First of all, this run is for a GREAT cause... how could you go wrong....
There were options for 5k and 10k trail run, there was even a kids fun run. This race was really fun and beautiful. It is relatively small, but considering its only the second year they've held this race, it was really well organized and supported.
All races are chip timed and the course goes through the beautiful campus of Cal State Channel Islands, There were definitely inclines, but I wouldn't say it was a particularly "hilly" course. There were times when the route narrowed as you were hitting people running in both directions, however this was overshadowed by the amount of fans with funny and inspiring signs and enthusiastic volunteers handing out water.
The kids fun run was led by a masked alligator and kids of all ages and abilities participated. My little one, LOVED it.
SWAG and goodies: We recieved an beautiful puzzle piece medal that connects to the previous years medal as well as a reusable bag and soft cotton tee. Starbucks was there giving free iced and hot coffee. The post races goodies were some of the best I've seen: bagels, oranges, bananas, peanut butter, fruit cups, veggie chips, water, easter bunny sugar cookies, raisins and probably more stuff that I didn't notice.
There games and some inflatables, photo booth and were many booths with info regarding Autism. The CHP was even there doing free kids IDs. Shave it and the In N Out truck were selling food with the profits going to the charity.
Overall this was one of the BEST races I've done and its for a worthy cause, which makes it that much better. I will definitely be running this race again and look forward to improving my time. read more
