UPDATE 2: I reached out to my insurance company, and they provided the CPT code for the procedure based on my description of what was done. According to the information they gave me, the approved amount for that procedure would be about $90. Despite this, the office charged me $550 and did not attempt to submit the claim to insurance. They also billed me for an office visit on the same day--even though my insurance confirmed that I should not have been charged for a separate visit when a procedure was performed. Additionally, the anti‑fungal gel they sold me for $75 is available at another podiatrist's office for $40. UPDATE: The day after I posted this, I received a call from the office. They were very expedient about processing my due refund as requested. I am still waiting to see about the actual procedure claim as I find it difficult to believe the partial nail avulsion has no CPT code as they indicated to me. I was referred to Dr. Patel by my PCP to deal with an ingrown toenail (partial nail avulsion). While I was fairly satisfied with the outcome (though I feel it's already returning, and it has only been 2.5 months), the follow-up information so I can submit a claim to insurance to go toward my deductible has been abysmal. They told me the procedure was not typically covered by insurance, so I'd have to pay out-of-pocket. I also paid for each visit, knowing there would be a difference between what I paid and what insurance would approve (3 visits total, one including the day of the procedure. They charged me for both, a visit and the procedure on the same day). They told me if there was a difference, I could expect a refund for the difference. I later asked for the doctor's tax ID and CPT code for the procedure to submit to insurance. I thought it was a reasonable request. For 2 months my calls, texts, and emails have largely gone unanswered (when they did respond, it was not with the information I requested) and did not respond to requests for the correct info. Additionally, when I went to the portal to see my visit summary, the diagnosis code and procedure where not what had actually occurred during the visit. Between concerns about their billing practices and accuracy of procedure documentation, I am without a doubt, not returning to this practice and would not recommend it to anyone! read more

Never engage with this clinic. They over-charged my daughter for just getting an opinion on her in-grown toe nail condition. They claimed they would not take insurance but still charged my insurance company $320 for the assessment. I've dealt with a variety of foot and back pain over the years and thought I tried everything. Finally, someone recommended that I see an ankle specialist about custom foot orthotics. I was hesitant at first because it seemed crazy that what I wear on my feet could effect my back. After speaking with Dr. Patel and discussing the options we decided to move forward. I can happily say that I was shocked how well it worked. Not only did I not need surgery, but over the next few weeks, the back pain started to recede. I booked a same-day appointment on ZocDoc for a nagging issue on my left foot. The office did take my payment ahead of time, which was a little annoying since they immediately ordered x-rays which will cost more. It will go through insurance anyway, so I will pay the bill when needed. My first degree is an x-ray tech and I wish the protocols for x-ray safety were better here. Overall, my visit with Dr. Patel was good. I felt he had a good bedside manner and listened to my concerns about my foot and activity style. I ended up with stretches, a boot, and a corticosteroid before I have a followup visit in a few weeks. read more

visited this clinic for pain in my foot. The provider evaluated my foot and diagnosed what he believed was a corn. He prescribed two ointments, which I purchased directly from the clinic for $75. While I appreciate that they took time to assess my foot and provide a diagnosis, I was disappointed to find the exact same ointments available on Amazon for $37 -- less than half the price. There was no discussion of pricing beforehand or any mention of alternative options. Although the diagnosis may have been correct, the lack of transparency around the cost of treatment left me feeling like the priority was selling products, not providing patient-centered care. I expected better communication and a greater focus on helping the patient, not just completing a transaction. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to this clinic. read more

