AUSTIN SHOE HOSPITAL LAMAR & 34TH ST. I needed several pairs of shoes altered due to a leg length discrepancy (about ¼ inch). My doctor mentioned there were places in town that could do this type of work, so I chose Austin Shoe Hospital. I brought in 10 pairs and paid approximately $90 per pair for the adjustments. Unfortunately, the experience was very inconsistent. Some pairs were done reasonably well, but several were completed incorrectly and had to be redone. After I raised concerns, I was told that the owner personally handled the corrections, which initially gave me some confidence. After my surgery, I returned to have the added material removed and was quoted $48 per pair just to reverse the work. When I received the shoes, the soles had been shaved down, but nothing had been properly restored. I was then told it would cost an additional $28 per pair to complete the correction. These repeated and unclear charges were frustrating and unexpected. The workmanship itself varies significantly--sometimes acceptable, other times quite poor and not what I would expect for the price. Given that I spent close to $2,000, the overall quality and consistency fell short. To their credit, they are attempting to make the situation right, and I am currently waiting for the shoes to be returned. I will update this review once the final outcome is resolved. Fast forward 7 days later we got the call they were ready. When he pulled them out of the bag my daughter was excited. She could barely wait to get them on. The photos I took do them no justice. When your show or bag needs some help, this is the place to go. I had busted my shoes out dancing a bit too hard and they are vintage platform shoes I think from the 70's. So not something to just toss. So I brought them in to get glued back together. It was a bit steep 39$ for the repair but it was done right. This wasn't fixing the soles or heels, just glueing the ball part of the sole back to reattach it. I also picked up some wood shoe forms. It was a bit different from what I was expecting by comparison. They're about 30$ for the shoe form. They do it all at all the locations in Austin. I got a call in a few days and my shoes were done. I'm happy with the repair but it's pricey. So be prepared for a bit of sticker shock. I've been to a couple other locations in the past and this one was just as good. read more

They needed to be resoled and I got a call about 2 weeks ago saying that they needed to add significant sticking for another $35 on top of the already pricey repair. They do not call back when they promise and claim they are busy as it is "boot season" )huh? Why?) so I don't understand why they've taken so long nor did I I know they take the shoes offsite nor can they tell me where they are. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds; I decided to get a half sole put over the leather sole. I Picked up the shoes. They looked great. I did not wear them immediately but put them in rotation a few months later. Within 2 months, the soles started to bubble and only continued to separate. I stopped wearing them and eventually took them back in. I told the lady at the counter that they had done the work and needed it done again. I also said that this started to happen almost immediately after wearing them; she didn't care. So, I allowed them to do the half-sole again. I got them back, and the same thing happened after two months. I pulled them off; the sole was shaved down, almost not wearable. I would never take your shoes in for any re-soling. read more

I am so glad this type of business still exists! I was very glad to find this place. I bought a pair of expensive dress shoes and, despite trying them on in the store and even though they are the correct size, I soon discovered the right shoe was much narrower the the left, causing my toes to be cramped together painfully. Took my shoes in for cleaning and they said it'll be 7 days, which was a lie. I wanted to get them clean before specific date, if they could not fulfill the request, they shouldn't have taken it and I could easily go somewhere else. They kept saying they would call the warehouse, they would do everything they can but I highly doubt it. The store manager never called once and just kept saying he was busy and forgot. I think I got a text from them maybe 10 or 12 days after they had promised 7 days. I completely disagree with the last review by Dee Dee. Raul Reyes was assigned the task of re-gluing the sole of my sneakers. After about a week, I received my Air Jordan 11 "Space Jams" back that looked absolutely horrendous. There was glue everywhere. I told Raul and he said that is their standard practice but that he would try to re-glue it again. After another week, I came back and it wasn't ANY better. A pair of sneakers that would normally resell on the market around $300-$400 has been sitting on a shelf unable to be sold for even $100. I came back to talk to Raul and he has not offered an apology. He has not offered any compensation. His only resolution was to call corporate, which I did. Took my purse to Austin Shoe Hospital to have the leather strap sewn down. Was told the strap needed to be shortened too to accomplish the fix. This was an additional charge. Ok, I figured they knew their stuff. When I go to pick up the purse, they had done things differently than what we agreed to. Shortened the strap