I've used Hobson's for years to service my cars but noticed declining service quality and rising…read moreprices since the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite that I decided to take my 2009 Toyota Matrix for an oil change, tire rotation, and AC recharge. I agreed to an AC diagnostic fee of $139.95, with no issues found, and an AC recharge fee of $145.00. Three days later I took the car for a ride to check the AC function. After an hour, the AC started blowing warm air again. On top of that, a hubcap fell off because the person who did the tire rotation did not reinstall them properly. I took the car back to Hobson's to find out what was wrong since he had just diagnosed the Air Conditioner during my first visit. Mr. Hobson said the AC compressor was faulty and needed replacement. I'm not sure why the diagnostics did not find this issue, but I had him replace it. After the compressor was replaced I left the facility only to find the horn was not working so I immediately returned to Hobson's to get that fixed. This raised major concerns about workmanship. Finally, a short week later, the vehicle overheated on a dangerously busy bridge due to a failed compressor pulley and broken fan belt. When this happened, I did not have the car towed back to Hobson's for him to fix it due to a lack of trust and the poor workmanship Mr. Hobson and his staff performed during two prior visits. I decided to take the car to a different mechanic who was highly recommended. This mechanic found the issue with the new compressor was due to two bolts on the compressor head coming loose and wedging into the fan belt pulley causing the pulley to stop turning and belt breakage, which lead to overheating and coil pack damage. This was because Hobson's replaced my compressor with a cheap Chinese part for which he charged $720.00. Similar compressors are available for under $175.00 on Amazon: AC Compressor Fit for Corolla 2009-2010 1.8L L4, Matrix 2009-2010, Matrix 2012-2012, xD 2008-2014, A/C Air Conditioning Compressors with Clutch Replace for 8831002370, 8831002450. A conversation with Mr. Hobson after the incident ended without compromise or a refund offer, as Mr. Hobson insisted that I should have given him a third chance to fix the AC correctly. More importantly, he ignored the poor service I received despite the pledge in his ad to, "only do necessary work, we never overcharge, and we guarantee the job will be done right." I did take the defective part back to Hobson's hoping Mr. Hobson would refund me the money I paid for the part. He did not. What he did was get me a new compressor that is now my responsibility to sell somewhere to try and recoup part of my loss. If it were me, I would have refunded the client the cost of the bad part, in my case, $720.00. You can use Hobson's for your car repairs if you choose. Please understand the service has gone downhill and the prices are going up. In addition, Mr. Hobson does not honor his pledge to guarantee the job will be done right.

I was told that my oil was very dark, and they advised me to get an oil/motor flush if I intended to keep my car for any length of time, and that it had to be done before changing the oil, I told them to take care of it. It cost an additional $135 for this service.... Later that evening, something did not sit well with me this due to the fact that no mechanic had ever suggested this service for any vehicle that I ever previously owned. I checked the Internet and found that every authority on Google, YouTube, and Reddit, advised that this was NOT a necessary service for my vehicle. It also mentioned that on older car (mine is a 2015) that any deposit on seals could be removed with the cleaners used possibly creating leaks... My mistake was that I did not call my mechanic of 35 plus years at home, when they advised me to get the additional work done. When I called him this morning he told me that this was "snake oil", that service centers try to add this on to charge you for an additional service. I went back today and talked to Jacob, at Service masters, and told him that I felt that I was taking advantage of. He said that they feel that it is an added service that benefits your car and that they " stand behind their products and will continue to recommend them"... I learned a available lesson, to check on all add on service work before you have them done at a service center that you've never used before...

Not a Professional Automotive Repair facility at all! My…read morewife, dog and I were in Florida on vacation in October 2025 when my 2007 Dodge Dakota's clutch went out. We found what we believed to be a reputable repair facility that said that they could get me in right away and could do the repair work on my truck, as they were not overloaded. We had my truck & windsurf trailer towed to Affordable in Clearwater at the recommendation from their St. Petersburg Shop. (Maybe they are better & actually Professional.) This is where the nightmare began. Kevin was able to repair some standard & straightforward (remove & replace) items he found that were in need of repair, but then things fell apart when other items needed to be "replaced", even though there were no signs that they were a problem before we broke down. During our wait in his waiting room while he disassembled the Transmission, he kept us informed by telling us about all of the rusted components and issues he was trying to work around, all the while I was trying to understand what he was doing. While we were waiting, we basically saw no one at this Shop, a troubling sign, but we did not have any other options, as we were from Maryland, 950 miles away. (As the pictures on their website shows, he has a collection of motorcycles and old "hot rods" that he works on, but no standard / typical drive-in repairs being done at this shop.) In the end, after hearing multiple times from him yelling "I've been doing this for over 50 years!" when I tried to have a conversation with him to possibly share some of my expertise with him, we had to rent a vehicle to get back home, as the repairs would take several days that would only begin after the weekend. We drove home and I scheduled a flight back down 2 weeks later. When I arrived & started my Truck, a loud exhaust leak was present, and I knew from his attitude and comments, including how he "didn't get grease and dirt onto my floormats and upholstery, it was there when I brought the Truck in!" that I also just mentioned, that arguing about this with him would be useless. I paid him (over $3,600 for the work he did) and drove home, and documented all of the issues once I was back home with pictures & captions, showing / backing up what I wrote and supporting receipts and explanations that I had planned to attach to this Review to prove that I am not fabricating this Review, but Yelp does not allow downloading Documents, so I have included a 32 "Picture Story" of what was found and what I did to repair the damage done by Kevin & his assistant at this Shop. (He destroyed my Exhaust System's Slip-Joint where the front Y-Pipe joined the balance of the Exhaust System while removing it to access the Transmission, and he didn't even try or couldn't finish the repairs needed to the Exhaust System. I documented what I did and that he could have easily done if he was half as good as he (shouted) he was. He wasn't.) FYI, I am a 68-year-old Mechanical Engineer / Weekend Mechanic who also has over 50 years of experience, working on vehicles and solving problems I am unfamiliar with, repairing / addressing them as best as I can as situations present themselves. Last, back home before I started doing the work shown here, I received repair estimates from Meineke & Midas, and they proposed to completely weld the damaged exhaust system for between $200 & $500, which would have resulted in the Truck not being serviceable in the future. I also took pictures of my garage & driveway areas where I live, showing the actual conditions of my home. (My Truck only has 115,000 miles on it.) I wrote an email to Affordable, documenting what happened and sent them what is included what I have shown here, but I never received a reply from them.

Very nice when I called back on Monday, but could not look at it for several days and I would be out of state by then. They said they had marked the invoice and would take care of it when I returned. They did find a leak when we went back in and actually said they were probably in a hurry the first time. Suggested replacing all the lines just to be sure at 3x the cost of the initial $263. No credit for the previous visit where they missed the leak. Obviously they do not stand behind their work. Had it done elsewhere. Line was $35 and Freon was $40. Took less than 30 minutes. Do NOT recommend!
