaining what the different colors, lines and shades meant as well as describing what trouble items might look like. And then she explained in response to my query, why lasik probably isn't a good idea for me. Let that last piece sink in a little bit: when was the last time in 21st Century America did you ever hear of a health professional recommend against having a procedure done? That's right: never. We closed with a very clear review of how my prescription changed and what Dr Tekell recommended and I left with no questions. At this point I'm really glad she's young as she'll outlive me, and I'll never have to search for another optometrist again (God, I hope she doesn't move...) Wow, sounds like a great experience, why not five stars? I'm glad you asked: I think five stars means really just can't get better. I give Dr Tekell five stars but the totality of the visit was four. Not that there were problems but the front desk check in was not as smooth as it should have been, and the tech who initially helped me and did some intake with minor tests clearly was unsure about what she was doing. Clean that up, and you've probably got closer to a five star rating, but in totality it was not there. Should you go? Yes. Will you like Dr Tekell as much as me? When I first moved here 10 years ago, I decided to visit Dr. Jackman and I have never shopped anywhere else. For a good reason. The late Dr. Jackman is no longer with us, but his legacy lives on with the staff that have been there for years and Dr. Huser, the new owner is taking great care of patients. I love working with Tony who helps me pick out new glass frame as well as fashionable sunglasses every year. All the staff are wonderful, pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and never pushy about sales. I have been anywhere else, but I'm sure as long as they are in business, I will continue to shop here as long as I have optical needs. Ask how much before you begin. I have 2 insurances and previously (over 5 years) I only paid a copay. Now the prices have gone up and insurance is not covering contact lense prescription. Doctors are nice and so is staff. Eye exam is painless and seems thorough. The check out lady did end up removing the additional $60 charge that was tacked on without my notice. But still sucks to go in for what you think is a covered annual exam with no eye concerns and get a $70 bill. (Since I did not ask for a contact lense prescription.. only the annual exam) There is a bit of a hustle to get you to buy photos of your eyes, glasses and other non covered expenses. I loved Dr. Jackman and I think these ladies are doing a good job but I miss him. read more

I came back here to get an updated prescription and to replace my scratched lenses around June 20, 2018, while I was briefly back in Texas to prepare a house for new tenant rental. This place is still excellent and I have not yet found another eye exam/glasses place like it. Tony is still my absolute favorite guy. He took excellent care of me, and got my new glasses ordered and just the entire experience was just fabulous. I don't know why anyone said Tony harassed them, but I know whoever that was obviously doesn't appreciate good customer service when it's right there in front of them. Tony Tucker is excellent at his job. If what he's been doing to me every time is harassment, then I guess he can "harass" me anytime. I won't be filing any complaints. It is rare these days to find an optometrist's office that has professional staff that are great at their jobs from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave. That is exactly what I found here. The ladies at the counter where you check in were busy with other patients when I walked in, but I was greeted by an optician who took my name, and checked me in for my appointment. I was a new patient, so there was a little bit of paperwork to fill out, but as soon as I was finished I was taken back to the pre-screening area. The tech, Tasha, was great. She guided me through the process. I tend to get really nervous when it comes to the NCT (the machine that puffs air in your eyes), but they don't even use one here! Just the pen that feels like it's touching the edge of your eyelashes. After that I saw Dr. Tekell. What a great doctor! I am a complicated patient. I have small cataracts, my eyes are extremely dry because my tear production is minimal at best, and I have to wear large, rigid contact lenses. Dr. Tekell fit me for some new contacts, explained my cataracts to me, was kind, understanding, all while being very professional. She is a great addition to the practice. We were truly SHOCKED at the recent Eye Exam's visit on 12/21/2017 and we will be SAD and NOT be back with this office due the recent billing policy changes. I have 2 kids having the SAME annual eye exams with Dr. Huser, but were done at different months of 2017. The bill charged for my son ($250 per Eye Exam only) and my daughter ($424 per Eye Exam only). The recent policy changes were NOT presented at the time of visit, therefore we were NOT aware of the changes. We truly LOVE Dr. Jackman, Dr. Huser and the wonderful staffs. We strongly believe the excessive pricing changes within a few months for the SAME eye exam procedure for the SAME family members within the SAME year were ridiculously. We respect the office policy, but this should be discussed and agreed upon prior the service started. We hope Dr. Huser review this feedback and consider the immediate policy changes should be communicated clearly and agreed upon with the customers at the time of service to avoid the SHOCKING charges. read more

I was so sad to hear of Dr. Jackman's passing! I have been going to him for years, and absolutely adored him! When I started with him he told me that my prescription was too strong, so we went a setting weaker, and my halos disappeared instantly.