The doctor is an excellent front desk, and the service provider is awful. I tried multiple times to get a hold of them through email and phone. Finally, I had to show up in person, and they had received my messages and, off the top of their head, could address my needs, but had no explanation for why they didn't get back to me other than an "ok, sorry, there's a list." I came in today for an appointment with Dr. Nilesh Patel. My appointment was fairly straight forward and check-in was simple as I completed my paperwork before I came in on-line as well as had my insurance information/referral sent to the office the week before my appointment. I had an ingrown toenail on my left great toe (and before ya'll say anything, eyezz takes care of ma' feet). I am no stranger to toenails failing off especially on my great toes as I used to be a marathon/competitive runner and did a lot of running for PT when I was active duty. Further, I used to be an active deep sea diver and have on more than one occasion had a 3500 PSI tank dropped on my toes. However, I believe this toenail faux pas was accredited to my daughter repetitively stepping on my toe. This caused (in my opinion) a subungual hematoma which in turn also caused the lifting of my nail from my nail bed. So.... now here I am after months of my toe swelling and causing me pain, at the office to see Dr. Patel to remove a portion of my toenail to relieve the pressure and pain it was causing. Dr. Patel first anesthetized my toe which hurt like a big dog! Dr. Patel then removed a portion of my toenail. Probably the worst doctor I have ever been to. The doctor Patel I saw essentially put a Band-Aid over arterial spray; didn't even take the time to thoroughly evaluate my issue. Didn't even take x-rays. Charged me $700 for orthotics and when I called back two days later told me it couldn't be canceled. Toe fungus cannot be fixed in 20 minutes. They string me along with a topical solution for months and then told me I really needed a $1500 laser treatment for another year. I paid them and waited. Now all my ties hurt bc Silvia the treatment lady offered to "trim" my toenails. They are butchered to the quick, beyond what a nurse Ratchett could imagine. Horrible. I am very disappointed in the care I received, the charges, and the outcome. While everyone, including Dr. Patel, was pleasant, it still became clear that Dr. Patel had not read my intake nor my information on the rare bone disease I was born with that affects my feet and ankles. I supplied a sheet that clarified my disease and the ramifications of it on my care. So, I was given a night brace that was so painful I only tried it once for 2 minutes (in my sock and the plastic packaging so I would not soil it.) How would I have worn it all night? Even 2 minutes meant my foot cramped and hurt more not less. My PCP had been out of town and I saw her when she returned. She said the brace was useless and worse possibly long term harmful. Dr Patel seemed to hurry to a conclusion, not read relevant supplied 1 page material nor suggest we consult an expert. I was charged $100 for the brace and despite it being totally unused they will not refund my money. Worse yet my initial post to their portal was never replied to and none of my concerns about my care addressed. They are obviously unable to be professional and reply to portal messages nor properly consider their prescriptions. read more

I love this doctor... I showed up 45 mins early for my appointment and they took me right in! Then when I got back to the room I thought I'd have to wait... but no, the doctor came in about 5 mins after I sat down. So I'm about 50% better... my job requires too much walking and it is making me heal slower! So I had to get an ankle splint that stretches my Achilles' tendon at night. Luckily the have them right here... no running around to find one and I can start stretching things tonight! The doctor is really nice... explains everything completely and doesn't mess around. I get the feeling he knows time is valuable... I appreciate that! Looks like this is going to be a while to fully recover... but I am a lot better already! I had previously seen a different podiatrist and they bought his practice and have had several problems the last few months. 1. They won't take patient questions over the phone. 2. They can't print statements for payments out. If you have flexible spending no proof of payment can be printed besides credit card receipt which they won't accept. I work in the medical field and am a patient at several different practices and have never had this problem. I recommend finding someone who has a team that cares about patients and wants to help them instead of every answer being we don't do that. read more

First off do not fill out the online forms. They just make you fill out all the forms again when you reach the office. Total waste of time. In fact I suggest not giving them your email and text number as they bombarded me with useless and annoying text messages and emails. After receiving many messages to be on time, I arrived 15 minutes early as instructed only to find the office closed. When the staff finally wandered in, we did not get into the exam room until 40 minutes after the appointment time. I have been going to Austin Foot and Ankle for quite a few years and was always happy with the treatment. When I went back in September 2022, they charged $320 for an office visit claiming I was a new patient. When I inquired about the billing I was told since I had not been in the office for over 2 years, I was considered a new patient. The standard charge is $150. Then I went back due to ongoing issues with my foot and received a bill for $610 and called to ask what the charges were for; they were unable to tell me and insisted they were correct. One of the charges was for an injection for $105 which I did not have, and the office girl insisted I did. The only service I had was an office visit and was given a brace for my foot. The charge for the brace was not on the bill I received. When trying to work this out with them, I asked to talk with the Doctor and was told that would not be possible. I sprained my right pinky toe on a few weeks ago and when it started to look worse, I made an appointment to see Dr. Raemsch. While he had a good bedside manner, I was extremely upset with this practice's predatory billing practices. In addition to my insurance copay, I was charged nearly $20 out of pocket for "toe strapping." After I had removed my initial tape that I had used to buddy tape my toe (so Dr. Raemsch could take a look at it), he proceeded to retape the two toes. This was done without my consent and without my knowledge that it would carry an additional charge beyond my insurance copay. I find it insulting to have been charged nearly $20 to "strap" toe of my toes together using a piece of 5-inch tape that doesn't even cost $1, and takes the skill of a 5-year-old to apply. After calling and speaking with the practice's billing coordinator, I was informed that I'd receive a check in the mail to refund the $20 charge, but this was over two weeks ago and my follow up calls have remained unanswered and ignored. Beware of this practice's billing and consider seeing a different podiatrist at a different practice. read more

