I had an awesome experience as a first time, high risk mom-to-be. My provider was Dr. Bednar. She was thorough, always willing to stay in the room with me and answer any questions I had without me feeling like she was inching for the door. The front desk staff and sonographers were always incredibly kind. I always appreciated how vocal the sonographers were when they were performing their scans so I felt included in the experience. And they always tried to capture some good photos to take home. If we have baby number two down the road, I'll definitely come back to see Dr. Bednar. read more

Horrible office experience so far. Was referred over a week ago and was told by my doctor I'd be contacted to schedule. It's been almost a week with no call. I got the number & called yesterday and was told they "just received additional paperwork that's under review and would get a call later that afternoon." Nothing. Called AGAIN this morning and was told the SAME thing but this time I could schedule. Can't be seen for ANOTHER week, so now it'll be going on 2 weeks since my initial lab work, no idea what my levels are, if baby is okay and I'm already 33 weeks. No urgency and concerned the quality of care is lacking. I hope my visit makes up for the office incompetence. read more

Not recommended unless you like to be late at least 30 minutes. Do not believe in their appointment if they tell you 1PM you may enter around 2PM if you are lucky will be 1:30PM. I was on a payment plan, had my baby and had paid everything off. A year later I received another random bill from this place. Dr. Adusumalli was our MFM doctor during our high risk pregnancy. He was fantastic - direct, knowledgeable, and most importantly, helped us accomplishing our goal of reaching early term. Reports were always sent promptly to our OBGYN and his next steps were always crystal clear. While it's never easy when your pregnancy becomes high risk, I believe this group of doctors does a great job in facilitating care when the unexpected happens. read more

Pregnancy is terrifying. You heard it here first. I've been diabetic for over half my life, so when I became pregnant, I knew I had to be aggressive with having a healthy pregnancy. My OB recommended me to Dr. Adusumalli. There are so many horror stories out there about doctors leaving you hanging or them not caring about you, I can absolutely say that is not the case here. Everyone I have encountered in this office is nothing short of amazing. From the lovely people at the front desk, to the nurses, and especially the doctors. Dr. Adusumalli is probably the smartest person I've ever met. I've had a couple of scares here and there and he has always called me back after hours (bless him), or takes all the time to answer my questions. He is very pragmatic and tells you the facts, while still having a sweet demeanor. How? I don't know how, but I am so glad he is in my corner. I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy and am kind of sad I have to find an endo to help monitor my diabetes after delivery instead of him. read more