when I didn't actually need it shortened after all. I pointed that out and asked for a reduction in the charges. The clerk said she'd talk to the owner/manager and let me know, but that they probably wouldn't lower the charges because "other people pay lots more than what I'm charging you." (How is that relevant?) She has never been back in touch and I have sent 2 emails that haven't been answered or acknowledged. Stay away from this place. DO NOT GO HERE. The first time I took my favorite pair of boots they initially told me that I should maybe "buy a new pair of boots." The boots only bad a broken zipper and they were telling me this. They then convinced me to do the cheaper route and the zipper immediately broke when I got them back. When a brought them back a second time and told them the situation, they said they could not offer any sort of refund or discount, even though I went with their initial suggestion. When we came back to pick them up a second time, the cost was $160 and they still offered no discount from the first fiasco. They were rude and kept telling us they'd have to "talk to corporate." Very poor customer service and after this I will not be patronizing this business because cobler repaired the chained strap of my MK shoulder bag and connected the chain backwards so now the strap is twisted and the chain is sealed. They were going to charge me $165 to clean the leather surface when after I cleaned it with $9 bottle of saddle soap it looks new. Also I asked the owner for a business card with the store hours and the card he provided said at the top the hours for Saturday was 8:00AM-5:00PM. I also called the number printed on the store business card and it gave the same hours for Saturday. I rushed across town and arrived at 4:30PM and they had a sign at the door saying CLOSED. I saw the work and owner at the front counter and displayed the business card but rather than them accommodating me for their false advertisement they dismissed and ignored my effort to claim my shoes which are scheduled to be picked up. I took a pair of suede Jordan's to get them cleaned a bit. They didn't look too bad from the start but I just wanted to be safe when it came to taking off a stain. After two weeks (they were supposed to be done in one but had to be "sent back") I receive them and I was shocked. They looked worse than when I dropped them off. The suede had a water stain that never existed. I told the manager of the store and all he could do was give me a 25% discount on the cleaning. Are you kidding me? I have to pay for them to ruin my shoes? I then email their website and get a response from the general manager saying that removing the stains was not 100% guaranteed and that they're sorry. I then respond saying that I wasn't complaining about the non-removal of stains but the fact that they caused new stains and issues that never existed. I also pointed out their lack of a disclaimer on their website and in store. After much back in forth, I basically get a huge "oops sorry for doing that. But there's nothing we can do" If you use their cleaning service, buyer be warned. If they ruin your shoes by accident, nothing is going to be done about it. Ok, so long post ahead! I'm not very kind to my shoes, but I subscribe to the old school method of fixing things rather than buying again when possible. I just started a new job and took my favorite work shoes in. They're black suede and the heels were so worn down that the shoes insides (not the technical term, I'm sure) were visible. I brought them into the store, and the manager, Jason, was able to quote me a repair time and price and explained what needed to be done and why. A few days later I picked them up, they looked great and the repair was much more subtle than I was expecting. I thought the whole sole was going to have to be replaced, thus ruining the shoes profile, but he was able to just seamlessly integrate the heel in! I also asked about stretching out some sandals, and he told me that they don't do that, explained why (possible shoe damage) and recommended a product that so far is doing the trick. Well, when I went home and looked closer at the shoes it looked like a piece had been cut off of the suede at the back of the heel! I was upset because I was sure that this wasn't like that before I came in, after all, the other one wasn't like that. So, trying to be calm, I called the store, explained the situation, and was told to come by so Jason could look at them. I was understandably tense coming back, and we both looked at them. I explained I hadn't ever seen them cut, and that it looked like a piece had been removed, maybe in the heel repair process? Together we looked at them and after a bit of explaining and education on Jason's part I came to the realization that there wasn't a way that this could have been done in the store, it was clearly done when the shoe was manufactured (thanks DSW...) I just hadn't noticed it before now. Needless to say I was a bit embarrassed, but he was very professional about the whole thing. UPDATES at the end (bad news)! Poor quality work over multiple attempts, and guarantee limited. I brought a pair of shoes to be reglued where the external sole was separating from the bottom of the shoe. The work was "guaranteed." This botched repair process and customer service interaction has involved both the Burnet and the Ben White