Don't ever go here. The front office staff is incompetent beyond your wildest belief. It took me getting another bill for a co-pay to even remember these people. First I show up for my appointment and they tell me I'm in the wrong place, mind you the girl at the front didn't look me up beyond the piece of paper in front of her. I walk out and pass the front window and then look at the text confirmation I got from them and walk right back in and go "hey isn't this you guys?" Sure enough I was at the right place despite the girls insistence I wasn't. Her attitude the entire time was horrendous and was attempting to make me feel stupid even though she was in the wrong. Then I get a bill for the remaining co-pay amount and was confused initially because I blocked out my horrible experience with this office and have moved on to a much more competent podiatrist office, I call in to the office just to confirm what was up and the girl for the billing department continually cut me off and interrupted me when I was actually just trying to ask a question, oh and before they attempt to respond and try and get snarky, I absolutely cussed when on the phone out of frustration, these people suck that much. Oh and the Dr. didn't even help me with issue and just brushed it off as I "possibly" sprained my ankle. Save yourself some time and run away from these people as fast as you possibly can. read more

I would give them zero stars, if I could. Don't EVEN THINK about using Dr. Rajan Patel. He spends about 5 minutes with you, tells you what he THINKS is wrong and what he recommends. But other than the first time, he never shows you the xrays. You wear a boot for 6 weeks and he comes in and tells you it's healed, even though you tell him your foot is still killing you. He tells you to just give it time. Then you get an email with the notes from the visit and they have all kinds of things written in them that were never discussed, as well as saying that I said the foot felt MUCH better. (Absolute lie.) He also recommends custom orthodics, you let him take the video to make them and you sign paperwork. They charge you $575, then tell you they will not file it with your insurance (even though they have filed it each time before.) I pay the $575 and ask for an itemized receipt (which I have asked for each visit, but have never received), I am told that the insurance department has to send it. I never receive it. Two days later, my foot is still killing me, so I get in with an orthopedic foot doctor. Guess what...I have another broken bone. I call them immediately and tell them I want a refund for the orthodics and am told they will issue a full refund. Three business days later it has not showed up on my CC, so I call them, only to be told they will only refund $350. I argue and am told I signed paperwork, informing me of that. (I never received a copy of that paperwork.) (Obviously, I didn't read the paperwork, throughly, though.) The moral of this story is RUN AWAY, don't walk into his office. P.S. My ortho doctor said they make orthodics for $375 and they file the insurance. read more

Dr. Nilesh Patel performed bunion surgery on my foot several years ago. I think it was in about 2013 or 2014. My sister had surgery there several years before and recommended the place. Unfortunately the doctor who performed the surgery on her had retired and sold the practice to the two Patel's. I had all kinds of warning signs on my first visit including the incredibly rude woman at the reception desk and other things I saw. I kept telling myself that my sister had recommended the place so I ignored all the signs. That was the worst mistake I have ever made in my 70+ years. When I went back one week after the surgery the entire foot was so sensitive you couldn't touch it with as feather. There was severe nerve damage. The doctor had no idea what he had done. X-rays showed the screws had started backing out. A few weeks later he went back in and removed the screws. The pain and sensitivity remained. I went to a neurologist who confirmed the nerve damage. Since then I have been suffering with this foot. It has really negatively impacted my retirement. I went to an orthopedic surgeon for help. He operated and severed a nerve in the foot. That helped with the extreme sensitivity but did not solve all the problems. Recently I have been seeing a podiatrist who is injecting a diluted alcohol solution into the foot that kills the nerves. That has helped some more. Medical professionals have a code that says they are never to talk badly about other medical professionals. But I did see one who confirmed that I made a terrible mistake by going to this place. The lessons I learned are this: Do not have bunion surgery unless you absolutely have to. I didn't really need to have it but Dr. Patel was happy to do it whether you needed it or not. Unless you want to spend years with pain, avoid this place like the plague. read more