At 32 weeks, I was told by my OB GYN that my baby was in the 10th percentile for her age and that my baby might be an "IUGR baby." She recommended that I go to Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine and told me that they were at the Cedar Park location on Mondays and Thursdays (it also happened to be on the same floor as the OB GYN, in the same building). My husband and I were of course concerned, so we scheduled an appt for 3pm on Thursday afternoon. At 2:15, I received a call from their office saying that they had a cancellation and could I please come any sooner (sounded like they wanted to get out of there). When my husband and I got there, we were confused because the sign out front by the door was for facial surgery. Then my husband pointed out that there was a cardboard sign on the other side of the door that said "Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine." We arrived at 2:45 and instantly put off by the cold atmosphere. It was a ghost town. The lady at the front desk asked if I could go hurry and fill out the paperwork...so I did. I had only gotten through the first page before she said "come on back - you can finish the paperwork later." I asked if there was anyone that I could speak with someone in billing (I wasn't sure if they were in network, how much the rates were, etc). She said no, they were contracted through an ultra sound company and not affiliated with the doctor's office and could not give me any information on billing, but that I needed to complete the paperwork (uhhhhhhh). I went to the back and I will say, the ultra sound tech was very nice (I've been seen by 5-6 of them by now at this office and they've all been great). We had a 45-min ultra sound sesh...when I finally asked if there was a doctor in the office that was going to talk to me about my baby. That's when I couldn't believe my ears. She said "oh, there's no doctor here. You'll receive a doctor consultation via 'Facetime...but like HIPAA Facetime." Just. Wow. My husband and I looked at each other and could not even believe our ears. We were at a high risk maternity doctor appt, concerned about our unborn child and there's not even a doctor in the office?! SO then we had a VERY CHOPPY Skype consultation with Dr A. I couldn't understand every other word, so clearly I couldn't ask my questions. I was so put off! They then said I needed to deliver around 37 weeks and that I needed to come in 2x/week until delivery to monitor the baby. No thanks! I did not want to go to that office ever again! After the appt, I immediately called my OB GYN, told the admin my story and asked for another referral. My OB GYN's office discouraged a referral and said that the doctors were friends (uh?). So I was planning on doing the research myself the following day and cancelling the appt I had made for the following Monday. I then received an after hours call from Dr A apologizing for the experience. He said it was a scheduling error (though the ultra sound tech told me that this was something their office was trying out - presumably to book 2x the number of patients so that they could be in the Austin & CP office at the same time). When I asked about billing, he said he cared about my baby and wanted to make it right and that I would not see a bill from his office. Because I had literally complained that I wanted to see another doctor, I took this to mean...that I would literally not see a bill from his office. Wrong. The charge to my insurance for my first appt (4/20/17) with contracted ultra sound tech and 3-min choppy Skype sesh was $1,439; my insurance did not cover $427 of it, so it went toward my deductible. Joy. Last Thursday, Dr A was replaced by Dr D. I had to go in at 7:45am (because they are only present during the mornings). I had my appt with the ultrasound tech, per usual and then got to wait in the waiting room until the doctor rushed in around 9:20am. A couple minutes later, I had my in-person consult with Dr D. She looked very flushed and rushed. She said "everything looks good. Any questions?" Her eyes were darting everywhere like she had a million other things to do. I felt like again, I had wasted my time at another useless appt. On Friday (5/5/17), I decided to check my insurance to make sure I wasn't actually being charged for these appts, like Dr A had said I would not be. I was pretty SHOCKED to see that for 4 visits, I had been charged $5,128 for 4 appts in which the doctor had not even been present for one of them. $1,518 of it is not covered under my insurance! I texted Dr A about this immediately (see screenshot attached). To me, the response indicates that...the 4 appts (and subsequent would be taken care of). Nope! At today's useless appt, he told me that he meant he'd waive the first appt...which I was charged for. Needless to say, I've cancelled my final appt for this week. They haven't told me any info that my OBGYN didn't originally tell me - monitoring a baby shouldn't cost $1200-1500 2x/wk! Insanity. What a scam. read more

I can not recommend Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine, specifically Dr. Robert Johnston, enough. I had an overwhelmingly positive experience there throughout my entire pregnancy. I was considered high-risk and had quite a few a appointments, and after every one, I always felt reassured that my baby was going to be delivered healthy and safely. Dr. Johnston was always professional and very kind; he obviously genuinely cares about the health and well being of his patients - the mothers and their babies - and always went the extra mile to make sure I had all of my questions answered and all of the information I needed. I feel so lucky to have had him as my doctor and I will forever remember him as someone who helped me get through a difficult pregnancy and end up with a beautiful baby boy. read more

Dr. Horton is hands down the best doctor I have ever had. She is extremely smart and thorough. She is the first doctor I've ever had to sit with me, read through all of my medical records, and have a very in depth conversation that lasted almost an hour. She is also very understanding, validating, and really listens - I cannot describe how amazing this feels when you have had/are going through a traumatic pregnancy. Under Dr. Horton's care, you can feel confident that she will do everything in her power to make sure mom and baby are both healthy, and will also be there if things don't go as planned. Aside from how awesome she is - she currently offices out of the South Austin location and is the only doctor in this facility. My appointment was mid-day, and it started EARLY! I know... wow! They seem to be very on-top of scheduling at this location. read more

I started going to the clinic for weekly BPP ultrasound and consultation with Dr. Sina Haeri after I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during late stage of pregnancy. Dr. Haeri is one of the best doctors I have ever met. He is very to the point and explains everything in details. Also, I loved the ultrasound technicians Jacky and William, they are very skilled and knows what they are doing. I would highly recommend this practice. read more

Though I was under the care of the Austin Area Birthing Center, I had several appointments here. 1 - AABC was between ultrasound techs so they were temporarily sending patients here. 2 - At 36 years old, it was recommended I do genetic testing. 3 - baby didn't come until almost 42 weeks so I required some additional monitoring towards the end. No complaints about any of the doctors or techs I interacted with and Dr. Haeri was a standout. He made us feel instantly comfortable both with his knowledge and his humor. There was always parking, free coffee in the lobby, appointments always started on time (and were easy to make if I needed to do so there in the office), and results - if applicable to your care - were delivered within the time frame promised. read more