location. Semi-destroyed shoes over multiple attempts, refused to refund, mostly fixed eventually. Attempt #1: At the Ben White location, I paid for the shoes, then saw major problems. Glue spread onto the leather, sections not glued down. Staff said I should go home and call a few days later to talk to someone else. After I left, another customer in the parking lot asked me if he had been as rude to me as he had been to her. I declined to answer. When I called back a few days later, they offered to reglue. I returned to pick up the shoes. Attempt #2: They were reglued and the excess glue was cleaned off. K offered to McKay stitch the soles by carving a groove and then stitching them. I didn't have time to leave the shoes for another week, so I declined but they said the offer stood for 30 days. But the shoes unglued again the first time they were worn. Returned, asked for a reglue and accepted the offer of the McKay stitching. Attempt #3: Groove that was cut was very uneven. Shreds of the soles were hanging from the shoes. The stitches were sticking out, and the threads and some of their knots were raised above the surface so that the thread would touch the ground before the sole. Some of the threads were already frayed. The grooves were so uneven and wide that in some places one could see where the holes had been redrilled. The manager tried to tell me that none of these were problems. Eventually he said that he could have them restitch the shoes and put a thin sole over the stitches. He then patronizing said, "But that is the last thing I can do for you for free." I reminded him that he was not doing these services as a favor, but rather that after nearly a month I was still waiting for them to provide the service for which I had paid--soles that were attached to the shoes. He agreed to restitch and to add a thin sole over the stitches. I was a little skeptical, because they had wrecked the soles with the third attempt, but it was accept or throw away the shoes and forfeit the money I'd already paid the Austin Shoe Hospital. Attempt #4: Returned and picked up the shoes. First time they were worn, however, a whole section of one of the shoe's sole separated. Rather than return to this shop, I've used Shoe Goo purchased online to do it myself. Will never return to this store. UPDATE: 10/25. Per the request of the Austin Shoe Hospital's rep who asked me to email, I did. They responded to my email and asked me to come to their main store on Burnet and Steck. I called on a Saturday morning to explain that I'd been asked to go to that location, and I asked if there was a manager available to help that day. I was told yes, and to ask for Joe. I drove the 45 minutes to the Burnet location. I explained the history of the shoes and showed Joe the damage. He pulled the sole off even more to look at the problems. He asked me to leave the shoes with them. However, I explained that we really did not feel comfortable with that and would prefer a refund of the $27.01. Joe said that he as a manager could not approve it. Instead, I was told to leave the shoes with them for the owner to look at on Monday so that the owner, Carroll, could decide. I wasn't entirely comfortable with that, either, so I asked more questions. Joe clarified that the owner would decide whether they would offer me a refund in exchange for them KEEPING the boots that they have ruined. I politely declined and asked for the name and phone number of the owner. Joe gave that to me. I returned to my car and called the company. I left a voicemail on the owner's line. I have had zero response. Radio silence. I took photos of the shoes while sitting in the parking lot. Then, today, my sister tried wearing them once more. This is just the third time she has worn them since Austin Shoe Hospital added the cheap quality sole--and the tread is completely worn and slippery. She slipped in the rain and hurt her ankle. These shoes are ruined. UPDATE: 10/26. Received reply. Owner refuses to refund. Persuaded me let them repair again. UPDATE: 11/27. The Burnet location replaced the soles. Soles are durable. But dangerously slick in rain even after wear and sanding bottom as advised by Joe. Inner lining glued very badly and misaligned, see photos. They did ship the repaired shoes to me to save me the additional trip, which I appreciated. Burnet location is polite. But refusal to refund bad work/damaged shoes, and treating customers as if our request for a refund is an attempt of theft, is a bad policy. So I have waited quite some time to post this review HOPING that I would be contacted for resolution. Hasn't happened. I wish I had the exact dates to corroborate my experience but will have to use general dates based on credit card statements and my memory. Around 05/26/2017 I took my large, camel-colored Coach duffel bag into the store on Ben White (where I had been many times before for shoe shining and stretching). I explained that the handles on the bag at the time were original but a few days prior I had "snapped" the plastic inside the rolled handles (not sure if that is the technical term - see photos). I felt like this would eventually stretch and tear the leather so I wanted to replace them. The guy in the store explained that they use Louis Vuitton handles that are not dyed yet, they dye them to match the color of the bag, then put them on the bag. He mentioned again that they were