Pantel listened to me and took good care of me after a whole month in half working with another doctor spending time and $ taking off work etc. he gave me the shot I needed felt instant gratification so appreciative. Him and his assistant to great care of me he said to stay off my foot for a few days. easy stretches and rest! he told his assistant after we were done to write down any limitations I might need for my work note and to schedule me back next week to see how my foot is doing before he leaves for xmas break which shows he cares for his patients and work! So glad I choose here don't go to Bluebonnet my review is to long for there but basically the dr went off of another patients X-ray and charged me for it plus I had to take time off of work and listened to all his instructions based of that. Was in pain over 2month and a month and half dealing with that i think Dr. BK from bluebonnet should retire or focus more on his work if he's too busy and made that mistake which he said he did and apologize for it but that's bull. Dr Harvey Lisch has been the only foot doctor I have ever seen, and so far, I have no complaints with him. He's kind, personable, thorough, and very good at explaining things. I have what seems to be a somewhat strange problem with my calves which is impacting my lower back and feet, and he is helping me work through it and find some sort of treatment that will help. He also doesn't hesitate to say that I "walk like a duck", which I find funny, because (and let's be honest), I always have. The only reason I can't give a 5 is because of some of their office practices. They have signs up everywhere that say not to use your cell phones because it messes with the medical equipment. Let's face it -- everyone knows that it would be some shoddy equipment indeed if playing with a smart phone in the lobby really had any affect on it. I understand that the doctor wants your undivided attention, and considering you're paying him for his time, you should give him that attention. But that's what the signs should say -- something along the lines of "Please put your cell phone away and give your doctor you undivided attention." The office staff is also really big about closing the plastic window when they're not talking to someone specifically. I've never understood this practice. Are they worried about getting robbed? Do we smell bad? Or is that just their way of saying "I'm not talking to you right now"? Either way, they'll shut it right in your face as soon as they've said the last thing they're going to say. It's kind of off-putting. I've also never consistently waited longer past the appointment time at any other doctor's office. I've been here three times, and each time I've had to wait about half an hour past my appointment time before I saw the doctor. That said, Dr Lisch always spends plenty of time with me, and if a 30 minute wait is the price I pay to have the time I need to get things resolved, then I'll gladly pay it. read more

Cons: Came in with foot injury that persistently would not heal, previous doctor just prescribed anti-inflammatories and mostly avoided eye contact. Dr. Lisch was much nicer and actually talked to me, but after sending me to get an MRI, whose conclusions seemed vague, he continued use of anti-inflamatories. This caused gastritis and the worst headache I've ever had. Stopped going to Dr. Lisch. Took it to a recommended specialist who put me on very minor physical therapy and was walking two days later. Dr. Patel was good. The problem is when it came to billing. I was charged so much for a simple wrap on my foot that I just took off as soon as I got home. I had no idea they would charge me for a wrap that was about just five inches of tape that was supposed to help my flat foot. When I went to check out, they first wanted to charge me for both feet. I let the lady know that it was only one foot, and she didn't take my word. She had to call the assistant who confirmed what I told her. They charged me something like $40.00 (I forget how much exactly), and this is with my full coverage medical insurance. They also charged me for some cream medication, which I didn't mind paying. Before with Dr. Lisch, I never had to pay these fees. I had the same insurance. It was a simple copay and that is it. I was mainly disappointed how I never agreed to pay for anything, but I was still charged for the products especially the useless tape. read more

I hurt my foot out on Lake Austin stepping off the dock on to our boat. My wife has seen Dr Randy Lisch in the past. I called to make an appointment and they told me Dr Lisch is out on medical leave. His partners were available so I scheduled an appointment the next day. I was seen by Dr Patel. He was very professional and his assistant was really nice and on the ball. I went to Dr. Randy Lisch for the first time ten years ago. He relieved me of some foot pain, first with cortisone shots and finally with a quick surgical procedure to remove two cysts from the top of my left foot. Didn't have any problems after that. The scarring was minimal. I have to look really hard to find it these days. A month ago, I had an issue with my heel. Turns out to be another cyst. So far, so good with the cortisone shot. Dr. Lisch and his brothers (Mark is in Houston and did the follow-up) are fantastic! They are extremely knowledgeable, know how to explain things in layman's terms and they put you at ease no matter the case. read more