The staff here is incredibly friendly & helpful. I'm the (perhaps) overly supportive & involved husband of one of their patients. We ended up here 2x a week ... smiling & always welcoming folks. Only once did we wait 30 minutes before being seen. Honestly, it's unprecedented patient care. Saw all their docs at least once & bedside manner & patience with the patient were stellar. Dr. Destefano is the epitome of what a physician should be. Super caring, involved & always took time to answer questions. My wife cried near our last visit b/c she grew to appreciate her concern & help. This is our 5th child & my mom is a heart surgery nurse elsewhere in Texas. We're no strangers to doctors, hospitals, etc. I can say unequivocally that this practice is unrivaled & unequaled, start to finish, in Central Texas. read more

With an appointment at hand, their average wait time for a patient (well at least for me and my wife over the past 5 mos) has been as follows: 1) After check-in and before being called in by the Nurse: ~40 mins 2) After being taken in by Nurse and Nurse departing and waiting for Ultrasound Tech to walk in: ~20 mins 3) Since the time Ultrasound Tech leaves and High Risk OB comes into the room: ~20 mins So outside of the actual time the Nurse, Ultrasound Tech and the OB take, you have to budget an extra hour and 10 mins (at least). After continually seeing the pattern, I complained to Dr. DeStefano (apparently the BIG BOSS there) who also happens to be our High Risk OB. She said they were trying to improve the wait times, they were short staffed and that we should ask for the first appointments of the am or pm to minimize our wait time. Well, we are going to give that a shot and see if there is an improvement in all of the wait time. Will update this review after our next visit (scheduled for 4 wks) from today should the situation improve. If it doesn't change, well so then does this review i.e. stay unchanged here on Yelp. Hopefully it will help folks avoid this place when they do not have the luxury of wasting 2.5 - 3 hrs at this establishment per appointmnent. read more

I am so happy I was referred here (SOUTH AUSTIN center) My ultrasound with Lucy was an incredible experience. She was so knowledgeable and kind and explained everything she was seeing with so much patience and passion. She made my experience feel important and clearly loves her job. Everyone should get to have an ultrasound with her! Then Dr. Haeri came in with a joke and a re-assuring nature and informed me of what he saw in the ultrasounds and available options with care and kindness. Check in check out was a friendly breeze. Facility is super clean and high tech. This place is for sure 5 stars! read more

My OB referred me to Dr. Adusumalli as I am of "advanced maternal age." I had my first appointment today (12 weeks). I read a few of the reviews (and the filtered one) here on Yelp and they made me think the worst. But we had a very different experience there. We arrived a few minutes early to fill out paperwork. We were taken to the ultrasound room after a few short minutes. I filled out another form, and the nurse pricked my finger for the Down's syndrome test. Then they got me ready for the ultrasound. It lasted about 30 minutes. The tech tried to get every angle and all body parts. She took five photos for us to share. Then, Dr. Adusumalli arrived and did a short ultrasound check on me as well. He informed us of some additional optional tests but said everything looked "beautiful" so he wasn't recommending those tests based on what he had seen. We were in and out in less than one hour. The facility was sleek and modern, and smelled nice. It could not have gone better. Oh, and they have valet parking service, which I am sure will be nice to take advantage of as I get further along in my pregnancy. I will be going every four weeks till I am 32 weeks' pregnant, then once a week after that, so I will be seeing a lot of this place over the next few months. I feel fortunate to have such a convenient and professional facility like Maternal Fetal Medicine as part of my pregnancy care. read more

This place excels at customer service. When you arrive, you will be met with the sweetest soul, Cynthia. She always makes you feel welcome and is very mindful about saying certain private information quietly. She will even tell you if there is a wait, and ask if you're hungry so she can give you a snack. Once in the room, the nurses will perform the ultrasound. Some nurses are more experienced and personable than others. We've only had one less than stellar experience, she was a little scattered and forgot a few things. Then once results are ready, you'll get to meet the wonderful doctors. Who are funny but professional, sympathetic and knowledgeable. They weigh the pros and cons with you and explain the next steps thoroughly. You truly feel like you're in good hands and leave with the confidence you're making the right choices for yourself and your baby. I will note we had one bad doctor experience here. The way he spoke it was snooty and he tried to use very technical terms without explaining them. Like he will say you have placenta previa but it's not too concerning and never explain what that is. If it's your first pregnancy you may not know what it is. He rushed past things without explaining and used unnecessary wordy phrases like "pelvic rest intercourse." I was so confused thinking is this a specific sex position we had to do? I've heard of pelvic rest but never joined with intercourse. Basically means no sex. He just gave off a very snooty vibe. We changed doctors obviously. read more