LV and that I was "only paying $150 for LV genuine LV handles." I really don't care that they were LV but was excited that they would be dyed to match. So I left the bag with him with my name and e-mail address (as I was told I would receive an e-mail when it was completed - same thing I was told about shoes prior - never received an e-mail). I was told it would be a couple of weeks before it would be returned. About a month to a month and half later I phoned stating I hadn't received an e-mail and was wondering about the status. He stated that he had phoned but I didn't answer and that it had been ready for weeks. I was annoyed but didn't even ask the obvious, "Why didn't you leave a voicemail or e-mail me as you stated." So I went to pick up my bag. It looked great. I traveled with it that week and the very first use I noticed areas where the camel color was missing and a dark brownish, deep reddish leather underneath showing. As I inspected closer I noticed it was PEELING! I immediately phoned and stated that the bag was very obviously not dyed and that it was SPRAY PAINTED! He wasn't moved at all by my observation or irritation. He told me to bring it back in and they would send it back off. I did so, left all of the same information. Another 3-4 weeks passed and I had to phone to find out it was ready. I went it, looked great, traveled with it that week, and the exact same thing happened. I phoned, he stated all he could do is escalate to the manager (or owner who handles all of this). Weeks went by, I never received a response. I phoned and he stated, "Oh, you have to go to the website and leave a comment. That is the only way the owner gets these messages to follow-up with customers." Again, super annoyed that I (the customer) have to do all of the work to make sure the products you provide are what you say they will be AND that you didn't tell me this the first time (stating you would send a message), but I go to the website and leave a message. Never receive a response. I have more shoes that need resoling so I take them to the small location on highway 290. I drop them off and ask the gentlemen how I should go about getting this resolved. I explain everything and he was concerned. He said he would write a note and put it with that days information that would be sent up to an office where the manager/owner would get it. I left all of my contact information. Never received a call. BUT after years of going to the Ben White location I finally received an e-mail when my shoes were ready. Same happened in October when I took more shoes to this location. Which leads me to believe the Ben White location operator does whatever he wants with no accountability.) It is just absolutely ridiculous that I am totally being ignored when the products provided were nowhere close to what was described. The second, is just the overall customer service at the Ben White location. I always went there because it was closest but I will make every effort to find another company to handle my shoes because ASH does not need or want my business. read more

I went to the Austin Shoe Hospital at this location because I wanted to see if they could punch two new holes in a belt for me. It is a simple ask, frankly speaking. I was hardly in the door and the grumpy man behind the counter grabbed his leather punch as he went on a diatribe about how I was 'just like the last guy.' He pointed to an individual sitting in a vehicle right outside the front window (who was probably ALSO aghast at how he was treated and was probably also writing a negative Yelp review) and went on to proclaim that 'he was also in here wasting my time, ensuring there was no way I am going to make any money today because everybody is coming in wanting something for free.' So I'm wondering to myself, is this actually the Dick's Last Resort of shoe repair? Truth is, I did not ask for anything for free nor did I expect it - he just assumed and started running his mouth being rude. He asked me why I didn't 'get a nail and punch a hole yourself' and and then he proceeded to tell me that 'people like me that are going to die when the zombie apocalypse happens.' The funny thing is, this is a repeat of the EXACT SAME SCENARIO down to the detail of what happened to me for years ago when I was in this EXACT SAME LOCATION. Had to get the heels on my boots fixed asap, as I am heading out of town in 3 days. The person that helped me explained the cost and what he'd be doing to fix the heel. Additionally, he recommended a conditioning treatment, but that would extend the time needed to keep my boots so we agreed that I'd take them in once I got back from my travels. I received an email 1 day earlier than expected to let me know my boots were ready, I was greeted promptly and if it weren't for our convo on the weather, would have been out in less than 5 min. I went here to see if I could get my shoes polished because I had an interview he next day and someone just suggested I get my shoes in better shape before the interview. Not only did he treat me like an idiot for not taking better care of my shoes, he acted like I was doing something wrong by coming in to see if anything could be done for them (yes it was last minute but I can at least ask, no?), and then acted like I was set to fail in my interview because I'm an idiot and didn't keep my shoes nice and had some magical expectations