If you are considering sending your 3- or 4-year-old to the Yarrow Family YMCA Mini Camp, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. We removed our children almost immediately because we completely lost confidence in the people responsible for their care. The counselors looked like they didn't want to be there. Every single day felt like the children were an inconvenience. Parents were barely acknowledged. The kids were barely acknowledged. Getting a simple update about our children's day was like pulling teeth, and most of the time we received nothing more than a one-word answer. The lead counselor, Ella, should not be working with preschool-aged children. Throughout our time there, I personally observed her rolling her eyes, speaking to children in a harsh tone, acting visibly annoyed, and showing very little warmth or patience. She rarely smiled, rarely greeted anyone, and consistently gave the impression that she did not want to be around young children. The final straw happened during morning drop-off. The children were standing outside on the patio when one little girl repeatedly said, "Miss Ella, I'm cold." Ella's response? "I don't have a jacket to give you." In a rude annoyed tone of voice while rolling her eyes. No compassion. No attempt to solve the problem. No offer to bring the child inside. No effort to call her parent. No attempt to check the lost and found. Nothing. The little girl tucked her arms into her shirt because she was so cold. I watched this happen with my own eyes. As a parent, I was horrified. To that little girl's family, I won't mention her name to protect her privacy, but if your daughter has light skin and curly or wavy hair and you happen to read this, please contact me. I ran to my car hoping I had an extra sweater for her, but unfortunately I didn't. I'm so sorry your daughter was treated that way. She deserved kindness, not dismissal. I immediately called the camp director, Tori, expecting concern over our experience. Instead, she became defensive almost immediately and essentially told us that the camp "wasn't a good fit" and wanted to remove us from the program. There was no sincere concern about the child, no accountability, and no indication that she wanted to investigate what had happened. It felt like getting rid of the complaining parent was easier than addressing the problems. At that point, we started looking for another camp because we knew we could not leave our children there. We contacted three other camps. Two of them independently told us we were the third family who had recently contacted them after leaving this YMCA because of negative experiences. While I cannot speak for those other families, hearing that only confirmed we had made the right decision. The only counselor who actually appeared to care was Cara (or Kara). She smiled. She greeted parents. She interacted with the children. She actually seemed happy to be there. Unfortunately, one caring counselor cannot make up for the overall atmosphere created by the rest of the staff. The safety concerns were equally alarming. Three- and four-year-old children were dropped off on an outdoor patio with a gate leading directly into a large parking lot. Adults who were not part of the preschool program regularly walked through the patio to access the YMCA café, and the gate was often left open. That is not the level of security I expect for preschool-aged children. At pickup, I repeatedly overheard other children saying they were bored. Given how little engagement I observed from most of the counselors, I wasn't surprised. After speaking with Tori, Casey returned our belongings. Her interaction with us was unnecessarily aggressive and rude, even in front of our young children. The only person who treated us with professionalism and genuine concern was Jamie Gonzalez, the YMCA's Chief Operating Officer. Jamie was respectful, listened to our concerns, and handled the situation professionally. Jamie was the one bright spot in an otherwise unacceptable experience. Jamie's call is the only reason we did not bring forth legal action. We immediately removed our children, and I have absolutely no regrets. Preschool-aged children deserve caregivers who are warm, patient, attentive, and genuinely enjoy being around children. That was not what we experienced here. Parents trust camps with their most precious people. Based on what I personally witnessed, I would not trust this program with my children again, and I cannot recommend it to anyone considering enrolling their child.

Before moving forward, we met with 3 different contractors, and Mike was the only one who really understood our vision. We didn't want to tear out our existing concrete or patio cover, which made the project more complicated, but he was able to design around it and still deliver exactly what we were hoping for. That flexibility was a big reason we chose them. We broke ground on 9/15/25 and everything was complete by 11/10/25!!! It was crazy how fast everything went and he definitely did an amazing job coordinating all the teams to finish in a timely manner. We went with a custom setup that included a raised spa, Baja shelf, and two illuminated sheer descents, and everything came together really well. The spa might just be one of the biggest in town! The water features at night give the whole backyard a clean, finished look, with the lights. We also added the iAquaLink system, which has been super convenient for controlling everything from our phones. Like any build, there were a few minor things that came up along the way, but nothing major, and Mike has been responsive when we needed him. What stood out most is that he didn't disappear after the job was done-- Mike continues to be helpful when we've had questions or needed small adjustments. That kind of follow-through matters with a project like this, and it's a big reason we'd recommend CATAK. Looking forward to enjoying the pool for years to come and continuing to work with them if anything comes up down the line. I will add some pictures soon!

The two small mat areas for stretching are crowded and often times unavailable. I often see coaches chit chatting on the mats and taking up space that could be used for workouts. The movable equipment like the boxes often are filled with personal item like phone and headsets so it's not easy to just grab what you need easily. Several times over the past few months the gym has had no hot water and/or no steam. I utilize the gym before work so this is a major issue. In fact as a write this just received a notification of no hot water. ‍ The sign up part was awesome, with Equinox providing guests passes, gift receipts for the store etc....ending the membership, however, has been painful. I started the process a week ago and my email wasn't on file despite providing all of my info thru the signup process. When I attempted to end my membership thru the email provided it had expired only two days later. Calling back, had to provide my email again. Went thru the cancellation process only to encounter an "error" at the end. Attempted several additional times with same result. Called the club and was informed a "report" had to be made and sent to the general manager for approval. What? My husband is now encountering the same shenanigans. No email on file, no address blah blah. The Equinox front desk manager was rude and condescending saying "I'm sorry mame" over and over. Extremely disingenuous attitude and tone as if just to get me off the phone and not genuinely sorry. Overall an awful experience. Beware, this is a hotel California membership.