I loved this practice! Dr. Haeri is an amazing physician! I wished he could have delivered my twins. Dr. Haeri was always very honest and straightforward with me and had the absolute best bedside manner I've ever seen, and I've been in healthcare for 15 years). Everyone in the office was always friendly, helpful, respectful, and very professional. Will, the sonographer was so nice and patient. Let me just say that if you are going in because you are carrying twins, don't expect a 30 minute visit. My appointments were 1-2 hours long. But, I got to see my girls heart, listen to each chamber beating, and watch them grow through the sono! As stressful as it can be having a high risk pregnancy, my experience with this practice and Dr. Haeri reassured me that we were in good hands! If I were to ever need another high risk OB I would be back here hands down! Heck I'd fly in to see thee Dr.'s if I moved away! My twins were born at 30 weeks. As I was walking to my car from the NICU a couple weeks after they were born I ran into Dr. Haeri on the sidewalk and he cared enough to stop me and ask how I was doing! I was referred to them at 28 weeks due to possible IUGR. I was so nervous my first appointment as my last pregnancy was a complete cake walk resulting in a big healthy baby at the end. They were so professional and reassuring. Everyone from nurses to ultrasound to doctors have been super kind and helpful. They explain why they are recommending what they are recommending, what to expect and info about the diagnosis. Don't get me wrong...I still hate going every week. I'm a toddler mom who also works full time outside of the home but I do have to say they explained the importance well and make it as comfortable as possible. I usually have my toddler in tow and they are all very patient with her and provide toys in the lobby and each exam room. She actually gets really excited to go because there is a toy in the lobby she loves. They also have always been right on time. I totally appreciate this. Here's to hoping you don't have complications but if you do you can trust you are in good hands! read more

1. Cost $895 for a fetal and transvaginal ultrasound 2. Unwilling to negotiate prices 3. I was told that due to carrying extra weight in my mid-section I would need to come back 3 more times for 3 additional fetal ultrasounds to measure the growth of my baby because measuring my belly with a tape measure could result in inaccurate readings. Lucky for Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine these appointments cost over $300. I reached out to my primary care physician, my OB, and multiple doula's on this matter all of them telling me that this was unnecessary. If I was having a healthy normal pregnancy this was not needed. This should be a practice for helping mothers have an empowering pregnancy but it's the opposite, they use fear tactics and then charge you ridiculous rates. I was referred here by Hill Country OBGYN for a routine 2nd trimester anatomy scan. read more

Its unfortunate to have to see a specialist during your pregnancy. This usually means there is some kind of risk involved. I was terrified of being sent to FMM. I have had three other pregnancies that were smooth sailing from pregnancy to delivery. Then my last pregnancy came about..and wow... it was interesting to say the least. Dr. A was always there to be reassuring and honest. I felt like I was truly in great hands, and I was. He has great bedside manner and leaves no question unanswered. The front desk staff were some of the friendliest and most efficient I've encountered. They came around to all of the patients in the waiting room with a big basket of snacks, and left it out for us. I hadn't had lunch and was getting nauseous, so I appreciated that. Within 5 minutes of having my initial paperwork filled out, I was called back by a nurse. Impressive! The sonographer was also in the room within 5 minutes of the nurse finishing my vitals - so fast, in fact, that she caught me snooping in the cabinet for a cup for water. When I explained, she insisted on bringing me a bottle of water before we started the ultrasound. During the scan, she explained everything thoroughly and got some *great* pictures for us. Dr. Haeri was in to see us less than 10 minutes after our u/s was over. He is hands down the most personable doctor I've ever had an appointment with, and I've had many! He immediately made us feel at ease, like we were chatting with an old friend. He was very confident and firm in his recommendations for us, while explaining all options in a way we could easily understand. Overall, I would highly recommend this practice. The facility is new and very nice, every staff member we encountered was kind and competent, and we feel our baby is in the best possible hands. read more