I hurt my foot on the set of a movie I was working on, and it caused very serious pain. I tried working through it, but couldn't. I went to Dr. Randy Lisch, and he INSTANTLY knew what the issue was. He is a foot wizard! Not only did he tell me exactly what was wrong, but he made me laugh and feel amazingly comfortable while telling me. Being a doctor is NOT all about diagnosing and treating, it is also about warm customer interactions, and Dr. Lisch has it DOWN!!! Horrible experience today, following two not-so-great previous experiences, which resulted in me walking out halfway through the office visit. I've been going to a podiatrist for 20+ years and this is the first foot specialist that didn't touch my feet. Not once. He didn't review how I walk or check my accessory vehicular bone. I explained that it had been a really long time since I had seen my last podiatrist, that my custom insoles had broken, and I'd been experiencing a little discomfort after starting to work out more, due to the bone and my plantar fasciitis. He told me about the custom orthotics and took a video of my foot, which would be sent to a company to make the custom orthotics, he explained that next time we saw each other would be for a fitting and I confirmed that all of that was included in the orthotics price(over five hundred dollars). That first appointment was at 7AM, I left by 7:15 having paid for the orthotics and new patient consult (over six hundred dollars total). It was his first appointment of the day and he seemed disinterested and wanting to get to the next person. I receive a call to schedule a pick up the orthotics and am told that there are not a lot of available appointments for Dr. Patel to see me so I moved my schedule to accommodate the doctors next availability to pick up the insoles. When I arrive, I am handed the orthotics by a nurse/office assistant and am told that Dr. Patel will see me in two weeks for a fitting. I inform the nurse that I was told I would see him this appointment, which I had moved my schedule to accommodate, and they basically tell me that I'm wrong. I provide them feedback on my new patient consult and this most recent appointment, where I had been misinformed that I would see the doctor, when really I just needed to pick up the orthotics and try them out for two weeks. I come in to today's fitting appointment and am a few minutes late, which I apologize for, and the same nurse/office assistant lets me know that I can pay for the office visit after. I inform here that I did not know there would be a fee associated with this visit and thought it was covered under the cost of the orthotic. She rudely told me she would never say that because it isn't. In my mind, I thought they had taken my feedback and I would get an actual consultation with the doctor with a proper fitting, making sure that my walk looks right in the orthotics, etc. Instead, Dr. Patel asks me to explain why I "don't seem very happy", so I explain to him that I had different expectations of the appointment based on previous experiences with similar specialists and that's about as far as I get before he repeatedly and incessantly interrupts every sentence before I finish it. I have to explicitly ask him if he will let me finish my point and when I start to speak again he continues to interrupt me. After he does this numerous times, I just tell him that "I think we both know this isn't going to work out, excuse me, I'm leaving" and he decides to continue talking AT me in the hallway as I'm trying to leave. He brings up money (it's the insurance's fault, they decide the fees), and that he is known for really listening to his patients and finally remarks on his positive ratings online. My last response to him is that it must have been great for the rest of his patients but that I was not treated with respect and spoken over multiple times. This is the first attempt that Dr. Patel makes to apologize to me, in his hallway/waiting room in front of an audience of people, rather than in the private consultation room where I had tried to explain to him my concerns. Cons: Dr. Patel is disrespectful, interrupts you and is condescending, he will gaslight you if you give any feedback that isn't favorable, you may see hidden or never-communicated additional fees, and he likely won't touch your feet or look at the way you walk. This review is for Dr. Raemsch specifically, as he confirmed an appointment via ZocDoc for 7/6 at 11am and then was not there when we arrived. We tried calling the office directly in addition to ZocDoc, but were unable to reach him. We are extremely disappointed, as this careless confirmation wasted 2 hours of our time that we can never get back and further delayed care for my husband's painful foot injury. Now we have to pay out of pocket to go to an emergency care clinic since it is too late to book an appointment with another provider. Doctors have good manner. Office staff is decent. There are a few toenail remnants along the baseboards, but I've found that to be the case in every podiatrist office I've visited. I was seen most recently by Raemsch a couple of weeks ago. He looked really tired, like he was trying to stay awake. My complaint is about the billing. They try to sell you over-the-counter things from their office which are drastically marked up. Do your research! The Dr. Remedy nail polish and even the supplements are available to order directly. I returned my bottle and ordered it myself. The same issue remains with orthotics, nail polish, and other creams. They told me one item could only be obtained through a doctor's office. I walked out the door and ordered the exact same thing online. If they would just be honest about it, I would think more highly of them. Honesty and trust are extremely important to me when choosing a doctor. I will be reporting all of this up-selling to the doctor who gave me their name, the referring doctor.