they could be cleaned up in a day. I mean maybe I was an idiot for not thinking of this until the day before, but you sure as hell don't need to nor should you be treating customers like crap for their lack of forethought. The customer is always wrong. They're great if there are no issues, but if there is an issue their Satisfaction Guarantee doesn't mean anything. The first pair I had repaired were great -- Cole Haan. So I did a second pair, some of my favorites, Clarks. Those required some sort of special treatment, and MyShoeHospital.com (Austin Shoe Hospital) put very hard front soles on them which are very uncomfortable. My favorite comfortable shoes are now some of my least comfortable shoes. They ruined my favorite shoes and only offered me a 25% refund. Then didn't respond when I said that wasn't enough. So I've filed a dispute with my credit card company hoping to get my money back. read more

I recommend going accompanied by a man when you drop the shoes off, and then going alone when you pick the shoes up. Turn back, don't bother go to that store! The man who works there was very RUDE! I brought in Dr. Martin boots, the soles/heels were worn out, was hoping for the replacement. First impression when I entered was unfriendly man and he didn't even bother to make some eyes contact. I am deaf and I wrote down "doable to fix?" He kept his eyes down and gestured slash over neck. I waited for him to look up, he didn't. So I used my voice, "why?" He looked up at me and wrote back, "WHY?" Then he used his pen and poked into heel and said "that's why!" To my disgust by his approach, I could not stay, I took my boots and walked away. I found another store and I knew it, they were able to replace them. They need to remove the miserable man away. read more

Jason does it again! He took my favorite belt with tons of wear, and reinforced the holes (dare I say where I made my own half home) so it's good as new! Also fixed a split zipper on my half chaps (for riding horses). His work is top notch. Quite the craftsman. Thx Jason! read more

Was going to get a quote for re-soling my boots today at Asutin Shoe Hospital when I saw a motorcycle parked in the handicap zone (even though the entire parking lot was empty aside from my recently parked motorcycle) Asked the guy to move to the empty parking space six feet to the left of the handicap zone and he told me to do my business and move on. I guess he thought some patches on a vest were going to convince me to start shaking in my admittedly in-need-of-repair boots. Of course as I step outside to call the cops and take a picture of his license plate then the big bad biker wants to come talk smack to me; I love how he just kept asking me "what do you have against bikers" and "you got some kind of problem with motorcycles" while I'm leaning on my Harley giving the police his information. Sadly, the biggest disappointment is that the proprietor is just standing there watching this, not piping up, even though its his disabled customers that deserve better treatment. The thought process must be that disabled people don't deserve shoe repair. I made sure he knew as I left that I would be going somewhere else with my business. Sorry for the lack of cursing; I don't want them to have any reason to remove this review. Tldr; Love it when (1) a PoS biker refuses to move their bike out of a handicap zone and (2) the proprietor of Austin Shoe Hospital doesn't bother to ask the guy to move to the empty parking spot six feet to the left. Its cool ASH, I'll deal with your trashy customers for you, but I'll definitely not be shopping here in the future. read more

Sadly I did not read Yelp reviews n made the mistake of coming here. AVOID. I brought in combat boots to be stretched at the side to give more width where the little toe meets my foot. The guy working there seemee to not have heard me n said "oh yeah stretch it at the seams, right?". To which I replied "no, really its right here (showed him where on the shoe), where my little toe meets the foot". So I explained TWO TIMES and POINTED to what I needed done. What does he do? He stretched the seam part/toe box like he originally wanted to do and did not LISTEN TO THE PAYING CUSTOMER. So great, now my boot is a size too big (loose in entire toe area) AND the original problem area is Still an issue! I am at a loss what to do now. If I take it back n have him try again, its still too big of a shoe. So???? Pretty sure HE RUINED MY LEATHER BOOTS. it sucks because not only am I out the $27 risk of 'repair' I paid for, but also the price of the boots themselves. THANKS FOR RUINING MY BOOTS. PLEASE TAKE A COURSE IN LISTENING TO INSTRUCTIONS. read more

Took a pair of shoes to replace the heels. They fixed them and the bottom fell off from my left shoe. I mentioned this to the manager, and told him I had to put super glue to get me through the day, when I went to pickup another pair of shoes they were fixing. Manager told me I could take them to get repaired at the Burnet Location (since it was closer to my work), if it happened again. When this happened again, I called the Burnet location, and they refused to fix my shoe because "we want the Ben White location know what they did wrong". I had to run around all day with scotch tape on my shoe to keep the bottom on. RIDICULOUS. They DO NOT CARE about the customer and they are pretty expensive. read more