Sometimes the wait is long, sometimes they see you early, it just depends. Getting through to the office by phone is a HUGE pain in the you know what, and if you get put on hold, you might have to wait up to 10 minutes because they forget you. Other than that, the doctors are great, the sonographers and nurses are awesome. I saw Dr. Singh, a new doctor at the practice. He's AWESOME and very sweet. The only reason they got a four from me was Dr. Singh and the sonographers who were personable, friendly, and very skilled at their job. Beware getting put on hold. That's my only huge complaint. This place will scam you. I was sent here for first trimester screening, told it would be covered by two different providers. Called the office to try to get a quote on how much it would be with my insurance, just to make sure. Was told they don't do that. As in, they don't take the time to find out what you insurance will cover so it's just a surprise when you get the bill in the mail. After the doctor told me the test would be covered by insurance, I received a bill for hundreds of dollars because they sent the blood work to an OUT OF NETWORK LAB. RIDICULOUS. read more

It's clearly a very busy practice but she takes time with patients and you feel that she is looking at you individually which is so important. She will explain anything that you need her too. I am quite disappointed with this office! My wife was sent here by her OB to have an ultrasound. They took our insurance card like everything was fine and then told her to come on back. The whole time they acted like there was no issue at all and the service was covered, then two weeks later we get a $932 bill in the mail. Of course, their fail safe is that we are all forced to sign the financial compliance agreement saying that we will pay whatever they charge, without giving any kind of price up front. As medical professionals, you would think that they would work to better peoples lives rather than add stress. read more

I am just 2.5 weeks away from delivery of my second child. Around 22 weeks I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and referred by my OB to NAMFM. I called to set up my first appointment. The young lady on the phone was amazing. She was kind and suggested two different physicians that could see me quickly, knowing I wanted to get in quickly to make sure the GD was under control. She asked if I had a preference for a man or a woman and suggested one of each that could see me the following week. She definitely put me at ease about the diagnosis and even offered to let me talk with a nurse prior to the appointment if it would make me feel better. I chose to see Dr. Haeri. I was thrilled at the first appointment how open, honest and kind he was. He totally put both my husband and I at ease about the diagnosis and what we could do to control it as well as what was out of our control that he would be helping with. I have seen about 7 of the sonographers there and each one has been great!! They are very relaxed, sensitive, personal and kind. Each one has done and amazing job of pointing out what they were doing, looking for and why it was important. The practice runs on time and you're seen promptly or informed immediately if there is a delay. I have found everyone I have encountered from doctor to front desk to be very nice! I am very happy to have been referred here for my treatment. I know I am in good hands. read more

Exceptional service and care! This was my first visit (I'm 13 weeks) and one of the best experiences I've had at an OB/GYN. I arrived about ten minutes before my scheduled appointment and wasn't even able to finish the paperwork before they called me back to take my vitals and blood. A few moments later the nurse came in and performed the most thorough ultrasound I've ever had done. Not long after she left Dr. DeStefano came in and explained what to expect from the results of the screening, possible issues that could arise during the pregnancy and how those issues could be addressed. It was a great experience and I wouldn't want to see any other MFM during my pregnancy. Highly recommend!! read more

My OBGYN referred me to Dr. Singh for a couple of potentially very serious placenta issues, and I could not be happier that he has been my high risk doctor through this process. From my first appointment with him, Dr. Singh was very thorough, knowledgeable and calm. He has a great demeanor that made me feel at ease. He explained very clearly what he was monitoring, what the condition meant for me and my baby, and he set up a plan for us going forward. It was such a relief to feel like we had hope and that we were prepared for what we were facing. My husband and mom were both with me at all of my appointments with him, and we could not be happier or more confident in Dr. Singh's abilities to guide us through this process. I would highly recommend Dr. Singh to anyone! Also, the front desk receptionist at the Renfert location was so friendly and upbeat at every visit and definitely made me feel welcome to the office, which was really nice in the midst of an anxious pregnancy. read more

I have seen 2 of the doctors Dr. Horton at the South Austin location and Dr. Singh at the St. David's location. Both doctors are great! They explained everything that is going with my pregnancy. Dr. Horton has always taken the time to be sure I understand everything that is going on and making sure that I am okay and have a support system. She truly cares about her patients and their physical and emotional well being. I recommend anyone with a high risk pregnancy to see Dr. Horton. If you are needing genetic counseling and/or testing Dr. Singh is great! She explained all of the test and what the results will help determine.
